"You will tell me when we have to go back?"

Cora sighed even Rosamund treated her differently now. "Please, not you too. I am perfectly capable of feeling where my boundaries are. Yesterday nobody was concerned about how much I could do."

"I am sorry," Rosamund said. "I know it is weird how we react to news like this. Because I know that I would hate it if people treated me differently."

"I know it is because you care, but I feel fine and just do not want to make this bigger than it really is."

"I am glad that your treatment starts right away. How long do you have these headaches now?"

"To be honest I am not sure. It was somewhere between the honeymoon and moving into the new house, that they started to bother me. But I chalked it up to stress. I was so focused on trying to get pregnant, that I caused the headaches myself. At least that was what I thought."

Peter started crying. "I think we need to head back to the house. Peter will need his feeding soon."

Cora hooked her arm in Rosamund's. "Thank you so much for coming."

"When you called, I knew I had to come. I wanted to see you, but also knew I would be needed to keep Mama off your neck. She will be more worried about the risk of Robert not getting an heir, than that you are sick."

"I also think that Robert needs you. He is scared and I am not sure that I can reassure him that it will all be alright. He thinks that I will not be honest about how I feel."

"I cannot blame him for that." Rosamund said, looking at Cora's reaction.

Cora smiled. "I know what you mean. I have not told Robert about my headaches. He noticed it some days, but still, I did not tell him they happened regularly. But enough about me and my health. How are you and Marmaduke doing? And this little fella?" Cora brushed over Peter's head.

"We are doing well. It was strange to suddenly be parents and adjust to that. But we found our way into it, and I have to admit, that I love being home with him. Although I miss doing my charity work and hope that I can pick it up again soon."

"You never told me what you do exactly."

"We run a shelter for women who experienced domestic violence."

Cora stopped walking. "I must admit, that was not something I was expecting to hear."

"I know. You think, they are rich, how must they know about what these women are dealing with."

This made Cora snort. "You forgot that I also grew up in a very secured environment. There was nothing I did not get what I wanted and needed."

"Stupid of me. Of course. The way Mama talks about you, always lets me forget about your background."

"Papa, do you think I need to go back to London with Cora right now?"

"Why would you want to go back this minute?"

"I know you are still not feeling very well, but I am scared that we will not have the best doctors here in Downton. I was thinking that I could ask John to come here and help you, so Cora and I can go back."

"You convinced Cora to come here because the doctors were as good and now you say they are not?"

"They are good enough to help with infertility, this is a different thing."

"Robert," Patrick said firmly. "You need to calm down. Yes, of course, it is in Cora's brain. But she herself is calm about it and does not seem to want to rush home. Why do you not trust her judgement and stay here."

Robert sighed. His father was right, he was making a fuss. But only because he could not lose his dear Cora. How was he supposed to live without her in his life? "The possibility of losing her makes me so incredibly scared."

"Do not let that fear get the best of you. Cora is here and God willing she will be here for a long time. But even though I do believe you should not rush back to London; I do think it would be a good idea to ask John."

"You do?" Robert looked at his father with surprise.

"I know that I always said that it is important to keep the business in the family, but I also understand that times are changing. John seems a decent fella and you trust him. Now I think dinner will be ready soon."

Cora closed the bathroom door. She was getting used to this house and was starting to feel at home. She stepped towards her dressing table to brush out her hair. From the bed, there were soft snores from Robert. Cora looked over at him, she was relieved that he had fallen asleep. He had kept an eye on her all evening, but after dinner, Rosamund took him aside. She had managed to calm him down apparently. Quickly she put her night cream on her face, hands, and arms. Making sure not to forget her elbows.

She slid under the covers without lifting them too much, she did not want to wake up Robert. He was lying on his back, his favourite position. Cora preferred sleeping on her side, they made a perfect match this way. She could curl up against him and rest her head against his shoulder. That was what she did this evening.

Cora felt his lips on the top of her head, and he murmured something. She rested her hand on his chest and kissed his jaw. "Sleep tight, my darling."

Robert's hand came to a rest on top of her hand and his breathing slowed down, he was asleep again. Cora wished the same thing would happen to her, but she felt a headache coming on and she forgot to take pain medication. She should get up and take something. However, she did not want to wake up Robert. Cora tried to ignore the throbbing instead, she buried her face in the curve of Robert's neck. She took a couple of deep breaths.

Carefully Robert shifted his body and put his hand in Cora's hair, cupping the back of her head "Do you want me to get something for you?"

He startled Cora when he said that. "I am sorry for waking you." She said.

"Do not be daft darling. You did not, I just sensed something was wrong. What do you need?"

Cora felt tears burning, she could not answer.

Robert wrapped both arms around her and pulled her against his chest. "We got a lot of information to process today. Let those tears go, they will not help when you bottle them up."

"You should not be worried about me. Enough is going on with your father and the business. And here I am, being ill, but not really ill."

"I think we need to accept that you are ill. Maybe not in the sense that you will need to be taken care of, but you are ill. And on bad days you should accept that people want to take care of you."

Cora still felt the tears streaming over her cheeks. "I do not want to be a burden."

Robert pressed her even closer against his chest. "You silly duckling. You are never a burden." He kissed her forehead. "Now let me get some of those new painkillers for you." He got up and made sure Cora was wrapped up under the duvet. It took him some time before he found the right package, Cora put them all in the bathroom. He wanted to be certain not to give her the wrong one.

Cora slit down under the covers, pulling them up to her chin. She turned on her side and closed her eyes. Hoping that it would help get the throbbing to stop, but she knew it would not. She had some of these types of headaches before, it took several hours before they calmed down. She opened her eyes when she heard the bathroom door close, Robert came back with two packages in his hands. Cora chuckled. "It is the one with the red line on it." She said.

"Thank you. I was not sure. For what is the other one?"

"I think that is the one with the hormones. But I do not know them all either."

He handed her the package and a glass of water. Robert waited for her to take the pills and took the glass. Crawling back under the covers he shifted his body so Cora could curl up against him. He softly brushed over her hair. "Can you promise me that you wake me up when you cannot sleep?"

"I promise." Cora said, even though she knew she would not wake him. It was useless that he would lay awake with her. His day was filled to the brim she knew. She had a meeting with a local bookstore. Her editor suggested to start her book tour in this area. Cora had to tell her editor that she did not want to change her name for her books. She published the first one under C. Levinson and she would want to keep it that way.

Robert moved in his sleep and let out a deep sigh. Cora pushed her feet in between his legs and tried to follow his example and get some sleep. The painkillers should start working soon.
