Sonic wasn't used to this, a magician had stolen Eggman's camera that turned his friends into cards, and is using it to challenge Sonic to a game of sorts.
In order to save his friends, he has to play them! In a life and death card game… who will win?
"You already have played your three friends, Sonic… how do you suppose you'll win against my ultimate comeback? Whahahah!" The magician had a weird laugh, as he drew his next card, that looked like Shadow.
"Ah! That's-!" Sonic recognized it right away, as he grew concerned, seeing the level the card had and how his friends didn't stand a chance if he ordered Shadow's card to attack one of them. 'I have to protect my friends! I can't lose them! If any of them are destroyed, then they are destroyed with it!'
"Heheheh, feeling the heat now, are we? Whahaha!" The magician kept his face covered, but his big white gloves showed traces of scratches and the skin color underneath them. He pointed to Sonic across the table, having trapped Sonic in a 'Card Realm' where they were playing. "Face it! You're picking up all the wrong cards! Believing in your friends? PFFFTTTT, they'll die trying to help you! hahaah!" he clutched his stomach, as he kicked his elf shoes up in the air, having a purple cloak on as well. "Face it! You're through!"
"…Heh." Sonic smirked, picking up a card and seeing it, making his once worried face light up with hope. "I do believe in my friends, Magician! And I know they believe in me too!" he dramatically swished his arm out, as the Magician looked a bit concerned.
"Wait… what card did you just draw…"
"My move right?"
"Grrrr, not yet! I play Shadow in the arena! hahahah!" he kicked his feet in the air, as they drew from the same deck.
Below them, was a table that lit up on the spot he placed Shadow's card down. The table turned into a looking-glass that showed Shadow appear on the battlefield known as the 'arena' and was struggling to move his body, but couldn't, due to only being controlled by whoever held the card in his Hand.
"Now is it my turn?" Sonic crossed his legs, tapping his fingers in impatience.
"Grr… why are you so smug?!" The magician slammed his hands down, his small body flying a bit up in the air, and hovering there magically. "I'm wining! Shadow's the highest level on the field! One hit, and you're friends are history!" he swished his hand out, as Sonic continued to tap his fingers, his head down, eyes closed, looking cool and collected as he waited for the Magician to end his turn. The Magician twitched his mouth, which you could see under the cloak, and a sweat drop of nervousness on his cheek. "Err… you're bluffing!" he shouted out, "My turn ends!"
"Finally." Sonic got up, and slammed a card down. "First, I'll put Tails in the second lines, and move Knuckles to first position!"
"Hmm? Willing to sacrifice I see? Hahahah!" The Magician mocked.
"Not quite, you see… I happened to draw the most important thing to Knuckles…" Sonic turned his card he just drew over, as the Magician looked afraid.
"W…what is that..?"
Knuckles's legs were forced to move to the front lines, as Tails wobbled his arms at having his legs automatically move him back to where Knuckles once held his ground. "W-what's going on?" Tails exclaimed.
"I-I don't know!" Knuckles admitted, as Amy watched the scene unfold.
"We have to trust Sonic!" she shouted out, holding her hammer as she was in attack mode, and looked up to see the sky made of glass, and Sonic and the Magician as giants over them. "…Sonic… I hope you know what you're doing…" she looked worriedly back at Shadow, seeing him twitch and strain to break free of whatever was binding him to that spot on the ground.
"What is this..!?" Shadow furiously cried out, "Why can't I move…?" the last question was more just him thinking out loud, as the team began to explain.
Sonic saw the cards, if he moved to look under them, he could see his friends under the table. "…Guys, just hold on. I'm coming." he then looked determined and serious to Magician. "I activate The Master Emerald, which gives Knuckles an added motive and drive to stay alive! Which increases his attack and defense!"
Knuckles looked back to see the Master Emerald behind him, and his face lit up with confusion. "W-…what is that doing here?"
"Knuckles, you're the guardian right? Then start guarding!" Amy shouted, as Knuckles felt a green energy around him, and his level increased.
"W-woah… Grr, so that's how it is, eh? Well then,-!" he stomped his foot down, and held his fist high towards the enemy field, which also held Eggman and Rouge, along with some pawn characters that were just Eggman's robots. "I won't lose!"
"With that, I'll also place another card down." Sonic flipped a card over, "I'll play the Green Chaos Emerald! And-"
"Hold it! I activate Rouge's sneak ability! HAHHAHAH!" Magician cut him off, throwing his arm out as Rouge felt her body twitching.
"W…what's going on..?" She was terrified, as her wings forced her off the ground. "I-I can't stop myself!"
"Rouge!" Shadow looked behind him, as Knuckles flinched back.
"Get a hold of yourself, Rouge!" he cried out.
"It's time to steal that precious Chaos Emerald! Go, my thieving bat, hahahah!" he pointed to the emerald, as Rouge was forced across the Arena and cried out in fright at bursting through the table, her body barely the size of a figurine, as she swipped Sonic's emerald card and when she headed back down, the card turned into the Chaos Emerald. "Hehe, now, be a good girl and equip that to Shadow. who will then use his Ability, … Chaos Control!"
"No!" Sonic got up, his plan falling apart as his eyes shook in horror.
"Oh, yes!" The magician laughed another cruel cry out, as Rouge tossed the Emerald to Shadow.
"Shadow, no!"
"I..I can't control myself!" he tried to not activate it, but the words wouldn't be contained. "C-…Chaos… control!"
"Steal the girl!" the Magician stated, as Amy was grabbed and teleported back to the Magician's side of the field.
"Ah! Amy!" Sonic reached down on the table, seeing the act be performed as Amy's card was flung across the table and landed on top of Shadow's card.
Shadow held Amy like a prisoner in front of him. "For…forgive me…"
"It's not your fault but… ah!" She felt Shadow restrain her from moving.
"Amy…"
"HAHAHAHAH! Where's that confidence NOW, Sonic? Hero of worlds and galaxies? PFFTTT! hahaha! Try and hurt me now! You're friend's now a human shield to my most powerful being on the field. If you attack me.. you'll hit her~" he gestured his hand out before placing it smugly under his chin, grinning like he had already won.
Sonic clenched his hands together into tight fists, looking down before Tails spoke up.
"Soooooonnniccc!"
His small voice rang through the broken shard of glass on the table as Sonic looked up slightly to see him. "Tails…"
"Don't give up! You still have a way to win!" Tails, seeing Sonic's hand as he had it down on the glass, could see a way for him to still win. "Trust me, Sonic!" he stated, and nodded. "I may be the lowest level in the deck.. but you know I have my own type of power within me… let me fight, Sonic! Give me my power!" he encouraged.
"You're power…" Sonic brought his hand back up to his face, looking at his cards again.. His eyes scanned quickly before seeing what Tails meant. "Of course!"
"Hmph, is your turn done yet?" The magician kicked his legs up on the table, relaxing. He up his hands behind his head before taking one and yawning into it.
"Heh, I'll play the X-Tornado down! And equip it to Tails!"
"The X-what?" The Magician didn't look very amused, not caring about the play.
"Then I'll activate Knuckles's ability, treasure hunter! This allows me to take any treasures on your side of the field, and I choose The Green Chaos Emerald!"
This made the Magician jolt, as he kicked his legs off and almost fell from his chair into the darkness behind him, and slammed his hands down on the table, "Wh-ha-ha-ha-WHAT!?"
Knuckles dug down in the ground, coming up over Shadow and knocking him down from beneath, and grabbing the chaos emerald. Shadow received no damage, so Amy was safe, but still was grabbed again by Shadow and held in place. "I sure hope Sonic knows what he's doing…" Shadow muttered, as Amy looked up to Sonic, showing the hope in her eyes.
"He will." she stated, smiling. "He's already celebrating."
"Hmm?" Shadow looked back to her, and then up to Sonic.
Sonic was grinning, itching to make the next move as Knuckles came back up on the front lines of his side, holding the emerald up proudly to Sonic.
"Nice going, Knuckles. Now, I'll equip the Chaos Emerald to Tails's X-Tornado, and with that, I'll increase his level!"
Tails's level skyrocketed, as Tails happily jumped into the cockpit of his X-Tornado. "Yeah!"
"I'll then activate Tails's ability!"
"N-nooo!" the magician started to hold his hand up, moving shakily back from the table, "T-this is impossible! Y-you still can't win! I have too many health points!"
"Tails can hit multiple targets, and I target Eggman's robot army!"
Before, Eggman's ability was to build himself multiple robots, which meant that the Magician could bring up every robot card in the deck they were using, but now, if Sonic succeeded in destroying them all, which were all pretty low leveled, he could make the Magician's health points go to 0 without hurting or knocking out any of his friends!
"NOOO!" The Magician shook his head around, gripping it with his arms, "THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING! I.. I WAS WINNING!"
"Go Tails! Time to prove yourself!"
"Alright!" Tails flew to the other grounds and right past the front lines of defense, and targeted all the robots, destroying them all with his prized plane. "Sayonara!"
The Maigican was defeated and the realm flashed white, as the gang was back where they started, but this time, everyone wasn't a card anymore.
"Sooooniccc!" Amy rushed to Sonic, as he stumbled back a bit.
"W-woah!"
"You saved us!" she embraced him, crying out her relief. "Ohhh! I just knew you would!"
"A-Amy…" he smiled nervously, and just let her hug him, but tried to gently keep her at a distance from his face.
"You did it, Sonic!" Tails and the others came up to him as The Magician started throwing a tantrum.
"NONONONO! I should of won! Well then, I'll just have to get a rematch!" he held the camera up, as the gang gasped, before Eggman took out his ray-gun.
"I don't think so, you little pest!" he shot the camera and broke it, as the Magician freaked out.
"Ah-ah-ah! Y-you'll all be sorry! I won't let you get away with this, SOOONNICCC!" he spiraled into the other realm and seemed to be lost forever.
"Heh, if he knows what's best for himself, then he better STAY in that portal." Knuckles's pounded his fist together, his eyes glaring and his brow twitching to just punch his little annoying face out!
"At least we're all safe." Tails admitted.
"Thanks to you, buddy." Sonic patted his back, and moved around to the front of him, walking backwards. "Without you keeping me going, I would of broken down for sure!"
"S..Sonic." Tails's eyes lit up with the praise, and nodded. "I knew you would see what I meant. I'm glad you won."
"Heh, me too, buddy.. me too."
