Lars And The Cool Kids
The day Began at Dead Man's Mouth. Dead Man's Mouth is a small lake surrounded on three sides by small cliffs. There is only one opening leading to the lake, and it is marked by enormous boulders near its entrance. The lake itself is simply a small body of water with rocks strewn across it. And currently, large parts of the rocks and lake were covered in what appeared to be green moss.
The Gems along with Vergil were standing at the top of a cliff, overlooking a moss-covered swamp. Steven is seen hopping on the rocks in the swamp.)
"This doesn't look good at all." Pearl determined.
Vergil felt something was off and looked around. "Wait, where's Steven?"
They all look down and see Steven hopping on the rocks in the swamp. "Whoa! Cool!" Steven stopped on a rock and reached down to touch the moss.
Amethyst, Pearl, and Vergil all gasped when they saw him do that. [No, Steven, wait!/No, Steven! Don't go near that stuff!/Steven, don't touch that stuff!] They each warned him.
Instead of warning him, Garnet simply picked up a nearby boulder. The moss starts crawling towards Steven, but before it can touch him, Garnet throws the boulder at the rock Steven is standing on, catapulting him up in the air.
"WHOA!" Steven yelled before he landed in Pearl's arms. "Steven's here!"
Pearl puts Steven down and puts her hands on her hips. "You have to be careful, Steven!"
"Why?" Steven asked.
Rather than answering him, they all looked down at the lake as a duck was seen attempting to sit on a floating log in the swamp when the moss rises up and engulfs the log. Fortunately, the duck was away to safety and avoid the moss in time.
"That's why." Vergil answered him.
"What is that stuff?" Steven asked in wonder.
"It's the moss that Rose Quartz raised on the hill." Garnet told him.
"My Mom planted this stuff?" Steven asked again with surprise.
Pearl pointed to the tallest hill in the distance. "Rose Quartz used to climb that hill every spring and tend to the moss at the top." She then projects a hologram of Rose at the top of a hill. "But now that Rose is…" She hesitated to finish that sentence. "Gone, the moss is on the move!"
Steven became saddened as he looked at the moss. "It's lost."
"It's not lost. It's gross." Amethyst pointed out.
"And it's clearly dangerous." Vergil added.
"Yes, but Rose loved it anyway." Pearl reminded them. "She saw the beauty in everything, no matter how gross or dangerous." She then smiled and flicked her hair back a bit. "Fortunately, I know just what to do in this situation."
The Crystal Gems get off the cliff and onto ground level. Garnet, Amethyst, Vergil, and Steven sit down on the ground, as they watch what Pearl is going to do.
She then strikes a pose. "Twooooh!" she then dances briefly. "Haaaaaah!" She ended it by having her hands around her Gemstone, and her Gem starts to glow.
Steven whispers to Amethyst and Vergil. "This is why I get up in the morning!"
"What about breakfast?" Vergil whispered back.
"That too." Steven answered still whispering.
A small glowing object appears out of Pearl's Gem, and the others got up and ran other to her as the object fell into Steven's hands, revealing a roll of yellow tape reading "POLICE LINE".
"Is this… Police tape?" Steven asked her.
"Why Police tape?" Vergil asked, somewhat hoping for better.
"Isn't this great?" Pearl asked, thinking it was brilliant. "This way, we don't even have to use magic. Humans will just see this and walk away."
"Uh Pearl, you know not everyone respects Police Authority right?" Vergil awkwardly informed her.
Later, Garnet, perched on a rock, slams her fist into her palm like a baseball mitt.
"Don't hold back!" Garnet urged.
Amethyst stood on ground level and faced her with the role of Police tape. "I never… Do!" She responded as she threw the roll of tape to Garnet.
She caught it and started wrapping it around the rock. Then the rest of the Crystal Gems start wrapping the entrance to the swamp in Police tape together.
"La-la-la la-la~!" Pearl happily sang as she ties the Police tape into a bow shape. "Perfect!" The Crystal Gems gather to inspect the handiwork. Now we can come up with a plan to move the moss back to its hill!" She announced.
"Who wants to get some lunch?" Steven suggested as Vergil and The Gems turned and stare at him silently. "Just me, then?" He asked, still smiling. "…Nice."
Steven then turned to leave as Pearl placed a hand on Vergil's shoulder. "Go with him, Vergil." She instructed him. "Make sure Steven stays safe."
Vergil happily nodded. "Okay, Pearl."
With that, he left to go follow Steven.
After leaving the mountains, Steven and Vergil were walking down the boardwalk and were on their way to Fish Stew Pizza.
As they walked, Steven started singing to himself. "Gettin' me a pi, gettin' me a -zza~ Gettin' me a p-p-p-p-pizza!~ Gettin' me a pi, gettin' me a -zza. / Hmm, mmm, mm, mm~"
Vergil shrugged. "I'll be honest, some of your other songs were pretty creative, but that one was just lazy."
"Ah come on, it's not easy making fresh material all the time." Steven defended. "Like— Hey, is that Lars?" He asked, looking forward.
"What the heck kinda song is that?" Vergil asked, raising a brow.
"No, look!" Steven corrected, pointing forward. "Lars."
As Vergil looked where Steven was pointing, he saw that it was indeed the grumpy teenager who worked at the Big Donut that was nearby. Right now he was leaning his back against the wall outside the Fish Stew Pizza restaurant. And unlike usual he was wearing a lime green shirt with long white sleeves that had a picture of a purple snake on the front of the shirt and in his hands was a red hoodie that held over his shoulder.
"It is Lars?" Vergil realized.
"Lars!" Steven called out as they ran towards him.
Lars groaned as he whispered. "Why now?"
Steven kept running towards Lars with his arm raised. "Got a high five for you from waaaay doowwwwn toooown! Ohhhhhh!"
As Steven reached him, Lars whisper-yells. "No, Steven! No high fives!"
"Mmmmm, okay." Steven decides to high-five his chest.
Lars then smacks it away. "STEVEN!"
Steven laughed a little as Vergil arrived there too and commented. "Well, you said no high fives after all."
"You know what I meant!" Lars whisper-yells some more.
"So… How come you're not at the Big Donut?" Steven decided to ask.
"Yeah, and where's Sadie?" Vergil added.
Lars scoffed. "I don't spend my whole life at work with Sadie." He told them as he walked away from the wall and flips his hoodie over his shoulder again. "I do… Other things.
"Like standing against this wall?" Steven questioned.
"And carrying a hoodie around?" Vergil also asked.
"What does it look like?!" Lars asked them, annoyed.
Steven smiled and answered. "Looks like you're doing a lot of nothing."
"That's the plan, Ste-ven." Lars replied with satisfaction as he flips his hoodie again. "Just playing it cool today, you know?"
"We are so much alike." Steven voiced his opinion as he rested his arm against the wall.
"Excuse me?" Lars asked, not following his logic.
"In what regard?" Vergil asked, equally as lost.
"It's simple, Lars wants to get a fresh pizza right out of the oven, but you don't want to seem too desperate, right?" Steven explained with his own reasoning. "Well, there's no need to be ashamed. Just walk right in and ask. That's what I always do."
After saying his piece, Steven began to walk towards the door, which made Lars suddenly panic.
"Ah, uh Steven, don't go in there right now!" Lars desperately warned him.
"Why? What's wrong with going n?" Vergil asked him with curiosity.
Steven didn't ask, and instead, he looks through the windows. "Oh, hey!"
Inside the restaurant was Kiki Pizza, someone both Steven and Vergil were acquainted with from the times they had been here before. She was one of the daughters of the owner. Kiki has dark eyes and curly, dark brown hair. While working at the restaurant, she wears a white apron, a light cyan shirt, dark gray leggings with lighter gray rolled-up cuffs, and black shoes. She keeps her hair worn back in a beige scarf to protect it.
But the ones who they took notice of were the three in front of her. Three cool kids are seen hanging around inside, while Kiki stands behind them.
One was a girl who looked very identical to Kiki. She wears large gold hoop earrings, a pale cream-colored shirt, a dark brown leather jacket with a beige fur-trimmed collar, lavender shorts, and mint-colored flats.
Another is a young man, with platinum blond hair styled into a point, ice-blue eyes, and a long, angular face. He wears a grayish-blue hoodie over a light gray undershirt, orange phat pants, and bright sea-foam green tennis shoes. He is often shown with a concerned facial expression. His pants can convert to shorts when unzipped.
The third one is a teenager with dark brown eyes, dark brown hair, and light brown-coral skin. He wears a pair of sunglasses, an overly large red button-up shirt with unbuttoned cuffs, a white shirt with a yellow lightning bolt design, dark blue slim-fit jeans, and cyan and blue sneakers with white soles.
"He opened the door, and there was doggy-doo everywhere." The girl told them.
"That's nasty. I don't like nasty stuff." The guy in sunglasses commented.
The platinum blond-haired one just took a bite of a slice of pizza.
"Isn't that Kiki's sister and her friends?" Steven noticed through the window.
Vergil looked too. "Yeah, and the other two. The pale one is Onion's older brother and the one in sunglasses is the Mayor's son."
Lars whispered. "Jenny, Sour Cream, and Buck Dewey."
Steven turned back to face him. "Oh, you know those guys?"
"N-not quite." Lars uncomfortably rubbed the back of his head. "But I'm sure we'll hang at some point."
"Well, why not now?" Vergil suggested.
"Yeah, you should go in and talk to them." Steven insisted.
Lars starts to get flustered. "T-T-That's not how these things work, you guys!" He snapped at them. "The plan is to keep it cool and let them come to me." With that, Lars leans on the wall again.
As he did that, Jenny, Sour Cream, and Buck exited the restaurant.
"Here they come." Steven pointed out.
Upon seeing them, Lars looks away quickly and started sweating profusely. "Aah! both of you, turn around! Act natural!" He instructed them with haste.
Before leaving, Jenny turned to the open door and spoke to Kiki. "Tell Dad I'll be back later." After saying that, she walks off.
"It's okay Lars, they're gone." Vergil informed him.
"But I don't think they saw you." Steven added.
"Steven, you were blocking me with your… Big hair!" Lars accused, not knowing what else to say as he groaned. "Aah!"
"Sorry, I'll go tell them to look over here." Steven told him as he walks towards the cool kids.
Vergil shrugged. "Yeah, let's just get it over with." He decided as he walks to them as well.
Lars clearly didn't like that idea and whisper-yelled. "Steven, no, Vergil, don't go over there!" They ignore him and walk towards them anyways, Lars continues to look away. "Ah, I hate you two!"
Meanwhile, the cool kids were having their own conversations.
"Muffins that are like this big." Buck gestures with his hands.
"Those things are too sweet for me." Jenny commented.
At that point, the boys arrived in front of them, and Steven spoke. "Hi! My name's Steven." He introduced as he raises his hand up for high-fives.
"And I'm Vergil." Vergil introduced himself as well.
The cool kids each happily return Steven's high-five.
Buck high-fives. "Buck Dewey."
Sour Cream high-fives. "They call me Sour Cream."
Jenny high-fives. "I'm Jenny."
Back with Lars. He had a hand over his mouth and was talking to himself. "Aah, they're gonna wreck everything!" He complied as he looked over and saw Steven and Vergil talking to the cool kids in the background. "What are they saying? I can't hear them!" Vergil then started pointing at Lars, and they all looked at him, which made Lars nervous. "Gah! They're looking at me! What did he tell them?!" Steven then started waving at Lars which made him cringe. "Ugh! Why is he dancing?!" Finally, Lars starts sobbing. "No-ho-ho! My life is horrible!"
Steven then walks back over to Lars. "Hey, Lars!"
Lars snaps into a "cool" pose. "Yo."
"They invited us along for a ride." Steven told him.
Lars became shocked by this information. "Huh? W-Wait a minute, they— you—?" After rambling for a bit, Lars calms down. "Steven, you guys got lucky. So don't ruin this with any of your lame schticks."
Steven pretends to shoot with his fingers. "Pew pew! You got it!"
He then laughed as Lars face-palms.
After Steven finished speaking with Lars, the whole group then walks towards Jenny's Car.
The convertible is mozzarella-yellow in color and decorated with pepperoni and mushrooms as an art pattern. It has only been shown with its top cover retracted. The license plate in the front of the car says 'PIZZA', but the plate in the rear is blank.
"Hop on in guys." Jenny said as she opened the car door.
Jenny was in the driver's seat. Sour Cream was in the front seat, Lars and Buck were in the back seats by the windows and Steven hopped in the middle seat.
"Ah yeah, middle seat!" Steven cheered before noticing Vergil wasn't in the car. "Wait, there's no room for Vergil."
"No worries Steven." Vergil assured him.
He then pulled down the collar of his shirt, made his Gem glow, and reached into his Gem, pulling out his skateboard.
Lars just looked shocked while Jeeny, Sour Cream, and Buck each seemed impressed and took it in stride. [Wah/No way/That was cool.]
"How did you—? What did you even—?" Lars started babbling again before he said. "Whatever, you can't keep up with a car on a skateboard."
"I can on this one." Vergil stated, not worried.
"Confident, I respect that." Sour Cream admitted.
At that point, Buck turned to Steven. "Where'd you get that rad shirt, Steven?"
Steven tugged his shirt and confessed. "I have no idea where any of my clothes come from."
Buck nodded. "Yeah man, living free. I like it."
Lars points at his own shirt with a snake design. "Hey, check out my shirt."
"Oh, that snake is nasty." Buck commented.
"Oh." Lars then fakes a laugh. "Yeah, I hate snakes!"
"Oh, what? That's too bad; some snakes are pretty cool." Buck replied with honesty.
Lars just became silent after that. Jenny then starts up the car. Steven then reaches for his seatbelt.
"Sounds like it's time to buckle up!" Steven said happily.
"Quit being lame, Steven." Lars chastised him.
Sour Cream gave Lars a look of disapproval. "Hey man, there's nothing "lame" about seat belt safety."
"Car does not move 'till we're all buckled up." Jenny told all of them.
Steven and Lars put on their seat belts while Sour Cream reaches for the radio. "Yeah, now let's get some spaced-out beats up in here. he tunes the car radio to an electronic station. "Yeah, I could rave to this." Sour Cream slowly sways his arms in front of him.
"Hey, this car is really cool Jenny." Lars attempted a compliment.
"Really?" Vergil asked, not agreeing with that sentiment. "It looks kinda "off" to me.
"It is." Jenny agreed with Vergil. "It's just the delivery car for my Dad's lame shop. Makes me smell like pizza." She then started driving off.
After the car started moving, Vergil was seen skateboarding at the same pace as the car, proving his claim to be true.
"Huh?" Lars looked at him, confused.
Steven nudged Lars on the shoulder. "Pretty cool, right?"
"Woah, where'd you learn how to skate Vergil?" Buck asked.
Vergil shrugged. "I taught myself, took me years of practice."
"Where to, y'all?" Jenny asked as they drove around.
"I don't even know." Buck said nonchalantly.
"Oh, can we stop by the Big Donut?" Steven suggested.
As he said that, the car and Vergil stopped in front of the Big Donut.
"That old place?" Jenny asked.
"Man, that place is a drag." Buck commented.
"But that's where Lars works—" Steven was about to say before he was interrupted.
What interrupted him was Lars' fake coughing loudly. "Quiet, Steven." He told him through the coughs.
Steven, not getting it asked. "You need some water?"
After a bit of driving, the group is now driving through the heart of town. As they drive by, Steven notices the Funland Arcade.
"Funland Arcade is the best! Let's do that!" Steven suggested.
"Cream Man, I beat all the "G's" in there like 3 million times." Sour Cream bragged.
Steven gasps, impressed. "No way!"
"Yeah, me too." Lars stated.
"No way!" Steven repeated.
"I don't buy it." Vergil chimed in, skeptical. "No one could do it 3 million times. They'd have to get bored of it way before then."
Sour Cream looked down and confessed. "Yeah, you're right. I was just exaggerating to sound cool."
After hearing that, Lars felt sheepish.
Steven pats Sour Cream on the shoulder. "I appreciate your honesty."
Hearing that made Sour Cream smile.
The group drives up next to the city park, where they see Mayor Dewey who is holding a rally. The rally had a small stage with a podium and Mayor Dewey standing behind the podium with an American Flag on a pole beside him and his Mayor Dewey re-election van parked nearby. There were also a few citizens and one man with a camera near the stage.
"Hey Buck, isn't that your Dad?" Jenny pointed out.
Mayor Dewey was in the middle of a speech "…Another reason you should re-elect me, I love babies. Will you look at that, a baby!" Mayor Dewey's aid holds a baby towards him. "Gonna kiss it…" He gives the baby a long kiss, and the crowd applauds.
"Hmm, I like his policies on babies." Steven figured.
"Honestly, though, he just looks like a primadonna." Vergil said bluntly.
"Man, he never kisses me like that." Buck admitted.
"That's rough, bro." Lars attempted to be sensitive.
"It's not rough. The lack of daddy kisses in my life made me who I am." Buck explained, unconcerned.
Once again, Lars looked away sheepishly as Vergil said. "I never knew my Dad."
Buck looked at him and said. "Now that is rough."
Jenny starts driving again. "Oh my gosh, guys, we should check out Dead Man's Mouth." She suggested as the car approached to drive the group out of town.
"What's Dead Man's Mouth?" Steven asked.
"Oh, it's this lake where some dude died, or it looks like a mouth?" Buck guessed, not sounding sure. "I forget the specifics."
"Dead Man's Mouth. Here. We. Come!" Jenny proclaimed as she shifted up the car gear, and the car sped off. Vergil speeds up on his board, still keeping up with the car.
"Sounds good to me." Steven proclaimed as well.
It wasn't long until the car stopped somewhere in the mountains where Dead Man's Mouth was. Once they arrived, the group stepped out of the car, and Vergil put away his skateboard.
"We're here." Jenny informed them.
As Steven gets out of the car, he and Vergil look and gasp when they immediately notice the Police tape the Crystal Gems put up earlier and realize That this place isn't safe.
"Oh no, the moss." Steven whispered to Vergil.
Vergil nodded and whispered back. "We've got to make sure they don't touch the water."
While they were talking, Lars said to the others. "Let's check this place out".
Lars walks towards the entrance of the swamp. The others murmur in agreement and accompany him. Steven begins to worry and is relieved when they stop in front of the Police tap. "Oh, pfft, the Police tape." He laughs it off.
The group stares at the Police tape surrounding the entrance.
"Huh, police tape…" Sour Cream said as they all silently stared at it. Sour Cream then rips down the tape bow, and they all walk through. "Awesome."
"I'm above the law." Buck added as he tore down more tape.
Steven gasped as Vergil face-palmed. "I knew this would happen."
"We've gotta go after them." Steven insisted, more worried.
Vergil shook his head. "No way, I'm not going in there. Pearl said not to go there." He reminded him before looking serious. "And I love Pearl." He admitted before he groaned. "But Pearl also said to keep you safe, so I guess I have to go."
Steven nodded. "Great."
They both then ran after Lars and the cool kids.
As they all stood in front of the moss-filled lake, Jenny turned to the rest of them and smirked. "Who wants to go for a swim?"
Steven and Vergil stared in worry at the moss, which was becoming visibly agitated. The others didn't notice that and began to take off their coats, while Sour Cream converts his pants into shorts.
"Pants become shorts." Sour Cream commented.
Lars also doesn't notice anything wrong and quickly takes off his shirt to join the others. He begins to walk toward the swamp.
Steven couldn't hold it in anymore and attempted to stop Lars. "Lars, don't go in there. It's dangerous!" He shouted.
The others heard him but simply smiled at him.
"Steven, you trying to scare us?" Jenny lightheartedly accused.
"Build an atmosphere; I appreciate that." Buck added with a thumbs-up.
Sour Cream just started swaying his fingers. "Oooooh!"
The three of them then ran off towards the lake.
"No, don't!" Vergil tried to warn them.
"I'm not that slow." Buck commented as he jumped in first.
Jenny and Sour Cream quickly followed, and all the cool kids were submerged under the surface. Lars tries to follow suit, but Steven holds him in place by embracing him tightly.
"Hey, what are you doing, man?!" Lars asked, visibly uncomfortable.
Steven looked up at him and started tearing up. "Don't!" He pleaded.
Lars slowly steps forward and pushes Steven along toward the swamp. "Steven, what. Is. Your. Deal?" He struggled to say while marching.
Before he could get to the water, Vergil pushed both of them back and spoke. "It's coming. Brace yourselves."
"For what?" Lars asked, still not getting it.
Suddenly Lars gasped and stopped trying to push Steven off when he noticed the moss started growing around the others; it suddenly engulfed them started with their arms, and then covered their heads before finally dragging them underwater. Lars falls back in fear. "Aah!"
"Oh no!" Steven quickly got away from the lake.
"What's going on?!" Lars questioned in fear.
"It's some kind of magic moss that Steven's Mom planted!" Vergil told him
"Wait, his Mom—?" Lars attempted to ask.
Suddenly before Lars could say anything more, Jenny, Sour Cream, and Buck reemerge on the water's surface, covered in moss and gasping for air. They crawl towards the edge of the swamp and collapse on the ground as the moss covers their whole bodies entirely.
"Everyone!" Vergil shouted as he ran over to them.
"Guys, hang on!" Lars shouted as he and Steven followed.
Lars, Vergil and, Steven started desperately ripping away the moss off of Jenny, Sour Cream, and Buck, but the moss rapidly grew back. Vergil started using his superior speed to try and rip apart the moss faster but the more he tried, the more clear it became that this wouldn't work.
"This isn't going to work!" Vergil shouted, now panicking. "We need to think of something else."
Steven thinks for a moment, and then it hit him as he turned around and saw the hill Pearl was talking about in the background. "Lars, I know what we have to do—"
"This is all your fault!" Lars snapped, cutting him off as he tore up and yelled at Steven. "I knew if something went wrong today, it would be because of you! Now I'm never going to be friends with these guys. All because of your… Weird, Mom!"
Steven's eyes narrowed in shock and rage as he glared, and for the first time ever, he was mad at Lars. While Lars' face softened as if he had just realized what he had said.
Steven then pokes at Lars' chest. "What do YOU know about my Mom?!" Steven snapped back at him before yelling at the top of his lungs. "I DIDN'T EVEN GET TO KNOW MY MOM!" Then Steven started to tear up. "But I DO know she saw beauty in everything! Even in stuff like THIS!" He points at the moss. "And even in jerks like YOU!"
Lars looked away, ashamed, and Steven sighed while Vergil chimed in. "If you two are done, help me load these guys into the car! He snapped at them while carrying one of the bodies.
Steven and Lars drag the other two moss-covered bodies into the car and buckle them in.
"Lars, hurry!" Steven hurried him. This time, Vergil went in the car too and sat between Steven and Lars, it was cramped, but they didn't have time to complain. When they were ready, Steven pointed to the hill in the background. "This moss belongs at the top of that hill."
But it was quickly apparent that the car hadn't started yet.
"Lars, why aren't you driving?"
"Uh, the thing is, I don't know how to drive a stick shift." Lars nervously told them.
"I'll work the stick; you just keep us on the road." Steven decided, turning to Vergil. "Vergil, you can keep an eye on the moss."
Vergil nodded. "Will do."
"Okay, alright, let's do this." Lars decided, starting the engine. "Ignition!"
"Stick power!" Steven declared as shifted the gear, and the car went forward towards the swamp.
Seeing that, Lars panicked. "Steven, no, put it in reverse!"
"Is that the one with "R" on it?" Steven asked but shifted the gear again before waiting for an answer. "Aaaaah!"
As he did that, the car immediately jolts backward and reverses all the way back onto the road. Lars started driving and bumping the car backward before getting on the road, and when they were driving forward again, on their way toward the hill, the moss had already engulfed the back of the car.
"The moss is spreading!" Vergil warned them.
"Jenny's gonna kill MEEEEEE!" Lars screamed. As they kept driving, he asked. "What's gonna happen when we get to the top of that hill?"
"I don't know!" Steven confessed.
"You don't know?!" Lars repeated.
"I know!" Vergil informed them. "When we get there, the moss will disappear!"
"Really? That's great!" Steven, before seeing the moss, was starting to engulf him. "Aah!"
The moss began to spread even further and began to engulf the front of the car, too, including Steven, Vergil, and Lars. Before long, the only parts that were sticking out were their heads and shoulders.
"Aaaah! It's getting everywhere!" Lars shouted. "Woah!" Lars and Steven momentarily lose control of the car as a truck driving on the other side of the road appears. Almost crashing, they manage to simply bump into the large truck, leaving a dent in it, but straighten the car back on the right path.
"We made it!" Steven cheered, relieved.
"We're almost there!" Lars announced as they eventually reached the top of the hill and parked the car near the edge of the cliff at the end. "What do we do now?"
"We got to get up there!" Steven instructed him as they each picked a body.
"After that, just wait for the sun to show up through the clouds!" Vergil told them as they dragged.
The more the three of them dragged the bodies up the hill, the more moss progressively engulfs them as well, slowing them down. When only their heads were sticking out, they lost the ability to step forward.
"I'm… Getting stuck!" Lars noted as his legs were shaking.
"No, don't… Give up." Steven struggled as well.
Vergil fell on one knee. "This should be… Far enough."
At that point, the moss completely engulfed their bodies, leaving their faces, and immobilizing them as they each fell over and hit the ground..
"Guys…" Lars breathed out.
[What?] They both asked.
"…...This sucks!" Lars proclaimed before he was completely engulfed by the moss.
"Laaaaar—!" Steven gets engulfed too.
"Aaahhh—" Vergil also gets engulfed.
All seemed lost as the moss-covered bodies lay still on the hill, and everything became quiet. Just then, the clouds begin to clear, and the sun starts shining in. Pink flowers with what appeared to be Gemstones in their centers begin to blossom all over the moss and float away. The group is freed from the moss as they gasp for air. Steven, Vergil, and Lars watch over the hill's edge as the pink flowers fill the sky, creating a sight like something out of a dream.
Vergil's eyes lit up as he watched. "…Glorious."
"The moss was just trying to bloom." Steven realized.
Lars reached out and grabbed one of the pink flowers, admiring its beauty.
Behind them, the cool kids each slowly regained consciousness and sat in a slight daze.
"Ughh, what happened?" Jenny wondered, lying down.
Sour Cream massaged his head and looked around. "I think I died."
Jenny looked up and pointed forward. "Guys, look!"
Jenny, Sour Cream & Buck all rush to the hill's edge and see everything.
[Woah!] The group watched as the flowers wafted gently in the breeze as the sunset lit up the sky, creating an air-like scenery above coupled with the view that allowed them to see all of Beach City in its entirety, along with the clear blue ocean. It was like a work of air created by a master painter.
"You can see all of Beach City from up here." Sour Cream admired.
"It's beautiful." Buck breathed out.
"I don't think I'll ever forget this sight." Vergil said, still awed.
"Yeah… How did we even get here?" Jenny wondered.
Lars started to tell them. "Well, Steven thought that—"
Steven interrupted him. "Lars drove us here."
Hearing that, Jenny, Sour Cream & Buck all started to murmur. [Oh yeah, Lars!/Super cool/I can totally rave to this."
Jenny & Buck encouraged Sour Cream [Go go, go…] Sour Cream started raving, and they cheered him on. [Sour Cream! Sour Cream!]
Vergil crossed his arms and smiled. "Ah, man, those guys are cool."
As they were doing that, Steven attempts a high five with Lars, but Lars high-fives his chest instead. Steven laughs at that. "Yeah!" He followed up by high-fiving Lars' chest as well.
The star iris started zooming in on Lars' face as Lars started to feel embarrassed and said. "Okay, that's enough."
And that's the chapter. I am glad I did this one, there were a lot of funny scenes that I wanted to write, and I like the cool kids as people and as characters. They really are cool in a way that you can't fake. I also included Vergil's skateboard again to demonstrate how good he is with it and to show off the impression that he uses it as often as possible.
