Chapter 05
Heavy footsteps walked through an old abandoned wooden house, the place was dark and damp, the walls were worn with the time that had passed without maintenance, but for this man, it didn't matter, throwing some file folders on the old table, a man sat down and began to handle the copies of the old documents, his breathing was fast as it always was these days.
"Where was the mistake!" He asked anxiously, looking at the dozens of papers he had copied the day he fled so as not to be captured by WILLE, Gendo focused on the papers that contained copies of the Dead Sea manuscripts, every line he had ever read, every little mark he had memorized to make his scenario perfect.
"It was supposed to end with Zeruel's attack!" Gendo repeated as he reread all the documents of the pagan ritual, picked up an old drawing of the angel of power, but his mind struggled to keep focus, soon his attention fell on the voice that flooded his mind and he knew very well that it was the owner.
"You betrayed us when you didn't start the ritual that day, Ikari."
Gendo looked back as he saw the shadow of his wall, Keel's voice flooded the small house where he was hiding, not afraid of the voice, he answered as he began to read the documents again.
Slowly the shadow began to form into a small red sphere, Gendo looked at the small ball in the shadows of his house, having gotten used to it by now.
"I was going to start the ritual, but your pilot had other plans." He replied with venom in his voice, but he himself knew that he had betrayed the group by shutting down the systems that day.
"Nagisa was a disgrace to us, just like your son and you, you assured us that you could control him so that when the time came he could be the perfect catalyst, but you failed."
"Say what you want, right now you're just a shadow in my mind, when I find out what went wrong I'll do the unification scenario." Gendo looked at the leaves, just like every day before, but the results were always the same.
"The ritual went wrong because we underestimated the untranslated manuscripts."
Gendo stopped when he heard this, he had never heard anything like it, he turned and looked at the shadow, he asked with a tense and anxious voice, he wanted to end his suffering at any cost.
"Where are they?"
"Hahaha... Do you think I'm going to give you more secrets so that you end up using them for your own benefit?" Keel's voice said from the corner of the room, amused but completely somber.
He knew that this was no longer a negotiation, why would Keel help him in his cause after everything he had done with the committee and SEELE? He clenched his fists as he felt small in the face of the voice that haunted him.
"We can do that, but it will come at a price, for you and for me."
Gendo looked up when he heard this, he could feel the entity's gaze on him, calmly he sat down again, his mind thinking of how he could change this to his advantage, but nothing came to mind.
"If... if you don't have the translated parts of the scrolls, why did you pursue it fourteen years ago?" Gendo asked calmly, his mind already thinking about how to get this information in the future.
"We didn't take it seriously, we thought the angels were finished." Keel answered sincerely, he himself knew that Gendo was a person who knew well the processes of the instrumentalization of humanity, so he thought of a small thing, but it could work.
Gendo took a deep breath as he thought about the scenario, he didn't want this power to go back to SEELE, how would that leave him with his original plan? What would Yui look like? He felt fear take over his body at this point, Keel seemed to realize this and spoke with an invisible smile.
"Do you think I don't know about your childish plan to get together with your dead wife? You betrayed us for a woman!"
Gendo looked at the shadow angrily, no one was talking about Yui, and with a growl he shouted angrily.
"Don't talk about her!"
Keel didn't seem to mind, his voice sounded serious and spiteful, but he liked the power it had given him, so he spoke his plan, even though he didn't trust Gendo Ikari, his current form wouldn't allow him to do everything alone.
"If you help me, it might still be possible."
Gendo looked at the shadow standing on the bill, he felt a pang of determination take over his body, he had lost all the resources he needed to be able to make his scenario, he had lost many people he needed to be able to follow his plan.
Thinking of the old professor, Gendo knew that only he had the knowledge to achieve this, but where was he now? Keel seemed to realize what was going on in Gendo's mind now.
"The old teacher is no longer needed."
Gendo looked at the corner of the room again, then he remembered Keel's words, he could help him get his meeting with Yui.
"Even if that were possible, how could I get together with Yui?"
"The scenario will benefit everyone, if we unify people's souls you'll be reunited with her as soon as we're done." Keel spoke calmly and with authority.
"What guarantees will I have that you'll keep your end of the bargain?" Gendo spoke as he felt finally defeated, he thought about how he could do this all by himself, but nothing came to mind except having to cooperate with Keel. With a long sigh, he looked at the shadow in the corner of his old house.
"You know that my word is like a law, I never break my promises."
Gendo looked at the ground and spoke calmly, he had to be able to reunite with Yui anyway and cooperating with Keel seemed to be the only way to achieve this, looking seriously at the shadow in the corner of his house, Gendo spoke seriously.
"How can we do that?"
Keel smiled when he heard that, he ordered.
"First we have to recover the old testaments and translate them, you can get the copies from the servers on NERV's hidden network, then we have to take control of unit 01."
"That's impossible, the security inside the building is impenetrable, they've been looking for me for a long time, as soon as I show my face they'll recognize me and everything will be lost." Gendo said, thinking about how to get the files.
"My body may be gone, but my secrets are still with me, Ikari." Keel spoke with conviction as he smiled, his shadow still present in the corner, Gendo nodded at the idea and this seemed to be progress in his current situation, but something didn't seem right.
"But before I give you the access codes, I want proof of your loyalty."
"What do you want?" Gendo said tensely as he looked at the small sphere approaching him.
"Absorb the sphere of life, so I'll be linked to your soul, with your success in making the impact, our souls will be separated again... so I can have your word that you won't break our agreement as you did before." Keel spoke with authority, Gendo sighed as he heard this, he hadn't liked the idea, but he didn't have the options he would have liked to have at this time.
"You want to be a fucking parasite in my body!" Said the man angrily, feeling disgusted by the idea. Keel didn't seem to mind.
"This is the only way I can give you access to the Dead Sea manuscripts, I have to make sure I get my evolution when the time comes."
Gendo shook his head sideways as he thought of anything that could give him the information he wanted, but getting into WILLE was now an impossible mission for him; only with Keel's information could he be reunited with Yui.
"I want to have complete control of my body and mind."
"That won't be a problem, you'll just have some of my memories, enough for the scenario." Keel added as he came closer, Gendo stretched out his hand to take the small red sphere, feeling the adrenaline taking over his body he took it in his mouth, with the sound of breaking glass he consumed it, he felt his body getting strange as the energy was absorbed, he fell to the ground as he felt strong pains running through his body.
"Damn it!" The man groaned as he remained in the fetal position, the pain coursing through every muscle in his body, it was like he was receiving a strong electric shock, every second was a strong agony, just like anything else in his life, this little event began to subside, stopping feeling his body contracting Gendo began to stand up, he looked at his hands as he thought about what had changed in his body.
"Is it over?" He asked as he looked around, searching for the orb in the corners of his shabby house, then a sharp pain shot through his head, he fell back on the floor with his eyes closed, he felt thoughts flooding his mind, just as Keel had said, every code, every strategy they had to follow through with the scenario, but one memory in particular took over his mind.
"Don't even think about betraying me, Ikari, the consequences will be disastrous."
Gendo smiled as he felt the new information taking hold of his body, even though it was only limited information, he now had everything he needed to access Keel's lost files. Calmly, he picked up his old computer, acting as if it were an ordinary thing, his fingers typing commands and lines of code to access old files.
Smiling as he pressed confirm, his eyes were graced with the files that Keel had given him, seeing for the first time the manuscripts of the Dead Sea that had not been translated, calmly he began to look at each page, each little line, but these were only things that he had noticed, stopping as he looked at the parchments on his desk, an idea flashed through his mind, an idea that Keel had and tried.
Picking up the sheets and placing them over the light, he could see new lines that had been erased, not by time, but to be hidden, who did it didn't seem important to Gendo, he calmly looked at the new symbols, he doesn't know how long he stared at the same old sheets of paper, but he wasn't going to stop trying.
After many hours of trial and error, Gendo looked at the documents, seeing a small pattern, I smiled when I saw that everything was making sense, they really had made a mistake in their first attempt to make an impact, they had to have killed all the angels and it seems that they had missed five angels to kill.
"Why didn't they show up?" Gendo asked himself as he began to form the images of the enemies who hadn't attacked NERV, this was something he couldn't understand, why hadn't they appeared? Even Keel didn't seem to understand.
Then he looked at the first parts of the Dead Sea manuscripts, seeing that they had to provoke the angels, but for that to happen the EVAS had to be active, they were the keys to the purification of the world and the elevation of humanity, that was all that would provoke Adam, putting his hand in front of his face, Gendo looked at the television screen showing a random interview in which Ritsuko appeared, he smiled as he heard the woman's strong pride in wanting to surpass Yui, she was going to continue researching the EVA project, it was only a matter of time and he would have to wait when the time came.
(*)
"He's in the Fuziki area?" Misato said skeptically as she received Kaji's latest report, in her hands a photo of a grown man coming out of a store, even though he was wearing sunglasses and a hat, he still had Shinji's features.
"According to our intelligence, yes, a man with his features was seen leaving a local market, it's nothing confirmed or solid, but it's something." Kaji spoke as he smoked his cigarette, his hair tied up in a ponytail, he wouldn't have looked old if it hadn't been for his gray beard.
"Do you want me to go and check?"
"No, before I expose our operation I want a picture of a clean face, I don't want to expose our people to just anyone." Misato said as she looked at the photo calmly and sadly, the man looked a lot like Shinji and that made her heart ache.
Kaji looked at her sadly, he wanted her to be able to forgive herself, but that would only happen with Shinji back and that was precisely why he was looking for the boy.
"Katsuragi, you know you can't keep blaming yourself like this."
Misato looked at the man she had always loved, but now was not the time to think about the past. She slowly lowered the report and thought about it, was this information really solid or would it come to nothing like all the others.
"It's not just because the past, but because I feel we should have him around."
Kaji sat back in his chair, completely unaware that she was his complete superior, no longer the fun-loving old Misato, but a depressed, guilt-ridden woman.
"I know, but think that many people are counting on you, what happened between you and Shinji was very sad for everyone, but think that you still have other people by your side, especially Asuka, Mari and Rei, they need you."
Misato looked at Kaji as she thought about it, he really was right, as he always was, and calmly and sadly she lowered the photo.
"They don't deserve this, I'm sad to have distanced myself from them all."
"It's never too late... everyone has to think that those times are over, the world in a strange way has gone back to the way it was before, so you have to leave the red world behind." Kaji smiled as he stood up, one day he would be able to make her smile like before.
"I hope so." Misato said dejectedly as she thought about it, but those years were difficult, she was on the verge of death for a long time, distancing herself from everyone because of her blind rage in search of the real culprits of the third impact and her blind rage hit an innocent.
Hearing the sound of their door being opened, Misato and Kaji looked up as Ritsuko entered, she noticed the mood in the office and asked.
"Bad time?"
"No, I'm going back to my post." Kaji said as he stubbed out his cigarette and stood up, he kept smiling as he always did, heading for the door the man said still smiling.
"One day we'll go out, just like old times." Smiling, the man left the women alone in the office without even waiting for answers, that was his way, but he wanted to be able to confirm that it really was Shinji in that photo, he wanted the world to leave that hell behind, both for Shinji and for Misato.
Ritsuko entered the room with a small smile, in her hands she had some documents that she was going to propose for Misato to authorize.
"He'll never change."
"If one end of the world couldn't do it, I bet nothing will." Misato spoke with a small drop of humor, she quickly took the documents from Ritsuko and began to read, she felt strange reading those printed words, she could see from Ritsuko's posture that it was serious.
"Why do you want to do tests with the EVAs?" Misato spoke in a tired voice, the same one she had at Wunder.
Ritsuko looked at her calmly, she smoked her cigarette as she looked at Misato, letting out a laugh as she felt it was the ideal moment for the world to move on.
"We can't afford to get rusty, many units produced by Kozo have been captured by other countries, we have to have some guarantee that we're safe, who knows, maybe another madman will show up wanting to play God?
"Our pilots are still doing tests to stay in shape, but the EVAs are still off since Wunder landed, we have to see if everything is okay and another thing, Asuka and Mari are already used to piloting... damn it even Rei can try to synchronize with unit 01." Ritsuko spoke anxiously, she really wanted to be able to work with the EVAs again, her new projects ready to be tested.
"It's been seven years since people came back, our intelligence has nothing saying that countries are building their own EVAs." Misato said as she sat down at her desk, her eyes downcast, she didn't want Mari or Asuka to fly again, not even Rei.
"They've been through a lot, I bet Asuka won't let someone else pilot her EVA."
"The EVA is not the private property of the pilots, we can find other people for that." Ritsuko spoke calmly and dismissively.
"She'll never let me, and I don't want to ruin anyone's life with the EVA world." Misato spoke as she thought of Shinji, she thought of everyone who had been under her orders, and the consequences of that, standing in front of the window that overlooked the geofront, it was like being in paradise, it didn't even seem like the world had gone through chaos.
"Let's talk to them, I bet the girls will be up for piloting again." Said the doctor as she took a long drag from her cigarette, then looked at the back of her longest friend.
"We can't stand still forever, we have to at least be prepared, Gendo was never found together with the SEELE members, they could try again and we have to be prepared, what would we do if they attacked us with the EVAS produced by Fuyutsuki, we have to be prepared." The doctor spoke more calmly, deep down she understood Misato's fear, she knew how much all the pilots meant to her.
"When was the last time you went home?"
Misato turned around, able to show all her fatigue, tiredness, all her guilt, everyone could see that she hadn't been well for a long time, with a long sigh she spoke, her voice depressed and tired.
"I've got a lot of work to do."
"Work? Misato, you have to go home, you have to rest." The doctor said as she sat down in Misato's office chair, but deep down she knew why Misato didn't want to go home.
"Torturing yourself like this isn't going to change things, because you can't change your address, you can get a better place."
Misato thought about it, but it didn't seem right to leave her apartment, it was sad but it was where the best memories were, she didn't want to let that go.
"No, that's where I've lived all my life and it's a good way to remind me not to make that mistake again."
"You know it wasn't your fault, you just acted like anyone else, and it's not your fault that Shinji decided to disappear." Ritsuko said sadly when she heard about her friend's problems.
"I should have done more, this isn't how things were supposed to end." Misato said sadly as she got up, she thought about going home, staying with Asuka and Mari, but the memories of Shinji tortured her.
"One day we'll find him, you can't run away from WILLE's intelligence forever." Said the doctor as she thought of anything that could help Misato, but even for her that seemed like a bad answer.
"I don't know where he could be, I'm losing hope, but Mari won't let me give up." Misato spoke dejectedly, then looked at Ritsuko as she wondered if she should be venting to her about this.
"Makinami? Why does she get so obsessed about Shinji?" The doctor asked as she thought about it, but Mari had always been a great mystery.
"I don't know, when I ask her that and Mari just deflects it by saying that it's the right thing to do, that we have to finish this with him." Misato spoke as she became somber at the thought of Mari's secrets, but it wasn't a high priority for her, besides she was raised with Kaji.
"Does Kaji know anything?" Ritsuko asked as she stubbed out her cigarette.
"No, he won't tell me anything about Mari or Shinji, when he has a secret nothing makes him reveal it." Misato said as she looked at her desk, tons of papers lying on it.
"Where is he anyway?" Ritsuko said with a frown.
"Kaji is looking for Shinji, he's heading the investigation alongside Lieutenant Aida." Misato thought as she picked up one of Kaji's reports for her, as usual he had no information to give, or so Misato thought.
"So, are we at least going to activate the EVAs? We have to make sure everything is okay." Ritsuko asked more calmly.
Misato gave her a cold stare, but she thought about it, she couldn't dwell on the past, she had to keep the world safe for everyone, and she had a responsibility not to let the world suffer because of the ambitions of dishonest people.
"Right, but let's keep this a complete secret, I don't want the others to know that we've activated the EVAS again." She looked up to see her friend still waiting so she could talk more, but she couldn't stay depressed forever, so she picked up some sheets of paper and began to read.
"Anything else to report, Doctor Akagi?"
Ritsuko felt that the conversation was over, gathered her things and got up, she wanted Misato to stop blaming herself for everything that had happened to Shinji, and calmly she stopped at the door.
"You know, I don't think Shinji would want to see you like this, even you deserve to be happy, we saved the world after all." The doctor said as she left, Misato looked at the door and spoke angrily.
"We didn't save the world, Shinji did."
(*)
"Reactivating the cores? But why?" Mari asked as she stood in Misato's living room. Asuka stood next to her with an indifferent look on her face, Misato looked at the girls who were about to become active pilots again.
"We have to keep the units running, any scenario is possible now." Misato spoke with strong indifference.
"Okay but... why now?" Mari asked again, her mind screaming that there was something behind all this.
"The EVAs have been deactivated for a long time, we don't know the impact of this on the functionality of the cores, so we have to make every effort to keep them active and functional." Ritsuko argued as she leaned against the wall.
"And what does it matter, four eyes? We've always done synchronization tests anyway." Asuka grumbled as she stood up, she wished she could turn around and go home. Mari glared at her as she thought about how Asuka was taking this so calmly.
"And who's going to test unit 1? As far as I remember it only accepted the idiot."
"Rei will activate it, she always managed to activate the unit, but never managed to pilot it, at least she'll be able to turn it on." Misato said, remembering the old days.
"And any news on where the brat is?" Asuka asked in a low voice, but they all listened.
"Kaji and Aida have an idea, but nothing concrete." Misato spoke calmly, but there was a sadness in her voice, Asuka nodded slowly, but Mari noticed.
"Even if Rei can't fly, we can study unit 01 so that it can accept Ayanami, we don't have the luxury of producing another one just for her." Akagi said as he smoked his cigarette.
Asuka shook her head slightly sideways, she felt that no one had the right to erase Shinji from history like that, this unit was his and his alone, she looked at the doctor angrily, which was noticed by the fake blonde.
"We have to do whatever it takes to keep humanity safe."
"But couldn't activating the EVAs be dangerous?" Mari asked fearfully, deep down she feared that this could bring the angels back, this was one of the theories of her time about the appearance of angels.
"No, we're going to do everything in secret, no nation will know." Misato said, not realizing Mari's real fear, and then she spoke with authority.
"Go to the EVAS cages, if everything goes according to plan you'll be dismissed when you leave." With that final order spoken, Asuka and Mari waited to see if Misato would say anything unrelated to the EVAs, but nothing came and the two stood up, Mari looking at Misato for a few seconds before leaving.
Outside, Mari spoke seriously as she approached Asuka, she couldn't think of anything but the reactivation of the EVAs? Why not let the Evas gather dust in their cages?
"That's strange, why only now?"
Asuka looked ahead as she headed towards the cages, she thought about it, but she was too annoyed that Rei was testing Shinji's unit, a childish part of her being wanted to be her.
"I don't care, let's do this and go home."
Looking away, Asuka could see that Mari had some things on her mind that she hadn't told her, this was already getting annoying for her, Mari was her best friend in this world, but her secrets were making her scared, she didn't want to have to think that Mari was somehow a traitor.
Mari noticed Asuka looking at her, she knew she had tried to open her box of secrets in her room again, and with a fake smile she tried to tease her.
"What? Jealous that Rei is going to activate unit 01 and not you?"
Asuka shook her head sideways, but Mari had a point, she felt jealous, but then she thought of Shinji and where he should be.
"I just don't think it's right, that unit belongs to Shinji and only he was able to use it, even if Ayanami uses it we can never count on it if we need to." Asuka acted in her professional manner, she wanted Shinji to be by her side again, they both had a lot to sort out.
Mari noticed Asuka's performance, but decided to put it aside, and soon the two women were walking towards the cages in complete silence. Finally arriving at the changing rooms, Asuka looked down at her old plug suit, now refurbished, and closed her eyes as she remembered the moments she had spent with Shinji during the tests.
Soon his eyes fell on Rei, and he felt a rage take over his body as he saw the girl Shinji had talked about so much in the past, why hadn't she disappeared instead of him?
Mari wasted no time in smiling as she removed her clothes, she could see Rei already ready as she pressurized her outfit, already knowing Rei's origin, she was happy to at least see her old friend again after so long.
"Hi Blue, I haven't seen you in a while, what have you been up to?"
Rei stopped at the door when she saw Mari and Asuka, and she immediately answered her friend.
"I'm fine, my routines here are taking up all my free time, I barely have time to look after Tsubami, even though Mrs. Suzuhara says everything is fine."
Mari picked up her clothes as she spoke, smiling; seeing that baby helped her remember the past.
"You like that baby."
Rei smiled as she remembered the moments she spent with Tsubami, who never bothered to take care of her.
"Yes, Mrs. Suzuhara says I have a natural talent for taking care of children, they're very good with me." Rei says as she remembers her new family, even after the fourth impact she continued to live with the Suzuhara.
With that said, Rei turned and started to leave the locker room, Mari turned and looked at Asuka who had a dark look on her face, she knew why.
"Are you still jealous of Rei? Don't you think that should have been left in the past?"
Asuka looked at Mari when she heard this, she never liked Rei because the girl got all the attention, she had the attention of NERV, Misato... even Shinji, the perfect girl in everyone's eyes.
"The doll? She could disappear and I wouldn't care."
Mari looked at her with amusement, then he began to put on his clothes and talk, still smiling. A thought crossed his mind as he recalled the short conversation he'd had with Misato a few moments ago.
"Do you know that they have a suspicion about where the puppy is?"
Asuka stopped dressing when she heard this, she felt her hand trembling at the thought of this information being true, if it was true, what would she do if she saw him again? What would he say to her? Blinking to return to the real world, she answered.
"Just like all the others, these suspicions never came to anything." Says the redhead as she presses the button on her wrist and activates the pressurization.
"But we have to hope, maybe now we'll find him." Mari said as she did the same, she stopped in front of the mirror as she saw her body perfectly filled with the plug suit, she liked the feeling.
"Hope of what?" Asuka spoke dejectedly as she closed her locker, then began to walk outside with her mind agitated, she knew that Misato would never speak if the information wasn't reliable, she felt an anxiety take over her body, an anxiety she hadn't felt in a long time.
(*)
Kaworu was sitting on the sofa in the house where he lived with Shinji. In his hands he was reading a book. He stopped reading when he felt a strange sensation take over his body, a sensation he hadn't felt for many years.
Feeling a rage take over his body, his angelic part screaming at him to punish the Lilim for having done such a disrespectful thing, still with his eyes closed he clenched his fist in restrained anger.
"Damn!"
Shinji was preparing the food, in his hands he had some ingredients, he stopped and looked at his roommate, he could see Kaworu closing the book and getting a dark look on his face, Shinji found this strange, because this behavior was not common in Kaworu, putting the things on the table he asked in a calm voice.
"What?"
Kaworu looked at Shinji as he thought about whether or not he should say what he was feeling and whether it would hurt Shinji; that was exactly what he wanted to avoid. Shinji could see the mental struggle on Kaworu's face, and he calmly leaned on the table and crossed his arms.
"What's going on, Kaworu?
Taking a deep breath Kaworu looked at Shinji, calmly he stood up and leaned against the wall, putting a fake smile on his face he tried to get out of it.
"It's nothing, Shinji, just a little discomfort."
Shinji snorted when he heard this, he knew that angels didn't have the same problems that humans were subjected to, shaking his head sideways he began to speak in a tired, deep voice.
"I didn't know angels were sick."
Kaworu shook his head sideways as he smiled; he knew he had told Shinji all his secrets.
"It's angel stuff."
Shinji nodded at this, but he himself knew that Kaworu had never given him all the information he needed to know, his current state of mind wasn't bothering him, but Kaworu seemed to be irritated. But why was he talking about the angels now?
"What? Weren't all the angels destroyed?"
Kaworu spoke with a crooked smile on his face, he was still irritated by the offense the Lilin were giving him, he struggled to keep control of his body, he brought his hand to his forehead in a sign of anxiety.
"No, they're not all dead, five of my brothers are still alive."
"My God..."
Kaworu realized this, closed his eyes as he felt guilty for Shinji being like this, but now there was no turning back, he took a deep breath as he thought about the words he was going to give.
"Are they coming back?" Shinji spoke anxiously, Kaworu thought for a few seconds, the angels would come back, they wouldn't let the Lilim provoke them like this, not even their influence seemed to change the feeling he was getting.
"I don't know, maybe so."
Shinji's eyes widened, feeling his body becoming agitated by this new information. He looked down at his hands, trembling at the knowledge that the war against the angels could return at any moment.
"Why now!?"
Kaworu put his hands in his pockets as he thought about how he could tell Shinji, he really wanted to let out his anger at the Lilim, but Shinji didn't deserve it, if he was going to punish humanity, he would have to punish Shinji.
"Do you know why the angels appeared the first time?"
Shinji looked at him with fear and doubt, pulled up a chair and sat down, he desperately wanted something to calm down, but there was nothing around. Kaworu looked at Shinji and began to speak.
"When the Lilin started investigating the EVAs, finding out about Adam's body buried in Antarctica, that aroused the interest of our race, they were looking for Adam all over the universe." Kaworu said as he sat down on the sofa, Shinji looking at him calmly and expectantly.
"Until then I had no problems, but the creation of a nucleus, the center of the angels' lives, awakened something in my race, a common thought among us of being superior, free from the sin of Lilith, and the Lilim thought they were worthy of having such divinity in their hands."
"The cores of the EVAs?" Shinji asked fearfully, then thoughts of his mother crossed his mind, did her research have anything to do with the war?
"Yes, the cores of the EVAs and the angels are basically their hearts, and the Lilim were playing with this divinity and the angels didn't like it." Kaworu spoke angrily as he remembered the sensation of feeling it for the first time, calmly he continued his explanation.
"When the first core was activated, that was the last straw... How could such impure beings think they were worthy of such a blessing?" Kaworu spoke angrily, Shinji looked at him with fear, Kaworu had never shown such anger.
"When we first came, I wanted to show Lilith and her creation that they couldn't try to steal our blessing, the Lilim weren't worthy of such a thing! They deserved to die for it!"
Kaworu took a breath to calm himself down, Shinji wasn't to blame for his angelic side. Calming down, he began to speak as he usually did, his voice calmer as he began again.
"When the third impact happened, for the angels the world had been cleansed of the filth of the Lilin race, so they went back into hibernation, even with our restoration they hadn't noticed... until now."
"What's changed?" Shinji asked fearfully, wondering what humanity had done to deserve the return of the angels.
Kaworu looked at Shinji knowing that he deserved to know, feeling the anger returning to his body knowing that the same people who had hurt Shinji had condemned humanity to its end again.
"WILLE has reactivated the unit centers."
Shinji's eyes widened as he felt the weight of betrayal, how could they have done such a thing after everything he had done? Because they wanted the EVAs back without the threat of the angels? Because they did it to him.
"Why did they do that!?" Shinji spoke with anger and betrayal, fighting the urge to go to them and question them, but his mind was thinking of the possible motives, of everything he had sacrificed and lost so that humanity would have the opportunity to live a normal, long life and the price he had to pay for the world to be happy.
"Why did Misato do this to me?"
Clenching his fists as he punched the wooden table, Shinji got up and headed for his room, slamming the door hard leaving Kaworu in the room with a grim look on his face, but one thing was certain, humanity would have to fight again and even though they were outnumbered, his brothers were now returning to earth.
