Chapter 14
Kensuke was in his bed, a small apartment near WILLE HQ, he was happy with his life after the world was restored by Shinji, too bad his 'friend' had to come back from the dead to ruin a small point of his life, he looked at a small photo on his desk, showing a day in village 03, but his eyes fell on a certain person who was frowning next to him.
Hearing the door opening he could see Asuka entering his house, losing his smile when he saw that she was certainly with Shinji and Mari at the moment, especially Shinji, he hated Misato's plan to control the man who could pilot unit 01.
"You were with him, weren't you?" Kensuke asked saddened to hear that his beloved was being forced to lie with another man, but it was a sacrifice he was willing to pay for humanity, even if it was difficult.
Asuka walked over to the small fridge and grabbed a drink, her face was set in a tired frown, she was annoyed by this whole thing with Shinji when she was finally happy in her life.
"Yes, I'm sorry about that."
Asuka looked at herself in the mirror on the wall, feeling like the worst person in the world as she remembered what she had done a few hours ago.
"I feel disgusting."
Kensuke stood up, even though it hurt to know that she was with another man, he wanted her to be happy, and he calmly took her in his arms in a small hug to comfort her.
"I hate that! I'm not a doll she can use to control the damn brat!" Asuka spoke angrily as she remembered the night she used her body to calm Shinji down, the coward had to ruin the lives of everyone around him.
"Why didn't she send someone else to do this fucking job? Why does it always have to be me who suffers!?" Asuka said angrily as she buried her face in Kensuke's chest, even Mari could do her job, the damned four-eyes was single and a pervert
"I feel so dirty, I feel like a fucking whore." Asuka spoke emotionally as she hugged the man who had given her a life after the third impact, all this anger over a brat who wanted to be a hero, why was she being punished like this?
Kensuke realized this, squeezing the woman even tighter in his arms, feeling a strong anger at Shinji for always making Asuka look like this after going to see him, it was such a bad joke.
"Stop it, I won't lie I hate the idea, but at least I have something he'll never have, you." Kensuke says as he gives the redhead a small kiss on the lips.
"You're not a dirty or vulgar girl, just a soldier doing what's necessary, as soon as this is over, we'll go somewhere of our own." Said the man as he released his lover, he could see that she was still uncomfortable, but he allowed himself to smile.
"I know, but I can see how it hurts you, I hate making you suffer." Asuka says as she watches Kensuke walk away and go back to the sofa.
"It hurts me, but I know you don't want this... Where's Ikari?" Kensuke asked as he sat down on the small sofa in his apartment, he wanted to remove from his mind the image of Shinji hugging his girl, next to him was Asuka smiling as she sipped a drink, her face a happy, calm smile.
"I don't know, probably crying in a corner somewhere, can you believe he's still thinking about that damn angel?" She said angrily as she put down the glass she was calmly drinking from, Kensuke beside her letting out a laugh as he pulled the redhead onto his lap.
"Well, then he can stop thinking about you." Kensuke said as he stroked Asuka's legs, he could see the look in the redhead's eyes, having been through this many years before to know what Asuka's mood was like.
"If he's a fag, why does Misato tell you to stay with him?"
"I don't know, that bitch still thinks things are like they were in the past, she forgot that I grew up and realized how stupid and immature he was." Asuka said as she settled into Kensuke's lap, a satisfied smile on her face as she continued
"That loser is still in love with me, it's getting on my nerves, one day I won't let her use me to keep that brat under control and when that happens we'll go back to the way things were before." Says Asuka as she caresses her lover's face, Kensuke smiles as he looks at Asuka's cleavage.
"At least with him out of the way we won't have to hide, I miss our times in the village when we could be ourselves, now I have to hide how much I love you."
"This will only be for a short while, until we find more pilots so he can go fuck himself somewhere in the world, but enough about him now." Asuka said as she pulled the man's face into a passionate and hungry kiss, slowly the two of them lay down on the sofa to finally have the intimate moment they had been longing for.
Focusing her eyes on the figure standing in front of her, Asuka stopped kissing Kensuke as she threw a sadistic smile at the person watching everything with a shocked look, still feeling immense pleasure as Kensuke kissed her neck as tenderly as a lover would.
Touching the hair of the man she loved, Asuka spoke sadistically as she enjoyed the discomfort of the mysterious figure observing their moment of pleasure, smiling like a demonic figure.
"Do you like what you see? Brat."
Opening his eyes abruptly, Shinji sat up in bed, his breathing quickening as he thought about the dream he'd had. He touched his face as he wiped away the sweat; these nightmares were becoming more frequent as the days went by. Asuka was an adult and free, who did he think he was to dictate who she should date.
Calmly and slowly he got up and headed towards his kitchen, it had been two days since the night he had spent with Asuka, she was doing something at WILLE that he didn't know about, but why did he still have that feeling in his body? That bad taste in his mouth at the thought that she might be with Kensuke now? That he was only using her so that Misato could control him.
"No, she wouldn't do that." He said to himself, but it appeared to be a lie. Angrily, he took a cigarette and let the death stick calm his body, feeling the nicotine take over his body, but the effects were no longer the same.
Sitting up in bed, he continued to smoke his cigarette in an attempt to calm his racing heart, but his mind was still filled with the image of the nightmare he'd had, and still feeling his heart pounding in his chest, he looked at his watch.
Seeing that it was just after seven in the morning, Shinji decided to go to WILLE, at least he could calm his mind on the simulators and maybe talk to Kaworu, see if his friend was all right. He got up, put on his clothes and headed out the door.
Standing next to his neighbors' door, Shinji thought about how his situation with Asuka was going, but sadly he walked past the door, taking the cigarette into his mouth as he continued to smoke, but it didn't calm him down one bit, his mind thinking about the past, especially Asuka's past with Kensuke.
Starting his motorcycle, he wasted no time in heading for WILLE's headquarters, passing the people who were starting their day, all trapped in their own world only to realize that Shinji Ikari was passing them by, the person who turned their world upside down, the person who made their relatives disappear overnight.
CAR HORN
Blinking to return to the real world, Shinji looked at the traffic light now showing green. Calmly, he put the bike in motion again, and could see the people in WILLE uniforms becoming more and more dominant in the vicinity.
Parking and heading for the elevators, Shinji thought about his past, how everything had gone downhill, especially when he was happy in Misato's apartment, again feeling his hand shaking he took another cigarette, completely ignoring the environment that forbade this, his anxiety screaming as he knew he would have to talk to Misato, he had to know if Kaworu was safe.
Finally stopping in front of a long corridor, Shinji could see a woman starting her working day. Calmly, he approached the young secretary and spoke with a fake smile on his face.
"Excuse me miss, is Commander Katsuragi available?" Shinji asked as politely as possible, but his face betrayed him, the young secretary could see Shinji's annoyance, even knowing everything that had happened in the past she felt sorry for him, with sympathy she looked at the WILLE commander's schedule.
"Just a moment."
Shinji nodded as he waited, he could see the young woman leafing through the notebook, with a slight nod she returned.
"She has some appointments, but I think she can see you, I'll call her now and ask if she's allowed in."
"OK, I'll wait." Shinji spoke as he moved away a little, shifting his attention to the paintings on the wall showing some of WILLE's achievements, especially the large shipments of KREDIT in the days of the red earth, Shinji closed his eyes as he thought of how these people had to survive in the times of the eternal nightmare that was third impact.
Soon flashes of the nightmare he'd had flooded his mind, he could still see Kensuke touching and caressing Asuka as he remembered her laughter, how he'd forced her to seek comfort in other people because he'd left her.
"Pilot Ikari?" The young secretary called out again, she could see Shinji standing there with a lost look on his face, then he looked at her again as he gave her his attention.
"The commander will see you in." She said politely as she pointed to the large wooden door. Shinji calmly began to walk, thinking about the challenge he was about to face
"Thank you for your time." He says politely as he passes her, completely ignoring the confused look he received behind her back, but he now didn't know what else to think.
Shinji opened the door and could see Misato sitting at her desk, next to her was a large cup of coffee, he wondered if she had gone home and rested, but that was something that would have to be done another time.
Misato was looking at the reports Ritsuko had made on the angel who was trapped in containment, she felt her blood boiling at the thought of having an enemy so close to her, but she was making a great effort for Shinji, she looked up when she saw the man entering her office, she tried to put a smile on her face, but she remained cold, the same coldness she had when she commanded Wunder.
I could see that she was completely cold as she looked at Shinji entering her office, the same look she had when she was at Wunder, even though she didn't want to give people that impression.
Misato found it strange that Shinji was going to see her so early in the day, but she remained calm, she could feel the heavy atmosphere in the room, she wanted to be able to talk to him, to apologize, but why was that so difficult? Because she was standing there waiting for him to start talking.
"I... can I ask you a favor?" Shinji asked calmly, but his eyes could see a photo of Kaworu in the reports on his former guardian's desk, he felt the atmosphere freeze in the room, Misato looked down as he thought about what he wanted to say, but he had a small intuition.
"What can I do for you?" She asked, trying to stay calm, but her mind still thinking about what Kaworu had done to Shinji in the years they had lived together, had he implanted some idea in his mind? Even though this thought was wrong and completely absurd, she thought of all the possibilities.
"I want permission so I can see Kaworu." Shinji spoke calmly, he could see Misato's gaze wavering as she became slightly upset at the mention of Kaworu, but he had to know if he was all right
"Look Shinji, I don't think this is a good idea, we don't know yet..." Misato started to speak, but Shinji quickly cut her off and spoke more forcefully, but tried to remain calm.
"Misato! Why do you think he would do anything!?"
"Because he's an angel, that's all." Misato spoke with authority, she quickly regretted having said it, and she could see Shinji's eyes changing.
"But it was an angel who saved me, it was he who helped me reverse this! Not you!" Shinji spoke angrily as he felt all the memories returning to his mind, Misato felt her heart breaking with the memories, she wanted to talk to him about the past, putting her hand over her face she sighed tiredly.
"Why do you think that would do any good?"
"Because he's never lied to me, angel or not." Shinji said, still maintaining his aggressive posture.
"He never played games with me, he never hid anything from me, even when the world was lost to me he reached out and helped me." Shinji said as he calmed down a little, he didn't want to fight with Misato anymore, he wanted to be able to put an end to his past, to go back to the way things were with her.
Misato felt her heart ache at this, calmly she looked down as she tried to understand Shinji's motives, but that was easy, Kaworu had given her the support she should have.
"You can visit, but I want you to be supervised." Misato spoke calmly, but showing that she was open to talking about it, Shinji wanted to say more, but he could sense that this was non-negotiable.
"Okay, who do I have to talk to?
"Go to sector 11 and find agent Kaji, he'll take you." Misato spoke calmly, trying to show that she was willing to try to make things better, Shinji sighed at the thought that he wouldn't get anything better than that, calmly he turned to leave, with only a nod.
Misato looked at the closing door to let out a long sigh, holding her face as she thought about her next life, this was getting worse and worse and she didn't have the mind to deal with it anymore.
"Damn."
(*)
Shinji slowly walked to sector 11, where he could see the analysts doing their work, but his eyes were looking for Kaji, but when he didn't find his target he recognized a person, frowning as he knew who it was, even though he never gave them any reason to doubt it.
"Then keep an eye on these people, they've been probing our men." Kensuke spoke to one of his aides, but his eyes soon fell on Shinji standing at the entrance to the sector, he smiled when he saw his friend there, he wished he could go back to the old days when they could walk the streets just for fun.
"Ikari? What are you doing here?" Kensuke asked, confused when he saw Shinji standing there, but there was something strange about his face, as if he had done something wrong.
"What can I do for a friend?"
Shinji wanted to fly into the neck of the friend who had betrayed him, but he still had some control over his body, breathing deeply to calm himself down, shouting to convince his mind that this was just a bad dream.
"I... I want to know where Agent Kaji is? I need to talk to him." Shinji spoke politely, still struggling to keep his mind under control. Kensuke could sense that Shinji was annoyed with him, but wondered if he should ask him there.
"I know where he is, let's go together." Kensuke said still happy to see Shinji, they both walked down the corridors, with only silence walking with them, finally away from the other people Shinji decided to ask.
"Are you my friend Kensuke?"
Blinking as he heard this, Kensuke was confused and looked at Shinji.
"Of course, why do you ask that?"
"You... you were pretty close to Asuka back in the red earth days, weren't you?" Shinji asked without removing his eyes from his face, but he wanted to know what had happened, Kensuke felt his face go white at this question, was Shinji thinking that he and Asuka had had an affair? Why only now?
"Well... I think it was just colleagues, Asuka and Mari stayed at my house back then, I think we all had a good relationship." Kensuke said, remembering the times he'd been through, it was strange to think back to those days, it was like a bad dream.
"Why do you ask?"
Shinji looked away and wondered if it was true, but he felt his mind getting restless at the thought.
"Just wondering, she told me you looked after her back then, I just wanted to know if you had anything." Shinji spoke with restrained anger, but kept everything under control.
"I could even forgive you if something happened between you, she's beautiful, isn't she?"
Kensuke quickly remembered the day he had kissed Asuka, but he knew that it had been wrong, that it had only been a moment of sadness and weakness on Asuka's part regarding the loss of Shinji, but he had to clarify that he had never done anything with Asuka, especially as he knew how much Shinji cared for her and wanted to make sure that Asuka was okay
"What? No! We've never had anything, you're my friend and that's kind of against bromance, you never get your friend's girl hahahah." He tried to make a joke to lighten the mood, but Shinji looked at him with intensity in his eyes, and he quickly regretted it as he became uncomfortable.
"Sorry."
Shinji looked at him angrily, feeling as if it were an affirmation of guilt, he closed his eyes to calm down as much as he could, Shinji knew that this jealousy was a bad thing, Asuka was free to do what she wanted, turning his attention forward, Shinji and Kensuke stopped in front of a door.
"He's in the fields, every morning he waters his watermelons, it's a hooby of his." Kensuke speaks after the silence.
"I know, before the third impact he had a garden like that, so it's not a complete surprise." Shinji speaks as he thinks back to the day Kaji asked him to look after Misato if he disappeared, a promise he was never able to keep, he did the exact opposite.
Kensuke was still agitated by what had happened, but he knew that this was going to be an issue that would cause problems in the future.
"Thanks for bringing me here, I hope I didn't get in your way." Shinji spoke politely and sadly, his mind reeling at the thought of losing Asuka to his friend.
"No problem, I'll be right back." Said the bespectacled man as he began to walk away at a brisk pace, Shinji glanced at his back knowing that he had hidden something, but that would be a conversation for another time.
Seeing that he was alone, Shinji slowly walked back across the green grass of the geofront, having no difficulty in locating Kaji sitting on the ground working in his small watermelon garden, calmly he approached, Kaji looked back when he heard movement, a small tic he still had from his time as a spy, smiling slightly when he saw Shinji approaching.
"Mr. Kaji." Said Shinji as he stopped next to the man who was still sitting on the ground, Kaji heard this and let out a laugh, wiping the sweat from his forehead he spoke as he got up and drank some water.
"Sir is my father, just Kaji is fine." After taking a long sip, he asked, even though he already knew what the subject would be, Misato had already warned him.
"What do I owe the pleasure of your company?"
Shinji took a deep breath as he focused his eyes on the watermelons growing in the ground, his mind remembering his first time getting to know Kaji's hobby, returning to the real world he asked.
"I'm going to visit my friend, Misato sent me to ask you to come with me."
Kaji nodded, he spoke calmly as he drank more water.
"The angel boy? I'm surprised Katsuragi allowed you to do that." Tried the older man humorously, but Shinji only shrugged upon hearing this, smiling as he saw an opportunity to talk to Shinji he asked.
"Okay, no problem... But can I finish this here first? It'll be quick, it's already at the end."
"Okay..." Shinji spoke with slight annoyance, because people didn't do things simply, but he knew that this was Kaji's special moment, so he waited calmly.
Kaji smiled as he sat down again, he could stop his work, but he wanted this time with Shinji, tilling the soil and removing the plants that were stealing the nutrients from his watermelons, he asked.
"So, kid, how are you?"
Shinji turned his attention to Kaji, knowing that the man was trying to get close to him in some way, one more person wanting information from him to pass on to Misato.
"Why do you want to know? Misato doesn't have the guts to ask me to my face?"
Kaji let out a laugh, he had expected this to be a difficult conversation, so he calmly got back to work on the watermelons.
"No, I really want to know how you are. It's not easy having to go back to the world you tried to forget."
"You're right, it's not easy." Shinji says as he feels a little more comfortable with Kaji, the spy had always treated him well in the past world, at least he had good intentions.
"I thought this damn world would leave me alone."
"Is that what Nagisa said? That I could leave the world?" Kaji asked as he moved on to another watermelon.
"And what would be the problem? Why is it so bad to run away from things that cause us pain?" Shinji said slightly annoyed, but managed to keep it under control, this day was being very stressful.
"I don't know, that's not a good strategy, problems don't go away, they always knock on your door at some point... look at me for example." Kaji said as he stopped and remembered his past, especially his time with Misato, he himself thought he would never see her again, and now he was working for her.
"What do you mean?" Shinji asked genuinely curious, he had never thought about Kaji's past before, especially a person who had lived through the second impact and thanks to him, a third impact.
"So, I've lived through a lot, kid, I remember when the second impact happened, when the world went crazy, wars everywhere, I tried to get away from it all, I really did... but I always ended up back in the same environment as before." Kaji rambled on about the past, even though it pained him to say it, he wanted to share his little story, Shinji listened attentively.
"When I thought I'd be free I met Misato and you already know all about her past with the second impact... I thought I was happy with that but then, we broke up... I thought the past was behind me again as I moved on with my life and look now, I work for her." Kaji tried to speak humorously
"Where are you going with this?" Shinji asked genuinely interested.
Wiping his hands as he stood up, Kaji spoke satisfied with his work, his watermelons could grow strong now, looking at Shinji he spoke seriously.
"We always have to face our past, because one day it comes back, we may not like it, but that's life." Kaji said as he turned his attention to the watermelons.
"When I came back here the land wasn't ready to receive the seeds, I had to remove all the parasites so that the land would be ready for this evolution, the same goes for us, if we don't take care of our mind, we'll never be able to move forward into the future."
Shinji closed his eyes, everyone always said that about the past, but why not let him deal with it in his own way? He touched his face as he listened to Kaji and spoke again.
"Shall we?" Said the man as he started walking, smiling when he saw that he had achieved something with the boy who pretended to be a strong person, but deep down he was always going to be a broken boy.
"Of course." Shinji soon followed in her footsteps, his mind reliving every piece of his past, every memory giving him a pang in his mind, every pain he tried to hide, every feeling he tried to hide coming back to him.
Kaji could see that, he asked as he walked slowly.
"Can I ask you something? This angel, Nagisa... Why did you trust him so completely?" Kaji asked calmly when he saw Shinji getting tense and upset, knowing that this question bothered him, with amusement he spoke.
"I don't want to fight, I just want to understand."
Shinji was annoyed to hear this, why couldn't people understand that Kaworu could be a good person? That not all angels could be bad or monsters? Taking a deep breath, he spoke.
"Kaworu was the only one who was honest with me, when I woke up, everyone hated me and did nothing to prove it... I didn't get the answers I wanted, no one wanted to hear that it was just an accident... they just put a bomb around my neck and condemned me... the people I thought I could count on abandoned me." Shinji spoke as he cringed at the memory of that day, Kaji listened intently as he pictured the scene in his mind.
"Kaworu was the only one who spoke to me honestly without attacking me, without saying anything other than what I had asked, he explained to me about the third impact and how we could reverse the whole thing, he won me over there, he had a plan and he needed me, and when we did it, we reversed the third impact, he didn't abandon me, he was a family I could trust."
"But... please don't take this the wrong way, but... didn't you think it might be a trick? That instead of reversing it, you could have finished what you accidentally started?" Kaji asked happily as he took a cigarette, walking slowly to gain as much time as he could spend with Shinji.
Shinji thought about it, he had never thought he would be cheated, but he had thought about it one day in his apartment, but at least Kaworu hadn't shown himself to be unworthy of his trust.
"I'm glad he's not a monster like everyone says he is, he's more human than a lot of people." Shinji said, annoyed by people's lack of trust.
"Shinji, don't expect people to trust an angel." Kaji said as he turned a corner and could see the deadly look Shinji gave him.
"They've been indoctrinated for many years to hate angels, just like Katsuragi so don't be surprised if they don't trust him the way you do, you have to understand that point." Kaji spoke wisely, but Shinji only took a breath.
The rest of the way was silent with Kaji showing his credentials to the guards, Shinji didn't even bother to look at their faces, many of them he could recognize from the corridors of Wunder, especially the guards. Finally entering the highest security sector, Shinji noticed the red lights in Kaworu's cell.
"Here we are." Kaji spoke dejectedly as he looked inside, he could see Kaworu lying on the bed staring at the ceiling as he swung his legs, Shinji moved closer as he thought about how he could help Kaworu, he had thought again about running away with him away from all this, but it wouldn't work.
"Dear Shinji, what are you doing here in this depressing place?" Kaworu said smiling as he stood up and walked towards the glass wall, Shinji focused his eyes on the DSS choker around his neck and became very upset, Kaworu knew what Shinji was thinking.
"You don't have to be like that, she's not a problem for me." Kaworu spoke in the hope of improving the mood of the man on the other side of the glass, Shinji shook his head sideways as he finally spoke.
"That's not right, you're not a monster Kaworu, because they can't understand that!"
"The Lilin are strange creatures, they fear what they can't control, but I feel this won't last long, trust me, I'll soon be out of this cell for good." Kaworu spoke as he thought about the future and the possibilities that would arise.
"I don't think that's a possible future." Shinji spoke pessimistically, but Kaworu spoke with a smile and a calm voice.
"Let's wait, I'm sure they will."
"Are they treating you with dignity?" Shinji asked with genuine concern, Kaworu smiled as he answered.
"Yeah, they do some tests but nothing bad, I even have a bit of privacy when I'm in the bathroom, so it's kind of nice so to speak." Kaworu said, knowing that he wouldn't need much to live, but he knew that Shinji was bothered.
"And you? How are you? Did you get close to her again?"
"Yes, Asuka and I are getting back to talking a bit, but it's still far from what it used to be, Misato still has that look, people still look at me funny." Kaji looked at Shinji when he heard this, he knew what it was like to carry a guilt for many years, but he didn't intervene.
"You know she's hiding things from you, especially her past." Kaworu said as he turned somber, but he soon recovered by speaking cheerfully.
"But that's not important, I really want you to be happy... One day it will all be over."
"But I still don't understand why you had to expose yourself like that, we could have acted differently and you'd be free." Shinji said dejectedly as he remembered the attempt on his life.
"It was the only possible scenario Shinji, those people were going to kill you and everyone in that corridor, I knew what I was doing and I knew the consequences of my act, so please stop thinking about it." Kaworu said as his perfect memory kicked in.
"I know, but Misato or anyone else could have arrived earlier or I could have done something, we could have done something that wasn't exposing you to them." Shinji said as he rambled on.
"But all this is supposition, now you could be dead... or not, but it was just supposition, that's all, we know that one day or another they would find out about me, and it's all right, really." Kaworu said, smiling and calm.
Shinji looked down as he thought of those words, but it still hurt to know what had happened in the past, nodding as he thought of the future, Kaworu slowly spoke as he put his hands in his pockets.
"You know Shinji, I feel that the next angel is approaching, so please, when he arrives be careful out there, I know that these people are by your side, so don't do anything stupid.
"Is the angel near?" Kaji finally entered the conversation, this was an important subject, Kaworu looked at him as he nodded, Shinji was still thinking about fighting without Kaworu by his side, but he knew that Mari and Asuka would be there.
"Do you know when?" Kaji asked as he picked up a small notepad, Kaworu thought about the answer.
"I can't say precisely, but maybe in a week." Answered the man, Kaji noted the information as he asked again.
"Can you tell me what he would be like?"
"No, my brothers only share a single AT field between them, I can't see who it would be but... I can feel it getting closer, I'm sorry I can't be of much help." Kaworu spoke honestly, Kaji smiled when he saw this, and he spoke calmly.
"Don't worry about it kid, at least we can have some time to be on our guard, we won't be taken by surprise like always." Kaji said as he put his notebook away, he could see that Kaworu wasn't lying and was a trustworthy person.
"At least we'll have four EVAs on standby..." Kaji said as he thought of Rei, but Kaworu quickly spoke up.
"No, unfortunately that won't be possible." Kaji looked at him doubtfully and Kaworu explained.
"Unit 13 isn't like the other EVAs, it's like Unit 1... only I can fly it, it only accepts me as a pilot, not even Shinji could synchronize it."
"But... during the fourth impact, I flew alongside you." Shinji said, confused by his memories.
"Yes, but I was there, my synchronization was being used as a bridge between you and the EVA, if I left it would shut down." Kaworu spoke explaining his point, he could sense that Dr. Akagi was struggling to make Rei compatible with unit 13, but that wasn't going to be possible, Kaji nodded at this information, he raised his eyebrows as he thought about how they could change that, but it wasn't his sector, Shinji thought about preparing for a fight.
"I'm going back now, I'm going to train a bit on the simulators."
"Of course, but don't think about it too much, things will work out in their own way." Kaworu said, knowing how things would turn out in the battle, with a downcast smile he thought about the future.
Calmly he could see Kaji leading Shinji out of the detention area, sitting back down on the bed he wondered if he could change things so that Shinji could be a happy person, if he could change his mind so that he could hide all his pain.
"Damn... Why can't we change things between our species?"
(*
"Then all my work was useless." Ritsuko said as she stood next to Misato watching the conversation on camera.
"Did he tell the truth about Rei and Unit 13?" Misato asked with a dark look as she looked at the screen, she could see Kaworu sitting on the bed with a pensive look on his face.
"It's quite possible, nothing can make unit 13 work, it really matches the information he's just given us." Ritsuko said as she smoked her cigarette.
"What about the enemy? Do you think he told the truth?" Misato asked again, her voice cold from having heard how Shinji felt in the small talk with Kaji in the corridors, hearing it hurt his heart and spirit.
"He has a good friendship with Shinji, so I don't see any reason for him to lie like that, so we can stay on alert for this approaching enemy." Ritsuko replied as she looked at WILLE's sensors, but nothing was out of the ordinary.
"I hate that feeling, I don't know if it's better to be taken by surprise or to wait for him to show up." Misato said angrily as she turned off the video.
"We'll do as we always do, when the enemy appears we'll find a way to kill them and we'll prosper, one day the angels will end and we can go back to killing each other like we've always done in the history of mankind." Ritsuko said humorously as she finished smoking her cigarette.
"You have a distorted view of reality." Misato said tiredly as she thought about it, she didn't care about war anymore, the angels had had enough.
"And am I wrong? We're at peace because of the angels." Said the fake blonde as she spoke with black humor, but she glanced at her watch as she saw that she had more to do.
"I'm going back to the EVAS, I want them perfect when the enemy arrives."
"Do it." Misato spoke dejectedly as she was left with only her thoughts, she wondered if she should go home and dwell on the past for a while, but could she manage that? Grumbling at not getting the magical answer she wanted, she picked up the papers on her desk, trying to change her thoughts.
Picking up her phone, she thought it would be good for Asuka and Mari to be training at a time like this, especially knowing that a battle was approaching.
"Hello..." Mari's voice answered on the other end of the line, she could sense that the girl was sleepy, Misato didn't even mind.
"Mari, wake up Asuka and come to WILLE... I want you to have a new training routine, so come." Misato spoke coldly, even though she didn't want to.
"But why?... it's practically dawn now..." Mari muttered on the other end of the line, but Misato didn't care.
"Mari, just come." The woman ordered calmly as she hung up the line. Misato slowly buried her head in her hands as she felt the anxiety taking over her body.
"Just please don't hurt them." Misato prayed to any deity who might be listening, she would hate to feel the sensation of losing some of the pilots again, especially after having experienced it with Shinji after the third impact.
"Please."
