Chapter 35: Twilight of the Apprentice
As the Phantom flew in hyperspace, Rex and Fordo were talking with Ahsoka, Nadia and Ferus.
"Once we drop out of hyperspace, we'll be going dark."Ahsoka declared.
"Are you three sure about this?"Rex asked.
Nadia nodded. "Strongly."
"Nadia, you, Ferus and Ahsoka don't have to go to Malachor alone."Fordo declared with a small smirk."We could be there in two rotations."
"We're not alone, Fordo."Ferus assured.
"You know, I could have ordered you to take me along."Rex admitted.
Ahsoka smiled at Rex and Fordo.
"You don't exactly outrank me anymore."Ahsoka remarked.
"In my book, experience outranks everything."Rex remarked.
"Hmm, then I definitely outrank you."Ahsoka answered.
"All of you be careful."Fordo instructed.
Ahsoka, Nadia and Ferus nodded at their two friends.
"May the Force be with you."Rex declared.
The holograms of Rex and Fordo then disappeared from sight as Ahsoka, Nadia and Ferus made their way to where Kanan and Ezra were.
"Why are Rex and Fordo so worried?"Ezra questioned."Uh, what does they know that I don't?"
"Malachor has always been off-limits to Jedi."Kanan answered.
"Why?"Ezra asked.
Nadia let out a sigh before she began to give the fifteen year old boy a small fact about Malachor V.
"Thousands of years before the Mandalorian Wars, a Sith Empire built the Trayus Academy on Malachor V and at some point, Dakar Sol led a rebellion against that Empire on the planet we're heading to."Nadia answered slightly."But we learned these things from old legend stories told to us as younglings in the Temple."
Ferus secretly held Nadia's hand to give it a comforting squeeze.
"To be more clearer, Malachor V is a planet that attracts those who are wiling to learn and take the path of the Sith."Ferus admitted.
Ezra frowned. "If Malachor is off limits, why would Master Yoda send us here?"
Neither Ahsoka, Nadia, Ferus or Kanan said anything as the Phantom arrived to their destination.
Malachor V.
Nadia immediately felt the dark side of the Force was very strong in the planet, but kept a blunt yet calm look on her face.
The gravity of the planet was unstable which made it dangerous for starships to stay there for very long.
"I don't know, but I trust Master Yoda."Kanan responded."There's something here for us."
"Yeah, something to help us stop the Inquisitors."Ezra agreed.
"Knowledge."Ahsoka murmured.
Nadia and Ferus shared a small glance with each other.
Once the Phantom arrived on Malachor V's atmosphere, the group stared at the barren harsh landscape of the planet.
The planet was a cracked and twisted wasteland covered with jagged cliffs due to the cataclysm caused by the Mass Shadow Generator.
Chopper let out a beep.
"A ship?"Ezra asked in confusion."What type?"
Chopper let out another beep.
"He can't tell."Ezra answered.
"Track it, let's see who else is interested in this place."Kanan ordered.
A nervous feeling washed over Ferus.
He silently hoped that his former brother-in-law or his master were already in the planet.
But he decided to put his fears away since his wife still needed to confront a link to her ancestry and needed to be strong for her.
After passing through several clouds, Ezra spotted a large group of towering monoliths.
"Whoa, look, up ahead."Ezra said in awe."What is that?"
Nadia glared at the remains of Malachor V.
"What remains on this hellish planet."Nadia retorted.
After the Phantom landed, the group stepped into the ground of Malachor V.
"I don't see any ship."Ezra complemented.
"It's gotta be around here somewhere."Kanan assumed and glanced at Chopper."Chopper, try to get a fix on its location."
Chopper beeped in respond.
Nadia felt a cold shiver go down her spine as she felt the whispers.
Whispers of the voices of those who cried out in terror before having their life force devoured by the wrath of Darth Nihilus.
She felt them giving her a cold embrace like they wanted to strangle her.
It made her feel sick deep inside.
"Dia?"Ferus spoke up.
Nadia snapped out of her thoughts as she felt the warm embrace of Ferus, who held her hand and was trying to comfort her from her ancestor's sins.
"You okay?"Ferus questioned in concern.
"I'm fine, Ferus. Thank you."Nadia answered with a small smile."I just feel it. Revan's Mass Shadow Generator bringing the presence of the wound in the Force."
"Don't worry."Ferus assured, trying to comfort his wife."I feel it too."
The group approached one of the towering monoliths despite the strength of the dark side lurking in the landscape.
"What are these things?"Ezra asked.
Ahsoka, Nadia and Ferus looked at the writing and the trio saw it was written in the language of the Sith.
"This writing."Ahsoka commented."It's in the old tongue. The language of the Sith."
"Can you read it?"Kanan asked.
A frown appeared on Nadia's face.
The raven haired woman was taught a few Sith teachings from her ill treating maternal grandmother and one of them was understanding the Language of the Sith.
"I will."Nadia volunteered.
Nadia went on her knees to read the language of the Sith written in the monolith, making Ferus become concerned.
"Nadia-"Ferus started.
"I was taught these sort of things when I was four."Nadia explained and touched the words in the monolith."It's written in ur-Kittât. The runic language of the Sith. It's better I read it."
Nadia took a deep breath as she began to read in the Old Tongue.
"Jri xaari kash zo mirror iv tave meistras's savas…"Nadia read.
As Nadia read the text in Old Tongue, Ezra reached out his hand to touch the monolith.
"No!"Ahsoka shouted in shock."Ezra, don't!"
Too late.
Ezra touched one of the monoliths; causing the three of them to fall through a cavern.
While Ahsoka, Nadia and Ferus were able to use the Force to land to safety, both Kanan and Ezra were disoriented by the fall.
Nadia gave Ezra an irritated glare which immediately got replaced by a shocked look upon seeing a Sith Temple and sensing the waves of the dark side.
Ezra stood up from where he land as he and his companions stared at the massive structure in front of them.
"What is that?"Ezra questioned.
"A Sith temple."Ahsoka answered grimly.
Ferus silently glanced at his friends.
"Let's get going."Ferus suggested.
The group started walking around the surface that they fallen into while the ceiling of the surface far above them looked like a starry night sky that let pale beams of light flow down.
Chopper beeped in Ezra's comlink.
"Oh, we might fall through the surface?"Ezra remarked sarcastically."Thanks for the warning, Chop."
Kanan spoke to Chopper in his comlink.
"Any fix on that ship yet?"Kanan questioned.
Chopper gave another beep.
"He's picked up the trail."Kanan declared."This way."
Kanan, Ahsoka, Ezra, Nadia and Ferus began making their way to the Sith Temple.
While walking with her companions, Nadia began to hear unsettling whispers in her surroundings.
"He is a wound in The Force."
"More presence than flesh."
"And in his wake, life dies.
"Sacrificing itself to his hunger."
Nadia let out a scoff as she tried to ignore the whispers that were trying to mess with her head.
"I bet whatever we're looking for is inside that Temple."Ezra assumed.
"Looks that way."Ferus agreed."But if there's a ship, we're not alone down here."
Ezra brought his attention on Ahsoka.
"Ahsoka, you said we're here to find knowledge."Ezra complemented."What kind of knowledge?"
"The forbidden kind."Ahsoka admitted."To defeat your enemy, you have to understand them."
Nadia began to lead her companions to their destination as Kanan glanced at Ezra.
Kanan shrugged. "No better place to learn about the Sith, I guess."
Nadia slowly turned her head to look at the surroundings below the Sith Temple.
The ground was grey and covered in dirt, but she knew this ancient area was most likely a graveyard of those who perished during the Mandalorian Wars.
Nadia suddenly paused for a moment upon feeling a presence nearby.
"Honey?"Ferus asked.
Nadia simply shook her head.
"Nothing, Ferus."Nadia responded and kept walking onward."This place is trying to mess with my mind."
Ferus, Ahsoka, Kanan and Ezra shared concerned looks with each other before the four of them continued following after Nadia.
The group soon came across an area filled with sculptures that were actually corpses of the deceased and had many old lightsabers scattered around the floor.
"The ground looks scorched."Ezra murmured and then noticed a lightsaber."Whoa, Kanan. Look, a lightsaber. And another."
Ezra bent down to pick up the old lightsaber, making a pale green blade appear before it deactivated itself.
Kanan glanced at one of the sculptures that were posing.
"This was a battlefield."Kanan assumed grimly.
Ferus noticed one of the deceased's armour had the mark of the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders.
"You've got that right, Caleb."Ferus agreed."Even a massive fleet battle took place in this planet."
"What happened here?"Ezra asked.
"It looks like at one time, thousands of years ago, Jedi Knights attacked the temple."Ahsoka explained.
"And the Jedi won, right?"Ezra suggested.
"From what I can tell, nobody won."Ahsoka declared.
"The Battle of Malachor V also called Ani'la Akaan which means the 'Great Last Battle' in Mando'a, was the final cataclysmic battle of the Mandalorian Wars."Nadia exclaimed with a frown."It transformed the planet Malachor V into a 'graveyard world' after Meetra Surik sacrificed a significant portion of her own forces to obliterate the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders."
A stunned look appeared on Ezra's face.
"The Jedi Exile sacrificed her own comrades?"Ezra said in disbelief.
Nadia gave a simple shrug.
"I don't know the whole story, Ezra."Nadia complemented and rubbed her right arm a bit."But after Revan activated his Mass Shadow Generator, the surface below of Malachor V became a barren graveyard that echoes the deaths of thousands of Jedi, Republic soldiers and Mandalorians which is the exact area we are standing in."
"I hate to break up this history lesson, but we should keep moving."Kanan suggested.
The group continued to make their way to the Sith Temple.
"Well, if you ask me, this whole planet is a riddle."Ezra admitted.
Kanan frowned. "So if it's a riddle, what's the question?"
"Why is Kanan such a-"Ezra started and became alarmed."Get down!"
Ezra shoved Kanan away as the Eighth Brother leaped through the air with a red double bladed lightsaber spinning in his grip and used his blue lightsaber to block his attack.
The Eighth Brother backed away as Ahsoka, Nadia, Ferus and Kanan activated their own lightsabers.
"Five Jedi?"Eighth Brother hissed.
"An Inquisitor!"Ezra shouted.
Ezra, Ahsoka, Nadia, Ferus and Kanan began chasing after the Eighth Brother before he hurls a trio of explosives at them.
"Take cover!"Ahsoka demanded.
Ahsoka and Nadia pushed Kanan and Ferus out of the way of the explosives.
However, the explosives destroyed the ground beneath Ezra causing him to fall through into an underground tunnel, separating him from his companions.
"Kanan!"Ezra yelled out.
"Ezra!"Kanan shouted and looked down to where his son figure fell."Can you hear me?!"
Ezra groaned as he rubbed his head.
"I'm okay!"Ezra assured."Don't worry about me, I'll catch up!"
Kanan then began following after Ahsoka, Nadia and Ferus to chase after the Eighth Brother.
"He's getting away!"Nadia scowled.
"He won't go far!"Ferus retorted.
Kanan looked at Ahsoka.
"I've never had an Inquisitor run from me before."Kanan stated.
"Maybe it's because he's outnumbered."Ahsoka assumed.
"Hopefully, we're not heading into a trap."Nadia informed sternly.
"I hope so too, Dia."Ferus agreed."But I don't think he was looking for us."
Ahsoka frowned. "Then who is he tracking?"
Ahsoka, Nadia, Ferus and Kanan stopped running as they deactivated their lightsabers to look at each other in silence.
The silence ended when Chopper contacted Kanan in his comlink.
"You found the ship?"Kanan translated."Where?"
Chopper beeped in respond.
"No, no. Forget it, no time."Kanan retorted, knowing what the droid had in mind."Get over there and find that ship. Do not let him take off. We'll follow your signal."
As the group continued running after the Eighth Brother and activating their lightsabers again, Nadia smiled smugly as Chopper gave a respond which made Kanan become irritated.
"No, disobeying me is gonna be dangerous!"Kanan scowled."Now get going!"
Kanan placed away his comlink while Ahsoka glanced at Nadia and Ferus.
"And I thought G-G was the most difficult droid."Ahsoka joked.
"Apparently not."Ferus chuckled.
Nadia playfully rolled her eyes at her husband and best friend's declarations.
"At least, my droid has more proper behaviour."Nadia sneered.
Chopper flew into the surface and arrived to the Eighth Brother's TIE fighter, only to encounter the Inquisitor's red blades.
Despite the Inquisitor's opposition, the droid managed to force himself into the cockpit.
"Filthy droid!"Eighth Brother snarled.
Shortly after, Kanan, Ahsoka, Nadia and Ferus caught up with the Eighth Brother.
Chopper then used the TIE Fighter's laser cannons to knock the Inquisitor to the ground.
Kanan smirked at Chopper.
"Chopper, sometimes you do it right."Kanan praised.
Chopper beeped at his companion.
The group then disarmed the Eighth Brother and took him prisoner.
Ferus glared at the Eighth Brother.
"You're not the first Inquisitor we've seen."Ferus scowled."How many of you are there?"
"More than enough for the four of you."Eighth Brother sneered and glanced at Ahsoka and Nadia."Nothing can save the two of you."
Nadia gave the Eighth Brother a firm yet irritated look since she knew who he was referring to.
"Why are you on Malachor?"Nadia questioned.
"Hunting."Eighth Brother answered.
"But you were not expecting us."Ahsoka informed with a frown."Who are you after?"
The Eighth Brother let out an evil chuckle.
"A shadow."Eighth Brother declared.
Kanan, Ahsoka, Nadia and Ferus shared a glance with each other.
The group became alarmed when the ground around them suddenly started rumbling and shaking as the sound of something powering up earned their attention.
Nadia paled at seeing the altar within the Sith temple beginning to rise.
"Oh, my stars."Nadia murmured.
While distracted, the Eighth Brother took the opportunity to use his wrist communicator to contact the other Inquisitors.
"We need to find Ezra."Ahsoka suggested.
"He must be still in the surface part of the area."Ferus assumed.
Kanan glanced at Chopper.
"Get back to the Phantom and get ready to leave."Kanan ordered.
Chopper beeped and went away to prepare the Phantom for departure.
Kanan sighed. "Why do I know Ezra's involved in this somehow?"
Ahsoka grabbed the Eighth Brother before shoving him forwards.
"Come on, let's take a walk."Ahsoka scowled.
The group and their captive began making their way to the Sith Temple as its artefact full of immense power starting coming up.
They eventually arrived to the side of the temple that made them arrive in front of a massive door.
"He's inside, I know it."Kanan complemented.
Nadia narrowed her eyes as she stared at the door in front of them.
"There's no way he lifted that door."Nadia declared sternly."Not without help."
The Eighth Brother let out a sinister chuckle, making Kanan, Ahsoka, Nadia and Ferus glare at him.
"What's so funny?"Ferus questioned.
Chopper let out a beep in Kanan's comlink.
"What is it, Chopper?"Kanan asked.
Chopper beeped again through his friend's comlink.
"What do you mean we've got company?"Kanan demanded.
The Eighth Brother kept chuckling, making Ferus and Nadia to become more irritated.
"Just what the hell are you're laughing at?"Nadia retorted.
Then the Fifth Brother, Sixth Sister and Seventh Sister arrived while spinning their red-bladed lightsabers in the air.
Kanan, Ahsoka, Nadia and Ferus activated their lightsabers to prepare their fight against the three Inquisitors.
The Seventh Sister landed overhead to drop down before the Eighth Brother, easily cutting through his restraints.
The Eighth Brother immediately thrusted an arm out to rip his lightsaber from Kanan's belt and into his hand to activate it.
A sinister creepy escaped from the Sixth Sister's mouth as she stood next to the Fifth Brother.
"An excellent day's hunt."Sixth Sister sneered.
"You wouldn't be laughing more once I tear out your tongue out, Barriss."Nadia threatened.
"Quit calling me by that name, Aomori."Sixth Sister growled.
Shocked looks appeared on Ahsoka and Kanan's faces.
"Wait. Barriss as in Barriss Offee?"Kanan assumed before looking at Ahsoka."The one responsible for bombing the Jedi Temple and framing you for it?"
Ahsoka glared at the Sixth Sister.
"I sense it's you as well."Ahsoka retorted."To think you would join the Inquisitors."
Sixth Sister scoffed. "I'm not here to talk."
"Enough of this pointless chatter."Fifth Brother growled.
"Let's get back to what we came here for."Seventh Sister sneered.
Immediately, the group began to fight against the four Inquisitors.
Ahsoka fought the Seventh Sister, Nadia duelled against the Sixth Sister while Kanan and Ferus battled the Fifth Brother and the Eighth Brother.
However, as it seemed the group were being backed away from their enemies, the sound of the cave entrance raising, earned everyone's attention.
In the cave, they saw Ezra rushing forward with his lightsaber.
"Ezra?"Kanan said in confusion.
"Guys!"Ezra responded before gesturing to the dark figure that stood in the cave entrance."I brought help."
Kanan, Ahsoka, Nadia and Ferus as well as the four Inquisitors turned their gazes to the dark figure, only to become shocked.
The dark figure was well known to be the former apprentice of Darth Sidious during the Invasion of Naboo and fought against the Republic with Clan Saxon during the Siege of Mandalore.
"Maul."Ahsoka murmured.
"The Shadow."Eighth Brother scowled.
"What fun!"Maul sneered gleefully, throwing his head back to laugh."What fun!"
Nadia glared at the red black Zabrak while gripping her lightsabers tightly upon seeing the monster that nearly killed her foster mother.
"Well. This is a new development."Sixth Sister scoffed in a unfazed tone."The rumours are true, Darth Maul lives."
"Formerly Darth."Maul corrected as he walked forward."Now just Maul."
Kanan glared at Ezra.
"Ezra, step away from him!"Kanan demanded.
"Kanan, I swear he's on our side!"Ezra protested.
"Like hell, he is!"Nadia retorted angrily."He is one of Darth Sidious' former apprentices!"
Ferus glanced at Nadia in concern.
"Dia…"Ferus started.
"Lady Aomori has a point there."Maul agreed before separating his cane to reveal a broken Inquisitor's lightsaber hilt."Perhaps my actions will speak louder than words?"
After jumping forwards into the air, Maul landed in front of the Sixth Sister and attempted to slash her by her feet which she dodged and blocked her lightsaber with his.
The Eighth Brother charged forward with his lightsaber and Maul deflected his attack.
Kanan, Ahsoka, Nadia and Ferus stared at the scene in front of them as Ezra glared at them.
"What are we waiting for?"Ezra questioned.
Maul continued battling the four Inquisitors by himself.
The Fifth Brother tried to attack Maul, but the Zabrak blocked his attack before kicking him in the gut and sending him back.
Maul dodged as the Eighth Brother attempted to kick his head and blocked his lightsaber with his.
Then Kanan, Ahsoka, Nadia and Ferus all rushed forward to attack the four Inquisitors.
Nadia blocked her orange lightsaber with the Seventh Sister's blade before kicking her in the legs and then used her gold yellow blade to block her red blood blade.
Ahsoka raised her lightsaber to deflect a twirling strike from the Eighth Brother while Ferus blocked his blue blade with the Sixth Sister's red blade.
Kanan and Ezra duelled against the Fifth Brother.
"The Holocron, do you have it?"Eighth Brother demanded.
"You will find out soon enough."Maul sneered.
The Sixth Sister let out an irritated scowl.
"Fall back!"Sixth Sister ordered.
The four Inquisitors then jumped into the air before activating their lightsaber hilts and flying away from their opponents.
With their enemies gone, Ezra, Kanan, Ahsoka, Nadia and Ferus brought their attention on Maul.
"Maul."Ahsoka spoke up with a frown."What game are you playing?"
"The end game, Lady Tano."Maul replied while taking away his cane piece."The end game."
Nadia noticed Ezra, Kanan, Ahsoka and Ferus all deactivating their lightsabers before she did the same.
"I am the enemy of your enemy now and I have my own reasons for wanting the Empire to fall."Maul declared and let out a sigh."But we have little time. The one they call Vader will be here soon."
This caused shocked looks to grow on Ezra, Kanan, Ahsoka, Nadia and Ferus' faces.
"Anakin is coming here?"Ferus thought with a hint of worry.
"How do you know this?"Kanan questioned.
"His dogs will tell him where we are."Maul admitted and went over to the group."Four Jedi and a part timer."
Ahsoka looked down at Maul's words.
She was told by the Zabrak during the Siege of Mandalore how Darth Sidious' plan on getting rid of the Jedi and making his Empire rise was about to come into full effect with Anakin in the center of it.
But alas, his warning fell on deaf ears.
"Oh, he will come."Maul declared smugly."He will not be able to resist us."
"Okay, hold on, there is no 'us'."Kanan retorted with a frown."Dealing with Inquisitors is one thing, Vader is another. And I'm not convinced we're all on the same side anyway."
"Kanan, we should trust him."Ezra insisted.
Nadia scowled and rolled her eyes.
"You wouldn't know much about him since you're still a rookie."Nadia retorted.
"But look, Nadia!"Ezra insisted and took out the Sith Holocron."He and I took this from the temple together!"
Nadia's eyes widen in surprise at the sight of the Sith Holocron before sharing a concerned glance with Ferus, Ahsoka and Kanan.
"This is why we came here, right? To find out about the Sith. To find a way to beat them."Ezra reminded and glanced at Ahsoka."Ahsoka, you said we came here for knowledge."
"Ezra, there is no way a Jedi can unlock that holocron."Ahsoka declared.
"Maybe not a Jedi."Maul agreed before glancing at Nadia."But perhaps a descendant of a Sith Lord like Aomori could."
Nadia scowled in annoyance while Ferus gave Maul an irritated look and Ahsoka shared a concerned look with Kanan.
"What are you talking about?"Ezra asked in confusion.
Maul looked at Nadia.
"You didn't tell him, Aomori?"Maul said with a fake shocked tone.
A annoyed scowl escaped from Nadia's mouth.
"I'm not overly fond of talking about it."Nadia responded coldly.
"Aomori is the last living descendant of Darth Nihilus."Maul declared, looking at Ezra."A powerful and enigmatic Sith Lord who became a living wound in the Living Force following the destruction of his homeworld of Malachor V at the end of the Mandalorian Wars."
Ezra stared at Nadia with a stunned look.
"Nadia is that true?"Ezra asked.
"I hate to say it, but it's true what Maul just said."Nadia replied, her voice was stern and firm at the same time."My ancestor was an ancient Sith Lord, who had strong mastery of the Dark Side, but had a disturbing hobby of feeding on the Force energy of other beings and planets beside killing Jedi to survive."
"Whoa."Ezra muttered in a disturbed tone.
Ferus glared at Maul.
"It doesn't matter who Nadia is related to, she's not going to open that holocron."Ferus retorted.
"Oh?"Maul said with a unfazed look."And who are you to think what Aomori will or won't do, Jedi?"
Ferus closed his mouth while Nadia gave Maul a hateful expression.
"I am not going to use my knowledge in the arts of the Sith to open that wretched holocron."Nadia stated slightly."You're going to have to do that yourself."
A disappointed frown appeared on Maul.
"Such a pity."Maul responded."But luckily, there is another way to unlock the Temple itself."
This caused Ezra to become more curious.
"How?"Ezra questioned."Tell me how."
Maul pointed to the top of the Sith Temple.
"At the top of the temple is a chamber."Maul informed."Connect the holocron to the obelisk within and you can unlock the ancient knowledge of the Sith."
"Why are you working so hard to keep us here?"Ahsoka questioned.
"I cannot defeat Vader alone."Maul admitted.
Ezra glanced at Kanan, Ahsoka, Nadia and Ferus.
"I say we stay with him."Ezra suggested.
"Yeah?"Kanan snarled."Well, I say we go, so that settles it."
Maul scoffed as he turned around to look at the group.
"Are you such cowards that you would run from this chance to defeat your enemies?"Maul asked."Who slaughter your friends?"
Nadia narrowed her ruby red eyes at Maul, immediately knowing the former apprentice of Darth Sidious was trying to manipulate Ezra more with his words.
The raven haired woman glanced at her husband, realising he sensed the same thing.
Ezra looked back at Kanan.
"Kanan?"Ezra asked.
Kanan sighed and took out his comlink.
"Chopper, we're staying for a while."Kanan informed.
Chopper let out a disapproving beep.
"Yeah, I know it's a bad idea."Kanan retorted."Just scan for incoming ships, and keep the Phantom out of sight."
Chopper gave another beep before Kanan placed away his comlink.
"Oh, how exciting."Maul remarked gleefully."We're all on the same side."
"Just show us how to get to the top."Nadia demanded in a cruel tone.
"This way."Maul instructed.
Maul began walking away to lead the group to the top of the Sith Temple.
Unknown to the six travellers, they are being followed by one of the Seventh Sister's ID9 seeker droids, who relayed their conversation back to the Inquisitors.
In another area around the Sith Temple, the Sixth Sister and her three comrades listened to the conversation that their enemies had.
"He and I took this from the temple."
"And this is why we came here, right?"
"To find out about the Sith!"
"I am not going to use my knowledge in the arts of the Sith to open that wretched holocron."
From behind her mask, the Sixth Sister rolled her eyes at hearing Nadia's declaration.
"Utterly pathetic Aomori is on thinking she wouldn't follow neither side of the Force."Sixth Sister snarled.
"What is more important is that we know that the boy has the holocron, Sixth Sister."Seventh Sister reminded.
"We cannot allow him to use it."Eighth Brother retorted and activated his lightsaber."I will reclaim it."
"I'm more eager to get the heads of the Jedi."Sixth Sister scoffed.
The Eighth Brother then departed on his spinning lightsaber to the Sith Temple, making the Sixth Sister join him.
Fifth Brother attempted to follow his comrades, only for the Seventh Sister to stop him.
"Wait."Seventh Sister instructed smugly."Let them thin them out, then we will retrieve Lord Vader's prize."
Maul brought Ezra, Kanan, Ahsoka, Nadia and Ferus to the bottom part of the Sith Temple.
"Now what?"Kanan demanded.
Maul raised a hand and pressed it against the side of the wall.
Then a section of the wall immediately lowered down into the ground like an elevator of stone.
"Wow!"Ezra gasped in amazement.
Nadia covered her face a bit since she found Ezra's fascination annoying.
The platform lowered down causing Ezra and Maul to immediately step onto it.
Kanan moved to follow before being stopped by Maul.
"Only two."Maul stated smugly."No more, no less."
"Yeah?"Kanan scowled and shoved Maul out of the way to join Ezra."Well, these two come as a set."
Kanan looked at Ahsoka, Nadia and Ferus.
"Either of you okay riding with Grandpa?"Kanan questioned.
"We'll be fine."Ahsoka assured.
Maul then pressed the hidden button on the side of the Sith Temple and allowed it to rise further up the side.
Nadia folded her arms while Ferus stood close next to her as they watched the pillar return to where the two of them and their companions were.
"We'll go next."Ferus volunteered.
"Fine by me."Nadia agreed and glanced at Ahsoka."Be careful, Ahsoka."
Ahsoka nodded. "I will, Nadia."
Maul pressed the hidden button again, making the pillar bring Ferus and Nadia to the first terrace.
As they headed to the top, the couple began to talk to each other.
"His up to something."Nadia retorted with a stern glare.
"I'm well aware of that, hun."Ferus agreed.
"Beside sowing seeds of discord between Ezra and his master, Maul is likely planning to kill us in whatever knowledge is left in this wretched temple."Nadia retorted.
"Do you think he attend to revive the mass shadow generator?"Ferus assumed.
Nadia shook her head.
"I honestly have no idea if that centuries-old device is still functioning after all these years, Ferus."Nadia stated."But we can't forget that it had a gravity anomaly strong enough to destroy a whole planet either."
The couple suddenly heard lightsabers clashing against each other and immediately activated their lightsabers as they headed to the location of the sounds.
There Ferus and Nadia saw Ezra, Kanan, Maul and Ahsoka fighting the Sixth Sister and the Eighth Brother before the two Inquisitors made their escape to join their comrades.
"Looks like they've figured out your plan."Kanan stated.
"Then we shall alter it."Maul suggested."I recommend that we split up and scale the Pyramid from three sides. They will also have to divide their forces."
Kanan's gaze sharpened.
"And let me guess, Ezra goes with you?"Kanan assumed."No, thanks."
"It is the logical choice."Maul commented.
"For you, that is."Nadia muttered.
"I say we split up."Ezra remarked confidently."Trust me."
Kanan let out a sigh, agreeing with his apprentice's decision.
"Excellent, excellent."Maul agreed as he and Ezra went to the stone elevator."You four will find others lifts on the far side, we will meet again on the next terrace."
Maul placed his hand on the wall causing him and Ezra to head to the next terrace of the Sith Temple.
Nadia simply scoffed while Ferus slightly shook his head.
"I have a bad feeling about this."Ferus stated.
"He'll be fine."Ahsoka admitted.
Kanan glanced at Ahsoka.
"Yeah?"Kanan questioned in a disapproving tone."How do you know that?"
Ahsoka gave Kanan a small yet bright smile.
"Because you taught him."Ahsoka reminded.
Kanan and Ahsoka made their way to the other elevator of the terrace as Ferus and Nadia made their way to the other side.
Ferus suddenly felt a wave of anger coming from Nadia, making them stop walking.
"I can sense you're frustrated, Dia."Ferus commented.
Nadia raised an eyebrow.
"What makes you think I am?"Nadia questioned.
"Because we're dealing with an old face from the past."Ferus admitted.
"Whatever is left in this Sith Temple is clearly something more dark and destructive."Nadia complemented."The Jedi Order had been Maul's enemy as well. But Ezra foolishly believes his suddenly a good guy."
Ferus opened his mouth to say something, only for Nadia to activate her gold yellow lightsaber to send the Sixth Sister's lightsaber back from hitting them.
Nadia and Ferus glared at the Sixth Sister as she summoned her red lightsaber back to her.
"You're fools if you plan to activate the Temple."Sixth Sister insulted.
"And you're a bigger fool to think you have purpose because of the Empire, Barriss."Nadia informed.
Nadia activated her orange lightsaber before she used both her blades to fight against the Sixth Sister.
The Sixth Sister viciously swung her red lightsaber at Nadia, who used her two blades to block her attacks.
As he watched his wife fight against a former friend, Ferus activated his blue lightsaber and then heard the sound of lightsabers clashing against each other.
"Ferus! Go!"Nadia demanded as she fought against the Sixth Sister."I'll handle this broken traitor!"
Nadia attempted to give an upward slash to the Sixth Sister, who bats it aside and advances forwards with a few quick attacks, spinning her lightsaber every so often in an attempt to unbalance her.
Ferus attempted to protest, but then accepted his wife's order and went off to check the others.
The Sixth Sister let out an irritated scowl as Nadia blocked out her blood red blade with her two lightsabers.
"Why can't you just die?"Sixth Sister snarled.
"You should remember that I am not someone easy to get rid of."Nadia informed with a smug smirk.
The Sixth Sister attacked Nadia with a series of furious blows, catching the raven haired woman by surprise a bit.
"You always have to go and ruin it, don't you?"Sixth Sister retorted.
Nadia did a cartwheel jump to go a couple of inches away from the Sixth Sister as she glared at her opponent.
"Exactly what do you mean by that, Barriss?"Nadia demanded.
The Sixth Sister let out a cruel chuckle.
"Let's be honest, all of this is your fault!"Sixth Sister growled.
The Sixth Sister ran forward and made her red lightsaber go in its spinning mode as Nadia jumped out of the way from being hit.
"If you hadn't stepped into the Jedi Temple and didn't receive your training as a Jedi, the galaxy wouldn't be under the Empire's rule!"Sixth Sister snapped.
Nadia narrowed her eyes as the Sixth Sister tried to stab her by the hip, but she blocked her attempt with her two blades.
She then scowled as she blocked the red blade of the Sixth Sister, who tempted to also make her fall off the Sith Temple beside cutting her in half.
"You made me into this!"Sixth Sister growled in a hateful tone."You took everything from me! You broke the galaxy and it is all your fault!"
On hearing this, Nadia remained calm despite being furious at what she just heard.
She never asked a terrible fire to kill her family in Corellia.
She never wanted the Jedi Council to treat her unfairly.
And she definitely didn't make the Jedi Order fail.
Every action anyone took good or bad, would always bring consequences.
"No, it's not."Nadia replied.
Nadia got the strength to push the Sixth Sister's red blade back with her two lightsabers.
The raven haired woman placed away her gold yellow lightsaber to make her right hand go free.
"I didn't make you bomb the Jedi Temple and frame Ahsoka for it."Nadia informed.
The Sixth Sister attempted to attack Nadia again, only for her foe to catch her off guard by using the Force with her free hand to levitate her from the ground.
Nadia glared at the Sixth Sister as she lost her grip on her blood red lightsaber.
"I didn't make you do anything."Nadia admitted with a stern tone.
Nadia used the Force to throw the Sixth Sister against the wall a couple of times.
She then released her opponent, making her drop on the floor.
"I didn't break the galaxy, but I am gonna fix it."Nadia vowed strongly.
The mask on the Sixth Sister's face broke and revealed an irritated gaze on Master Unduli's former apprentice's face.
When she looked up, she saw Nadia holding her orange blade and her deactivated double-bladed spinning lightsaber.
However, Nadia gazed down on the Sixth Sister with a firm look that expressed pity and disappointment.
"And you?"Nadia asked coldly."You made your choice."
Nadia then tossed the deactivated double-bladed spinning lightsaber on the ground before going on one knee to destroy it with her orange lightsaber, shocking the Sixth Sister.
The raven haired woman then stood up to crush its red kyber crystal into bits with her right boot.
"Now live with it."Nadia instructed.
Ferus made his way to the next terrace of the Sith Temple, only to become disturbed to see the mutilated lifeless body of the Seventh Sister.
The Jedi Knight shut his eyes to connect with the Force, immediately figuring out that the female Inquisitor died in the hands of Maul.
Not Ezra.
"KANAN!"
Ferus paled at hearing Ahsoka's shout as he activated his lightsaber and went to the other side just in time to see his friend fighting Maul while defending Kanan, who was on his knees while covering his face.
He immediately went to join Ahsoka to fight against Maul.
"My apprentice is activating the temple or more precisely, this battle station which I shall use to exact my revenge on all my enemies!"Maul retorted.
Maul blocked Ferus' blue blade.
"As if we'll let that happen!"Ferus snapped.
Meanwhile, at the top of the temple, Ezra planted the Sith holocron in the obelisk.
"Who comes forth?"A dark female voice questioned.
"Ezra, uh, Ezra Bridger."Ezra answered."I was told this holocron is the key to knowledge."
"Indeed, Ezra Bridger."the dark female voice agreed."And do you know what knowledge is?"
"Tell me!"Ezra insisted.
"Knowledge is power!"the dark female voice admitted.
Then energy began pulsating at the top of the Sith Temple.
After leaving Barriss by herself, Nadia proceeded to make her way to the top of the Sith Temple, only to freeze in her tracts at suddenly feeling a dark yet familiar presence heading to the area.
A deep frown appeared on Nadia's face since she knew who was coming.
"So you're really showing up."Nadia muttered.
Suddenly, the sound of the Sith temple powering up caught the raven haired woman's attention and made a shocked gasp escape from her mouth.
Ezra had activated the Sith Temple.
"What the hell did he just do?!"Nadia retorted with a furious tone.
Ferus groaned as Maul pushed him away and stood up, only to pale at seeing the Sith Temple activate.
"Ferus, go!"Ahsoka demanded."I'll catch up!"
After giving a nod to Ahsoka, Ferus made his way to the top of the Sith Temple while deactivating his blue lightsaber.
A shocked look appeared on his face upon feeling a disturbance in the Force.
Darth Vader was coming.
"Anakin."Ferus muttered.
Ahsoka blocked Maul's attacks with her white lightsabers.
"The power will be mine!"Maul sneered evilly."Ezra will be mine, and there is nothing neither of you can do to stop me!"
Ahsoka then dodged Maul's slash on getting cut in half before jumping back several feet up onto the flight of stairs.
"Running away like your friend did, Lady Tano?"Maul mocked.
A smirk appeared on Ashoka's face.
"If you want to finish our fight, you'll have to deal with him first."Ahsoka insisted.
Maul followed Ahsoka's gaze and saw Kanan had regained his composure.
The blinded Jedi Knight donned a fallen Jedi Temple Guard's helmet and found his lightsaber which he had dropped.
"Go get Ezra!"Kanan ordered.
Ahsoka nodded and went to follow Ferus to find Ezra.
"I will make this quick."Maul retorted.
In respond, Kanan activated his lightsaber.
"You had your chance."Kanan scowled.
Despite being blinded, Kanan used his Force powers and his other senses to fight against Maul and succeeded in pushing him over a cliff into the chasm below.
After driving Maul away, Kanan was contacted by Chopper in his comlink.
"Chopper! Am I glad to hear you!"Kanan remarked."We need a pick up!"
Chopper beeped a respond.
"A TIE Fighter?"Kanan questioned in concern."Are you sure?"
Nadia rushed forward and became disturbed when she saw Kanan wearing a helmet.
"Caleb, what happened?"Nadia demanded in shock."I saw Maul. Did he do this to you?"
"I can't see anymore, Nadia."Kanan declared."But we need to get out of here. We're about to have company."
Nadia frowned in understanding as she began helping Kanan to get to the top of the Sith Temple.
Back at the top of the Sith temple, Ezra became confused at seeing the Sith Temple's energy become more violent.
"I have been waiting."the dark female voice stated.
"What's happening?"Ezra questioned.
"The power to destroy life is at your command."the dark female voice informed.
Ezra became horrified at the Presence's declaration.
"What? No! No, no!"Ezra protested."That's not what I wanted!"
"Then perhaps the 'other' who approaches will claim it instead."the dark female voice suggested.
Ezra suddenly paled upon realising Maul had tricked him.
"Maul."Ezra murmured.
"Kid!"
Ezra turned around and saw Ferus had arrived to the top of the Sith Temple.
"Ferus, Maul tricked us!"Ezra admitted."This temple's a weapon!"
This caused Ferus to scoff in respond.
"Really?"Ferus asked with a glare, disappointed with the teenage boy for being naïve."I haven't realised that."
Suddenly, a bright light flashed onto Ferus and Ezra which blinded their vision a bit.
But when the duo looked up they saw a TIE fighter arriving with Darth Vader riding on top of it with his blood lightsaber out.
Ferus simply glared at his former brother-in-law as he moved his hand to take out his lightsaber.
When Darth Vader jumped off the TIE Fighter, Ferus pushed Ezra away with his free hand as his other hand activated his lightsaber.
Despite knowing Ferus wanted to protect him, Ezra activated his own lightsaber to fight Darth Sidious' apprentice as well.
The Sith Lord landed right in front of the duo before standing up while marching towards them menacingly.
"You have unlocked the secret of the Temple."Darth Vader retorted in a hard time."How did you accomplish this?"
Ferus simply glared at Darth Vader.
"You're smarter than this, Vader!"Ferus snapped."Figure it out yourself!"
Darth Vader and Ferus clashed their lightsabers against each other, making sparks emerge from their clashing blades.
When Ferus got shoved away, Ezra also swung his lightsaber forward at Darth Vader before his attacks easily blocked as well.
"No matter."Darth Vader stated."The power within will soon serve the Emperor."
"I don't fear you!"Ezra snapped.
"Then you will die braver than most."Darth Vader informed grimly.
Ezra attempted to attack, but Darth Vader retaliates with a downwards strike, stumbling him off balance and then slashing upwards.
The fifteen year old boy goes flying backwards with a cry and lands on the ground while his lightsaber clattered to pieces beside him.
Ferus rushed in between Darth Vader and Ezra with his lightsaber, ready to defend the teenage boy despite what he caused.
"Aren't you afraid of death, Ferus?"Darth Vader questioned.
"No."Ferus answered sternly."I am afraid of wondering how long you'll keep lying to yourself on who you are."
"You're a fool to think that."Darth Vader retorted cruelly.
Darth Vader raised his lightsaber while Ferus simply gripped his lightsaber tightly, ready to fight his former brother-in-law.
"No, he's not."
Darth Vader paused his attention on Ferus before slowly turning around to see Ahsoka standing not far from where he was and glaring at him.
"It was foretold that you would be here."Darth Vader stated."Our long-awaited meeting has come at last."
"I'm glad I gave you something to look forward to."Ahsoka admitted.
Darth Vader deactivated his lightsaber without sparring a glance at Ferus, who slowly took a few steps back while defending Ezra.
"We need not be adversaries."Darth Vader declared."The Emperor will show you mercy if you tell me where the remaining Jedi can be found."
"There are no Jedi!"Ahsoka lied in a strong convincing tone."You and your Inquisitors have seen to that."
Darth Vader turned his attention back on Ferus and Ezra.
"Perhaps Olin and this child will confess what you will not."Darth Vader suggested darkly.
Ferus narrowed his eyes while Ezra looked at Darth Vader with a fearful look.
"I was beginning to believe I knew who you were behind that mask, but it's impossible."Ahsoka stated with a frown."My master could never be as vile as you."
On hearing this, Darth Vader scoffed in his mind.
Did his former apprentice/younger sister figure really wasn't convince that it was really him.
Or did both Ferus and Nadia stupidly didn't tell her that he was beyond saving?
"You realise your faith in the Jedi is an illusion. You forgot they were the ones that turned their backs on you when you were arrested in a crime you didn't even commit."Darth Vader reminded, making Ahsoka flinch a bit."The Jedi create monsters in their wake. They force you deny your deepest feelings and instincts. They even deny love."
"I haven't forgotten what the Jedi Council did or their hypocrisy. But I haven't forgotten that some Jedi were my friends that stood by me no matter what."Ahsoka argued firmly."All Ferus, Nadia and Obi-Wan wanted to do was help you. However, you let Palpatine's manipulations twist your mind and make you into his puppet."
"Anakin Skywalker was weak."Darth Vader informed grimly, annoyed at having to mention his former identity beside hearing it."I destroyed him."
Ahsoka closed her eyes in sorrow before looking at Darth Vader with an angry glare.
"Then I will avenge his death!"Ahsoka vowed sternly.
"Revenge is not the Jedi way."Darth Vader reminded.
Ahsoka's glare sharpened even more.
"I am no Jedi."Ahsoka informed in a strict tone.
With that, Ahsoka activated her pure white lightsabers while Darth Vader activated his blood red lightsaber.
Ahsoka began fighting against Darth Vader in a lightsaber duel.
Darth Vader was moved a few inches away from Ahsoka, who used the Force to blow him several feet away.
Ferus watched silently and deactivated his lightsaber as Ahsoka and Darth Vader moved them away from the top of the Sith Temple.
"I need a lot more training."Ezra admitted.
"You have a long way to go."Ferus commented casually before focusing back on the super weapon."The holocron!"
Ferus and Ezra noticed the holocron was sizzling with purple electricity and had strange flowing red energy coming out of it.
"We can't let him get it."Ezra stated.
The Sixth Sister scowled in annoyance as she slowly walked below the ruins around the Sith Temple.
She hid herself when she spotted Maul leaving the area on a TIE Fighter that belonged to one of her deceased comrades.
"I have to get out of here fast."Sixth Sister retorted with a hint of worry."Otherwise, I'll be burned into a crisp."
Nadia couldn't help but sigh in relief when she saw both Ferus and Ezra safe as she led Kanan to the top of the Sith Temple while Chopper strolled next to them.
"It looks you two need help to get that wretched thing out."Nadia sneered.
"We were doing just fine."Ferus assured defensively.
Ezra became confused at seeing Kanan wearing an old Jedi guard helmet.
"Kanan."Ezra spoke up."Wait, what happened, why are you wearing that?"
"I'll explain later."Kanan stated and glanced at Chopper."Chopper, get the Phantom ready."
Chopper beeped in agreement as Nadia noticed Ahsoka wasn't in the area.
"Where's Ahsoka?"Nadia demanded.
A small frown appeared on Freud' face.
"With Vader."Ferus answered.
Meanwhile, on the outer walls of the Sith Temple, Ahsoka and Darth Vader continue their duel.
Despite all the training she received or learned after leaving the Jedi Order, Ahsoka was having difficulty beating the Sith Lord.
Then Darth Vader finally forced Ahsoka over the edge into the chasm below.
The Sith Lord looked at his old apprentice before bringing his attention back on top of the Sith Temple.
Now all was left for him to get rid of his other former friends and their comrades to retrieve the Sith Holocron for the Emperor.
Working together, Ferus, Nadia, Kanan and Ezra managed to remove the Sith Holocron from the obelisk causing the Temple to start to collapse and implode in on itself.
"The temple's starting to collapse!"Ezra gasped.
"Let's hurry!"Ferus insisted.
Despite the strong winds that were emerging around the Sith Temple, Ferus and Nadia successfully arrived to the Phantom while Ezra and Kanan followed them from behind.
Inside the Phantom, Nadia tried to connect with her data pad to pinpoint Ahsoka's location, only to scowl at the device's lack of connection.
"Crud!"Nadia muttered with a frown."It's doesn't work here!"
"Keep trying!"Ferus insisted.
The couple became alarm at hearing Ezra shout and became shocked at seeing Darth Vader not so far pulling the Holocron towards him through the Force.
With Ezra struggling to hold onto the Holocron, Kanan tried to pull his apprentice back.
"Kanan!"Ezra shouted."It's him!"
"I know!"Kanan yelled."I got you!"
Ahsoka suddenly reappeared and started rushing towards Darth Vader with her lightsabers out.
She let out an angry yell as she attacked the Sith Lord, knocking away his lightsaber and damaging his helmet.
Ahsoka then hit the ground while deactivating her lightsabers.
Terrified to see the entrance of the temple beginning to close, Nadia began yelling out Ahsoka to run to the Phantom.
"Ahsoka!"Nadia shouted, calling out her best friend."Come on! Hurry!"
Ahsoka slowly stood up as she picked up her lightsabers.
"Ahsoka!"
Ahsoka's eyes widen upon hearing a sudden yet painful familiar voice.
She then slowly turned her head around to look at Darth Vader, whose voice filter malfunctioned from her attack.
Beneath the charred helmet and scarred face, Ahsoka sees her former master's face.
The only difference was his eye was deadly yellow instead of blue.
"Ahsoka."Anakin/Darth Vader responded.
"Anakin."Ahsoka responded with a terrified look.
Ferus helped Ezra Kanan as Nadia turned her head to look back at the inside of the Sith Temple, only to become shocked at still seeing Ahsoka with Darth Vader.
Anakin/Darth Vader stood up from where he was as he stared at Ahsoka.
Around them, the Sith Temple started to seal.
"I won't leave you!"Ahsoka declared, torn by her feelings for her former master."Not this time!"
Anakin/Darth Vader's eye widen in surprise and appeared to consider this for a moment.
However, his expression changed into a furious glare upon remembering Padmé's lifeless body and their unborn child.
Without his angel, he had nothing and had no need for Ahsoka's pity.
She let him down as Ferus and Nadia did.
"Then you will die!"Anakin/Darth Vader declared grimly.
Darth Vader activated his blood red lightsaber to finish off his former apprentice.
However, Ahsoka stood where she was as Darth Vader began walking forward to kill her.
"SOKA!"Nadia shouted.
Nadia tried to get to Ahsoka, but she Force-pushed her out of the temple and into the Phantom.
As the temple closed in on itself, Ahsoka and Darth Vader continued their fight.
Nadia attempted to rush back into the Sith Temple, only for Ferus to grab and drag her into the Phantom.
"I'm sorry, Dia."Ferus apologised sadly.
"No! Let me go!"Nadia demanded, her voice mixed with anger and sorrow."I can still save her! Please!"
Ferus ignored his wife's pleas as he brought her back into the Phantom.
Nadia, Ferus, Ezra, Kanan, and Chopper manage to escape Malachor V on the Phantom.
Then…
BANG!
The Sith Temple exploded and engulfed the surrounding area in a burst of power, seemingly killing Ahsoka and Darth Vader.
Aboard the Phantom, Ferus comforted a weeping Nadia while Kanan hugged a weeping Ezra as they deal with the apparent loss of their ally and mentor Ahsoka Tano.
"There's nothing we can do now."Kanan informed softly."It's over. It's over."
The Phantom returned to Chopper Base on Atollon while Zachary, Gwendolyn, Hera, Sabine, Zeb, Rex, Fordo, RG-G1 and AP-5 looked on.
Zachary and Gwendolyn rushed over to hug Ferus and Nadia, happy to see their parents alive.
While the others look on in silence, Hera embraced Kanan, who was now wearing a white blindfold around his eyes.
Nadia and Ferus gazed silently their two children with hurtful gazes, making the Olin twins become sad upon realising their Aunt Soka was gone.
Ezra locked his eyes with Rex and Fordo, sharing their sadness for Ahsoka's loss when the clones realised she did not return.
Somewhere in space, Maul escaped Malachor V in a stolen TIE fighter.
On Malachor V's surface, a lone and damaged Darth Vader limped away from the destroyed Sith temple without Ahsoka.
Morai watched Darth Vader in silence before shaking her head at the fallen Jedi Knight before flying over to the temple's ruins.
There, the being known as the Sixth Sister could be seen walking back into the Temple to look for something.
More clearly, she was looking someone that she owes a lot of apologies to.
Back on the Ghost, the Spectres silently deal with Kanan's blindness and the apparent loss of Ahsoka.
