Okay, this plot is heavily based off of an episode from Batman Beyond: "Mind Games".

I hope everyone is okay with that.

I own nothing from Marvel, Spider-Man or DC

Chapter 5: Mind Over Matter

As Spider-Man began to web-swing after the fleeing truck, he immediately saw that the police were taking care of it. However, the truck sent a car flying when it crashed! Spidey quickly used his webs to catch the thrown vehicle before it hit anyone, plus took the guns away from the criminals in the truck.

A blonde-haired man with broad shoulders and wearing an expensive white suit was helped out of the webbed-vehicle, along with a woman that strongly resembled Morticia from The Addams Family, and a little girl that looked like Ellen Page.

Spidey perched on a nearby lamp-post, "Is everyone alright?"

"We're fine, thank you," The man answered. "We can take it from here."

With that, the family walked away, but the girl looked back at him with an almost...pleading look.

Spidey watched with curiosity, but didn't say anything.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Scene Change~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Peter made it to class just before the teacher closed the door.
"You seem to love cutting things close, Mr. Parker."
Peter chuckled nervously, then went to his seat between Ned and MJ.
"That didn't take as long as I thought," The latter whispered.
"The cops stopped them, but I had to save a family from a flying car," he whispered back.
The teacher started handing out the Algebra tests, which made them quiet down. Peter answered the first three questions easily, but then he silently gasped when he saw the same girl standing at the entrance to the classroom.
She had that same pleading look in her eyes, then she began to...hover over to him, "You have to help me. I don't wanna go. I refuse to go."
"Peter, what's the matter with you?" Ned asked.
"Do...do you guys see this kid?" Peter asked.
"What kid?" MJ asked.
He looked back, but she was gone, "Nevermind."
They shrugged and went back to their tests, but then Peter saw her again, "Please, you have to help me. I don't wanna go. Please help me."
Peter looked around to see if anyone else saw her, but they all focused on the test. MJ and Ned noticed that he looked a little frazzled, but they didn't seem to notice the girl either.
"Peter, seriously, are you okay?" MJ asked. "Maybe you need to go to the nurse."
"No, I'm fine," he assured her, then did his best to finish the test. Just after he answered the last question, the girl appeared again, saying the same thing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Scene Change~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"You saw the same girl that was with the family you saved, but you were the only one that could see and hear her?" Ned questioned.

"And she kept asking you to help her?" MJ added.

"Pretty much, yeah," Peter responded.

"Help you with what, though?" Ned asked.

"She wouldn't say," Peter replied. "All I know is that...I think something supernatural's going on."

"Well, in that case," MJ began. "Maybe you should talk to Doctor Strange."

Noon and Tessa perked up and looked at a lone corner of the living room/kitchen/dining room. Peter looked in that direction as well and saw the girl again.

"Guess what?"

"She's here?" Ned asked.

"Yep, right there," Peter pointed at where he saw her.

"Try talking to her," MJ suggested.

Peter turned to the girl, "What's your name?"

"Jodie," she answered. "I need your help."

"Yeah, I got that. Where are you?"

Jodie closed her eyes and a large pink whirlpool appeared behind her, then swirled around the two of them, changing the apartment into an expansive hotel penthouse suite.

Peter looked around with astonishment, "Whoa!"

"What do you see?" Ned asked.

"Not you two or the dogs. It looks like a hotel penthouse; her parents are on the phone."

"Can you ID the place?" MJ asked.

"Give me a minute," Peter looked out the expansive windows to see if he could recognize the location. With as much as he got around the city, it didn't take him long to figure it out.

"She's doing it again," The blonde man interjected. "You're calling again, aren't you?"

He stood up, looking agitated and started walking over to Jodie, who looked scared. Peter felt his Spider-Sense go off, so he got in the man's way, only for him to walk right through him, as if he were a ghost, then the image disappeared and Peter was back in his apartment.

"Whoa!"

"What happened?" Ned asked.

"'Daddy's' mad," Peter answered, but made air quotes when he said "Daddy".

"What do you mean?" asked MJ.

"I think that girl's been kidnapped," he replied.

"Which would make a good reason for why she needs help," Ned stated. "Did you recognize where the hotel was?"

"Yeah, the Mandarin Oriental," Peter answered. "That's steps away from Columbus Circle on the Upper West Side."

"Be careful, Peter," said MJ. "Something tells me you shouldn't underestimate these guys."

"Trust me, I won't," said Peter.

"Hey, what if you guys went in disguised as guests," Ned suggested. "Have dinner at the restaurant. That way, you can keep an eye out for when they leave the hotel."

"That's...actually not a bad idea," MJ perked up a bit.

But Peter had some reservations, "Uh, I'm not sure about you getting that close to this."

"It's not like I'm going up to the suite with you," she pointed out. "I'll be in the lobby or the restaurant the whole time."

"Okay, but the moment it looks like you're in trouble, call me," he advised.

"I know," she replied. "Slight problem, though; how are we gonna afford to eat there?"

"Ask Pepper," Ned answered.

"I can't ask her to do that," Peter protested.

"Tell her it's for a case," MJ said. "I'm sure she'll understand."

"Well, all right," Peter reluctantly conceded as he made the call.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Scene Change~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Turns out that paying for the young couple to eat at the Mandarin Oriental restaurant was pocket change for Pepper. Plus, once Peter explained that it was mostly for finding a kidnapped girl, she needed no further explanations.
Now, Peter and MJ sat across from each other at the restaurant. He was wearing a new tux and she was wearing the red and black dress that Pepper had given her for Prom.
"Where did you get that dress?" Peter asked.
"Pepper sent it to me," said MJ. "One of three dresses for senior prom, including the one I wore."
"Well, you look amazing," he complimented her, giving that grin she loved so much.
"Thanks," MJ said before she spotted someone out of the corner of her eye: the woman from Jodie's vision.
"That woman looks like she's from the Addams Family," she whispered. "Is she...?"
"Yeah, the same one," he whispered back.
The woman walked over to a short, obese looking man wearing a long white coat and all black. He also carried a black cane.
"That's not the same guy she was with before," Peter whispered.
"Maybe an extra ally?" MJ suggested. The woman spoke to the concierge at the front desk, then she and the short man left the hotel.
Peter finished his food, then got up, "Save me some dessert, please?"
"I'll try," she remarked, smirking.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Scene Change~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Peter, now in his costume, web-zipped up to the penthouse. He snuck in through the balcony and looked around. It was a nice place; it even had an indoor pool.

As he looked around for clues, his spider-sense tingled and he reflexively avoided a punch from the blonde man! Spidey retaliated with a spin-kick to his jaw, which knocked the man back, but he quickly rebounded like it was nothing!

The man rushed at him, but he expertly dodged every punch he threw! Spidey eventually backflipped over to a wall, only to dodge more of the blonde man's punches! Except...he didn't scream in pain when he punched the wall...!

Spidey kept avoiding getting hit, and the man's punches left significant cracks in the walls!

"What are you, Superman?!" he joked.

"This ain't Metropolis, kid," The man responded as he charged at the hero, who used his webs to swing up to the ceiling and cling there.

He then fired a taser-web at the man, but the electric current didn't even faze him! So, he shot a couple web-balls at the man's face, temporarily blinding him, then he sling-shotted toward him! Only for the man to actually catch him by his throat and choke-slam him! Spidey grunted in pain when he hit the floor as the man ripped the webs off his face, only for the hero to roll backwards and kick him off, through the window!

The man fell all the way to the street with a heavy impact! Spidey was beyond shocked, and it got worse when the man actually got up, without so much as a scratch on him! He brushed some dust off his shoulder, glared up at the wall-crawler and left the area. All the other hotel guests outside and the valets were also shocked at what just happened. However, their surprise quickly turned to panic as they bolted!

Peter slapped his masked forehead, "What the fuck...?"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Scene Change~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Peter returned to the dinner table and saw MJ eating a piece of chocolate cake. In fact, she'd somehow ordered an entire cake.
"Uh, I like cake too, but isn't this a bit much?" he asked her.
"I don't know, I was just in the mood for it," she shrugged.
"Oooookay," Peter said. "Anyway, I wasn't able to help Jodie. She's still out there, somewhere."
"I heard some of the people here talking about a man falling from the top of the hotel?" she said in a questioning tone.
"We can discuss that back at home," he whispered, then asked the waiter for the check.
~~~~~Scene Change~~~~~

"The guy hit the pavement, and walked away from it?!" Ned exclaimed.

"I couldn't believe it either," Peter responded. The three of them were back in their apartment, discussing what happened at the hotel. MJ was also drawing a mugshot of Jodie based on Peter description.

"And you still couldn't find the girl you were looking for?" asked Ned.

"No," Peter said, sadly. "I think I better do some investigating on this. Maybe Pepper might know something."

"If you wanna do some investigating, you should look up Jessica Jones," MJ suggested. "Even if she isn't a people person."

She finished her sketch and showed it to Peter, "Yeah, that's her." He put on his EDITH glasses and asked her to search the database for a match.

Eventually, the AI found one and it was the same girl, "Jodie Foster, reported missing two days ago..."

"2 days ago, huh?" Peter muttered. "That's when I met her, actually."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Scene Change~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Spidey, against his better judgement, perched on a rooftop across from Jessica Jones' apartment building. Given the woman's negativity, he never actually wanted to meet her, but he couldn't deny that she was an excellent investigator.
After Karen did a quick scan to determine what floor she was on; Spidey took a deep breath, web-zipped over to the building and knocked on one of the windows. Sure enough, Jessica Jones opened it and jumped a little when she saw the wall-crawler, but then looked a little annoyed.
"Jessica Jones, Private Eye?" he asked.
"That depends on who's asking," Jessica responded in a rather rude tone.
"The costume should give it away," he replied.
"What do you want?"
"I'm trying to find a missing girl; Jodie-"
"Foster?" Jessica finished for him. "Her parents are here."
Reluctantly, she let him crawl in through the window and he saw the couple. They looked like your everyday New York parents, but friendlier. The mother was even holding a plushie of Mew from Pokémon.
"You know something about Jodie?" Mrs. Foster asked.
"She's been...talking to me," Spidey tapped the side of head.
"She has powers?" Jessica asked.
"Psychic abilities," Mr. Foster elaborated. "We're not rich and raising Jodie's been tough, since she's not exactly normal."
"When they told us about their special school, it was like a God-send," Mrs. Foster continued. "Finally, she could get the help she needed. Right after they left with her, I realized I forgot to pack Mew, so called them."
"But no one answered?" Jessica guessed.
Mr. Foster slammed his fist on the coffee table, "None of the numbers! It was all bullshit, the whole school!"
"Where have they taken her? Where is my girl?" Mrs. Foster cried, holding Mew close and her husband hugged her.
"That's exactly what I'm trying to find out, Mrs. Foster," Spidey stated. "And until I do, it's gonna be my top priority."
"Please, if you can find a way to bring our daughter back home, Spider-Man, we'd be so grateful," Mrs. Foster said.
"Anything else you can tell us?" Jessica asked.
"Well, I heard the woman on the phone one time," Mrs. Foster answered. "She didn't know I was listening. She was talking about something called the Mind Scape like it was important. The Mind Scape."
A few minutes after they left, Jessica finally questioned why the Web-Head had come to her,
"So, did you also want me to find their daughter?"
"More like I wanted your help in finding her," he answered. "You're the best investigator I know of, besides my girlfriend."
Jessica sneered at Spidey.
"Don't give me that look," he told her. "I DO have a personal life outside of the costume."
"I don't work for free," she stated bluntly.
"She asked me for help two days ago, so technically; I was on the case first," he retorted. "But...*sigh* how much will your assistance cost?"
"For you...120 bucks."
Being smart, Peter had put some money in his back pocket before visiting the PI, in case she decided to charge him. And since he still had his clothes on under his materialized suit; he pulled $120 out.
She gave him a skeptical look, to which he responded, "Got me a little paper-route."
Jessica rolled her eyes but took the money anyway, "First things first...*sigh* we should check out that bullshit school."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Scene Change~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Spidey and Jessica were now walking down one of the hallways in the "School". He'd also given her an earpiece so she could hear Ned/"Guy In The Chair".

"There are only desks on this floor," Jessica stated quietly. "And the computers are just empty frames. But they did a good job in making it look like a school."

"Yeah," Spidey agreed. "Any luck on The Mind Scape?"

"It's an international society, very secretive," Ned answered. "Their HQ is somewhere in Europe, they think? Trying to see if Interpol has more."

"You're looking up Interpol?" Jessica questioned. "I'm actually impressed."

"There's a lot you don't know about me," Ned replied with a proud grin.

"If Jodie has psychic abilities, then it's obvious what they're all about," MJ said.

"Nothing was psychic about the guy at the hotel," Spidey mentioned.

"Oh no?" she questioned in her snarky tone. "Think about it; he was invulnerable and felt no pain, like shamans who walk on hot coals. It's mind over matter."

"...Okay, I think you have a point there," Spidey replied. "Karen, do you detect any heat signatures?"

"One, right behind that door," The trusty AI answered.

Spidey opened a door to one of the classrooms and the short, fat man from the hotel sitting on the floor.

"That's the guy who met the woman at the hotel," MJ recognized him.

Jessica marched over to the man, "Alright asshole, where's Jodie?"

The man suddenly floated off the floor and turned around, still sitting in lotus-position, with his hands folded. He opened his eyes, revealing pink irises and black sclera, before Jessica was knocked back by an invisible force!

"OOF!" Jessica cried, but luckily, Spidey used his webs to catch her so that she wouldn't hit the wall.

But before she even recovered, she clutched her head and screamed in pain! Spidey turned to the man, but his spider-sense tingled on a 9 out of 10 scale before he also clutched his head in pain!

The man was attempting to launch a psychic attack on his mind, which he realized must also be happening to Jessica! However, the buzzing of his spider-sense was fighting it, which made the man increase the power of his mental attack, but that also increased the buzzing!

It became so excruciatingly painful, the man had to stop his attack, forcing both him and Spidey to their knees. Both panted heavily, but the wallcrawler fired a taser web at the man, easily incapacitating him.

He breathed a sigh of relief as Jessica got up, groaning and holding her head.

"What the fuck happened?"

"He mind-whammied you," he answered. "Meaning he psychically attacked your mind, but I got lucky."

"How?"

"I have a sixth-sense that warns me of danger; it's like a tingle or buzz in the back of my head. The more he tried to invade my mind, the more intense the buzzing got," he explained.

"Until it became too much to bear," she finished. "Either way, Jodie's not here either."

"I know," he muttered, sounding frustrated. "Look, let's leave this guy for the police, then I'm gonna meet up with my friends."

Jessica sighed, "Yeah, fine. But if either of us find anything..." She pulled one of her business cards out of her pocket. Spidey took it and gave her his number, then they left.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Scene Change~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now back at their apartment, Peter was laying on top of MJ, holding the Mew plushie. If not for the stress he was feeling, he would've acknowledge that his girlfriend was only wearing a towel.
"I don't know what to do, right now," he told her. "It's driving me crazy, Em! Where could she be?"
"Don't give yourself an ulcer from worrying so much," she told him. "What about the fat man, did he say anything?"
"Even if he cooperated, I don't think he would've," he answered. "If only she'd talk to me again."
"I hate to suggest it, but maybe she's not in the city anymore."
"No, she's still in Manhattan, somewhere. Don't ask me how I know, I just do. I can feel it."
"Well, I'm sure you can do something," said MJ. "You are an Avenger."
He smiled at her, then looked at the plushie, "Speak to me..."
After ten seconds of silence, he was about to get up, but then, "We have to whisper."
Peter's eyes widened, then he sat up, looking at the plushie, "Jodie?"
"Shh, I said 'whisper'," she reminded him. "They can hear."
"Are you alright?" he whispered.
"Yes, but you've gotta hurry," she whispered back urgently. "We're leaving tonight."
"Where are you?" he asked.
"In a boat."
"That doesn't narrow it down," he stated. "Is there anything you see that can help me know exactly where you are? The name of the boat, anything?"
After a few seconds, a projection of a boat window appeared on the flat-screen TV. He took a closer look at it and saw a view of the dock the was at. He recognized it; Dock 13 in Hell's Kitchen.
"I recognize the area," Peter said. "I'll be there soon, Jodie...I promise."
But first, he had to let Jessica know.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Scene Change~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Jessica stood on a rooftop overlooking the dock Spidey had told her about, and there was a fancy yacht, being guarded by one guy with a rifle. There was also a blonde man in a white suit standing on the yacht, looking anxious.

Spidey landed in a crouched position behind the PI, "Miss Jones."

"That was fast," she commented.

He surveyed the dock so they could properly form a plan.

"One guard is easy enough, but that blonde guy is the one I fought at the hotel that I mentioned."

"The guy that was invulnerable?" Jessica guessed

"Yep."

The web-head quietly web-zipped over to the guard and suffocated him until he passed out. Jessica snuck over to him after that.

"Okay, I can sneak in better," he whispered. "Can you wait here?"

Jessica gave him a skeptical look, "How can YOU sneak in better?"

Spidey answered by turning some kind of dial on the emblem on his chest, which made him turn completely invisible!

"...Okey then," Jessica muttered.

"Be back in a minute," he whispered before he jumped onto the yacht. He hid against the wall when the woman exited one of the rooms, where he briefly saw Jodie was inside, but the woman somehow melted the lock by pointing at it. Once he was sure she was gone, he made himself visible and kicked down the door.

"I knew you'd find me!" Jodie said happily before running to him.

"Yeah, I also brought a couple friends to help," Spidey held up her Mew plushie.

"Mew!" Jodie hugged it tightly.

Spidey started to lead her out, when the blonde man appeared.

"Well, look who's back again," he said. "Looks like a certain spider didn't learn his lesson."

Spidey ducked to avoid his punch, then delivered an uppercut to his jaw! He continued to punch him over-and-over until he fell off the yacht, but the woman appeared next.

"Go, get out of here!" Spidey told Jodie.

"Jump, I'll catch you!" Jessica called up to her.

Though fearful, Jodie jumped off the boat and into Jessica's arms! On the boat, the woman snapped her fingers, creating blue sparks of energy which she threw at the web-head! He jumped out of the way, but the small explosion caused by the impact knocked him off balance in the air!

As he hit the ground, the woman jumped off the yacht, "Give her up. She doesn't belong to your kind."

"That's not what the law says, asshole," Jessica retorted harshly.

As the woman was about to blast her, she heard a psychic-shrill sound behind her. She turned to see something impossible; Mewtwo!

(A/N: Jodie is using her powers to make an illusion, but she also makes it seem like the Mewtwo she creates has all of his powers. That's how strong her powers are, and yes; she's clearly a huge Pokémon fan~!)

"What in the world...?!" the woman questioned.

She was about to blast the DNA Pokémon, but he froze her in place with his telekinesis. Jessica then walked over and punched her in the face, knocking her out.

She then turned to Jodie, "Thanks."

Jodie smiled in return, only for the blonde man appear again.

"I won't be as easy to deal with!"

As Jessica got ready to fight and Spidey landed next to her, Jodie made her Mewtwo's eyes glow, then he fired blue lasers at the man's face, which made him scream in pain!

"I CAN'T SEE!" he cried out as he ran around, blindly.

He tripped over some junk, then screamed in frustration.

With that, Spidey, Jessica and Jodie left.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Scene Change~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Peter and MJ were now at The Heights (Bar & Grill).
"So, Ghost Girl ends up saving you and Jones with a Pokémon illusion?" she chuckled. "I love it!"
"Hey, it was a mutual saving," he defended.
"So, how is Jodie, by the way?" MJ asked.
"She's a lot better off, now," said Peter. "Her family's being placed in a much better home. Plus, they're in protective custody and they found someone to help her with her powers. Someone named Charles Xavier."
"You think she's doing okay?" she asked.
"Oh yeah. I've got a feeling she's doing just fine," Peter smiled and looked out the window to the sidewalk outside the restaurant. A projection of Jodie stood at it, smiling and waving at him. She also had a Mew floating around her and a Pikachu on her shoulder. As a last farewell, she made a heart-shape with her hands.
