Chapter Three: "False News"
Jason and Kat were now driving through Limbo City at night, with Kat being on the phone with Vergil.
"... Yeah, we'll meet you there", she tells him over her bluetooth, "see you soon, Vergil", and ends the call.
"You guys seem tight", Jason comments, leaning back in his seat sans jacket, "How'd you meet?"
Kat hesitates, "Is it relevant?"
"I'd like to know who I'm risking life and limb with", Jason replies, "He's my brother and he's trying to save the world", he looks to her, "What's your story?", she continues to remain tight lip and he sighs, "Listen. I never asked for your help but you gave it and I appreciate it. I trust you. You can trust me too."
Kat shits in her seat while in thought, looking to Jason for a second before finally speaking, "He rescued me.", she shares, taking of her hood, "I was in a foster home. My foster father was a demon. He attacked me most nights. I had to get out."
"The nightmares", Jason realizes in a sombering manner.
"It's ok. I felt nothing", Kat says to comfort him in saying it wasn't to bad, he felt she was lying, "I couldn't physically escape, so... I fount another way. I... aimlessly wandered Limbo in spirit form. I found Vergil there. He heard my cry for help", tears collected in her eyes, "He helped me to fight the demons, both figuratively and literally.", she looks to Jason, "I killed the bastard", referring to her foster father, "Now I want to deal with them all", she sighed before asking him, "You're going to stick with us to the end, right?".
"Count on it", Jason affirms.
It was pass day break as they arrive at their destination on a bridge over a river or canal.
Vergil was there to greet them while wearing his dumb fedora, "You did well", he compliments their work as they walk to stand before him, "We've dealt with the succubus. That will have hurt Mundus and got his attention. Now to land the second blow, and disable Mundus' monitoring network", they all turn to look at the tower over the water, "Raptor News Tower. Controlled by Mundus, they've a monopoly over the world's media: news, advertising, entertainment".
"Mind Control", Jason adds in.
Vergil nods, "Yeah. And surveillance", he adds on, "They spy on the populace through their network of satellites, routers, and CCTV cameras.
"Yeah, I've noticed that bit", Jason cuts in, remembering the cameras that dragged him into Limber, "So what's the plan?", he asks.
"Kat", Vergil directs attention to.
"The Raptor News Network is run by a demon, Bob Barbas", Kat shares.
"Bob Barbas is a demon?", Jason questions, "So he's more than just a fucking dick...", he mutters, "And he's in that tower?", looking to the tower in the skyline.
"Not that tower", Kat denies before pointing down, directing his attention to the reflection within the water, "That one".
Jason was honestly stumped, "Huh?"
"In Limbo, that's not a reflection, it's the real deal", Vergil tells him, "It's a prison and Barbas rules it cruelly. There's no mercy and no escape."
Jason is resolved to do this though as he stands tall.
Vergil looks to Kat, "Prepare the gateway", and she begins to prepare it for Jason. Vergil looks to Jason, "You'll have to go alone this time. Kat can't follow where you're headed.".
"Alone is fine", Jason responds, "She's done enough".
"On the plus side, there won't be any cameras down there", Vergil supplies in comfort.
"Good", Jason rejoices while pointing at his brother before going to stand in the gateway.
"Dante", Kat says as it activates, "we don't know much about this demon."
"I'm sure it will be lovely", Jason jokes with a smug smirk to her before looking straight to the tower, while Vergil looks to Kat in thought.
Unlike usual, Jason fell straight down through the bridge as he enters Limbo. He dives into the water as the environment warped a little in coloration, with constant rain in the air. Jason lands on the leg of the bridge, he rolls before running down and landing on a floating platform.
He took the chance to look to look around and everything appeared to be upside-down.
"Well Bob, now I get why your point of view is so upside-down", Jason jokingly comments.
He's sees spotlights coming from the tower along with a rhythmic dome of light coming from it.
Jason jumps to another platform before him, and then the next, and then the next before coming to a hanging bus. Due to the gravity of the situation, he could use it as a platform to get to the main bridge, though it shifted due to his own gravity pull to the opposite direction.
He then climbs onto the bridge and stands before a red crystalline barrier. It was red, so he tried attacking with Arbiter but he just bounces off. After a moment of thought, he switches to Eryx.
He throws a punch and it instantly breaks through it, "Boom!", he cheers before looking at his new weapon in smug happiness at its power.
Jason looks forward to see no path ahead but does see a blackened circle of the crimson stone. He runs forward and hits it down.
The bridge breaks apart and a car becomes a platform for Jason. He then Angel Lifts a few times to a Virility truck. His path is blocked by another truck but he uses Eryx to hit it back.It hits a bus and breaks the bridge, causing it to collapse upwards with the bus.
Jason then Angel Boosts to the truck he hit before Angel Lifting to the bridge before another red crystal block crosses his path.
He busts through and is soon greeted by a part of the bridge rising up and twists to reveal a Death Knight. It hops onto the remaining bridge while the broken pieces fall away.
Jason Demon Pulls away its shield and uses Eryx to and gives a three piece before giving an uppercut. He the charges energy into his next punch and hits the Death Knight as it falls, a flaming astral fist that resembles the gauntlet appears ashe attacks. Jason repeats this till he destroys the Death Knight.
Another Death Knight then appears and he instead Demon Pulls the shield and punches it off the broken edge of the bridge that appeared.
The black stuff that covered the next red crystal barrier vanishes, allowing Jason to break it away and move forward.
The next stage gets the black covering over the exit as the bridge ripples towards him before pieces break out to reveal two Death Knights. They hop off the price and unlike last time, they move back into place, keeping the bridge in this area whole this time.
Jason immediately Demon Pulls their shields. He rushes one and does a Brawler combo till it dies.
A Hell Knight spawn in as a result, so Jason targets it next, since it had an area of effect attack, unlike the remaining Death Knight.
Jason charged an Uppercut, this led to him going up with the Hell Knight once he attacked. he then repeatedly did a Showdown with Demon Pull combo till it died.
It was now just Jason and the last Death Knight. Jason did a Brawler combo on it before finishing it with a charged Slam combo.
Three Stygians then appear on the bridge. Jason made quick work of them with Rebellion, using a Death Coil combo for each.
A Tyrant soon spawns in from where the exit is.
It rushes Jason but he jumps over the bulldozing demon. He then Demon Pulls at it's spine and it falls onto its back. Jason then repeatedly hit it with Eryx before it got up again. He dodges as it berserks around the bridge before he uses a fully charged Uppercut to knock it out of berserker and into the air before he then wailed on it till it dies.
The black barrier soon vanishes, allowing Jason to approach to crimson crystals for Eryx to break.
Once Jason punches through, he comes before the Central Penitentiary, which was also upside down to him.
"Wow, so even Limbo has a slammer", Jason remarks at that fact, "Never thought I'd have to break into jail".
He sees a platform to his left and Angel Lifts up to it. He has to Demon Pull another platform to right it so he can hop to it. he jumps to it then Angel Lifts to another. He Demon Pulls another out of a wall and hops to it and then the one beyond that.
Next, Jason Angel Lifts to a lamp post and Demon Pulls out another platform to land on before he falls into the sky below him.
Jason then jumps to another platform, where a crystal blocked path resides.
"Ah-ha, let's give it a crack", Jason says to himself before using Eryx to get through into the prison.
Jason could hear Barbas over the intercoms of the prison, taunting the souls of those damned within. He could see the shadowy figures of those suffering on the "ground" above him.
"Just doing God's work, are ya Bob?", Jason satirically asks aloud.
He looks around and spots a glowing ring in the air, Jason Angel Lifts to it and feels supercharged from it. He Angel Boosts and is forcefully launched to one direction where he then lands on a platform towards the tower.
Jason goes to move forward, but a wall with a screen showing Bob Barbas' ugly face then blocked his path.
"Dammit... gonna have to take a detour", Jason says before Angel Lifting to another Boost Ring to his left into another area that Jason would guess is close to the docks in the real world due to the shipping containers and cranes.
Jason Angel Lifts to another platform. Instead of exploring the area, he follows a path a platforms to a building, briefly dealing with two Shield Bathos.
He jumps out onto another platform, where the tower was once again in eyesight.
"Ok, there's the tower", Jason comments to himself, "Back on track".
Jason once again Angel Lifts to a Boost Ring and is launched to a warehouse, where he sees a demon he hasn't seen before.
"Whatever you are, get the hell out of here!", Jason yells out it before it scampers away into the open warehouse.
Before going in, Jason stops at the convenient Divinity Statue and upgrades Eryx as much as he could.
He steps into the warehouse on it's "ceiling", before the door closes behind him, he looks up to see the victims of this prison writhing in agony above.
"Poor bastards", he remarks to the torture before some Stygians and a Hell Knight spawn into the room.
Like always, he attacks to more powerful foe, Demon Pulling the Hell Knight's shield andUppercutting it into the air, where he then did Showdown and and Demon Pull till it dies.
A Frost Knight spawns in to replace it, so Jason continues to ignore the Stygians and attacked the Knight. He immediately switches to Osiris and uses Prop and Shredder to attack it in a way it can't fight back while simultaneously defending from the Stygians as they get caught in the spinning scythe.
Once it was dead, Jason focused on the Stygians, defeating them using mostly Hacker and Death Coil. Another three Stygian spawn in and are dealt with in a similar manner, adding in some Osiris Karma.
Once they were dead, both a Hell Knight and a Frost Knight burst from the walls to kill him.
Jason focused on the Hell Knight due to it's area attack, switching between Eryx and Arbiter for better damage. Like going in with a Slam but changing it mid combo to a Trinity Smash.
Once the Hell Knight was gone, Jason simply used Prop and Shredder on it till death.
After he defeated all the demons in the warehouse, the black stuff disappears to reveal a gap for Jason to Angel Lift through, entering some kind of back alley.
He goes left to enter another warehouse that demon from earlier. It appears like a bald porcupine rat hybrid with grey skin and ember eyes that was about the size of a cub or something.
"Go on, get lost!", Jason yells at it and the demonic animal runs away. Jason shakes his head in annoyance, not noticing a bigger variant of the creature was crailing in behind him along the "floor".
It jumps to the floor as Jason turns around to see it.
It was bigger and a lighter color than its spawn. it had the quills on its back like a porcupine and talon like claws on it paws. it was about the size of a lion-ape thing, bigger than a human if it stands on its hind legs. This demon is referred to as a Rage.
"Ah great", Jason sighs, "Here comes mommy", before launching at it with a Stinger into a Trillion Stab.
It recovers and black quills rise from its back and shake. Jason attacks it with a Drive before it can do anything, causing these quills to vanish as the Rage is sent into a wall.
Suddenly, another Rage swipes at him from behind. Jason takes the hit but evades before it could another one in. Jason finishes the first one with a Death Coil, this is what causes the second one to go berserk, as they can't handle the sight of losing one of their own.
It rolls up and spins to attack, sonic the hedgehog style, but Jason simply jumps over it. Jason used Osiris' Prop and Shredder, but the Rage spins out of it during the attack. He goes for a Stinger to knock it back, but it doesn't do much damage, so he focuses on evading till it leaves its berserk state.
Jason then did a Hightime to send them both into the air and he did Aerial Rave on it till it died, allowing him to continue forward for the tower.
He follows the hallway back outside where he enters onto a construction sight, spotting the Rage Spawn from earlier again, along with two other Spawns.
Due to the bars in the way, Jason decides to use the elevator that was up at street level.
Jason goes to head up the ramp that was to the left before it fell up, leaving him to jump across the gap.
He arrives to a small area with a Hell Knight and two Shield Pathos to greet him.
Jason decided to deal with the Pathos first so he is getting shot while dealing with the Knight. He Demon Pulls their shields and Angel Lifts to them before doing Aerial Rave to they both died.
He then Demon Pulls the shield of the Hell Knight and combos it with both Arbiter and Eryx, starting with Judgement before ding a Slam and finishing it with an Uppercut.
With the demons now dead, Jason continues to climb up to the elevator, Angel Lifting and Angel Boosting till he arrived.
"Going down?", Jason rhetorically asks as the doors close before he Stomps on the crystal, sending the lift down to the "top" floor, "Smashing", he jokes as he leaves the elevator.
He enters the room to more red crystals on the ground so he does another Stomp, entering a big room where he can see the tower through the missing wall, also being greeted by two Rages.
Jason switches to Osiris for crowd-control so the beastly demons to gang up on him, spamming Karma and Streak on the duo demons. he lucked out though and hit both of them over the edge and they fell down into the sky.
He Angel Lifts to the only way forward, running straight into a Divinity Statue, where he replenished his stocks.
The only way forward is a gap to the left over some black spikes, so he Angel Lifts through it onto a train bridge that leads almost directly to the RNN tower.
"Coming for you Bob", Jason says as he runs across.
However, the bridge begins to twist around as Limbo shows, 'DESTROY', before the bridge then breaks completely.
"Woah!", Jason yells as he avoids a piece of the debri before a train that was about to go over it then derails in an extreme fashion, hitting the bridge and the buildings behind Jason, with him having to jump out of the way of the final car.
Jason walks to the edge of his only way across in frustration, "Oh great", he then hears a noisy screch to his left. Looking over, Jason sees a man being swarmed by winged beings.
"What's going on there?", Jason asks himself.
He Angel Lifts over to one of the train cars that was now floating in the air. He runs along if before jumping to the next one. He then Angel Lifts to a Boost Ring and Angel Boosts to the car stuck in a building next to the area where the man was being attacked.
"Leave me alone...", the man calls out the the winged demons as he tries to swat them with a cane in hand.
Jason Angel Boosts onto the same landing as them, causing most of them to fly away, save for one.
Jason saw that it was a feminine humanoid, covered in white porcelain. It had what looked like reddish roses in place of hair. Most notably was it's red feathered wings. Like Stygians, its right arm was a weapon, spearlike in appearance. This is a Harpy.
Jason shoots the bitch with his trusty Ebony and Ivory guns, quickly tearing apart its wings and leaving it ground bound before finishing it with a Death Coil.
Two more Harpies then appear. Jason repeatedly shot them but this time they fell straight into the sky and died.
Now it was just Jason and the prisoner.
He was an elderly, balding demon with indigo skin and gaunt features. He has pointed ears, a small mustache and beard, and wears exquisite robes. The right half of his head at is missing, with mechanical attachments left within the gap in his head.
The prisoner was swinging is cane in the air as Jason is approaching him, "Who's there? I know you're there! I can feel you.", he wildly swings as Jason dodges it, "Who is it? I'll cut your head off!", before Jason stops him.
"Put your stick down!", Jason says, "I'm not going to hurt you", he says before adding, "Unless you give me a reason to".
The blind prisoner calms down, "Are you a prisoner of Mundus too?", he asks Jason.
"No. I'm fro upstairs", Jason answers before walking before him and pointing to the RNN tower, "Now, can you tell me how to get to that tower
"The tower? Why?", the prisoner asks with suspicion.
"Cus i want to kill the demon that runs this show", Jason flippantly responds before turning to the demonic prisoner, "Will you help me?"
"Kill it?", the prisoner asks in thought, "Yes. I can help", before looking back to Jason, "If you help me first
Jason sighs before agreeing, "Let's hear it".
"Those flying bastards stole my eye., he tells Jason, holding his missing portion, "They torment me incessantly. I can't leave here without it. I'm trapped for eternity", he turns to Jason, "Get me back my eye, and I'll take you to the tower."
The plan was simple. Jason would wait on a distant train for the Harpies while the demon prisoner would draw them out.
"Over here! Flying Bastards!", the prisoner calls out for the Harpies, "Come", and they did come for him.
Jason then jumps back to the landing and the Harpies began to leave again.
"Go, go! Follow them!", the prisoner yells out, "Find their nest".
Jason Angel Lifts up to where they went, which appears to be a subway entrance.
He turns to the left to see them looking at him following, "yeah that's it, lead the way", Jason taunts as he follows, Angel Lifting to the next point.
They fly over a point that is too high for his double jump so he Demon Pulls for another small platform. Only for it to back away from him as he tries to jump onto it and the floor to lift up so he can't just run to it.
"You little bastards", Jason insults the Harpies as Limbo taunts him with, 'COME CLOSER'.
Jason Angel Lifts to a higher point to his left and is greeted by red crystals that he soon smashes with Eryx. He runs forward to a gap where he then Angel Pulls a floating platform, righting it and revealing a Boost Ring. Angel Lifting to it the Angel Boosting down to the Harpies.
"Aha, there you are", he yells out to them before running to them as they fly to the right of a dark hall, only for a train to cut him off, "Whoa!", revealing it to be the subway tracks.
Once the train passes, he runs onto the two-lane tracks after the Harpies. It then extends and appears more demonic as Limbor repeats, 'COME CLOSER'. he runs further down the darkened tracks before Angel Boosting over a gap. He is soon greeted by a runaway train that had a demonic face on it barreling towards him.
"Oh shit!", he yells out before moving to the far side of the hall in time, opposite of the in-use track, allowing it to pass him by.
He runs forward again and Angel Boosts over another gap before another train comes for him. He stays on the other side as it passes and heads for the third gap, where he has to Angel Lift over then Angel Boosts.
Jason then sees the Harpies hovering in a boarding zone, "Flying bastards", he insults again as they then fly to the left. He hops down into the drop off area and is greeted by a Hell Knight and some Lesser Stygians, "You wanna play?!", he taunts before attacking.
He Demon Pulls the shield before just going Brawler with Eryx on it till it dies. He then uses Uppercut to send the L Stygians into the passing trains, killing them instantly.
With their defeats, three Stygians spawn in and Jason repeats the process.
Once they were gone, two Death Knights and a Frosted Knight appear. Figuring i would be easier, Jason rips the Shields away from the Death Knights and get in close with the three before using Osiris' Prop to send them into the air where they met a train head on.
With them defeated, Jason was able to move forward after the Hapries once more. He jumps up to the pathway and runs down the stairs, dealing with Demonic Shards as he went down before coming to red crystals.
He enters a hall that leads to the center of the station, with a Divinity Statue right before him. He stops to do what he needs before then running down the hall after the Harpies, dealing with some Demonic Shards that appeared to slow him.
He sees a semi-organic cone from the "floor" of the station to the glass "ceiling"
"That must be the nest", Jason remarks before hopping into the room.
He falls to the glass ceiling and lands on it. Sadly, it begins to crack, meaning it was going to break and Jason could fall into the sky below. So, he runs for the center of it, which was a metal circle.
"Why am I doing this for some crusty old demon?", Jason asks himself in annoyance before remembering that he needed help getting to Barbas' tower, "Oh yeah, that's why".
Jason spots the needed item in the nest, practically right in front of him. He Demon Pulls it out and it flies to him.
"Got it", he states as he caught it, "So you must be the eye".
he then hears a shrill shriek of the Harpies as Limbo shows, "KILL TRAPPED DIE", around the room. before a swarm of Harpies fly in.
"An ambush...", Jason notes, "You flocking bastards".
he immediate opens fire on them with Ebony and Ivory, remembering to target the wings. Each Harpy fell one by one, going straight through the glass and to their deaths. Some Bathos also appeared and he dealt with them in a similar way. He even used Ricochet Shot to deal with multiple at once.
"That was a cracking good fight", Jason jokes as he finishes dealing with the fliers, "now, how do I get back".
Funnily enough, it was the path that had a green sign that read 'WAY OUT' on it
Jason then retraced his steps back the way he came, dealing with Demonic Shards, Two Rage, Two Stygians, more Demonic Shards, Two Death Knights, and a Tyrant, before meeting with the prisoner again.
The Prisoner notices Jason's arrival, "Who's there?", he demands, readying his stick,
"It is I", Jason puns while holding up the mechanical head attachment that had the eye.
"The eye? You have it? Have you?", the prisoner asks, holding his hand out.
Jason sets it in his hand and the prisoner reattaches it to his head in the missing portion.
He looks around before joyously stating, "I can see!", he turns to Jason, "I can see!", now getting his vision back, he realizes who Jason is, "Dante..."
"You know me?", Jason asks, preparing for a fight.
"No", he looks at Jason up and down, "I knew your father, Sparda. I can see him in you"
"Sparda was a demon and I'm nothing like him", Jason denies.
"No. Of course", the prisoner agrees, "You are Nephalem. I can see that too".
Jason cynically shakes his head before asking the prisoner, "What are you?", as he knew him and the prisoner was a unique demon, not looking like any other Jason had seen.
"Phineas", he introduces himself, holding out a hand for Jason to shake, "Scholar, inventer, prophet..."
"Demon", Jason adds, ignore the hand.
Phineas lowers his hand, "And until you arrived, political prisoner of Mundus.", he finishes, "I a grateful".
"It wasn't a favor", Jason states, "You said you'd take me to that tower.", gesturing to his target.
"Of course, my friend, of course", Phineas agrees, "This way."
The duo make it to the train bridge where Jason was when he discovered Phineas being attacked.
"You were blinded and imprisoned here for how long?", Jason asks the scholar.
"Hundreds of years", Phineas replies, directing Jason down the bridge.
"Are you sure you know your way around?", Jason question him as they approach the edge.
"Like the back of my hand", Phineas replies, about to walk over the edge.
"Whoa!", Jason stops him with a hand on the shoulder, "Are you nuts?".
Phineas looks to him, "I forget", before saying, "You and I see things differently", he turns to the broken train track bridge, "Seeing things differently can open new paths."
"What do you mean?", Jason asks him.
"You only see evil in me because I am a demon", Phineas turns to him, "Try opening your mind", he looks to the broken bridge again, "It's all.. a matter.. of perspective", as he then adjusts his mechanical eye, making it as though Limbo is reversing the damage to the train bridge, making it whole once more.
"What?", Jason incredulity asks.
"As I said, I see things differently", Phineas reminds him, before he then begins to vanish, "We'll meet up ahead. I have something to show you".
Jason runs across the reformed bridge till he comes across a point on a brick wall that Arbiter can break through.
He enters into the building and runs along the halls till he comes across another opening with a massive statue appearing in the skyline that isn't within Limbo City.
The statue was made of metal and of two women with feather wings. They both looked alike, making Jason believe they were twins or the same person.
Phineas appears in a ripple effect as Jason runs up next to him, looking to the statue.
"Her name was Assiel.", he tells Jason, "An ancient one. Nephalem like you".
"I didn't know there were others", Jason responds, Vergil never mentioned such.
"The Nephalem were the third race, before Fallen and Demon rose", Phineas informs him, "Sadly, they were hunted down and slain".
"Why?", Jason asks of him, curious how his original people died.
"They wielded the power of both Angel and Devil, Holy and Unholy, Light and Darkness.", Phineas shares, "They were formidable!".
"Which made them a threat", Jason supplies, "Like me".
"And like ou, they held great potential", Phineas adds, "What a waste", he gets in close with Jason, "You want to reach your full potential?", he gestures to the Statue of Assiel, "Perhaps... Assiel holds the key".
Jason looks to the statue, he sees a series of walls floating down to one of the wings.
He Angel Boosts between the pieces to the wing, they were pretty far apart and lower in the sky, causing him to abuse the gliding feature of Angel Boost to cross them to the statue.
Once the lands on the wing, he is greeted by a blue-skinned woman, with dark blue hair and indigo crystals covering parts of her body. she had a blue astral orb surrounding her like a shield.
"Assiel?", Jason inquires as she looks kind of like the statue to him. She looks directly at him and he realized his mistake upon seeing her snake-like nostrils, "Nope, it's a fucking demon", specifically referred to as Witch
It summons black spikes from under him, knocking him away. Jason fires on the Witch with his dual guns but to no effect.
Jason then switches to Osiris and uses Shredder on the shield. It breaks away as angelic power is its weakness and he is able to hurt the Witch now. He does a Death Coil before she seems to teleport away from him. Jason shoots the Witch with Ebony and Ivory again, this time damaging her and she dies.
"Good riddance", Jason comments at his foe's defeat.
Jason then looks to the statue, where the head nearest to him actually turns to him with glowing eyes, "Nephalem", he hears a woman moan out.
He grabs his amulet while the statue turns its head back to its true position. Jason looks up and notices an emblem, the same as the one on his back, floating between the hands of the two women of the statue.
"Right... Assiel holds the key...", Jason says, certain that is what Phineas meant for him to retrieve.
Jason Angel Lifts to a fragment of one of the broken wings and then to another before Demon Pulling one out and Angel Lifting through to another wing fragment he could use as a platform. He jumps, Angel Lifts, and Angel Boosts between fragments till he has a more clear approach to the emblem.
He Angel Lifts to a Boost Ring and boosts to the emblem grabbing it and landing on another broken wing, "Got it", he states before he is then brought back to his mindscape or whatever it is.
"Alright, let's see what happens", Jason says before heading for the chain holding statue.
It was rather close, Jason only had to traverse between three platforms. Though, the oe holding the gargoyle was unusually big. He breaks the stone statue and the chain falls into the water like the previous times.
The distant statue turns to him once more before its eyes shimmered. Its hands rise before it then breaks the chains that tethered its hands together. A plate on its torso armor also breaks away, revealing a glow that spreads out from it
Jason then experiences a vision of a redheaded woman cloaked in white, it was his mother, Eva.
"Dante", she says, "you are here because I was unable to protect you. For that, I am truly sorry. your father fell in love with me. A love that transgressed rigid ancient boundaries. We chose our path in face of certain annihilation. We never regretted our choices, but we never gave you yours, my dear son. Now finally you have that choice. You will have a great power. POwer that will allow you to forge your own path. That my son is freedom. Be brave my son. I love you."
The vision ends and Jason is soon greeted by three Ravagers.
Jason feels a surge of power and he screams. He rises into the air as his coat turns red with red astral energy floating around him as the environment whitens while his scream echoes throughout the world. His skin pales and his hair turns white. The sclera of his eyes become red while his irises become white and red veins cover his skin.
He lands back on the ground and the Ravagers are then launched into the air, prone and unable to fight back. He takes a cautious step forward, leaving behind fiery red footprints in his wake.
Jason then Angel Lifts to a Ravager and mercilessly attacks it with Rebellion till it dies. He repeats this process with the other ones before he turns back to normal, unable t hold the form.
Jason then returns where Phineas calls out to him from a higher point, "Dante!", he then uses his eye to shift Limbo to allow Jason to move forward.
"Oh right, the tower", Jason remembers, as that experience took him out of it, "On my way!", he calls out to Phineas.
He Angel Lifts and Boosts into another warehouse, where he is greeted by two Rages.
Jason tries to use that power up and he transforms with the Rage going airborne and he quickly defeats them.
He transforms back and soon after, a Witch and four Stygians spawn in. The Witch summons a demonic sword a prepares to throw it at Jason but Jason shoots it till it breaks.
He then tries to transform again, but he can't for some reason. Like it's on or cool down or something.
So he instead charges the Witch and destroys the shield with Osiris. Before then wailing on her with Rebellion.
Now, he was left with the four Stygians. For the hell of it, he used Osiris and attacked with Karma and Cleaver till they were defeated and he was able to leave.
He exits onto a crated landing and then Angel Lifts to his right where a Divinity Statue was waiting. He uses it to upgrade everything he can before leaving the statue.
He turns and runs to the edge where he Angel LIfts and Boosts to another platform, and traversing around the Statue of Assiel once more before entering another warehouse with grate floors and a cross shaped gap in the room that could lead to him falling into the sky.
He is first greeted by two Harpies appearing in the room.
Jason quickly shoots their wings away to take away their flight. Once he killed one of them with Rebellion, two Death Knights also spawn in. He ignores them, Angel Lifting to the remaining Harpy and Aerial Raves it to death with Rebellion.
While still in the air, Jason Demon Pulls one of the shields away and uses Arbiter's Aerial Flush, causing the Death Knight to and sending it flying into the cross gap. He then uses the Judgement combo to kill the second Death Knight.
Soon after, two Shield Bathos and two more Death Knights spawn into the room. Jason immediately Demon Pulls the shields away and fires on the Bathos till they burst in a shower of orbs. he then rips th shields away from the Death Knights and uses Eryx to knock them into the gap to their deaths.
A Witch then appears with two Harpies in tow.
Due to its abilities, Jason attacks the Witch first. He uses Osiris to break away the shield, while avoiding the Harpy spears, and attacks with Rebellion till it is defeated. He then shoots the harpy wings and luckily they fall into the cross gap to their deaths and allowing him to leave the room.
Jason runs out and begins to do a series of Angel Lifts till he meets with Phineas again.
"That was wild", Jason shares with a smile.
Phineas looks to him, "Come here", he asks of him and Jason does, allowing Phineas to get a good look at him, "You've unlocked you inner angel alright", he spots a white patch now in Jason's hair, "and a little bit of your devil. But even with that Trigger, you have yet to discover your full potential."
Jason could kind of understand that. This... Angel Trigger felt incomplete and short term right now. Not to mention, he didn't unlock a Devil trigger. But he dismisses these thoughts for now.
"Mainly I just kill the demon king named Mundus", Jason says.
"And if you do kill Mundus... Who will take his place?", Phineas inquires, leaving Jason with that somber thought.
The duo than make their way closer to the tower.
"I'm no longer suited for violence", Phineas shares with Jason as they approach another twisted bridge, "I cannot proceed".
"Thank you Phineas", Jason says.
"it wasn't quite a favor", Phineas tells him, "I want to see Mundus destroyed... And I now believe you may stand a chance."
Jason nods before asking, "What made you change your mind?"
Phineas abruptly turns to him, "You were right. Your not just like your father. I see your mother in you too. You want to hit Mundus hard. This is how. Mundus has power almost beyond limit. But... he has one weakness".
Jason is taken aback, "He has a weakness?", he asks of the scholar.
"Yes", Phineas replies, "His mistress, Lilith."
"His weakness is that he loves her?", Jason asks in disbelief.
This caused Phineas to laugh, "Mundus? Love? No, my friend", as he steps closer to Jason, "Yet, she has recently become the most important thing in creation to him. This is what I have seen.", and he leans in close to Jason, whispering, "Lilith, his mistress, carries his child. His heir.", he leans back out, "You want to hurt Mundus?", he then whispers directly into Jason's ear, "Kill Lilith. Kill the child. Nothing will hurt him more.", and he backs away, "But be warned, the fury of Mundus is boundless. Many thousand could perish.
Phineas then adjusts his eye on the path before them, and it rights itself for Jason, "Good hunting, My Master", before Phineas vanishes before Jason for the last time.
Jason then begins to take the path that appears to lead him directly to the jumborons of the RNN tower. He made it about half way before the tower spotlights zeroed in on him.
He stops as the tower seems to charge energy before launching an energy cannon at the path before him. Jason flips back to dodge it and lands on the remain bridge.
Jason smirks, "God, I finally have your attention".
He Angel Boosts to another platform closer to the tower. He runs along it as another laser shot from the cannon follows him till he jumps to another platform. Another shot is fired, this time coming from where he is going, so Jason Angel Lifts with debri to another nearby platform.
This one is then shot and he slides down to another platform made from a train car and runs across it while being chased by another laser. He then Angel Lifts to and slides down another platform as he avoids more laser fire.
Jason then Angel Lifts along the debri to he finally Angel Lifts directly at the jumbotron and crashes into it.
Or rather, entering into the video itself.
Jason then experiences the opening graphic for the Raptor News Network before appearing on a digitized platform, with a series of them leading him to the red and blue globe of the network.
Jason Angel Lifts and Boosts across them till he enters into the RNN globe. He lands on a dark circle platform with a neon green outline in a black void with a series of video images flashing around from CCTV cameras.
Six neon red circles then glow before lines head for the center of the platform where digital lava explodes and Bob Barbas' fiery-orange face appears.
"This is Bob Barbas. Just doing God's work", the giant pixelated head known as Barbas states before a holographic monitor of the RNN broadcast appears over his face.
"Hey Bob", Jason calls out to him, "Put a spin on this", giving the fat man a middle finger.
The Bib Barbas on the air begins to speak, "My personal view on the terrorists is that they are a disgusting, degrading, ghastly, sleazy, prurient, and generally nauseating...", Jason gives a smug smirk at Barbas' bullshit, "The worst of them is Dante. The whole world would benefit greatly by his non-existence.", wiping away Jason's smirk.
He angrily points to the douchebag, "I'm taking you off the air!".
"You think so? I wouldn't bet on it, you little shit!", Barbas says before the news screen vanished as the battle began.
barbas launches this green energy at Jason with two 2-meter tall lasers were wiping to and from each other in a V shape at Jason. Jason jumped above the lasers. He notices one of the red circles was still active with the line to the center under Barbas, so he carefully moves towards it.
Barbas stops with the V lasers and prepares another attack, but Jason uses Eryx's Stomp, which stuns Barbas and he becomes a dull blue in color was him looking tired and old.
Jason rushes for the tunned head and unleashes combo with Rebellion, Eryx, and Arbiter on the head before an orange circle flashes under him around Barbas. Jason Angel Boosts out of it and it does a small dome explosion.
Safe again, Jason rushes with Stinger and Trillion Stab. A bigger circle appears and Jason Angel Boosts out of it again for the explosion.
Barbas is at it again and launches the green V lasers again. Jason heads for the new active red circle while Barbas unleashes three purple sweeper lasers about a foot tall and meters wide, so Jason had to Angel Boost to the circle, where he then did a Stomp.
He then rushes the stunned Barbas again and uses Arbiter's Judgement and switch to Eryx's Brawler.
Barbas is even more stunned and Jason notices a blue glint in his right eye.
Jason Angel Lifts it and goes to punch it, "Segue into this!", but he ends up going into it, transporting to the Bellevue Pier of the human world during a News Segment
Jason is the fighting an unending horde of Stygians while the News played.
"Now, what we have here is some truly shocking footage of the terrorist known as Dante, at the Bellevue Pier recently", Bob goes as Jason is killing the demon, "so what do we know about this Dante? Several people have now come forward and investigators have pieced together a shocking history of violence."
Bob goes on to explain, "At age 8, he attacked and killed the head nurse at St Lamia Orphanage. She was described as a sweet old lady who particularly enjoyed working with children".
That never happened. As far as Jason knew, the only old lady he encountered was Ma Gunn, and as far as he knew, that old crone was a normal human criminal.
Bob continues on, "Between the ages of 11 and 15, he broke out of no less than eight youth detention facilities, often mounting brutal, humiliating attacks against the prison officers just doing their jobs."
Another lie. Jason was never actually arrested before, and this is also when he became Robin. died and then resurrected, before then coming for Limbo City.
Bob persists with his news segment, "Between 16 and 17, he became involved in gangs, drug peddling, and is believed to be responsible for over a dozen homicides.", everything was a lie, except for the homicides, which could be those human disguised demons, "And worst of all, he was also a well known cruiser in the seedier districts of the city, rampantly spreading sexual disease of the unholy kind".
First part was most certainly true, but he never had an STD of any kind, let alone unholy.
"You're just mad I can get laid without having to pay for it", Jason taunts to Barbas.
Jason is then thrust out of Barbas' head and onto the disc platform in the void again.
bob glitches before roaring at Jason in anger and unleashes a white circled wall from around him to the disc edge, there were these green door gaps that Jason was able to stay safe in.
Jason also notices there was now two red circles active.
"You think you're cool? How about I kill you and piss on your corpse for cool points", Barbas taunts in a disgusting manner like the succubus did.
Jason quickly Stomps on the circles and stuns Barbas again. He uses Rebellion to Stinger then Trillion Stab Barbas again. the orange circle flashed under feet again and Jason dashes out for the explosion before dashing in with Eryx and does Brawler combos till th second circle flash and he Angel Boosts away from Barbas again.
Jason was already looking for the two red circle placements while Barbas starts another purple sweeper, this time with four lasers. Barbas then launches the green laser set after the first circle was Stomped.
Jason stuns him again with the Stomping of the second red circle. he goes in with Stinger and Trillion Stab again before the first of the orange circles flashes. He leaves then comes back in with Osiris' Streak before using Prop and Shredder to double stun Barbas.
He sees another glint in the left eye and Angel Lifts to it, "This is hard hitting news, Bob!", Jason jokes as he enters the eye with a punch.
This time, Jason appears in the mixing room of Virility in the human world for another news segment while he battled more Stygians.
This time there was "witness" statements about Jason's actions, with one girl saying ".. And he just started killing people. he looked me straight in the eye at one point. It was terrifying. He definitely had pedophile eyes.".
Another speaks this time, "I saw one girl, like, beg for her life. But, like, he said he was gonna kill her anyway... and then he did... like, totally!".
Then Bob Barbas speaks, "Since that horrific attack, it as come to light that Dante is involved in the terrorist organization called The Order. I have a message for the Order. The whole world is looking for you. every camera on every street corner, every police force in the country and worldwide. We will find you. We will destroy you. It's only a matter of time. This is Bob Barbas, from the Raptor News Network. Just doing God's work", it ends and Jason is transported back to the disc platform from Barbas' eye.
Jason then hears the RNN music and looks to see another monitor of the news.
"I interrupt this broadcast to bring you breaking news", Bob says over the monitor, "The terrorist organization responsible for the recent attacks has been located and is being stormed by SWAT teams as I speak".
"...No...", Jason denies in panic as the screen shows the SWAT getting into position.
Jason paces as Bob continues, "Two of the terrorists identified in these images are known to be in the compound", showing Vergil and Kat on screen.
"Bastards!", Jason barks in anger.
"A third terrorist has been cornered in another part of the city in a separate police raid", Bob states as an image of Jason was shown from when he was talking to Barbas during the fight, "Rest assured. Those responsible will be brought to justice at any moment, dead or alive. This is Bob Barbas of Raptor News Network. Just doing God's work." and the transmission ends.
Barbas laughs, "Hahahaha! You're cornered. We got you! We'll crush you! And you know what? We'll do it live! You SUCK! We're gonna do it Live! Hahahaha!".
This time, there were three red circles that Jason had to get to. Barbas launched another purple sweeper as Jason destroys two point before Barbas then launches a giant blue square laser like the one fro outside, from his face at Jason who hits the third spot and stuns Barbas.
Jason activates his Angel Trigger and wails on Barbas with Eryx, It didn't send him into the air or anything, must be because he's a powerful demon, But it did still increase Jason's strength greatly, as Jason finishes Barbas.
He yells and glows as light burst from him and the screen appears with Bob wobbling like in an earthquake.
"Breaking news Bob!", Jason calls out to the man on screen, "You're fired!", and he shoots a shot from both Ebony and Ivory at Bob on screen.
Bob Barbas stumbles as he holds where he was shot, gurgling as the then falls to the floor of the news studio, dead.
Jason then appears from Limbo into the empty studio before Barbas' body. A blue crystal appears before Jason from Barbas' body and Jason crabs onto it.
A pair of large, three-pointed cyclone blades with curved edges, one in each hand. He spins the one in his right hand as he examines them. Weirdly, Jason could feel Angelic power coming from them, like Bob Barbas wasn't a regular demon but a Fallen Angel or something.
Jason would name this new weapon Aquila. After the christian missionary that strengthen the faith in New Testament. The name is due to Barbas always saying he was just doing God's work.
Jason then leaves the studio for The Order HQ to help Kat and Vergil
