Chapter 1: Duo Players

In the bedroom that belonged to Kiryu, he jolted up in awakened by that sudden yet powerful force that he heard but wasn't around him. However, he heard from inside his head, to his surprise. His hazel colored eyes blinked a few times in confusion.

"What the?" Kiryu asked himself, looking at this sudden screen in front of him like one of those RPG games such as Eden Ring, Skyrim, or Dark Souls.

Before the brown-haired teen could do anything, a display on the window with the symbol appeared. He raised an eyebrow and hummed to think this message display or something. After some hesitation, he reached out to touch the symbol and soon revealed the message when it was opened.

Would you like to link up with player two - Issei Hyoudou? Yes or no?

"Oh, so that is the message or notification setting. Link with player two? And with my brother? Did he get this strange system thing? Well, only one way to find out," Kiryu thought before pushing yes on the display screen and soon got a thumbs up in response before waiting.

Kiryu hummed in thought and wondered more about this system thing. Maybe ask someone about this or something because it's very out of this world. Then again, he started to remember that hangout he had with Kala Wayne, and Issei was on a date with Yuuma Amano, but the pair ended up in the same park and then...something happened.

"We die...Yuuma and Kala transformed, I think. Dark wings, almost like crows, and revealing attires along with energy weapons. I took the hit meet for Issei and got impaled by them. Do they regret it? I remember them shouting my name, along with Issei, trying to hold my wound before he got stabbed. Then...everything else was blank." Kiryu hummed in thought before frowning and rubbed his chin in thought, being trapped by what happened and figuring out what to focus on now with a bigger question.

Who brought Issei and himself back to life?

That got Kiryu's thoughts out and saw that noficiation, meaning his brother was awake and Brotherhood Trait huh? Could that be a skill set? It could be. Then at the same time, a knock was heard and a voice spoke out.

"Kiryu, are you awake?" That voice was Issei asked after a short knock.

"Yeah, I am awake. Hold on," Kiryu replied, getting himself out of bed and walking over to his door to allow his younger twin brother, Issei, to come on in.

Kiryu could see his brother having some hesitation to speak about something, and most likely on what happened last night. As it wasn't a dream and felt real too.

"How much do you remember?" Kiryu asked.

"A quite a bit and...it's scary to be honest," Issei replied honestly with a frown and was scared when seeing his brother getting stabbed like that.

Sure, Kiryu and Issei have their issues over the years like any siblings would. Both were opposite, but they cared for and loved each other as any brother would. They have had good and bad times over the years but also find time to talk and hang out with each other. The oldest twin was able to get into Kuoh Academy first when it started to become a co-gender school and then an all-girls school. And put a good word out for his younger brother to come to the same school, something the youngest twin made sure not to throw away.

"I understand, Issei, but we are alive and should focus on that to figure out what happened. Panicking won't help," Kiryu advised, which affected Issei to take that into thought.

"Yeah...you are right," Issei said while rubbing the back of his head and listren to his brother, who's been a strong voice of reason for a great part of his life.

"This system thing...what's that all about?" He asked, changing the topic.

"I wish I know, but it seems like an RPG type. Also, we have daily tasks," Kiryu replied, showing that both indeed had a message that showed their daily task to complet.

"Huh?" Was all Issei could say before the message screen showed what daily task they pair had to complet.

"What? This straight-up video game thing. There's no way I could complete that. I have failed to perform several things from gym class," Issei said with a frown and some panic.

The clock was starting, and they had less than five minutes to begin the daily task.

"Well, it's either we do it or face whatever penalization. Remember how some games have the players go into the penalty box for failing to complete their task?" Kiryu questioned, being logical, and got his brother to think about that.

"Oh...guess we are doing, but you arm? You have been injured from Kendo Club that hasn't fully healed yet," Issei warned in concern, recalling how his brother's right arm had suffered an injury that caused some discomfort when performing workouts.

"Hmm," Kiryu can only hum as he moved his right arm a bit and shoulder around to check for any discomfort, but to his surprise, it felt brand new and no discomfort whatsoever.

"You healed?" Issei asked in surprise.

"So it seems, yes. Well, let's get dressed in our gym clothes and start doing these daily tasks. Though, do what you think can start with first, Issei. I want to test something out," Kiryu replied, as he wanted to see if this link system links up and shares experience points like a typical game does or is different.

"Right." Issei nodded his head, going back to his room to throw up on some gym clothes to get started with this workout.

The pair did their workout that was set up for them in daily tasks, and both started the other differently. Kiryu did some workouts before beginning his run and followed the rest in order, while feeling this strange feeling of strength to his surprise. He was used to this daily workout thanks to the sports he had done and felt more energy than he ever had. Issei did the workout in order and lastly his run, breathing heavily as his felt his muscles burning. He wondered how his brother handled this daily workout and had a feeling it would get a bit easier after a good while.

The brothers also discovered that complet a task gives them rewards from experience, points. and so on. Like most RPG games such as Dark Souls, leveling certain skills can help but also build up and much more when their next task came up on their screen.

"Sacred Gear?" That got the pair to wonder about that and got Kiryu to remember what Yuuma had said to them before everything blanked out.

"If you want to blame anyone, then blame God for giving you and your brother the power of Sacred Gear."

"Talk with our kings and discovered their secret? What does that mean?" Issei asked in a bit of confusion about the new task.

"Well, I guess we will figure it out soon enough, and maybe that would come to us down the line. For now, let's wash up and change before mom freaks out to find us now at home," Kiryu replied, being a good point.

"Yeah, good idea. No need for her to freak out," Issei agreed, knowing how their mother could be at times.

"Indeed, and I have a feeling that whatever our 'kings' are might be coming to get us," Kiryu said, trusting this gut feeling.

"What makes you say that?" Issei asked.

"Because if these kings brought us back to life, then they would most likely come to us and check on our safety after yesterday," Kiryu replied, being a strong and good point.

Issei nodded his head and took that, knowing his brother was a bit smarter between them and always was a good voice of reason to think like that. And it makes sense now that he thinks about it. If these kings brought the pair back to life, some thank you are in order but also answers on how they got brought back to life and what are they now. It's clear not human but something else due to this new sense of energy rushing within them. More questions than answers, but all should be answered in time.

Time Skip

Kuoh Academy

At school, the brothers were at their classes and seemed to be normal, but both were wondering what their kings were from what the task they got. Issei was a bit unsure and didn't like to wait until something happened, but he would wait from Kiryu had told him. Currently, the older brother was refreshing himself on those RPG games and what some quests effect the player if this system was similar too those said games but different in his opinion. He had finished up his studying for the day and saw how his brother was looking around. If anyone saw the two girls from last week but it would be the same result: no one remembers.

"Lucky, I told Issei not to show off his date and just take things slow, which worked out. Though I don't regret saving Kala from those thugs but still...if no one saw them before, that means something is off on that. Hmm, still though, do they regret what happened? I don't know yet. I will have to wait and maybe ask them myself if it comes to it," Kiryu thought, but someone tapped his shoulder and got his attention.

"Excume me, Kiryu?" A female voice, getting the brown-haired teen's attention.

Kiryu looked towards to see a familair, beautiful teen girl with shoulder-length, reddish-brown hair tied into twintails and brown eyes. Her hair features swept bangs and a single strand of hair sticking out from the top. Her attire was a schoolgirl's uniform, and shown to have a good figure.

This was Tomoe Maguri, a member of the Student Council.

"Tomoe," Kiryu greeted, recalling the Student Council members number of times due to his interest on joining the club after things with Kendo Club went on hold.

Now, most clubs don't want Kiryu to join due to how much of a pervert his brother was and how unfair at times. They judged his younger twin brother and did not get a chance to know him personally to know he's not a pervert. It can't be helped at times, and that would change one day.

"Would you please come with me? Miss Souna would like to talk with you about something very important," Tomoe said as she gently yet excitedly grabbed Kiryu's hand and admitted that the brown-haired teen was handsome looking.

"Oh, what kind?" Kiryu asked in surprise, knowing he wasn't in trouble.

"Nothing bad. Just concern and perphas join the Student Council. All students need to do an activity of sorts or join a club," Tomoe informed in reply.

It makes sense for Kiryu, but that daily quest and advice from earlier still ring in his mind. He wonders about that more and how it was kind of right that someone would check up on his brother & himself.

"Is this about my brother's behavior last week? I assured you and Miss Shitori that I have talked with Issei about changing it around or risk getting kicked out of the academy," Kiryu informed.

"Oh! It's not that. The president wants to talk with you about something else. Don't worry, you are not in trouble," Tomoe assured.

This caused Kiryu to be a bit nervous about what the student councilor wanted to talk to him about, but he nodded his head and followed Tomoe, who was still holding his hand, to his surprise. The reddish brown-haired teen girl liked the feeling of how soft the brown-haired teen's hand was to hers and did not want him to let go of her.

In another classroom, Issei was looking at the window and was surprised to see someone from the student council taking his brother to the student council room. He was a bit surprised and raised an eyebrow before hearing the number of other girls in this class being jealous on seeing Kiryu being taken away by Tomoe from the Student Council. And of course, the boys of the class were very jealous of the brown-haired teen who managed to score a girl like that, getting some death threats and perverted things.

Issei sighed and knew that would get under Kiryu's skin a bit, seeing his brother send those idiots a death glare that shut them up. He rubbed the back of his head and wondered what the Student Council wanted with Kiryu again. It wasn't the first time he went to the club to either join or talk with the president of the club, Souna Shitori, to give out not-so-harsh punishments. Last week, the younger brother had to wash up some bad artwork on the academy's walls after being caught by his older brother for doing something stupid.

"Pardon me. Are you Issei Hyoudou?" A female voice asked, being a beautiful teen woman with golden blonde hair with some bangs coming down and ocean blue colored eyes. Her current attire was the school girls' uniform with white stockings and black dress shoes.

This was Yumi Kiba, known as the Princess of Kuoh Academy and sometimes known as the Golden Princess for her golden colored hair to princess kind, nature personality.

Issei would normally act like he's perverted self and would have eyed Yumi. Who can blame him as she was beautiful, but he stopped himself and remembered what Kiryu would do if he heard any more trouble. Unless he wanted his brother to pull him by the ear again, and that's a bit painful to remember.

"Umm, yes. Yes I am," Issei said, shaking himself to act well and behave or face his brother's wrath if he caught wind of it.

"My president would like to talk with you about joining the Occult Research Club. It's required almost all students need to do an after school progame," Yumi informed.

"Oh! I guess that makes sense. Very well, lead the way then," Issei said, taking that request and recalling how his brother had told him about that academy rule when he did Kendo Club before he suffered an arm wound.

"Good, please follow me," Yumi said, offering to lead to the old school building, and the brown-haired teen followed behind her.

This caused some uncivil reactions to happen and mix from those that don't want Issei to be anyway near Yumi or wanting to kill Issei for being near the princess. He frowned and sighed, knowing this was going to be a wild one to wonder on how his brother was doing.

"Here we are. Please have a seat and wait. President, along with the vice president, would join with you shortly," Tomoe offered, allowing Kiryu to come into the student council room and take a seat at the front desk before taking her leave to join up with other members to complete their task assigned to them.

Kiryu nodded his head and took a seat, waiting for the president & her vice president to come in for this unexpected meeting it seems. He also started to remember how he knew Souna from his times of talking with her to avoid Issei having harsh punishments. He even used their talks to play some chess games, and both never got a chance to complet their games. So are they freinds? Maybe it was hard to tell, but the brown-haired teen got the feeling the black-haired senior did care about him.

"I do apologize for the late reveal. I was having another meeting with Rias on certain subjects," A certain voice said, getting Kiryu's attention, and soon was surprised to see a light blue magic circle appearing out of nowhere.

Then have Souna Shitori and Tsubaki Shinra appear out from that said circle in the same color energy as the circle.

This sudden appearance surprised Kiryu but he remembered the system screens that appeared this morning and remembered what this quest informed him. The requirement was to find out how Issei and himself were alive to what they are currently from their kings. And the hit was to address what happen yesterday.

"I guess I got to ask anyway," Kiryu thought with a shrug.

"You are not surprised by the fact Tsubaki and I have teleported into the room?" Souna stated as she took her seat at her chair across from Kiryu and Tusbaki stoon by her side.

"Well...give what yesterday of two women having those light weapons and stabbed me to then stabbed my brother. I am starting to beleive that something is off, and I'm not losing my mind due to talking with my brother earlier about what happened. And I know it wasn't a dream...not when feeling that close to...well, death," Kiryu frowned in reply, rubbing the back of his head and comforting himself by taking some deep breaths to not focus on that experience from yesterday.

"Hmm, I see. I would also apologize for that, Kiryu," Souna said, surprising Kiryu on how apologetic she was being and had a frown on her face on what happened the other day.

"What do you mean?" Kiryu asked.

"It's what I have said, Kiryu. I am sorry for what happen and that wasn't something I wish were to happened to you or your brother yesterday. And...I feel bad...that I have taken away a choice that should I have been yours," Souna informed, being sad to have chosen someone she viewed as a friend and wanted to join by his own will than what happen but no regrets of saving Kiryu.

This caused some confusion and concern for Kiryu.

"Can you please explain what's going on?" Kiryu asked.

"Tsubaki, can you please put the barrier up for privacy?" Souna asked.

"Of course, president." Tsubaki nodded her head in reply before bringing her right hand out and casting a silent barrier spell around the whole room to keep things quiet & private within this room.

"Magic..." Kiryu blinked a few times.

"Yes, there's a lot more to that. To begin off, my name is not Souna Shitori but rather Sona Sitri - heiress of the Sitri Clan, and I am a Devil of the Devil Faction within Three Factions," Souna or Sona informed.

"Huh?"

"And we got a lot to talk about, Kiryu. Please bear with me."

Kiryu could only nod and soon listened to what Sona & Tsubaki had to tell him. Something told him it was going to be a long meeting, and luckily, he wasn't missing any classes, but also, his brother had a similar meeting in the ORC. Both would complet their task but also gain something more than that. Knowledge from their kings what they are currently and much more into the Three Faction as their first steps into the supernatural world begins.
