Ch. 11: Family Matters

Over the next couple of weeks, neither Adrien nor Marinette brought up the kiss, but that didn't mean they weren't thinking about it.

"I can't believe I did that," Marinette thought, "I can't believe he did that. What does this mean? Why hasn't he brought it up? Why haven't I? I need some advice. What about Matou Noir? No, that's ridiculous. I barely know him. Maybe I should just ask Alya and Nino."

"Why did I do that?" Adrien thought, "You know why. Because you wanted to. So then why haven't we talked about it? What are you, a coward? You know Marinette tends to overthink things, so you ought to break the ice. I need to ask for advice. Father and Nathalie are out of the question. Nino and Alya wouldn't work either, because I know she'll probably talk to them. How about Ladybird? No, that's weird. I might flirt with her, but she's more like a co-worker. I've got it!"

That weekend, Adrien called up Chloé. Chloé was at the hotel, naturally. She was scrolling through her phone, looking up things she'd want to buy, but also occasionally perusing the news. It wasn't anything new: another performance by the rock star Jagged Stone, another fight at that nightclub, another donation to the various art museums by Cyrille Bleuchamp, the occasional kidnapping, ambassador Dr. Kananga appealing to the UN again about some drug smuggling, the upcoming fashion show, and so forth and so on. Then her phone rang.

"What a pleasant surprise, Adrikins."

"Chloé, I need to talk to you."

"You already are."

"I mean in person. I'll come get you."

"If it's that important, then fine. See you soon," she hung up, "Zoé, Sabrina, hold down the fort until I return. Adrien needs me for some reason."

She went to grab a few things and check her hair and makeup.

"He must be desperate if he's asking you for help," Zoé said.

"He certainly sounded like... Hey, shut up!"

Zoé laughed as Chloé she headed down to the lobby and waited for a text.

Adrikins: I'm here

She hopped into the car and stretched.

"Wait, where are we going? This isn't the way to your house."

"No, I needed advice from you and your opposite."

"I have an opposite?"

That's when they pulled up to a familiar houseboat. Luka was on the deck, of course, tuning his various stringed instruments.

"Thanks for seeing me, Luka."

"Any time, Adrien."

"Whoa, wait a minute!" Chloé said, "You think this teal-colored twerp is my opposite?"

"Actually, I think it's more turquoise," Luka said, "But yeah, I'd say I'm as opposite from you as it gets...at least on a certain level."

"Whatever. So what is this about, mon frère?"

"A few weekends ago, Marinette and I decided to make dinner for Nino and Alya. Needless to say, it didn't go quite as planned."

"It never does," Chloé remarked.

"Like they say," Luka said, "The only thing predictable about life, is its unpredictability."

"Right, well, so Marinette starts to panic..."

"Of course," his advisors said.

"...and I tried to calm her down with a hug."

"Sounds reasonable," Luka said, plucking on a few guitar strings.

"Before I knew it, she kissed me."

Luka stopped the strumming sounds, "She did what?"

"I never knew she had it in her," Chloé said.

"I thought you'd be more shocked, Chlo."

"Adrikins, I don't feel that way about you. It's true me and the baker girl haven't always got along, but I know she's a good person. So if she wants to kiss you, and you're not against it, that's her prerogative."

"So then what happened?" Luka asked.

"I kissed her back."

Chloé and Luka looked at each other, "And...?"

"And then we just kinda went on like nothing happened. We haven't talked about it since."

Chloé facepalmed, while Luka had a blank look on his face.

"Are you two seriously going to repeat the mistakes your dorky friends made? At least they were in the middle of an Akuma attack, and on top of that, they already had prior feelings for each other."

"I can't believe I'm saying this," Luka added, "But she's right."

Chloé gave a smug smile, "I'm glad you figured that out, Musician King."

"I don't believe it," Adrien said, "I asked for you two because you're opposites, and yet you both agree?"

"It's not exactly a difficult problem," Luka replied, "If you like Marinette, then ask her out. If you're not sure how she feels, there's no better way to find out."

"There, you see?" Chloé said, "A simple job for simple people."

"What about father?"

"What about him?!" Chloé snapped, "It's none of his freakin' business!"

The boys stared at her.

She composed herself, "Sorry, but your father is a control freak. If he had his way, you wouldn't even be in school right now. You wouldn't even be talking to us. You wouldn't even have a chance at being happy! So forget about Gabriel, talk to Marinette, and find a good time to set up a date. Easy, peasy, guaranteezy."

Luka chuckled, "Yeah, what she said."

Adrien nodded, "You know what? You're right. Why should I worry? Although, if anything does happen, I should probably keep it a secret from father until the right moment."

"That's fair," Chloé said, "Now back to the baker girl. How do you feel about her?"

"I've always found her to be very nice."

"That can't be the only reason you like her."

"Of course not. She's also very pretty."

"I agree," Luka said.

Chloé scoffed, "No accounting for taste."

"I like how creative and smart she is, too."

"Well, there have been weaker reasons. Anyway, like the maestro here said, just talk to her."

"The last thing you want in your life is regret," Luka added.

"Okay, I'll do it. Just one more thing though. What about secrets?"

"Secrets? What possible secrets could you have?" Chloé asked.

"Oh, well...I meant hypothetically."

"If she's truly special to you," Luka answered, "Then you'll both tell each other your secrets when the time is right."

"Yeah, I guess you're right. Come on, Chlo, I'll take you back to the hotel."

"In a minute. Just start the car."

Adrien got in the car, but Chloé stayed behind.

"How did you get so smart, Thin Man?"

Luka smiled, "Practice. What about you?"

"Same. I'm sure you know about my parents. To say they don't have the best relationship would be an understatement."

"My parents aren't exactly perfect either, but they try to tolerate each other for our sakes. We rarely ever see dad. He travels a lot for work."

"Mother avoids us at any cost. I hope some day that dad cuts her out completely. Anyway, just because my parents have a poor relationship, that doesn't mean I'm soured on the prospect. Maybe some day I'll find someone, but for now, I'm glad I have Zoé."

"Jules and I are twins, so we have a special bond. It's cool how you and Zoé have just as close a connection despite only being half-sisters."

"Well, sometimes it's not just love that brings people together," she gave a big smile, "Sometimes it's just hating the same person. See you around, Guitar Hero."

"Until we meet again, Mlle. Blond."

On the other side of the city, Marinette was talking to Alya and Nino. Their advice was short and sweet.

"Just talk to him!" they both said.

So that Monday, once there was a free period...

"Marinette."

"Adrien."

"About what happened that day. I -"

"I don't want you to think I did that because I was panicked or desperate. I...I do have feelings for you."

"Really?"

"Yes, but I mean...I wasn't sure how you felt, and I know you have a busy schedule, and I didn't want you to get the idea that I'm only interested in you because of who you are, and -"

"Breathe, Mari."

She took a deep breath, "I'm sorry."

"I know you're not a shallow person. Yes, my schedule can get busy, but I do like you. I'd very much like to go out on a date with you sometime."

"Really?"

"Really really. The problem is, considering our age, and my obligations, I don't know if I'll be able to give you the attention you deserve."

"Oh, yeah...I understand."

He took her hand, "I know it's a lot to ask, but would you...wait for me?"

"You mean, even if it takes a year, you'd still want to take me out on a date? I mean, you must see a lot of pretty girls. I've seen you pose with a few."

"Some of them are nice, others are stuck up, but I've said it before and I'll say it again, you're special, Mari," he then kissed her hand.

She was blushing, "Well, I guess I can't argue with that. Yes, Adrien, I will wait for you."

"Wasn't that a song?"

"If you start singing, I swear I'm going to hit you," Chloé said.

"Chlo? Where are you?"

"I'm out in the hall with everyone else."

"Everyone else?" Marinette said, "What does that mean?"

"As in every other one of your friends who's interested in the outcome of this sordid affair."

The sounds of a lot of shuffling shoes erupted. Once it stopped, Chloé walked into the room with Zoé, Alya, Nino, Sabrina, and Luka.

"This is everyone?"

"No, there were more people," Nino explained, "But they all ran for it."

"We're all glad you came to an agreement," Luka said.

"Now that that's settled," Alya said, "Do you guys think you could mark your calendar and help me out? I have to babysit the twins."

Chloé's eye went wide, "Gotta go."

As she left the room, she grabbed Sabrina, who grabbed Zoé, who grabbed Luka.

"I didn't mean you anyway!" Alya called after them, "See, my parents are having a night out, and they've been planning this for a while now. It's not until June, but I figured I should ask now. Nora has a match that weekend, so it's just me and Nino against the twins and his little brother."

"Yeah, my parents will be out, too," Nino said, "They deserve it."

"Knowing this far ahead of time, I'm sure I can work something out with Nathalie," Adrien said.

"Of course I'll be there, Als," Marinette said, "This way we outnumber them."

The rest of the school year went by as normal. With all the preparations required for the upcoming fashion show, Gabriel and Nathalie were far too busy. Nino and Alya spent more time together, which meant that Marinette and Adrien either spent time with each other or with their other friends. One weekend, Marinette joined Adrien at Le Grand Paris and actually had fun spending time with Chloé. She shared her sketches, while Chloé gave her critiques. Zoé was a bit more light-hearted, sharing her love of movies, introducing Marinette to films she'd yet to see.

"Here's two of my favorites because they involve France - Casablanca and To Have and Have Not."

She also spoke of her time in New York. Another weekend, Adrien spent the day learning all about the goings on at the bakery. He was in awe of the various sweets and treats that were created.

"This is one of the best days of my life."

With some coaching from Tom and Sabine, he even made his own macarons. He was so happy he hugged both of them.

"Thank you both so much for everything. I've always admired your work, but to see it in action...it's far more a work of art than anything my father ever created."

After he left, Tom and Sabine relaxed watching TV with Marinette.

"He's such a nice young man," Sabine said.

"Not too bad a baker himself," Tom said.

"You know, Marinette," Sabine continued, "He may not have said anything, but I noticed the way he looked at you now and then. Is there something going on between you?"

"What?" Tom exclaimed, "You two are dating and you didn't tell us?"

"Calm down, Papa. I would never date anyone without telling you first. I have nothing to hide. I wish I could say the same when it came to Adrien and Gabriel."

"That man's always been so distant," Sabine remarked, "Even when his wife was still with us."

"So there's nothing going on?" Tom asked.

"No...not yet anyway. We agreed that, considering the circumstances, we're too young and too busy to date right now, but we will when the time is right."

"I think that's a fair statement to make," Sabine said, "Adrien has a reputation that Gabriel's forced upon him. Once he's older, he should, in theory, have more freedom, and thus be able to devote more time to the things he truly cares about."

"Are you really okay with that, Marinette?" Tom asked.

She smiled, "Yes, Papa. I really like Adrien. I know that even if we did start dating, we'd probably have to keep it a secret. I know he cares about me though. There's no reason to rush."

"If that's what you think is right, dear," Sabine said, "We respect your decision."

At last it was summer, and the first weekend of vacation brought the night the quartet of friends agreed to help Alya. They managed to distract the kids with a few movies, although Ell and Etta would often jump around with these goofy-looking beanies on their heads. Nino and Alya mostly watched to movies with their siblings, while Marinette taught Adrien how to play a card game.

"Catche Eve L2 attacks your Marshmacaron," Adrien said.

"When it's destroyed, I can special summon two more Marshmacaron from my deck."

"Lock Cat attacks one of your Marshmacaron, and then, Cat Girl Magician attacks you directly! I end my turn."

"Not bad, but not good enough. I tribute my last Marshmacaron and my Skull-Mark Ladybug to summon Guardian Angel Jeanne. I equip her with Power of the Guardians. She attacks your Cat Girl Magician!"

"Ah, man! You're gonna win again. I may as well give up."

Marinette gave a dramatic gasp, "Haven't you watched any animé? You never give up!"

"She's right you know, mec," Nino said.

"Okay, girls," Alya said, "Time for bed."

"Already?!" they wailed.

"Mom and dad said they'd take you to that amusement park at the end of the month. If you don't behave, they might change their mind."

"Okay, Alya," Ella said.

"But why does Noël get to stay up?" Etta asked.

"Because he's a year older. He won't even be up that much longer either. Now come on, or I'll tell Nora on you."

They sulked, "Okay."

"Bonne nuit."

She sat back down on the couch next to Nino.

"Where'd they get those funny hats?" Nino asked.

"From the amusement park I mentioned. They're already excited to go back."

"Can't say I blame them," Adrien said, "That does sound fun."

"Don't forget to try one of the cookies I brought, Adrien."

"Did you make them yourself, Mari?"

"Not this time. It was mom and dad."

Adrien looked to see an empty tray where the cookies should've been.

"They're all gone already?"

Alya had a contemplative look on her face. She stood up and looked around. That's when she noticed the refrigerator door was open. Before she could walk towards it, the fridge door closed. She instead stood in front of the door to the twins' room. Sure enough, they were trying to crawl back inside without being seen.

"What do you think you're doing?" she asked the girls.

"It wasn't us," Etta said.

"Yeah, it was the Sapotis," Ella said.

"I'll give you one more chance. Now get to bed."

The girls scampered into their room.

"What did they say?" Marinette asked, "Sapotis?"

"Sapotis, or Ti-Sapotis, are trouble-making monsters from Creole legend, kinda like gremlins."

"Interesting. Okay, Adrien, let's try it again. This time, though, we'll switch decks. I think I can make some improvements to yours."

"If you're sure, Mari."

"Let's grab some more snacks, Nino."

"Sure thing, babe."

They went over to the fridge.

"Hey, how about some fruit?"

"Anything works for me," Nino replied.

Alya cut up some assorted fruit and placed it in a bowl. After letting Adrien and Marinette grab a few pieces, she placed the bowl on the table.

"You know what? I forgot something. Help me out, Nino."

"Sure, Als."

They walked into another room.

"They're probably smooching," Marinette said, rolling her eyes.

"More than likely," Adrien agreed.

Sure enough, they were kissing each other.

Nino whispered into Alya's ear, "I love it when you're sneaky."

"And I love when you get all affectionate."

Noël was still sitting on the couch, and he was starting to feel drowsy, but a sudden movement got his attention. The picture on the TV changed. He looked around for the remote, and when he looked at the TV again, the bowl of fruit was now gone.

"Hey!"

Hearing his brother immediately got Nino's attention. He headed back to the couch.

"What's up, little bro?"

"The fruit and the remote are gone."

Nino heard something like a growl emanating from Alya. Her eyes narrowed as she started looking around the room.

"Obviously not under the table, but the fruit bowl is there. Not enough room behind the sofa. So they must be..."

She removed one of the seat cushions of the couch. The twins were indeed squeezed under it.

"Ella, Etta," Alya said calmly, "Please come on out."

They crawled out and handed her the remote.

"Girls, what did I tell you?"

"But it wasn't us," they both said, "It was the Sapotis!"

"That's enough!" Alya said in a stern voice, "I already told you twice that if you didn't behave I'd tell mom and dad. Well this is strike three!"

"But - "

"No buts! Now go to bed right now. You'll have to wait a whole month to visit the amusement park again."

The twins started to cry as they went back into their room.

"We're sorry, Alya," Etta said.

"Please don't be mad," Ella said.

"I'm not mad. I'm just disappointed."

She closed the door and sat back on the couch. Nino was comforting his brother.

"I didn't mean to get them in trouble," Noël sobbed.

"Hey, come on, it's okay," Nino assured him.

"It's not your fault they acted like they did," Alya said, "If they don't learn their lesson now, then they never will. I can't believe how much I sound like mom."

"It seems like Nino and Alya would be pretty good parents," Marinette thought to herself, "Of course their parents are good parents. Adrien has an aloof father and no mother. How would he do with kids? I hope he wouldn't go in the extreme opposite direction of his father and let his children do whatever they want."

At that very moment, Gabriel was in his lair again.

"I can feel such sadness. What a perfect target."

"Who is it?" Nathalie asked.

"Some little girls that are twins or something."

"A teenager is one thing, Gabriel, but little kids? You can't control them."

"I won't need to. I'll just have them cause chaos."

"Wait, you said they were twins? Can you akumatize them both?"

"It shouldn't be too difficult. It has to be something they've had contact with, and being twins they likely share everything."

In a flash, an Akuma was on the way, followed closely by Optigami. The twins were on the floor crying. They were both holding into the same silly hat. This was the target of the Akuma. Optigami was spying on the rest of the apartment.

"Adrien?" Nathalie thought, "Then this is the Césaire residence."

"Your turn, Adrien," Marinette said.

"I fuse The Merciful Nun and Fallen Angel Marie to summon Saint Jeanne. She attacks your Quantum Cat. I end my turn."

"I fuse Moonlight Crimson Fox with Moonlight Blue Cat to summon Moonlight Cat Dancer. I send Moonlight Purple Butterfly from my hand to the graveyard to have Cat Dancer gain 1000 attack until the end of the turn. She can attack every one of your monsters twice per turn."

"You're too good at this, Mari."

At that moment...

"Hello, girls. I am Le Papillon. Everyone says I'm the bad guy, but I'm going to help you. I'm giving you the power to stay up as late as you want. Eat whatever you want. Do anything at all that you want."

"Really!?" they both said.

"Absolutely! Children should be allowed to do whatever they want."

Adrien suddenly shuddered.

"You okay?" Marinette asked.

"Yeah...I don't know why I did that."

Le Papillon continued, "You shall both have the power to multiply any time you eat. You'll overwhelm anyone who tries to put an end to your fun. That especially goes for the superheroes."

"Now we can be the Sapotis!" they exclaimed.

"Uh, yes, of course. Now go on out and play."

The twins were now small gremlin creatures wearing the goofy hat they were holding. They immediately opened the door and headed for the fridge.

"Ella? Etta?" Alya said, "Oh no!"

The twins scarfed down a few snacks before Alya rushed over and slammed the fridge shut. The twins had mischievous grins on their faces. Suddenly, they multiplied into more copies of themselves.

"They multiply when they eat," Adrien observed, "That reminds me of something."

Some of the Sapotis leapt off the balcony to cause more trouble. A few stayed behind to overwhelm the quartet. Two in particular grabbed Noël.

"Come with us, tattletale," they hissed.

"Noël!" Nino cried.

The remaining Sapotis leapt off the balcony like the rest to wreak havoc through the city.

"We've got to go after them!" Alya exclaimed.

"We're right behind you, Als," Marinette said.

"We should split up," Adrien said, "Maybe the heroes are out on patrol."

"Yeah, and we can give them the run down," Nino said, "Let's go!"

The four rushed outside, with Alya locking the door behind her.

The Lair

Optigami was now heading for a more advantageous spot. Le Papillon was enjoying the chaos, but then noticed Nathalie was giving him a look.

He groaned, "What is it, Nathalie?"

"Children should be allowed to do whatever they want, huh? The irony and hypocrisy is staggering."

"First of all, you have to tell these little brats what they want to hear. Second, they're not my kids, so what do I care what they do?"

The field

As the Sapotis swarmed over the city, Marinette and Adrien managed to find private spots to transform. They soon met up in their alter egos.

"My Lady, this is a crisis. Any idea where the Akuma is?"

"I'm betting it's in those silly hats they're wearing."

"Do we have to catch all of them? Because they keep multiplying."

"It would take way too long to capture all of them now, and even longer to determine the originals. I think what we need is a distraction."

"Maybe something that attracts them all into one place?"

"That sounds ideal."

"I think I have an idea. We're gonna need backup. I'll take care of that."

"In that case, Lucky Charm! Huh, a unicycle. The wheels in my head are turning. I'm going to need some more things for my cunning plan."

"I'll try to hurry back, My Lady."

Matou Noir sprinted off until he reached Fu's place.

"Lucky your place is in a quiet spot, Master."

"Don't I know it? The last thing I need is those little monsters around here. Now to business."

"We're gonna need the Fox Miraculous to catch all these things."

"For yourself, or do you have someone in mind?"

"Oh, we need all the help we can get. As it is we're outnumbered."

He snuck back out and began to look around.

"Alya's way too busy chasing after the twins. Besides, I already know who can handle this."

He finally found Nino sitting on a bench and trying to catch his breath.

"You okay, buddy?"

"Huh? Oh, it's you, mec, I mean, Matou Noir. I've been chasing these things all over the city to get my brother back, but there's too many and they're too fast."

"I know a way to help your brother and everyone else."

He showed him the Fox Miraculous.

"Oh, uh, really? You want me to be the Fox?"

"I trust you, Nino. You're my best male friend."

Nino's eyes widened, "Mec? Is it really you?"

"Guilty as charged. We can talk about it later. Let's save those kids."

"You don't have to tell me twice. Transformez moi!"

Now it was Matou Noir's turn to look surprised.

"You were Zorrua. I should've known. You're like the only person I know you says mec all the time. Wait, that means you know who Ladybird is."

"Yeah, but I can't tell you."

"Good, because you're not supposed to. I want it to be a surprise anyway. Now let's get going."

"If he did find out," Nino thought, "I'm not even sure how much of a surprise it would be."

When they met up with Ladybird, she was busy finishing something that involved duct tape. When she saw Zorrua, she let out a small gasp.

"You picked him to help?"

"I know," Noir said, "You picked him last time and now we both know who he is. Well, relax, beautiful, because he didn't let slip any secrets. If you and I ever share identities, it should be a more personal affair."

"I agree."

"Now what's with the DIY project?"

"I taped some rake heads to this unicycle tire. I need you to get a trash bin so we can collect the silly hats."

"I get it. We get them all in one container so I can destroy the lot and find the Akuma."

"Exactly! You, Zorrua, need to make something that'll lure the Sapotis this way."

He nodded, "You just let me know when you're ready."

Zorrua leapt to a taller building to get a look at the area. That's when he managed to see Alya running through the streets. He wasn't sure if he should go get her, but then he saw her fall to the ground. He immediately jumped from roof to roof to get to where she was.

"Pardon, Mlle. Blogger, may I assist you?" he said, offering a hand.

"Thanks," she groaned, "I really wish I had changed from flip flops to sneakers before I ran out here."

"I hear that. Nothing worse than wearing the wrong thing with no opportunity to change."

"I'm glad you guys are here to help out," she gasped, "Hey, wait a minute. I wasn't even paying attention. You're not a cat or a beetle. You're a new hero! What's your name?"

She took out her phone to take a picture.

"My name's Zorrua. Pleased to formally meet you. Would you care to give us a hand?"

"You have a plan to help my sisters? Count me in!"

"I hope you don't mind."

"Mind what?"

He scooped her up into his arms.

"Oh...that."

"Hang on tight."

"This is so cool! It's like I'm in a movie. So what power do you have?"

"Why tell you when I can show you?"

In a few bounds, the pair were on the same roof as Ladybird and Matou Noir.

"Oh, you brought her. That's great," Ladybird said, "Any help is welcome."

"I get to help you again?"

"You did such a good job last time, after all."

"Do I get to be a superhero?"

"Right now I just need you to be a sister."

Alya seemed to calm down a bit, "Right...I can do that."

"What's the plan, My Lady?"

"First, we place my machine in this narrow alley."

They wedged it into the alley at just the right height.

"Next, Alya and I will use these traffic cones like megaphones to get the attention of the Sapotis. Finally, Zorrua provides the bait. Wait until we get in place. Minou, would you mind giving us a ride to the ground?"

"Huh? Oh, I get it."

He walked to the edge of the building and extended his staff to the ground.

"Before we go," Alya said, "What is the bait?"

Zorrua pulled out his flute, "Mirage!"

He shot a ball of light into the distance. In a flash, there was now a bright, shiny amusement park dubbed Sapotisland.

"That's so cool! Now for my part," Alya slid down the staff, "Let's go, old chum!"

Ladybird followed while looked confused, "Old chum?"

Matou Noir and Zorrua snickered.

"Okay, Alya," she said, "You go that way, and I'll go this way."

Alya let out a loud whistle, "Calling all Sapotis! Right this way to the amazing Sapotisland! Do whatever you want! Eat all you want! No one allowed except Sapotis!"

"Come one, come all! Sapotis that is!" Ladybird announced, "This way if you want to get into the park! No need to push or shove! Single file please!"

The Sapotis began to swarm the area, and despite all the chaos, they did what was asked of them. As the little gremlins walked through the alleyway, the device Ladybird rigged up spun around to grab every hat.

The Lair

Le Papillon was facepalming, "It's obviously an illusion and they're falling for it."

"They're children, Gabriel. What did you expect? Akumatizing them didn't do their intelligence any favors. I hope you've learned a lesson here."

He grumbled, "No more akumatizing children. Teenagers are one thing, but this was never going to work."

"He can be taught."

The "fairgrounds"

As more and more Sapotis arrived, Alya spotted Noël still being carried around by a small group of the monsters. As soon as he was close enough, she immediately reached out and pulled him close.

"Are you okay?"

"Where's Nino?"

"I'm sure he's on his way. He's out looking for you."

From on the roof, Zorrua saw Alya rescue his brother. So he leapt down to make sure he was okay.

"You okay, little mec?"

Noël was in awe, "Wow! Who are you?"

"My name's Zorrua. What's yours?"

"I'm Noël. Have you seen my brother Nino?"

"Trust me, buddy, he's very close and safe from harm. I'm going to get you home as soon as I can. First we need to fix all this. Wanna help?"

"Okay!"

"Climb on my back and hold tight."

Zorrua leapt back onto the roof next to Matou Noir. They almost had every hat.

"Just a few more to go," Noir said.

"Matou Noir! So Cool!" Noël exclaimed.

"You here to help, little guy?"

"Just tell me what to do!"

That's when they noticed the wheel had stopped turning.

"You can watch me do my part. Cataclysm!"

He touched the trash bin, and then it and every hat inside disintegrated. The Akuma wearily emerged from the debris.

"Whoa," Noël said, "That's so freaky!"

Ladybird joined them, "How's about our secret handshake?"

Noir nodded, "I thought you'd never ask."

"Miraculous!"

The wave fixed all the damages, and the sea of Sapotis disappeared. Ella and Etta were left sitting on the ground.

"How did we get here?" Ella asked.

"I can't remember anything," Etta said.

Alya sprinted towards them.

"Uh oh..."

Alya stopped to look at them.

"We're sorry if we did anything bad, Alya," Etta said.

"Yeah, please don't be mad," Ella said.

Much to their surprise, Alya pulled them both into a hug.

"I was so worried about you two. Someday I'll find out who Le Papillon is, and when I do, I'm going to beat him within an inch of his life."

"The heroes!" the twins exclaimed, "Noël!"

"I think it's time we all got home, don't you?" Ladybird said.

"Have you seen my friends?" Alya asked.

"We'll keep an eye out," Matou Noir said, "Ready to get home fast, girls?"

"Who's going with whom?" Ladybird asked.

"You three should get the kids home first," Alya said, "Once they're in bed, you can come back for me. Until then, I'll walk back."

Matou Noir took Ella, Ladybird took Etta, and Zorrua took Noël. They quickly returned to the Césaire residence. Once the kids were in bed...

"You guts stay here and watch the kids," Zorrua said, "I'll go get Alya. She shouldn't be all by herself."

He leapt out the window.

"It is so cute how much he cares," Ladybird said.

"He's an inspiration," Noir added.

Zorrua quickly found Alya. She had taken off her flip flops so she could run properly.

"Need a lift?"

Alya stopped to catch her breath, "I'd appreciate that."

He once again picked her up in his arms and leapt to the nearest roof.

"Wow, you're a good jumper. Ladybird needs her yo-yo, and Matou Noir needs his staff."

"I guess it's compensation for my only weapon being a flute."

"I remember the incident with that giant gorilla Akuma. There were all these copies of Adrien in different parts of the city. That was your work, wasn't it?"

"I was definitely surprised when Ladybird asked me to help out."

"Were you nervous?"

"Not nearly as nervous as I was when I was telling this beautiful woman how I felt about her."

"You have a girlfriend?"

"Greatest in the world."

"Aw, that's sweet. You remind me of my boyfriend. He was always friendly and sociable, but he was also pretty quiet. Now that we're together, it's kind of surprising how...frisky he can be."

"From what I know of you, Mlle. Blogger, he better be treating you like a queen."

"Oh, stop it. One thing I've been wondering since my dad was akumatized though, is who is Le Papillon, and what do they want?"

"You've been thinking about this a lot?"

"It made me so frustrated that I got akumatized over it. I don't think there's a pattern. Which can only mean one thing."

"What's that?"

"Whoever this Le Papillon is...they're just a jerk."

They finally arrived at the apartment. He set her down on the balcony.

"Thanks a lot, Fox Boy."

"My duty, my pleasure," he replied with a bow.

"There you guys are," Ladybird said.

"How are the kids?" Alya asked.

"Out like a light," Matou Noir said.

"Any sign of my friends?"

"They should be here any minute," Ladybird said, "Shall we be going, gentlemen?"

"She can't be talking to us," Noir said, "We're no gentlemen."

"Speak for yourself," Zorrua quipped.

The trio leapt from the balcony to the roof. With them gone, Alya let out a sigh of relief and stretched out on the couch. Meanwhile, the trio were talking.

"I'm gonna head out," Ladybird said, "Since you gave him the Miraculous, I trust you to take it back."

"You can count on me," Matou Noir replied, "You head out and relax."

"Thanks, Minou. Nice working with you again, Zorrua."

She swung away, leaving the cat and fox together. They went to find a dark corner to change back in.

"You did great, Nino."

"Thanks, mec."

"It's kinda risky know both our identities."

"A risk, yes, but also a privilege. You better take this back so the girls won't worry about us."

"Why don't you hold onto it? At least until we leave."

"Really? Okay. Hey, I just noticed that the necklace looks completely different."

"Yeah, that's magic for you."

While they were heading back, Marinette sent Alya a text.

Nette: Are you okay? Are the kids okay?

Als: I'm fine, and the kids are asleep. I got to help the heroes! Where are you?

Nette: I'm outside. Open the door!

As soon as Alya opened the door, Marinette ran into her.

"Sorry, Als."

"I'm just glad we're all okay."

Right then, Adrien and Nino came barreling in.

"Is my bro okay?"

"He's sound asleep, Nino," Alya assured him.

"That's one way to babysit, I guess," Adrien said.

Someone tapped on his shoulder. Alya had a big smile on her face.

"Nora, you're back!"

"Yeah, I would've been back sooner, but the match was paused because of those gremlin things."

"They were Sapotis."

"Sapotis? Wait, those things were the twins, weren't they?"

"Yeah, they got akumatized. It's partially my fault. They kept acting up and I got tough with them. They were upset."

Nora gave her a hug.

"Hey, come on, you did the right thing. It's that butterfly person that made them monsters."

"Some day, I'll find out who Le Papillon really is."

"Well, now that you're back, Nora," Marinette said, "We're just going to head out."

"Yeah, we'll see you later, babe," Nino said.

Alya gave him a peck on the cheek, while Nora gave him a dirty look. Nino was almost as tall as Nora, but she definitely had more muscle. Adrien and Marinette wisely left the scene, with Nino close behind. Nino made sure to slip the necklace to Adrien before they left.

Time passes...

Summer went on, now approaching July. The four friends were at Alya's place again.

"I'm glad you could make it, Adrien."

"Father objected at first. He always says I have better things to do. What they are, I have no idea. I managed to convince him to let me come."

"How'd you do that?"

"You know that box of macarons you gave me? I said I'd eat all of them in front of him. He looked about ready to scream. Nathalie gave him a look, and then, no doubt reluctantly, allowed me to come. Once I left, I began snacking on said macarons."

"Even after he let you come? Aren't you supposed to watch what you eat?"

"I am watching. How else could I eat them? Plus I'm nowhere near father. Anyway, I get plenty of exercise. I'll work off the sugar rush."

Nino and Alya were playing a dancing video game, and were perfectly in synch.

"So where did your parents go, Als?" Marinette asked.

"Mom and dad took the twins on vacation with them. If I recall, they more than likely went to show them our roots: Martinique and Louisiana."

"That's cool. I've been to China and Italy."

"I've been to Morocco," Nino said, "But it's been a while."

"I'm sure I've been to England at some point," Adrien said.

The game ended, and Nino did a big dramatic pose as the music stopped.

"You guys are really good at that," Marinette observed.

"We've been practicing," Alya said, "Let's show her, Nino. Pick out a good song on your phone."

Nino placed his phone on the table as it began playing some Disco song Marinette was sure she heard Nino listening to in the past. Nino and Alya began on opposite sides of the room, and as the song played on, they got closer and closer. Once they met in the middle, they held hands and began twirling around. As the song ended, the couple were staring at each other intently.

"I'm back!" a voice rang out, "Total knock out!"

It was Nora.

"Why are you two breathing so hard? Were you trying anything funny, Cappy?"

"Oh, Nora," Alya said, "We were just dancing. Nino is a perfect gentleman. Besides, why would anyone fool around with an audience? Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to freshen up for tonight."

"What do you mean?"

"In the usual French fashion of saying we can do it better than the Americans, even though it's not our Independence Day, they're going to have a fireworks display tonight."

"You can't go out there."

"We've been planning this since it was announced, Nora. Why can't I go?"

"Because it's too dangerous. Even if they don't happen that often, these Akuma attacks are no joke. You stay here where you're safe."

"In case you forgot, Nora, the twins were akumatized in this very apartment. Besides, if anything does happen, there are superheroes to help out."

"A ladybug and a cat...great. They couldn't pick more intimidating animals?"

"There's also a fox."

"Whatever! The baker girl, the model boy, and your nerdy little liaison can go if they want, but I don't trust them to protect you. They can't hope to match Anansi."

"What did you just call him?" Alya growled.

Nino quickly got between the sisters.

"Come on now, ladies, let's calm down. Nora/Anansi, we're all friends here. We always look out for each other. I know you don't want to hear this, but I love Alya, and I'd do anything to protect her. On top of that, she's fully capable of taking care of herself."

"Plus mom and dad said I could go," Alya said, "So your argument is invalid."

"Oh yeah?" Nora sat down at the table, "How about an arm wrestling match to decide the outcome?"

Alya smiled and sat down, "Okay, that's fair."

Despite the fact that Nora worked out more, Alya was holding her own. Just as Nora was gaining ground, Alya smiled.

"Help me out, babe."

Nino joined her in the arm wrestling contest. Nora was still putting up a good fight though.

"Hey, no fair! Two on one is cheating."

"Akumas don't fight fair either, Nora," Alya said, "You trained me to defend myself, so please just trust me. Also, whatever your feelings towards Nino, he said he'd protect me, and I'd do the same for him. That's what couples do. That's what friends do."

At last, they slammed Nora's hand on the table. She didn't know what to say.

"I know you love me, Nora. I love you, too. I'm glad you care so much, but I can't just hide in here."

Nora headed for her room, "I guess you don't need me anymore."

As she shut the door, Alya wanted to stop her, but she knew if she did, Nora might change her mind.

"I'd better get changed so we can go."

"Whatever you say, babe," Nino replied.

As they waited, Marinette and Adrien sat back on the couch.

"I can't imagine what it's like to be a sibling," Marinette said, "It's actually kind of surprising my parents only had one kid."

"I knew my parents only wanted one kid," Adrien said, "The closest I have to a sibling is Chloé."

The four friends headed to the Place de la Concorde. They walked around until the sun started to set. They got on the Ferris wheel to get a better view of the fireworks.

Meanwhile...

At that very moment, Gabriel was in his lair.

"I'm getting bored with all these preparations, Nathalie. I think an Akuma is in order."

"Solely to relieve your boredom, Gabriel? Half the time all this does is give you a headache."

He was already using his power.

"I can feel such strong sorrow and regret. What a perfect target. Hold off on Optigami until I figure out what my victim wants."

The Akuma swiftly made its way to the Césaire residence and squeezed into Nora's room. She was looking at her headgear with a defeated look on her face. This was the Akuma's target.

"Greetings, my dear. I am Le Papillon."

"What do you want?"

"I know exactly how you feel. Even with all your strength, you can't always protect your sister. Especially not when she defies your wishes. I'll give you all the power you need to eliminate anyone or anything that gets in your way."

"And in return you want me to take the jewelry from those puny heroes."

"Would you mind?"

"A chance to take them on and show how much stronger I am? Bring it on! Just call me Anansi."

"Uh, okay. Remind me what that means."

"Anansi is a spider from African folklore. I use the name when I'm having a boxing match."

"I see. In that case, you shall have all the strengths of a spider and a boxer. Let the fight begin, Anansi."

Anansi was now around 10 feet tall, so she had to duck to fit in her room. Now that she had six arms, she quickly punched through the wall and headed for the Place de la Concorde. She leapt from rooftop to rooftop.

"Here I some, petite soeur."

Meanwhile, they were shooting a few fireworks like a test run. Suddenly, the Ferris wheel was now heading back down.

"What's the idea?" Alya wondered, "We're not done yet."

As their cab reached the ground, that's when the Akuma showed herself. She ripped the door off the cab.

"Nora?!"

"I told you not to call me that, especially not now! I am Anansi! Your man thinks he's so tough, but let's see what he can do when he's all tied up!"

She grabbed Nino and then shot a string of webbing from her mouth, wrapping him up completely. She then picked him up and ran off.

"I...hate...spiders!" Nino shouted.

"Nora, get back here!" Alya screamed, "I'm going after her. Will you guys be okay?"

"We'll go see if we can flag down the heroes," Marinette said.

"Yeah, just be careful out there, Alya," Adrien said.

She gave him a smile and a wink before she ran after her sister.

"I'll go this way," Marinette said.

"Okay, then I'll go this way," Adrien said, "Let's try to meet back here."

They ran off in different directions, avoiding the crowd, and straight into a secluded place to transform. They met up on a nearby roof.

"You think we can take her, My Lady? She's really big, and actually knows how to fight."

"I know, but we can't just let her kidnap Nino and have Alya challenging her. We have to try, while thinking of a good plan. Oh, and I may as well try this. Lucky Charm!"

"That looks like a miniature version of the Miracle box."

"A plan is forming, but first we have to try."

Anansi had spun a giant web around the Arc de Triomphe, with Nino stuck in the middle. Alya was already there.

"Leave him alone and come get me, Nora!"

"Anansi!" she snapped as she landed in front of Alya.

"Get your own boyfriend, Nora."

"I could deal with you right now if I wanted to, but you're not even a challenge. I'm waiting for the heroes to show up and give me a good fight. Ah, and here they come, straight into my parlor."

"We're calling you out, Spider Lady," Noir said.

"My name is Anansi!"

"Somehow I doubt you're smart enough to be Anansi," Ladybird said.

Anansi was seething, "I don't need to be that smart to beat you into submission!"

She began punching with all of her arms.

"Are you okay up there, Nino?" Alya called.

"I'd prefer to be on the ground, but since this webbing is really sticky, I don't think I'm going anywhere."

Despite the fact that it was two on one, Anansi was putting up a tough fight. At one point, she grabbed Matou Noir and slammed him into Ladybird.

"I thought you'd be more of a challenge!"

Optigami was watching nearby.

"Look at her throw them around like ragdolls, Nathalie," Papillon said with a sinister chuckle.

Matou Noir was getting several good hits on Anansi with his staff.

"Why you little..."

She managed to grab him and toss him into the webbing.

"Excellent work, Anansi," Papillon said, "Now get his ring."

She effortlessly climbed up the Arc and onto her web. Just as she reached for his ring though...

"Cataclysm!"

She flinched as he activated his power.

"With my power activated, you can't get my ring without severe consequences."

"I'll find a way around that. Until then, I'll go after the bug. Wait a minute...where'd she go?!"

"Never mind her," Alya said, "I'll fight you myself!"

"I'll make you eat those words, petite soeur."

Ladybird hurried to the shop.

"Master Fu, my power told me to come here. I need another Miraculous."

"I see on the news that this spider woman has taken over the Arc. Did you have someone in mind to help you?"

"I can't think of anyone better suited for the job. I'll need the Turtle Miraculous."

He raised his arm, "I used to favor the Turtle myself back in the day. I like to wear it now and then. I'm sure whoever you choose will be perfect."

"Thank you, Master," she replied, slipping the bracelet onto her wrist, "Sometimes I wish there was a faster way to do this."

He started thinking as she ran back to the fight. Meanwhile, Alya was attempting to fight Anansi, but the power and height difference made it one-sided.

"I taught you well, petite soeur, but I could send you flying with a flick of my fingers."

While Anansi boasted, Alya noticed Matou Noir's staff on the ground. She grabbed it and used it to smack Anansi in the face.

"You let your guard down," Alya taunted.

"I will break you!"

Just then, Ladybird swung past, grabbing Alya in the process.

"Get back here!"

Anansi began searching the area. Ladybird found a spot far enough away that it would take Anansi awhile to find them.

"Thanks for the save, Ladybird. I know I shouldn't have tried to fight an Akuma, but she's really getting on my nerves."

"Considering she's your sister, I think I can see where you're coming from. What do you say we even the odds?"

"What do you mean?"

"Alya, I need your help."

"Really?! I finally get to help you?! I mean like officially. I've been waiting for this moment for so long!"

"Alya, please try to stay calm. We're doing this to help your sister."

Alya did calm down, "You're right, I'm sorry. I should take this seriously, but I was already excited as it is. I'd like to ask, though, why would you pick me? It's not just because it's my sister, is it? I mean, you don't even really know me."

"I know you better than you think, Als. No, it's not just to help your sister. It's also because I trust you."

"You trust me? I know I shouldn't ask this, but...who are you?"

After a quick look around, she said, "De-transform."

Alya was definitely surprised, "Marinette?"

"Hey, Als."

Alya pulled her into a hug, "All this time...I should've known. You've done so much. That's why you seem to disappear. That's why you once told me comic books and manga are reference material."

"The life of a superhero. I've got to get inspiration from somewhere," she said, pulling away, "Alya, this is the Miraculous of the Turtle. I need you by my side to stop the Akuma. I can't think of anyone more qualified than my best friend."

"I'll do my best, girl. Oh, and I also promise not to get too carried away."

"That's all I ask. Now put on the bracelet, focus on what your costume will look like, and then say, transform me."

Alya closed her eyes, "Transformez moi!"

Alya was now wearing a tight outfit that was various shades of green accented with orange. She seemed to be wearing knee pads, arm guards, and shoulder pads. Her hair was in a bushy ponytail. A large shield was on her back.

"Whoa, I look good."

"You do look amazing, Alya," Marinette said, changing back into Ladybird, "I might have to copy your style."

"Hey, keep it down. I don't know anyone named Alya. I'm a hero, just like you."

"Oh, right. Who are you, mysterious new superhero?"

"The name is Tortank, fellow hero. Let's go save my man, I mean that cap-wearing citizen, and your chaton."

"Sounds good to me."

"Real quick, how do I get there?"

"Oh yeah, you don't have anything to swing around with. I guess you'll just have to run...unless you want to hang onto me."

"I may be a turtle, but I'll bet I could keep up with you."

Ladybird smirked, "We'll see about that."

She used her yo-yo to swing away. Tortank tried jumping like Zorrua.

"I should've known that wouldn't work. Come on, you've read a lot of stories. Think of something clever."

She did a quick scan of the area. She ran to the nearest wall, and then kick jumped off it to the other wall. She repeated this until she managed to jump onto the roof. Tortank was now leaping from rooftop to rooftop. She was also singing to herself in excitement. Once they reached the Arc, Ladybird caught some of the lyrics.

"I just can't wait until I hear my cellphone ring! Doesn't matter if it's day or night! Everything is gonna be all right! Whenever you need me, baby!"

"AHEM!"

"Huh? Oh, sorry. Lead the way, Ladybird."

"We're already practically there. Here comes Anansi."

Anansi rushed back to her web to make sure they couldn't free her prey.

"Is that a new hero?" Nino asked.

"I don't think Ladybird wears green, so I'm gonna say yes. So are you okay up there?"

"Well, at least I won't fall any time soon. How about you?"

"Oh, you know. Just hanging around."

"You've been waiting to use that one, haven't you?"

"...maybe."

Meanwhile, Anansi confronted the duo.

"Well if it isn't the puny little ladybug. You brought a friend for me to beat up, too. The kitten couldn't take it, so he cheated by threatening to destroy everything. So who's the wimp?"

"My name is Tortank, and I'm here to take you down."

"I'm like twice your size, runt."

"Haven't you ever heard the story of Anansi and the turtle? Guess what? It doesn't end well for you."

"Are you trying to threaten me, squirt? You think you can take me?"

"Bring it on."

"Try to keep her busy as long as you can," Ladybird whispered, "I need to make a plan."

"Copy that."

Ladybird stepped back and said, "Lucky Charm! Boxing gloves?"

She looked at the sisters fighting, and then at the web-covered Arc.

"I think I have an idea. I just have to wait for the right moment."

Anansi was sending punch after punch at Tortank.

"You're pretty agile for a turtle."

"You're pretty slow for a spider."

Anansi snarled and leapt into the air, "Anansi smash!"

Tortank dodged the impact. Anansi left a huge crack in the cement. Tortank slammed into her legs, knocking her down. Anansi immediately kicked Tortank, and then leapt to her feet. Before Tortank could get up, Anansi grabbed her by the leg and slammed her into the ground repeatedly. Tortank was winded, but tried to get up.

"Stay down, wimp. You're next, Bug Girl."

Before Anansi could walk away, something hard hit her in the back of the head. She turned to see Tortank picked her shield up.

"You just don't know when to quit, do you?"

Tortank, although breathing hard, gave a weak smile, "I could do this all day."

"Hold it!" Ladybird called out.

The turtle and the spider turned to look. Ladybird gestured to the Arc. She wrapped her yo-yo around it several times to create a makeshift boxing ring.

"Enough street fighting. Why not make this last match count? You really want to face Tortank? Do it in the ring."

Anansi looked at the ring, and then turned her unnerving pupilless eyes to Tortank.

"You've got a deal...if only because I know I'll win. I've won championships! I've taught savate to others! I've even practiced western boxing and MMA!"

"Well if you're so sure of yourself," Tortank said, "Then let's get it over with."

Ladybird handed her the boxing gloves and gave her a wink, "Bring the house down."

The opponents climbed into the ring.

"Last chance to hide in your shell," Anansi said.

"There are people to save, so nothing doing."

Ladybird shouted, "Ding ding!"

Anansi sent a punch towards Tortank, who in turn dodged.

"Were you even aiming for me, ugly?"

Anansi growled, "What did you call me?"

She ran at Tortank, who ducked out of the way. Anansi's punch instead hit the wall, which started to crack.

"Oh, you missed me."

Another punch, another miss, another cracked wall

"Ooh, so close."

Yet another punch that hit the wall.

"Maybe you should try aiming away from me."

"SHUT UP!"

Again, Anansi hit the wall. The cracks all started to expand.

"Do something besides dodging, you little shrimp!"

"If you insist."

Ladybird tightened the cord on her yo-yo to accelerate the cracks in the Arc. She then recalled her yo-yo as fast as possible. Anansi finally noticed the structure was falling apart.

"No!"

Tortank knocked her legs out from under her, gave her a few punches, and then struck her in the face with her shield. Ladybird swung by and grabbed Tortank. They landed in the web next to Nino and Matou Noir.

As the Arc collapsed, Tortank shouted, "Shell-ter!"

A transparent, green, spherical force field with a hexagonal pattern materialized around the four and stayed suspended in midair. Anansi was buried under the rubble, but she still struggled to get back up. With a gesture, Tortank brought the force field down on top of Anansi like a weight. She snapped her fingers to remove the force field.

"Are you okay, Chaton?" Ladybird asked.

"I still haven't dissipated my power yet."

"I think I can help with that," Tortank said, walking over to Anansi.

Anansi was barely conscious now, "I...can...still...fight."

"The Akuma is likely in her headgear," Tortank said, grabbing the item, "Heads up, Cat Boy."

She tossed the headgear to Matou Noir, who grabbed it with his charged hand. The item was destroyed, and the Akuma was trying to fly away.

"Shall we, Minou?"

"As of you need to ask, Ladybird."

Tortank handed her the boxing gloves.

"Miraculous!"

"Man, am I glad the Arc de Triomphe is fixed," Nino said.

"Are you okay, handsome?" Tortank asked.

"Huh? Oh, yeah, I'm fine. Wait, but where's Alya?"

"Relax, handsome, she's perfectly safe. When Ladybird grabbed her earlier, I showed up to tell her quite firmly to stay where it's safe."

"And she actually listened? In that case, I better get some pictures of you. She runs a blog, you see."

"Oh, well, by all means."

"How about an interview?"

"Make it quick, please," Ladybird said.

"I'm gonna head out actually," Matou Noir said, "Until next time."

"So what's your name?" Nino asked.

"My name's Tortank, citizen. I'm the new turtle hero. You saw my power of protection."

"Awesome!"

"We have to get going, Tortank."

"Right you are, Ladybird. Until we meet again, Nino."

The duo ran off.

"Hey, she knew my name. Cool!"

The Lair

"Why do all my Akumas seem to end up getting dumber?"

"I told you all this would do is give you a headache," Nathalie said.

"I'm going to find something work related to do."

"Isn't it a bit late for that?"

"Whatever."

The scene

"Thank you so much for letting me help you, girl."

"You're one heck of a fighter, Als."

"Do you think we'll ever fight side by side again?"

"You can count on it. Right now, though, let's get back."

Alya gasped, "Nora!"

Nino was helping her up.

"Huh? Oh, it's you."

"Nice to see you, too, Nora."

"Everything all right over here?" Brigadier Raincomprix asked.

Adrien came running up, followed closely by Marinette and Alya.

"My sister was akumatized, officer. I'm here to take her home."

"Alya, no," Nora said, "I shouldn't try to run your life."

"We can see the fireworks from home anyway. You need to lie down."

"I feel like I just had a really strenuous workout."

"No need for you to walk all the way back," Roger said, "I'll gladly give you a ride."

"We'd appreciate that, sir," Marinette said.

They all managed to fit inside the car. Once back home, Alya and Nino helped Nora to her room.

"Nino, I need to talk with Nora."

"Say no more, babe."

As soon as he was gone...

"I don't ever want to hear you say something like that again. You're my sister, and I'll always need you. You taught me self-defense. When mom and dad were busy, you were there to look after me."

"Thanks, Alya. I'm sorry again for being overprotective."

"That's what an older sibling does, Nora. Now get some rest."

The sisters hugged, and then Alya went to join her friends.

"Everything okay?" Nino asked.

"Everything's great."

"Hey, you can see the fireworks from here," Adrien said.

"Oh, hey, I got these pictures of the new hero," Nino said.

Alay looked through his phone, "Very nice. She's really pretty, isn't she?"

"Is she? I wasn't really paying attention."

"She saved your life though."

"That doesn't change the fact that there's only one woman for me," he replied with a wink.

Alya rolled her eyes, "Do you have to be so sweet all the time?"

He shrugged, "It's a curse."

The four friends watched the rest of the fireworks show.

Later

A few weeks after that, Nino and Alya were hanging out at his house this time.

"It's always such a nice contrast in the food our families like to serve," Alya said, "That is when they don't just order out."

"Yeah... Hey, Alya, I just noticed something."

"What's that, Nino?"

"Everyone in your family is named after a singer, aren't they?"

"Yes, that's true. That includes me."

"You are? Oh right. What a tragedy that was. Still, isn't it funny how life can turn out sometimes?"

"What do you mean?"

"Here I am, a DJ who also makes his own music, and I end up with a beautiful woman from a family all named after musicians."

"That is indeed a lucky coincidence."

"You know what? I don't think I've ever heard you sing, babe."

She started playing with her hair, "Oh, well, I'm nothing special really. I only do it now and then for fun."

"I'm not asking you perform for an audience, Alya. It's just for me."

She gave him a warm smile, "Only for you, Nino."

She got up, took a few breaths, and then began to sing the first song that popped into her head. As she continued the song, Nino watched her with his mouth hanging open.

"Oui, c'était bien un signe! Un monde se termine! Que le chemin du printemps, Soit ma victoire, Sur le temps!"

Alya stood there, waiting for a response. Nino slowly stood up and clapped.

"You really liked it?"

"No...I loved it. You have an amazing voice."

"Merci," she replied, kissing him on the cheek.

"We should totally have a karaoke night or something."

"Somehow I knew you were going to say that. You know who can sing surprisingly well? Marinette."

"Really? I'm sure I must've heard her at some point, but I can't recall. I know I've heard Adrien sing. He wasn't too bad."

"Maybe we should get them to sing a duet."

"Yeah...and then we get onstage and show them how to really sing."

The two began to laugh, and then Nino wrapped an arm around Alya's shoulder. She smiled and leaned into him.

"Real smooth, lover boy."
