Prompt:
Whack!
Amy's head fell to the ground with the sound of thunder. The metal under her vibrated as only a single thump pounded in her head before consciousness disappeared.
Later, she awoke to being told that she had suffered a concussion, had three fainting spells, and wasn't able to communicate properly.
They asked her if she understood this and she nodded, before crying all that night.
Stress apparently wasn't the cause of the fainting spells, she was still able to do tasks, but couldn't speak properly. Her embarrassment in this caused her to close herself off and not even try and speak, which didn't help the speech therapist.
Amy was now cooking and simultaneously doing the dishes. She had heard that the gang was coming back to the bunker soon and wanted them to feel at home. They would probably be upset by the Speech Therapist's comments on today's lessons… considering she played the piano and didn't listen to her.
Amy didn't feel sad about her predicament anymore, in fact, she seemed to try and forget about it.
Her hand twitched at the sound of the door opening, and heard her friends coming back from the clean-up duty to restore their world back to the way it once was.
If she could speak, she would suggest making it better than it once was. But who would listen anyway? Her voice was choppy and gaspy. She didn't want to speak anymore. Maybe never again.
She tuned the radio higher and listened to forecast, before continuing her work and not acknowledging them coming in.
"So he up and left? Just like that?" Her hearing wasn't perfect, but after a few moments, she understood that Tails was speaking about the Rookie.
"Yeah. I'll miss him." Sonic had his hands behind his head, looking up as if remembering the worst of times being also the greatest of times, before turning to his gaze to Amy.
She was shocked out of trying to listen, having looked over her shoulder to get a better 'ear' for it, before moving her mouth in surprise and looking back at the dishes.
The food was already mostly done, and she had set the table. She was most embarrassed when Sonic tried to speak to her… encourage her to do what she knew she was supposed to. If she got better, he once said, he could carry a full conversation with her again.
However…
She liked that he spoke more than she did, although she wished she could intervene at times. She felt his kindness at being the same Sonic she loved was overwhelmingly sweet and didn't want to ruin it by getting better too quickly.
Though, she knew everyone wanted her too.
"Speaking of leaving us in the dark…" Tails squinted his eyes to Amy, a slight reprimand to what she knew the Therapist must have told them coming in. "Someone's been rather sassy."
She smiled, looking off to the side.
Is that what he calls it?
"Tails…" Sonic lightly put a hand on his shoulder, ducking his head down as if to tell Tails to not be too harsh on her.
Tails looked at him and sighed. "She's not making it easy…" He walked over to the food, as Sonic began to make his way to her.
She tensed up, wondering if he was going to be the first to scold her.
She felt her heart lightly take flight when he leaned over the sink and smiled to her, showing he wasn't going to say anything about it.
"How are you?"
She nodded.
"…Is the food all set for us, then?" he looked behind him, and she nodded again, giggling without breath, without sound.
He looked back to her, "What did you do today?"
The pantomiming was not easily interpreted, and she wondered how much Sonic even understood.
Though, he politely watched and acted surprised at each gesture, happily going along with her game of charades.
"You shouldn't encourage her." Knuckles spoke through a mouthful of food. He chewed, before opening one eye to scold Sonic. "She needs to learn to do what she's supposed too."
"Yeah? And how has that worked so far." Sonic challenged him right back, a witty grin before looking back to Amy. "Go on. I want to know what happens when the frog-thingy jumps over the mushroom-thingy." He wiggled his finger to her two animated hands, but that was when she realized he had no idea what she was talking about.
She flopped her arms down and sighed, realizing he was just being charming and kind to her and went back to dish work.
He saw her figuratively throw in the towel and leaned more against the sink, an elbow holding the side of his head up. "You know… I wonder what goes on in that head of yours."
She momentarily dropped a dish, and he smiled while she tried to compose herself from the odd but cute question and continue to scrub.
He was trying to get her to want to answer him.
He smirked at his tactic working, and continued, lowering his head to his arms and folding them over the other while he hunched and looked up to her face working.
"Something tells me I got you all wrong."
He really did. Cleaning and playing piano had nothing to do with frogs or mushrooms.
"But I bet when you say what's on your mind… I'll listen to every word."
She let the plates fall and clank together, clamping her hands to the sink's rim and looking away.
"You're only making her upset." Tails finally stated, eating some more but looking concerned about Amy's emotional state.
"She's just being stubborn, but that's fine." Sonic leaned up, still staring at her…
His eyes, those brilliantly green eyes, kept encouraging her… and she kept feeling the sorrow build at not wanting to sound so weird and off in front of him.
"Sonic, look at her, you're making her-"
"She'll talk to me. I know she will." Sonic gave a quick glance to Knuckles, as if to trust him, and looked back at her.
His presence was right next to her, usually, that comforted her, but not this time.
She was glad he was paying her attention but upset he was pushing so hard this time. Usually, he would continue with the façade of understanding her and that would make her feel better.
But now he was truly trying to get her to practice speaking again.
When he saw her not yield, he pouted and lowered himself down back to his elbow against the sink again.
"You're making me impatient, Amy." He said like a hopeless puppy. He was really trying to lure her out of her shell.
She smiled at him, faking something he didn't understand and splashed water on his face before wiping her hands and coming around the table.
The others laughed as he remained upset and still, before shifting his unamused eyes to her and seeing her pull his seat out. She politely then gestured to his plate and walked on.
"So… you want me to eat?" he smiled, "Tell me and I will."
She froze at the door.
The others immediately stopped their laughter.
Sonic put his hands on his hips and stepped away from the table.
"And say 'please'." He bent himself forward and smirked up to her.
She clenched her fist, knowing he was just as stubborn, and wouldn't take no for an answer.
He had been running around and hadn't seen any of them in weeks. No question he was hungry for her excellent cooking and generous portions.
She sighed, without sound.
She sucked in, with little sound.
She turned around and opened her mouth.
"Do." She gestured to the seat, and his eyes darted to it momentarily before looking back at her, still not moving.
"…Pah-lease." She whispered.
He cocked his head as if he couldn't hear her.
She looked away, growing frustrated, before screaming at the top of her lungs.
"PAHHHHHHHH-LEEEEASSEEEE!"
"Yes, ma'am!" he saluted and sat down, scarfing his food.
She sighed, but Tails and Knuckles looked overjoyed.
"That sounded like a 'Please'!" he cheered, and Tails nodded.
"I actually heard that pretty well this time!"
Amy turned around, gripping her voice suddenly.
She did this for herself, "Please?"
She almost started tearing up.
"Please… please speak… speak normally…"
The three suddenly turned around, and she heard chairs scooting out.
"Please… please give me my voice back… my hearing… my life…"
She cried into her hands before she felt arms around her, and gentle squeezes of security and comfort all around her.
"Sure thing, Amy." Sonic spoke out. "Sure thing."
Then, she fainted.
The next morning, or was it longer since then? Amy awoke and did everything the speech therapist told her to do.
The next time Sonic came, she would start to speak in broken sentences, and she was determined to make them easy to understand.
True to his word, Sonic sat and laughed and heard every word she said. And he continued too, even after she fully recovered from all her brain-bruising.

It was dark, and although Amy was improving, Sonic still could feel some hesitating resistance from her.
They sat on a couch, almost opposite ends since Sonic was happily angling his back to the corner of the couch while Amy sat only a little ways away, towards the middle.
He had his leg lifted up and the other one sprawled until dangling off the edge of the couch.
He was fiddling with a handheld device, before looking up and remembering that the others had gone to bed by now.
He told himself he wouldn't leave until he knew Amy had decided to go to sleep, but she was silent as ever with her head straight down and her hands on her knees.
So, this was it?
He put the device down a little roughly and folded his arms, staring straight at her, ready to get to the bottom of this. "Aren't you sleepy?" he sighed out, realizing there must be more than that on her mind.
She jolted at him finally attempting to speak to her, and smiled nervously to him.
He took both hands and frustratedly shook them through his top quill, bending his head down to do so before sitting properly on the couch.
"You speak just fine now. So why are you still so silent?" He had had wonderful conversations with her in the past week. She improved almost instantly, but now she was back to the silent treatement again.
"Are you embarrassed?" he raised an eyebrow, ducking hsi head towards her.
She shook her head, smiling.
"…Then I'm lost." Sonic just gave up with hoping for her to speak and rubbed the side of his muzzle. "…Amy, I can't tell if you want to speak or don't."
She lovingly tilted her head and scanned his expression in tender adoration.
He felt a little odd by her act and shifted his eyes to her and away several times. "W-what… what are you staring at? You're creeping me out…" He didn't want to sound like that, but as he looked away in nervous shyness, she looked afraid from her actions and turned her eyes.
"…Amy, what makes you so silent now? It's not your voice. And I'll tell ya, I like your voice." he tried the charming approach, and she turned around to nod excitedly, before lightly lifting her hand up to him, before meekly pulling back and looking away.
"Huh?" He was getting nervous from not understanding her, before he looked to her hand. "What are you saying..?"
She took that as an 'okay' and gently put her hand to his chest.
A electrical surge shook Sonic from his chest up his head, and he immediately put both hands to Amy's shoulders and tried to push her lightly away. "O-okay, Amy… be reasonable here…"
She giggled, a beautiful ring now that her voice teturned to her, and then lighlty crawled her hand up to his throat.
She closed her eyes and he looked down.
"…My voice." he suddenly, hesitating with a quiver of reflex to get away, held his hand over her own. "You… We don't talk very much to each other… do we?" he looked up as if a bit guilty.
She nodded, smiling sheepishly as if not wanting to hurt his feelings.
"You think… you have to not talk so much for me to speak… don't you?"
She lowered her hand. "It's how… Ehem." she cleared her throat to sound better, "I can hear your heart… without interupting it."
Some form of natural energy spiked in Sonic. A joy he wasn't too sure why came over him. He got up with a spring, rolling to his back and flipping himself up before rushing to the piano.
"Sonic?" she felt a little dizzy, thinking a fainting spell was coming on before Sonic started to play a little.
She didn't know why he was doing this and came over to him, and he was excited to see she was curious enough to do so.
Though she stumbled and wobbled a little, clutching her head, showing signs she was going to passout, he took her hands and helped her play the melody he was creating.
"Is this..?" her eyes started to dim.
"Yeah." he happily moved her in front of him, steadying her as he gripped her elbow, knwoing she was going to collaspe soon.
"This is me speaking to your heart."
She smiled. A fun tune. That was Sonic attempting to stay quiet for a minute.
She found that funny, before he swooped her up as she began to fall.
The two weren't so quiet with each other after that, but there were moments when they would look into each other's eyes, and just know what the other's heart was thinking.
