Ch. 23: Remember Me

While all the higher ranking members were in custody, there was still work to do rounding up the dozens of subordinates. Those that were captured quickly spilled their secrets. However, there was always the odd attempt to either leave the country with the smuggled merchandise, or even trying to free the captive bosses. With joint effort between the Miraculous heroes and the police, every attempt was foiled. The holidays were soon here and gone, with one notable result.

"Marinette, your motorcycle is finally ready," Sabine said.

"You will be careful, right, sweetie?" Tom asked.

"I've got a cool helmet already picked out, Papa."

When January rolled around, it was time for another birthday.

"Sabrina, this is your 18th birthday," Chloé said, lounging on her sofa, "Which means I'll treat you to anything you want."

"That goes double for me," Zoé said, "Chloé will treat you to anything you want twice."

Chloé rolled her eyes.

"You've already given me so much, Chloé," Sabrina said.

"What are you talking about? We haven't even spent that much time together recently."

Sabrina lowered her voice, "You helped my dad."

"I did what now?"

"I got the buzz on how hard you've been working."

Chloé's eyes went wide.

"No one told me, Chloé. I figured it out for myself."

"How?"

"Well, you did say you knew how to get in contact with the heroes. On top of that, why would a superhero know exactly where I live?"

"Oh…I guess I wasn't thinking about that."

"Because my dad had been akumatized and you needed my help. Then after that, the heroes began to investigate the nightclub and the rest of the smuggling ring. I knew you all would eventually, but for it to happen not long after I brought it up to you…"

"She makes quite the detective, huh?" Zoé said.

"I was going to tell you eventually," Chloé said, "I thought you might be a little angry."

"What, because you didn't give me a Miraculous? I don't need one. I'm your civilian contact. Besides, I knew that if you were out there fighting crime, Zoé would have to be there with you. You two make a good team."

Chloé cleared her throat, "Yes, well, that doesn't change the fact that we need to take you out for your birthday."

"I'm happy just spending the day doing whatever with you two."

"In that case, that means we're going shopping."

Unbeknownst to them, in another part of the hotel, Amelie was still making phone calls, while Félix was listening to music.

Amelie sighed, "Finally, I think that's everything. Félix, pay attention."

He removed his ear buds, "What is it now, Mother?"

"It's about time we paid a visit to our dear friend Gabriel."

"I see no reason why we should hurry. No one knows we're here, and Gabriel isn't going anywhere. I say give it another week or two. Why not three?"

"This is kind of important, Feefee."

"Please don't call me that, Mother. I realize it's important, but I think you need to de-stress yourself first. Go to a spa and relax for a bit before you get excited and scream at Gabriel."

"Well…perhaps you're right. After all that's happened, I do deserve to treat myself. "

So for the next three weeks, they relaxed and spoiled themselves, all the while avoiding everyone else. After that, they went straight to the Agreste mansion. It was the weekend, so Adrien and Placide were out. Gabriel was, of course, at least partially working. Nathalie was organizing schedules and events.

*BUZZ*

"Who could that be?" Nathalie wondered to herself.

That's when a voice Gabriel never wanted to hear again came through the intercom.

"Open the door, Gabriel."

Gabriel rushed over to the security camera.

"Amelie?! What is she doing here?" Gabriel snapped.

"She didn't want to see you any more than you wanted to see her," Nathalie said, "So it must be important. I'll get the door."

Amelie strutted into the atelier.

"Gabriel, so nice to see you again."

"The feeling isn't mutual. What's he doing here?"

Félix was now lounging on the sofa, a smug look on his face.

"My Félix is always with me. Speaking of which, where is your rebellious teenager?"

He hesitated, "Adrien is out at the moment."

"You don't know where, do you? Heavens, you are foolish."

"Get to the point, Amelie. Why are you here?"

"I am here because of a certain incident that took place not too long ago that has affected my lifestyle. It's never been a secret between certain people in our social group what my late husband did for a living."

"Only Tomoe, Nathalie, and myself know that Colt Fathom was an arms dealer."

"Yes, and when he passed, I took it upon myself to continue the business. However, thanks to those annoying heroes, I've lost one of my best clients - Les Gang de Griffes."

"How unfortunate," Gabriel replied, voice laced with sarcasm.

"I also blame you for this, Gabriel. Don't bother acting innocent. I know what you've been doing in your free time."

"You know nothing."

"Oh, don't I? Emilie told me all about her little obsession. Tomoe filled in the rest. So tell me, you aspiring supervillain, what possessed you to send the heroes after Les Gang?"

Gabriel said nothing.

"Still trying to deny it, are we? Félix, my little darling, what's Gabriel's favorite hobby these days?"

"Terrorizing the city, of course. Everyone here knows he's Le Papillon. Who else could it be?"

Gabriel glared at him, "Why you little -"

"Don't you dare touch him. You seriously think just because you've kept quiet for months that everyone would forget about you? Was that your cunning plan?"

Gabriel kept quiet.

"I know you're just itching to get back in the game. So let me ask you this: if you really wanted the heroes to forget about you, why didn't you just make an Akuma that would force them to forget everything?"

"That's…actually a good plan."

"I'm glad you agree. I'm guessing you have somewhere private that you do your plotting?"

He hesitated, "I -"

*BUZZ*

"Ah, there she is now," Amelie said, "I took the liberty of inviting her to this meeting."

"Hurry up and open the door, Gabriel," came a stern voice.

Nathalie did so.

"Tomoe-san, right this way."

"I've been here enough times that I can find Gabriel's atelier."

"Tomoe-san, so glad you could make it," Amelie said.

"That gang of idiots was also one of my better clients. Even if one of them kidnapped Kagami, as long as I was still getting their business, I was willing to let it go. Now, thanks to you, Gabriel, that's no longer an option."

"Perhaps we should step into my other office…the soundproof one."

He led everyone to his secret elevator and into the lair.

"This is your other office? Or should I call it a lair?" Amelie asked.

"A sun lamp, some flowers, a small table, and one chair," Félix said, "This is rather pathetic. I'll get the chair for you, Tomoe-san."

"Good, because this could take a while."

As he placed the chair behind her, Optigami flew past him and landed on Nathalie's shoulder.

"A paper butterfly with eyes on the wings," Amelie said, "I'm guessing that's your spy?"

"How could you possibly know so much about the Miraculous?" Gabriel demanded.

"Why do you think I encouraged your wife to go on her little trip, Gabriel?" Tomoe said, "I already knew about the Miraculous for some time. I discovered quite a bit when I was younger. Many people searched for them, but only a handful turned up anything worthwhile. Emilie wasn't the first to find that grimoire, but unlike her, these other idiots saw no value in an old book they couldn't translate. In my travels, I gleaned enough information from what I could find to learn enough to know that it was all true. Even after the accident that cost me my eyesight, I could never forget everything I got from that book. Eventually, those gang leaders approached me for some…merchandise. I knew that in order to make sure they would be a long-running client, they'd need real power behind their organization. I told them everything I knew about the Miraculous. Their reach was quite great. It spanned all of Europe, part of the United States, and a few Caribbean islands. Eventually, they managed to collect several Miraculous. Of course, they were too stupid to understand what it was they actually had. Luckily, Amelie and I filled them in."

"So in a way you're responsible for my wife's death."

"Don't act like you're the only one who misses her, Gabriel," Amelie said, "That's not important right now. What is important is that, thanks to you, all the high-ranking members of the organization have been arrested," Amelie said.

"I was barely involved," Gabriel said, "Even if I hadn't raised suspicion of the nightclub, the heroes would've done something sooner or later."

"Regardless, what exactly have you accomplished in your tenure as a supervillain?"

"It just so happens that in the months that those heroes were busy taking down a crime syndicate, I learned how to create my own Akuma rather than using an actual butterfly. It saves time."

"Not to mention money," Nathalie added, "You'd be surprised how much it costs to purchase all those cocoons."

"Yes, well, bravo for you," Amelie continued, "Anything else? Obviously you haven't learned their identities. "

"They're too fast for Optigami…not to mention too careful."

"Hiding in your lair like a coward at least gives you the advantage of never being seen. On the other hand, that blog I've been perusing is awfully close to discovering your identity."

"Told you so," Nathalie said.

"All the more reason to enact this new plan," Gabriel said, "And there's no time like the present. Transformez-moi."

Amelie looked his costume up and down.

"Well, Gabriel, if nothing else, you have reasonably good taste in fashion. It's exactly how you'd expect a butterfly-themed villain would look."

"I think he looks like a pimp," Félix said.

Nathalie stifled a laugh.

"Listen here, you spoiled rotten -"

"Don't talk to him that way," Amelie interrupted, "At least my Félix is loyal. He's the perfect example of the prestige that is Graham de Vanily. He's already attending university classes."

"As much as I'd love to stay here and listen to you boast and brag about your bratty son, we have work to do."

He cupped his hands together. A crackle of dark electricity formed between them. Now a large black and purple Akuma was resting in his palm. Amelie looked at the Akuma, and then stretched out her hand. The Akuma flew over and possessed her ring.

"The power to wipe memories, as you so kindly requested," Le Papillon said, "I assume you've thought of a name?"

"Just call me Oblivio. You can save whatever speech you give the other victims. I know what to do."

"Mother Dear, I just thought of something."

"What is it, Félix, my love?"

"Is wiping the target's memories all you can do? Apart from the usual speed and strength, do you have any other offensive capabilities?"

No one said anything.

"Well, then I suggest you use the Peacock to make a Sentimonster to assist in taking out the heroes."

"An excellent idea. I assume that's your department?" she asked, looking at Nathalie.

She nodded, "Transformez-moi."

"My goodness, Nathalie. You look even better than Gabriel."

"Thank you," she replied, "But I am Mayura. Optigami, check and see if the coast is clear."

The Sentimonster flew to the ceiling and disappeared through the cracks. Mayura looked over at her tablet as the Sentimonster scanned the area.

"No one's around. I suggest we head out immediately."

"Agreed. Gabriel, unlike your other creations, I'd rather no one knows who I am."

"As tempting as it would be to watch them put you away, Amelie, I'll see to it that your features are obscured."

He snapped his fingers, and then Amelie's entire body was now a solid glowing shade of dark purple. Her ring morphed into an arm cannon.

"Let's get moving," she said in a deep and distorted voice.

Mayura's coat unfurled a large pair of wings. She grabbed Oblivio's hand and lifted her to the sunroof. Once they were on the roof, they looked around at the landscape.

"Where to?" Mayura asked.

"First the news station. It's the best way to get their attention. After that, we head for a place where I can easily hunt them down."

They quickly ran across the rooftops, and they were now on top of the news building.

"Wait here while I make the announcement, Mayura."

Oblivio made her way to the main broadcasting room, while everyone else began to evacuate the building. She swaggered over to the news desk.

"Hello, Nadja Chamack. I'm here because I want the Miraculous heroes to show up. You don't mind if I send them a message, do you?"

Before Nadja could reply, Oblivio shoved her to the side.

"You can say your little catch phrase now."

Nadja gulped, "This is Nadja Chamack with a special bulletin. Don't be bemused, it's just the news. After months of laying low, it seems Le Papillon is back on the offensive. The latest Akuma is in the studio with us now."

"Good job. Now get out."

Everyone ran for it, although Nadja stopped by the door to overhear.

"Hello, heroes. I am Oblivio. Who I really am isn't important. I'll use my power on everyone in the city unless you stop me. What is that power? Well, that would spoil the surprise, but I assure you, it will be devastating. Meet me at the Tour Montparnasse and we'll settle this."

She shoved the camera out of the way as she headed back to the roof. Nadja had already sprinted to the nearest elevator, and once in the lobby, she ran outside and told everyone they needed to get a news chopper ready. Oblivio began running through the city and was joined by Mayura.

"Quite the roomy building you've chosen for a showdown."

"I just need you to work some magic so I have an edge. Now how about a lift?"

Mayura grabbed Oblivio by the hand and began flying to the top of the tower. Once there, Mayura created an Amok and placed it in the ring turned arm cannon.

"Whatever you create, it has to be something fast that can maneuver indoors."

"I've got just the thing."

The Sentimonster formed into a large, scaly, bipedal body that was taller than Oblivio when it stood up straight. However, it mostly stood in a horizontal position. Its scales were black, save for a pair of blue stripes that started from the mouth, traveled down the sides of its body, and ended at its long tail. On its head, arms, and tail were white feathers. Its arms were long enough that the long claws on its four fingers touched the ground. On each foot was a six-inch claw that tapped the ground. Its slit eyes were an eerie gold color. Its mouth was full of sharp teeth, many of which stuck out even when its mouth was closed.

"Raptor, I am Mayura. You will follow the orders of Oblivio."

It growled in compliance.

"I'll be close by if you need me," Mayura said.

"We'll handle this," Oblivio replied, "You keep your eyes open."

Le Grand Paris

Chloé, Zoé, and Sabrina were all in Chloé's room helping each other with school work and wondering if they should watch a movie later. That's when the report stormed the air.

"After all this time," Chloé said, "That jerk has finally resurfaced."

"After all those gangsters," Sabrina said, "Le Papillon should be easy."

"Well, maybe he would be if he ever bothered to show his face," Zoé said.

The Liberty

"Go ahead, Luka," Juleka said, "And be careful."

"It's nice to know you care."

"Well, I've gotten used to you anyway."

Agreste mansion

"If I'm right, and it really is you, then I was wondering when you'd get back to whatever it is you're up to, father."

Marinette, Alya, Nino, and Kagami also made their way to the skyscraper. The heroes met up on a rooftop a good distance from the building.

"Why are we all the way over here?" Seiryū asked.

"I spotted Mayura, the woman who wields the Peacock Miraculous, running alongside this Oblivio person," Bateleur said.

"Which means we'd better keep an eye out for that weird butterfly Sentimonster trying to spy on us," Matou Noir said.

"Okay, before we go over there," Ladybird said, "We don't know what this Akuma can do, so we all need to look out for each other. Don't hesitate to retreat if necessary."

"No retreat," Apireine said, "No surrender."

"I'll be sure to keep an eye on her," Vipèrion said.

Apireine rolled her eyes.

"So are we gonna have to partner up to get to the top?" Zorrua asked.

"Well, it would take a while to go through the lobby," Tortank said.

"But that Akuma is waiting for us," Bateleur said, "If she sees us flying in, she'll start to attack."

"We'll just have to make sure she can't see us," Matou Noir said, "I call Ladybird as my flying partner."

"Yeah, you would," Apireine replied, "I guess I'll carry the music man here."

"I carried Zorrua once before, and he had a death grip," Bateleur said, "So this time I'll carry Tortank."

"I said I was sorry."

"I know, but I have to bring it up so everyone can have a chuckle over it."

"It seems that leaves me with the Fox," Seiryū said.

"Now that that's settled," Ladybird said, "Let's get close to the tower."

They were soon at the foot of the skyscraper.

"You do realize how tall this building is, right?" Apireine asked, "It's one of the tallest in France, and we have to carry someone."

"The sooner we do this, the sooner you can leave," Vipèrion said with a smile.

"Whatever. Just don't squirm or anything. Now how are we going to do this?"

He turned to face her and wrapped his arms around her neck.

"How about like this?"

She seemed to freeze up, but her wings started buzzing and she took to the air with him.

"I love how worked up she gets around him," Bateleur snickered, "Grab onto my back, Tortank."

"Awesome!"

"Please do not choke me while you're holding on," Seiryū said.

"I won't freak out this time, I promise," Zorrua replied.

"Ready to go, Chaton?"

"Ready when you are, My Lady."

The team quickly managed to fly to the top. They all stood on the edge of the building.

"The Akuma's waiting for us out in the open with…a dinosaur?" Tortank said.

"Again, we don't know what this Akuma can do, so be careful," Ladybird said.

"We won't know until we confront them," Matou Noir said.

The team moved towards the Akuma. Not too far away, they could hear the news helicopter closing in.

"Great, now that's just what we need," Ladybird thought.

"So glad you could make it."

"I don't know who you are, or what your game is," Ladybird said, "But we're going to stop you."

"So hostile, so confident, but that can always change."

Oblivio began firing her arm cannon, and the team scattered to avoid the shots. They also managed to block several shots by using their weapons. The dinosaur hadn't moved from its spot. It stood there, glaring at the heroes.

"Raptor, attack them and keep them away from me!"

The Sentimonster's eyes widened as it lunged at the nearest hero. It ran around, snapping at the heroes in an attempt to catch them off guard. Apireine tried getting closer to Oblivio, but Raptor turned to try and pounce on her.

"Can't fight for yourself, you off brand Samus Aran?" Apireine taunted.

Just as Raptor was about to snap at her again, Vipèrion grabbed it by the tail and pulled it back. Raptor turned to snap its jaws at the Snake. In the process, its tail slammed into Apireine. Oblivio took the opportunity to shoot her with her arm cannon.

"No!" Vipèrion cried as he tried to fend off the Sentimonster.

Bateleur swooped in and grabbed the Bee, taking her to the elevator.

"I think we'd better regroup," Ladybird said.

"Check on Apireine and come up with a better plan, yeah?" Matou Noir said.

"Right. Everyone, to the elevator!"

Everyone attempted to run for the elevator, but with the dinosaur Sentimonster in pursuit, it wasn't easy. Seiryū rushed over and kicked Raptor in the face. While it was reeling, Tortank threw her shield at the Sentimonster, causing it to get dangerously close to the edge building. It clawed at the ground to regain its footing. Oblivio was still raining shots from her cannon. Once everyone was inside, she stopped. She began charging up her cannon.

"If dozens of individual shots won't get them, then let's try one big shot."

She could hear the elevator going down, so she wrenched open the doors and jumped onto the top of the elevator. She opened the top to make sure she hit all of them. Right before she fired…

"Water Dragon!"

Seiryū fired a stream of water at Oblivio, sending her hurtling back up, but she still managed to fire her charged shot, one large enough to strike everyone in the elevator.

"Second Chance!"

Re-do

"Water Dragon!"

This time, as the charged shot came hurtling at the elevator, Vipèrion leapt out and took the entire blast. The impact sent him crashing back onto the roof of the elevator.

"Get him back in here," Ladybird said.

Oblivio managed to grab onto the edge of the floor where she came in. Raptor was soon there to help her up.

"That stupid snake must've used his power. Well, my power will eliminate him as a threat. Soon none of them will know anything about anything. That's when we strike. Let's take the stairs."

Meanwhile

The news crew in the chopper were broadcasting what they could.

"This is Clara Contard, live at the scene. The Akuma that was at the news station now has what looks like a dinosaur. The heroes have engaged the Akuma in battle. Apireine has been hit! Vipèrion has grabbed her and the heroes are retreating into a nearby elevator. The Akuma seems to be trying to follow them. No, the Akuma has been forced back onto the roof. Now the Akuma and its dinosaur are taking the stairs. Both parties are in the Tower. We'll have to land nearby until they come back out. No sense risking our lives to get inside."

Sabrina was worried, "Be careful, girls."

"Be careful Luka," Juleka said, "Don't do anything stupid."

"I wish I could do something to help," Socqueline said.

The Miraculous heroes

After a few seconds Vipèrion and Apireine woke up.

"Whoa, I don't remember going to a costume party," Apireine said.

"Maybe it's a convention," Vipèrion said.

"Are you guys okay?" Matou Noir asked.

"I feel fine, thanks," Apireine replied, "Do I know you?"

"Is there a reason we're all animal themed?" Vipèrion asked.

"Well, I guess now we know what Oblivio can do," Tortank said.

"I know this is going to sound crazy," Ladybird said, "But we're superheroes."

"Like the ones on TV and movies? Ridiculous! Utterly ridiculous!"

"So you don't recognize me?" Bateleur asked.

"I think I'd remember a woman dressed as a bird. Can you actually fly with those wings, or are they for decoration?"

"I can fly, and so can you."

"Huh? Oh, hey, look at that. I have wings. So from the colors and such, I guess I'm a bee? What about you, harp guy?"

Vipèrion looked himself over, "I think I'm a snake. Also, this harp is actually called a lyre."

"He would remember that," Zorrua said.

"Being a musician is in his blood, after all," Tortank said.

"I'm a musician? That seems like something I ought to remember. Are we all friends?"

"Absolutely we are," Ladybird said, "We're the Miraculous heroes. Your name is Vipèrion."

"That sounds pretty catchy. What about her?"

"It's not something too simple like Honey Bee or Queen Bee or something like that, is it?"

"No, your name is Apireine," Bateleur explained.

"Apireine…wait, that's just Queen Bee in another language."

"It was your idea."

"Oh, well if it was my idea, then it's clearly a good one."

"Some things never change, do they?"

"What do you mean?"

"I mean you're good at coming up with ideas."

"Oh, so you're saying I'm smart? What am I saying? Of course I am."

"Are we sure she's lost her memory?" Seiryū asked.

"So you're a snake, huh?" Apireine asked, "You're pretty handsome."

"She'd never say that out loud," Bateleur said, "Well, not yet anyway."

"You're quite the beautiful bee yourself," Vipèrion said.

"Okay, this is getting weird," Ladybird said, "We should find another spot to hide until we come up with some better strategy."

"Yeah, before that dinosaur finds us," Matou Noir said.

"I'm sorry, but did you just say dinosaur?" Apireine asked.

"Yes, there's a supervillain after us that can make you forget everything, and they have an attack dinosaur."

"...and you're sure this isn't a joke?"

"I'm afraid not," Tortank said, "Maybe we'd better leave them in the nearest restroom or something."

"No sign of them yet," Seiryū said.

"There's the restroom over there," Zorrua said.

The group pulled along the two amnesiac heroes and went into the restroom.

"Okay, we'll come back as soon as we can to get you two," Ladybird said.

"Wait, before you go, what are your names?" Apireine asked, "What if something happens and you lose your memory?"

"That's actually a good point."

"Of course it is! I'm the one that made it."

She rolled her eyes, "I'm Ladybird, and these are Matou Noir, Zorrua, Tortank, Bateleur, and Seiryū."

"Please stay here until we call you," Matou Noir said.

The others left, leaving Apireine and Vipèrion alone.

"Does this mask come off?" she asked.

"I don't think so. It must be magic or something."

"If we're superheroes, we must have secret identities."

"Seems pointless right now when we don't know who we are."

"I wonder if we're all friends outside our costumes."

"Something tells me we are. Maybe it's just instinct, but I get the feeling everyone on this team knows each other."

"So you're smart and handsome."

"You flatter me, Queenie."

"It's not flattery if it's true."

Out in the main area, the heroes were on the lookout for Oblivio and her Sentimonster.

"I wonder who this Akuma could be," Ladybird said aloud, mostly to herself.

"Someone with a grudge, it seems like," Matou Noir said.

"That could be any of the criminals we've helped put away lately," Zorrua said.

"I don't think so," Tortank said, "If it was one of the gang leaders, the only way they'd truly get satisfaction out of defeating us is by letting us know who they are first."

"So it's someone who doesn't like us, but also doesn't want us to know who they are," Bateleur said, "That's a tad suspicious."

"Well, you can eliminate any of the previous Akuma targets," Seiryū said, "They were all akumatized unwillingly, except perhaps for Audrey, but she falls into the same camp as the crime gang. She wants everyone to know who she is when she does anything."

A loud clicking noise was now heading in their direction.

"We'll have to put this conversation on hold," Ladybird said.

Raptor came barreling around the corner. It leapt towards the nearest hero, but Tortank threw her shield at its face, knocking it back. Before it could recover, Seiryū jumped on top of it and stabbed it with her sword. Raptor began thrashing about in an attempt to throw her off its back.

"I don't know how much that'll affect something that's technically not alive," Ladybird said.

"Seems like it's just making it mad," Zorrua said.

"Incoming!" Noir shouted.

Oblivio began firing at them again. Tortank ran around to the other side of the area, and once she was in a good spot, she threw her shield at the Akuma. The impact knocked Oblivio over, but as Tortank went to retrieve her shield, Oblivio managed to hit her. Zorrua ran over and dragged her out of the way. Oblivio leapt back up and hit Zorrua with a blast as well.

The restroom

"I hate sitting in here doing nothing," Apireine said.

"How much can we help when we can't remember anything?" Vipèrion asked.

"I don't need to remember who I am and what I can do to take action. You can either follow me or stay here."

"I could never stay here knowing you were out there, Queenie."

Apireine stuck her head out the door and saw the chaos occurring in the main area.

"It looks like two of our teammates are down. We need to get them somewhere safe."

"We can't go out there without a plan. We could get hit again. Then we're back where we started."

"Okay, give me a second."

She looked around and observed Ladybird deflecting cannon blasts by spinning her yo-yo.

"If the ladybug girl can spin her yo-yo to protect herself, I'm sure I can use this thing on my belt. It looks like a spinning top."

"A toy is supposed to be your weapon?"

"This whole ordeal is pretty strange, so no sense in ruling anything out."

"I agree."

Meanwhile, Oblivio was focusing her attacks on Ladybird and Matou Noir, but she then fired a charged shot at Seiryū, knocking her off the Sentimonser. Before Raptor could retaliate, Ladybird wrapped her yo-yo around its jaws.

"If I can keep this dinosaur in front of me," she thought, "I can avoid getting hit. I doubt her memory wipe shots affect a Sentimonster."

Matou Noir extended his staff to keep the Sentimonster from reaching Ladybird with its long arms.

"We'd better move to another spot and regroup, My Lady."

"Okay, we need to get the others out of here first."

That's when she saw Apireine and Vipèrion running over.

"What are you doing here?!"

"Oh, stop yelling and tell us where to go. We'll get these guys on the floor."

"Get them into that stairwell," Bateleur said, "I'll distract the Akuma."

Apireine grabbed Tortank, while Vipèrion grabbed Zorrua.

"I need to get Seiryū," Noir said, "Let's get rid of this dinosaur."

Ladybird flew over to the edge of the railing and pulled hard on her yo-yo. Matou Noir began shoving with his staff, and together they knocked the dinosaur Sentimonster over the side, causing it to fall to the floor below. With the dinosaur temporarily out of the way, Matou Noir ran over and dragged Seiryū into the stairwell. Ladybird wrapped her yo-yo around Oblivio and yanked her down to the lower level.

"Let's move!"

She and Bateleur hurried after the others.

"These stupid heroes are more annoying than I thought," Oblivio said, "Raptor! Let's split up and corner them. I'll take the stairs. You go down the escalator."

Raptor snorted in response as it ran down the nearest escalator. The heroes, meanwhile, had found another restroom to hide in. The three that had been hit were not waking up.

"Are we at a costume party?" Zorrua asked.

"Perhaps it's a convention," Seiryū said.

"Déjà vu, huh, serpent boy?" Apierein said, nudging Vipèrion.

"Excuse me," Tortank said, tapping Zorrua on his shoulder, "Don't I know you?"

"No, I don't…uh…I..that is…"

Zorrua was staring at her with his mouth open. Tortank looked around.

"What's the matter? Do I have something on my face, besides this mask, that is?"

"Even with his memory wiped," Ladybird thought, "He's falling for her all over again."

"Oh, no, you look…g-g-great…gorgeous even," Zorrua stammered.

"Are you always this articulate?" Tortank asked, fluttering her eyelashes.

"Oh, uh, sorry. My name is…I can't remember."

"Huh, that's funny. I can't remember my name either."

"You're Tortank, and you're Zorrua," Ladybird said.

"Oh, nice to meet you, handsome," Tortank said with a wink.

Zorrua blushed, "The pleasure's all mine, beautiful."

"Aren't you a sweet talker?"

"I hate to interrupt," Matou Noir said, "But we're kind of in the middle of something. We're not just wearing costumes. We're real life superheroes."

"Seriously?" Zorrua said.

"Really?!" Tortank exclaimed, "That's awesome!"

"That does sound fantastic. In more ways than one," Seiryū said, looking at her costume, "I'm guessing my name is Seiryū."

"How did you know?" Bateleur asked.

"I can tell from the design of my suit that I'm a dragon. The shade of blue cements it."

"Wow, you're good," Noir said.

"Arigatō."

"Hey, what about a thank you?" Apireine asked.

"I told you to stay put," Ladybird said, "But a part of me knew that regardless of your missing memories, you're not the kind of person to take orders. Besides, you did end up being helpful. So fine, thank you."

Apireine now had a smug look on her face.

"Take it easy, Queenie," Vipèrion said, "We're all on the same team, you know."

"Pouah! You're lucky you're cute."

"Okay, moving on," Noir said, "I think you'd better use your Lucky Charm, My Lady. Only the three of us still have our memories. I'm sure whatever you make will fix this quickly."

"Good idea. Lucky Charm!"

"Wow!" Tortank exclaimed, "Real magic!"

"How the heck is duct tape supposed to help us?" Apireine asked.

"Obviously we use it to cover the blaster so it can't be used against us," Ladybird explained, "While Oblivio is busy with that, and the Sentimonster is also distracted, Matou Noir will use his power on the weapon. That has to be where the Akuma is hiding."

"The what now?"

"Akuma means demon or devil in Japanese," Seiryū said.

"That's a pretty good description," Ladybird replied, "In this case, it looks like a purple and black butterfly. It gives the villain their powers."

"Her and that dinosaur Sentimonster make for a nasty pair," Noir said.

"If we can get them separated, we'd have a better chance to pin down Oblivio."

"In other words, someone needs to be the bait."

"I'm afraid so, Chaton."

"Whoa, wait a minute," Tortank said, "This person we're fighting has a dinosaur?"

"Basically, yes."

"What kind?"

"Uh, I'm not really good with names."

"Especially since it's not a real dinosaur," Noir said, "It's an artificial lifeform."

"But for the best approximation," Bateleur said, "The Akuma called it Raptor, and that's what it looks like, a very big raptor."

"Oh, you mean a dromaeosaurid," Tortank replied, "Those things were fast, but it's the velhipto that everyone remembers."

"The what?" Zorrua asked.

"That's what they call the big toe claws on their feet."

"Zoology must be ingrained into the very fiber of her being," Ladybird thought, "I wonder if she still remembers how to cook?"

"Yeah, I think we've all seen enough movies to get an idea," Zorrua continued, "Even if they're not entirely accurate. At least I'm sure we have."

"Either way, why would just one of us need to lure it away? If this thing is as fast and deadly as the real thing, why not do it like a relay?"

"One person lures it away, and when they start to get tired, they hide, and then someone else gets its attention. Is that what you mean?"

"Precisely that, Fox Boy."

"Okay, then," Ladybird said, "I think I've got an idea. Zorrua, you're pretty fast, right?"

"Something's going to chase after me? Believe me, I'll be fast…whether I like it or not."

"Right then, you go first and distract the Raptor. Lure it to the other side of the building. When you get tired, hide and use your special power to distract the Raptor."

"I have a special power?"

"You should be able to check your weapon for a quick rundown, but, and don't repeat it until you're ready, your power is called Mirage. It creates an illusion of whatever you want. You think about it and it happens."

"That does sound useful."

"While the Sentimonster, the dinosaur that is, is distracted by your illusion, you message someone to take your spot."

"I'll go next," Seiryū said, "I'm a fast runner."

"That's fine. With your power to turn into wind, water, or lightning, you can get away safely."

"My, I am impressive."

"Who's going after her?"

"I'll volunteer," Vipèrion said.

"No, I think I'll need you with us. If me or Matou Noir gets hit by her amnesia ray, you'll have to get us out of there. Bateleur, your wings will be more useful in an open space."

"I guess that leaves me then," Apireine said, "My wings aren't nearly as cumbersome."

"Okay, good. You lead that Raptor to the roof. Once you get there, you can fly out of reach. That's when we'll need you, Tortank. Your power will create a force field around the Raptor, thus taking it out of the fight. Oblivio will be too busy fighting me and Minou to be able to stop you. If anything should happen to me, Matou Noir, or Bateleur, well, you all know the plan now. Good luck, everyone."

As soon as Ladybird opened the door of the restroom, Raptor was waiting on the other side. It was about to attack, but, almost out of instinct, Tortank lobbed her shield at it, sending it reeling back. As the Sentimonster picked itself up, Zorrua rushed forward.

"Mirage!"

Raptor looked back at the restroom. It was now empty, and Zorrua was the only hero standing there. The creature was clearly still curious, so it began to walk towards the restroom door. That's when Zorrua smacked it in the eye with his flute, causing it to shriek. As it turned its attention to Zorrua, it growled and angrily tapped its toe claws, but the Fox was already running away as fast as he could. Raptor snarled and began its pursuit. Back in the restroom…

"That dinosaur had us dead to rights," Tortank said, "Why did it chase the Fox when we were all right here?"

"You heard him," Noir said, "He already used his special power of illusion. He must've made it look like the restroom was empty so that the Sentimonster would chase him."

"Very quick thinking," Seiryū said, "And very brave."

"Downright courageous," Tortank said, a sad look on her face.

"In which case," Seiryū continued, "I must help him as soon as possible. You said I can turn into wind? In that case, I can use the air vents to keep tabs on him."

"Just pick which element you want to turn into, followed by the word dragon," Noir explained.

She nodded, "Wind Dragon!"

She quickly disappeared into the nearest vent. That's when Matou Noir noticed a familiar pair of eyes.

"We're being watched. Oblivio should be here soon."

"Let's move out, team," Ladybird said.

Apireine was fiddling with her trompo, "Huh, so there is a manual in here."

"Heads up!" Noir shouted.

"We need to get them back onto the roof," Ladybird said, "Tortank, if the elevator works, take it to the roof and wait there. If it doesn't work, take the stairs."

"Copy that."

While Tortank ran off to find the elevator, Vipèrion charged ahead to bat away the ray gun blasts with his lyre. Oblivio ran forward to confront him. The Akuma was taking swipes at the Snake, but he was very agile.

"How can you still be so adept? Your memory is gone. How do you know what these people tell you is true? How do you know I'm not the victim here? How can you be sure of anything?"

Vipèrion managed to hit Oblivio in the face with his lyre, "Instinct."

While Bateleur and Apireine waited for an opening…

"You really don't remember me?" Bateleur asked.

"Nope. Sorry."

"Well, in case I lose my memory, I want you to know this. Let's keep it between us though. We're sisters."

Apireine looked skeptical, "We don't look anything alike."

"It's part of the disguise."

"Oh, I get it. So…are we close?"

"We'd do anything for each other. Excuse me."

Bateleur flew over to kick Oblivio in the chest. In retaliation, Oblivio began firing erratically. When that didn't work, the Akuma once again charged up a shot and fired. The blast covered a wide area, and managed to hit Bateleur. Apireine rushed over to pick her up and get her away.

"Not so fast, little bee," Oblivio said, "Your power is too much of a risk."

Meanwhile…

Zorrua was running through office areas as Raptor barrelled through any desks and chairs that were in its way. He even tried running on all fours, but so did the Sentimonster. He then ran through some narrow hallways, which proved to be more tricky for Raptor. It kept slamming into the walls before turning.

"Oh boy, how long have I been running?"

"Long enough, my friend," Seiryū said, regaining her form, "You find someplace to hide and catch your breath. I'll take it from here."

Just then, Raptor came charging at them. Seiryū got its attention by slicing at it with her sword. She ran away as it snapped at her and began its pursuit. Zorrua, meanwhile, headed for the elevator to reach the roof.

Main fight

Oblivio definitely wasn't expecting Apireine to dive at her legs and tackle her to the ground. Before the Akuma could retaliate, Apireine jumped back up and kicked her in the head. While Oblivio staggered, the Bee heroine grabbed Bateleur and took her somewhere safe, while Vipèrion made sure to bat away any blasts from the arm cannon. Ladybird and Matou Noir charged at the Akuma, spinning their respective weapons to block the amnesia ray. Oblivio was getting fed up.

"You brats have no idea how peeved I am."

Meanwhile…

Tortank hid off to the side as she heard the elevator coming up. To her surprise, out came Zorrua. He was still panting as he walked out.

"Are you okay?"

"Huh?! Oh, it's you. Yeah, but I didn't know I was going to get a workout today."

"You're not hurt, are you?"

"No, I'm fine. I'm sure someone once said that a person shouldn't have to run unless they're being chased. Well…"

She gave him a hug.

"What was that for?"

"That took a lot of guts, Fox Boy. You obviously have a lot of courage."

"Oh, uh, thanks," he stood up straighter, "Well, you know, all in a day's work."

She pulled him close and kissed him. At first he was surprised, but he quickly reciprocated.

"Not that I'm complaining, but what was that for?"

"I don't know why, but something inside me really wanted to do that. I probably shouldn't have. I mean, we're at work right now. Plus with our memories wiped, we technically don't know each other…anymore…maybe?"

He pulled her into another kiss. The next building over, Mayura could see them.

She sighed, "If there was ever any clue that they're teenagers…pouah."

Meanwhile again…

In the nearest restroom, Apireine was lightly slapping Bateleur in the face.

"Come on, wake up. Please wake up!"

Bateleur shook her head and awoke.

"What happened? Where am I? Who am I? Who are you?"

"You were knocked out, and I'm guessing you also lost your memories. You're in a public restroom. Your name is Bateleur. My name's Apireine…oh, and this is Vipèrion."

"Oh…are we at some kind of party?"

"I'm afraid not," Vipèrion said, "We're in the middle of a fight. There's a supervillain outside that makes us forget everything."

"A supervillain? Wait, are you saying these costumes aren't just for show? We're superheroes?"

"That's correct," Apireine said, "And we need to rejoin the fight."

"Fight?! I apparently just lost my memory. How am I supposed to fight?"

"Just use your instincts," Vipèrion replied.

"Right now my instincts are telling me to hide!"

"Don't worry," Apireine said, "I've got your back."

"That's not very reassuring considering I don't know anything about you apart from your name."

Apireine put a hand on her shoulder, "Listen, I'm sure you're a little scared, but there's something you told me before you lost your memory that was very important."

"I did? What was that?"

"We're sisters."

"But we don't look alike."

"It's part of the disguise."

"Oh, yeah, that makes sense. Are we…close?"

"Let me put it this way. When that evil jerk zapped you with their amnesia ray, it took everything I had to not beat them within an inch of their life."

"...really?"

"Look, we may not remember anything about each other, but if we're family, then that already creates a special connection. We watch each other's backs."

Bateleur began to shed a few tears.

"Are you okay? You're crying."

She wiped her tears away, "I am? I don't know why."

"Perhaps part of you deep down inside remembers something," Vipèrion said.

"Then it must be true," Bateleur said, "We are sisters. I'll go out there and help if you will."

"That's the spirit," Apireine said, "If we work together, we can stop that thing outside. Ready to go, handsome?"

"I'll lead the charge, beautiful," Vipèrion said.

"I almost forgot. I've got to relieve Dragon Girl. That dinosaur is still chasing her. I have to lead it to the roof."

"This person we're fighting has a dinosaur as well?"

"Yeah, but I'm going to take it out of the equation. You'll keep an eye on her while I'm gone won't you, M. Vipère?"

"Two eyes, Mlle. Abeille."

Apireine gave Bateleur a hug, "I'll be back as soon as I can."

She peeked out the door. Ladybird and Matou Noir were still trying to get a good hit on the Akuma.

"I hate not being able to fight, but I've got a job to do."

She tested her wings and started to rise from the ground.

"Well, that was easy. Time to get to work."

She then ran to the stairwell. Vipèrion peeked out to check the surroundings.

"Looks like she made it. Come on, Mlle. Aigle, those two need our help."

"I'll do my best," Bateleur replied.

"These horrible little urchins keep blocking my attacks," Oblivio thought, "But what if…?"

Matou Noir got close to Ladybird.

"This Akuma isn't going to follow us to the roof until they're sure we can't fight back," he whispered.

"Everyone else knows the plan, Minou. We might have to give this Akuma what they want."

"Namely us?"

"I'm afraid so."

"Heroes," Oblivio said, "We're at an impasse. It seems I have no choice but to surrender."

Ladybird noticed Bateleur and Vipèrion running to join them. She motioned for them to stop.

"Very well, whoever you are. We accept."

"Yeah, thanks for making this easier," Noir said.

The duo walked towards the Akuma. Matou Noir looked back at them and winked.

"What are they doing?" Bateleur whispered to Vipèrion.

He tilted his head, "It's all part of the plan. Get ready to grab them."

Oblivio held her arm cannon behind her back as she charged it up. When the duo got close enough, she quickly fired a blast large enough to strike them both.

"Pathetic," Oblivio said as she walked towards their unconscious bodies.

Bateleur ran forward to intercept the Akuma.

"Ready for another zap, little birdy?"

Bateleur said nothing, just began to flap her large wings faster and faster. A strong wind was whipped up, and Oblivio was sent flying over the nearest railing. As soon as they heard her hit the ground, Bateleur and Vipèrion grabbed their teammates and went to the stairwell.

"What now?" Bateleur asked.

"Let's go up a level and head for the restroom," Vipèrion replied.

Meanwhile meanwhile…

Seiryū was still running from the ravenous Sentimonster.

"Water Dragon!"

Nothing happened.

"It seems I've used that power and don't remember doing so. Very well then. Time for Plan B."

She looked around for a water fountain. She used her sword to slice open the water pipes, and then put on a burst of speed. Raptor lost its footing on the now slippery floor. Another narrow hallway, and Raptor was constantly slamming into walls and slipping on the smooth floor. Now, though, they entered an open area, and Raptor took advantage of this by circling around to attack from the front. Seiryū stood her ground and readied her sword. Just as the Sentimonster was about to pounce on her, Apireine flew into the room and delivered a kick to the head of the beast. The creature was thrown off balance, so the girls worked together to shoe it into the next room and slam the door shut. The Sentimonster was immediately slamming itself against the door.

"That won't hold it for long," Apireine said, "Get back to our fearless leaders. I'll finish up here and lead this thing to the roof."

Seiryū bowed, "Thank you, friend. Lightning Dragon!"

She turned into a bolt of lightning and went into the nearest vent. At that moment, Raptor broke down the door. Apireine flew just out of reach.

"Come and get me, ugly!"

Raptor began leaping into the air to snap at her, but she flew off towards the stairwell.

"Catch me if you can, you big lizard!"

The faceoff

Vipèrion was splashing water onto the faces of the main duo. Their eyes slowly opened.

"Whoa, nice costumes," Noir said, "Did you make them yourselves? Are we at a party?"

"Where am I?" Ladybird asked, "Who am I?"

"Whoever you are, you're very pretty, if I may say."

"Oh, well, thank you, uh…M. Chat."

"His name is Matou Noir, actually," Vipèrion said, "And your name is Ladybird."

"Oh, thanks. Do I know you?"

"Vipèrion is my name, and this is Bateleur. We're all teammates."

"Oh, so we're a sports team?" Noir asked.

"This is going to sound crazy, but we're superheroes."

"We are?" they both said.

"That's amazing!" Noir exclaimed.

"That's impossible!" Ladybird cried, "You're joking, right?"

"I know it sounds hard to believe," Vipèrion said.

"Hard? That's an understatement! I'm not a superhero. I could never do anything like that."

"Why not? You came up with a plan and everything."

She scoffed, "I may not know who I really am, but I know enough to know I could never do any of that superhero stuff. I've never even seen any of the movies or read any of the comic books…at least not that I can recall."

"I think you can do it," Noir said.

"Oh, do you? You can't even remember who I am. How do you know?"

"Maybe it's just a guess, but there's something about you. You seem very…special. Still, like you said, maybe I'm wrong."

"Maybe it's instinct," Vipèrion said.

"Is that your go-to word now, Snake Man?" Bateleur asked.

"If you have anything else to add, feel free."

She put a hand on Ladybird's shoulder.

"Look, I may not remember everything. None of us do. From what I've seen, you probably aren't the strongest or the smartest, but you really did come up with a plan. I think you might just be the bravest of us all."

"Me? How could I possibly be brave when I feel like hiding in here?"

"I'm paraphrasing a bit, but someone once said that true bravery is being afraid and going to do what you need to anyway."

"So…I really came up with a plan to fix everything?"

"Absolutely. Even losing your memory was part of the plan."

"Sounds like you're pretty clever to me," Noir said.

"On the other hand," Vipèrion said, "We don't want to force you to do anything. If you don't think you can handle it, you should just stay here until someone comes to get you."

"No," Ladybird immediately said, "Knowing that I stood by when I could've done something…I couldn't live with that."

"Somehow I knew you'd say that," he replied with a smile.

"You're sure losing my memory was part of the plan?"

"Without a doubt."

"Okay, I believe you, but…I'm not the only one who finds waking up with no memory scary, am I?"

Bateleur shook her head, "No, you're just the first to admit it."

Ladybird took a few breaths, "You'll all help me though, right?"

"We're not a team for nothing," Bateleur said.

"Okay…so what's the plan?"

The Chase

Apireine kept flying up the stairwell, while Raptor quickly ran up the stairs.

"This thing sure is determined. I'm flying and yet it seems to be keeping up."

She finally reached the top, and as soon as she went through the door, the Sentimonster broke through to continue its pursuit. It took a flying leap at the heroine.

"Shell-ter!"

Raptor slammed head first into the barrier. It began to kick and claw at the force field in an attempt to escape.

"Perfect timing, Mlle. Tortue."

"Thanks, Bee Girl. What should we do now?"

"The bug and the cat will be here soon enough with that cannon-wielding jerk. We need to give them time."

"I think she's right," Zorrua said, "Plus what if that memory-wiping person calls for backup? We can keep watch up here."

"Well said, M. Renard," Apireine said with a nod.

Mayura was watching the whole thing.

"They captured my Sentimonster. If push comes to shove, I'll just have to make another. I'd better think of a good one."

The news crew

"Can you get a good shot from this far away?"

"It's good enough, I guess, Clara."

"No point wasting fuel when only three of the heroes are on the roof."

She cleared her throat to continue.

"Clara Contard, back with you. So far, only three of the heroes have returned to the roof of the Tower. They've managed to capture the dinosaur monster in a force field."

The faceoff

Just as the four heroes were about to exit the restroom, they were joined by Seiryū as she exited the vent and resumed a corporeal form.

Ladybird jumped, "Where did you come from?"

"Everything's going according to plan, I trust?"

"I guess she's part of the team, too?" Noir asked.

"Don't tell me they lost their memories," Seiryū said.

"Normally I'd say okay, I won't tell you, but this is no time for levity," Bateleur said, "They let themselves be hit. Losing their memories was part of the plan."

"That sounds rather unorthodox, but if it works," Seiryū shrugged.

"We need to get that…thing back to the roof so we can all properly team up and take it down," Vipèrion explained, "You two are all caught up on what you can do, right?"

"Well, I've still got this ladybug-colored tape."

"I do my thing once the…uh…"

"Akuma," Seiryū said.

"Yeah, that. Once they're incapacitated, I use my Cata - I mean, my destruction power."

"This Akuma seems to want you two the most," Vipèrion said, "So you're the bait. Everybody ready?"

"Ready as we'll ever be, I guess," Ladybird said.

Matou Noir suddenly spun around.

"What's the matter?" Vipèrion asked.

"I had this feeling like we were being watched."

"I have no doubt this villain has a spy somewhere," Seiryū said, "This is clearly a big building and this Akuma can't possibly be everywhere."

"All the more reason to move," Bateleur said.

The five heroes filed out, and Oblivio seemed to drop from the ceiling to confront them.

"Why not make this easy on yourselves? Let's make a deal."

No one said anything.

"You give me your Miraculous, and -"

"Our what now?" Noir asked.

The Akuma growled, "The magical trinkets that give you your powers. Your earrings, your ring, and so on. You give me those, and I'll give you back your memories. Aren't those more important? Aren't those far more precious?"

The heroes looked at each other for a few seconds. They then seemed to be reaching for their respective Miraculous. In a flash, Matou Noir pulled out his staff and extended it into Oblivio, sending the Akuma flying backwards. The heroes then sprinted towards the stairwell.

Oblivio began punching any nearby object.

"Why do they have to make this so difficult?!"

"Oblivio, come in."

"What is it, Mayura?"

"They're all convening on the roof. Your Sentimonster is trapped under the Turtle's force field."

"I'm taking the elevator. They've got nowhere else to go."

"But you're outnumbered."

"Then make me a new Sentimonster! As soon as I get up there, I'll simply wipe their memories again."

Mayura sighed, "Okay, let me think."

She looked over at the dinosaur Sentimonster still frantically trying to break through the force field. She snapped her fingers to destroy it. In the elevator, Oblivio barely registered when a feather popped out of her cannon, purified, and floated to the ground. Mayura now took another feather from her fan and made a new Amok. This time she merged it with her fan. This new Sentimonster was a 10ft indigo-colored moth with a large stinger.

"Saturniid, I am Mayura. You will obey my every command."

It twitched its antennae in response.

"There…and now we wait."

The five heroes were now on the roof with the others.

"Together again, huh?" Apireine said.

"What happened to that dinosaur?" Seiryū asked.

"I trapped it under the force field, but right before you came out, it just faded away," Tortank answered.

"Where's the creepy memory wiping person?" Zorrua asked.

"I think they took the elevator," Matou Noir said.

"Well then we'd better get ready," Ladybird said.

Right as she said that, they all heard the ding of the elevator. Once the doors opened, Oblivio came out with her cannon blazing.

"When I'm through with you," the Akuma sneered, "You won't even have a trace of cognitive abilities!"

Everyone was scattered about and doing everything they could to block or avoid her attacks.

The news crew

"There they are!" Clara said, "Let's get back in the air."

The battle

Seiryū inched closer, using her sword to deflect the blasts.

"Stop firing and fight me fair and square, you fiend."

"That's funny, but I'm not so noble."

Tortank's shield suddenly struck the Akuma in the chest.

"You miserable little…"

Before she could fire, Zorrua jumped over and grabbed her cannon arm.

"Let go you stupid -"

Vipèrion slid his lyre onto her free hand and pulled back on her arm.

"You think this will stop me?!"

Tortank ducked behind the Akuma's legs, while Bateleur tackled her, causing the villain to fall over. Bateleur then pinned down one leg, while Seiryū pinned down the other.

"Get off me, you lower class -"

Tortank performed an elbow drop on Oblivio's abs.

"I knew it," Mayura grumbled, "Saturniid, attack the heroes!"

The great moth flew over to the Tower.

Apireine was about to strike, "Now it's my turn to - whoa! What is that?!"

Saturniid was now flying stinger first at the heroes. Apireine ducked out of the way, but the Sentimonster circled back. Ladybird was concentrating on using her duct tape to cover the Akuma's arm cannon.

"Look out, Ladybird!" Noir called out.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the moth heading towards her.

The news crew

"Clara Contard, back in the air. All the heroes are back on the roof and engaging the Akuma. The dinosaur is gone, but it seems they now have what appears to be a gigantic moth."

The fight

Ladybird managed to roll out of the way. Bateleur flew into the air and dive bombed the large moth, pinning it to the ground. Oblivio took the opportunity to kick Seiryū in the head and struggle harder. Just then, Mayura finally arrived.

"What do you want, bird lady?" Apireine demanded.

"I am Mayura, and that is Saturniid. Oblivio wants you out of the way, and I'm here to make sure of that."

Seiryū immediately got back up and attempted to strike the Peacock with her sword. Mayura was quick to defend with a deflection of her hand fan. Matou Noir used his staff to try and deal a blow, but Mayura seemed to easily dodge every hit.

The news crew

"It looks like a new opponent has arrived. It seems to be a woman clad in blue and fighting with…a hand fan?"

The showdown

"I can't hold this giant moth forever," Bateleur said.

Tortank rushed over to help her keep it from getting away.

"Never mind the Akuma," Ladybird said, "The peafowl and the moth monster are more important."

Zorrua went to help keep the moth Sentimonster grounded, while Vipèrion joined the fight against Mayura.

"How dare you think someone like me is beneath you?!" Oblivio shrieked, "I'll wipe out everyone's memories for good!"

She charged her cannon, but when she tried to fire, nothing happened.

"What the…? Duct tape?!"

She began attempting to tear it off her cannon.

"Venom!"

Oblivio snarled as she became paralyzed. Apireine and Ladybird both charged at Mayura. The Peacock easily backflipped out of their reach.

"Cataclysm!"

Matou Noir used his power on the arm cannon, crumbling it, and causing the Akuma to emerge. Before the transformation could fade, Mayura ran past the heroes and grabbed Oblivio. Optigami had positioned itself on the former Akuma's face so that they couldn't get a good look at who was under there.

"Don't let her get away!" Apireine cried.

Before they could pursue her, Mayura removed the points of her fan and threw them like daggers at the heroes. While they dodged, she flew away as fast as she could. The moth Sentimonster managed to get back up and began flapping its wings at the heroes to drive them back. Once Mayura was a good distance away, she snapped her fingers. Saturniid disappeared, just like Raptor before it.

"If we go now, we can probably find her," Apireine said.

"Wait!" Ladybird said.

"Wait? She attacked us! Why shouldn't we go after her?"

"Because we still don't have our memories back. Even if we did go after her now, we wouldn't recognize her."

"And with how fast she was going," Noir added, "We won't know which way she went."

"She could've crawled into the sewers for all we know," Tortank said.

Apireine begrudgingly nodded in agreement.

"So how do we get our memories back?" Zorrua asked.

"Me and M. Noir here have to combine our powers to fix everything," Ladybird said.

"Will we remember everything that happened?" Bateleur asked.

"I think we will," Seiryū said.

"I agree," Noir said, "I wouldn't make any sense to fix a memory wipe with another memory wipe. However, just in case…"

He went over to Ladybird and kissed her on the cheek.

"For being brave, My Lady," he said with a bow.

She kissed him on the cheek in return.

"What was that for?"

"It's only fair," she said.

"Oh, the heck with it!" Apireine said.

She grabbed Vipèrion and gave him a quick kiss on the lips.

"Wha…?"

"Because you're cute, Music Man," she said with a wink.

"Okay, can we get on with it?" Zorrua asked.

"Ready, Matou?" she asked, holding out her hand.

"Let's do this."

They shook hands, "Miraculous!"

The wave of energy swept across the area.

The news crew

"The bird woman has grabbed the Akuma and is making her escape. The giant moth is still attacking. No, wait, the moth has disappeared. It looks like the heroes are about to finally fix everything."

The heroes

No one said anything.

"Well?!" Apireine shouted, "Isn't anybody gonna say anything? I remember everything! When I see that pompous peafowl again, I'll let her have it!"

Bateleur hugged her, "It's good to have you back."

She rolled her eyes and returned the hug. When she noticed Vipèrion looking at her, she quickly looked the other way.

"I'm glad for that," Seiryū said, "I'd hate to forget something so soon after joining the team."

The news helicopter was now landing atop the Tower.

"Clara Contard here, about to get an interview with the heroes."

"A brief interview, please," Ladybird said, "It's been quite a ride."

"I'll handle this," Tortank said, "No, we don't know who the Akuma was. Did anyone here see their face?"

Everyone shook their heads.

"We do know that the peacock lady is named Mayura. The dinosaur and the giant moth are her creations. The fact that she fought alongside the Akuma proves she's working with Le Papillon."

"The stupid Akuma made us lose our memories, and now we have them back," Apireine added, "Now if you don't mind, we'd like to head home and relax. Adieu!"

Meanwhile, Mayura found the safest way back to the Agreste mansion.

Gabriel was smug, "How does it feel to fail, Amelie?"

"Let me see, my one failure compared to…how many times have you been made a fool?"

His smile vanished.

"Those so-called heroes are better than I thought. We'll need a more well thought out plan to put a stop to them. Nathalie, at least, had the sense to cover my face so that they wouldn't suspect anything. We need time to come up with a better plan."

"Very well. We'll talk about this later. You may go now."

"Go? Félix and I aren't going anywhere. It's too much of a risk. Sooner or later, Interpol will connect those weapons to me. We're staying right here. Otherwise, some of your secrets will become public."

Tomoe and Félix both snickered.

Gabriel growled, "Pick out any extra room you want. Just stay out of my way."

He stormed out of the lair, with Nathalie on his heels.

"I suppose I'd better get back home for now," Tomoe said, "However, I'm sure there will be many future visits."

Félix took her arm, "Let me escort you to the door, Tsurugi-san."

Just as they were all coming out of the atelier, Adrien and Placide came through the front door.

"Tsurugi-san? Aunt Amelie? What are you doing here?"

"I am merely here for a brief visit," Tomoe replied, "Farewell for now."

"Adrien, my dear," Amelie said, "Your cousin Félix and I will be staying here for a while. Won't that be fun?"

"I want my own room, Mother."

"Of course, Félix. Go pick out a nice one."

Amelie and Félix went upstairs, while Tomoe went out the door, with Placide following to give her a hand.

"Père, you said you never wanted to see Amelie and Félix ever again."

He sighed, "That was years ago, Adrien. Times change. Now go to your room."

As the weeks went by, Adrien barely even saw his aunt and cousin.

"There's more people in the mansion, and they're as rare to see as father himself."

At last, the day came for Adrien's birthday. As soon as it hit midnight, he received a text from Marinette.

Princesse: Joyeux Anniversaire, Mon Prince!

Prince: Merci beaucoup, Ma Princesse

Other texts soon followed.

Chlo: Happy Birthday, Adrikins!

Zo: Happy Birthday!

Nino: Happy Birthday, Mec!

Alya: Happy Birthday!

Kagami: Otanjōbiomedetō!

Sabrina: Happy Birthday!

Luka: Happy Birthday (Happy Birthday from me, too - Juleka)

Fu: Shēngrì kuàilè!

Adrien: Xièxiè

More texts from his other friends soon followed. He woke up the next day and looked at Marinette's text again. He smiled to himself as he got dressed. A small part of him hoped at least one person in the mansion, besides Placide, would at least wish him a happy birthday. Amelie and Félix were coming down the stairs.

"Ah, Adrien, there you are. Come to wish your cousin a happy birthday?"

"I didn't know -"

"You didn't know it's his birthday? Well, that's just like your father, not telling you. No matter. We're off to celebrate."

Félix roughly shoved Adrien out of the way. Adrien went into the atelier. Before he could say a word…

"I'm busy, Adrien."

Adrien turned around to leave.

"Oh, there is one thing."

"Yes, Père?"

"If you go out, wear something nicer."

Adrien speed walked back to his room and changed clothes. He then got a phone call.

"Hello?"

"Happy Birthday, Mec!"

Adrien smiled, "Thanks, Nino, I needed that."

"No one else remembered?"

"As per usual."

"I'll call everyone up. This is a special day, mec. As they say, today you are a man."

"Thanks again. There's someone on the other line."

"I'll call you back."

*Beep*

"Hello?"

"Buon compleanno, Mio Principe."

He chuckled, "Grazie mille, Mia Principessa. That's about all the Italian I know."

"Oh, it is not. We've been practicing."

"I'm still nowhere near as fluent as you, Mari."

"Anyway, I butted heads with Chloé over where we should take you. We agreed that I pick the place for lunch, and she picks the place for dinner. In between that time, we're hanging out at the Liberty."

"Works for me."

Most of the group met up for lunch, but absolutely everyone showed up at the Liberty. Kitty Section played a few songs, while everyone else danced. Tom stopped by briefly to drop off a birthday cake.

"Why not request a song, Adrien?" Marinette suggested, "It's your party, after all. Plus you are part of the band."

"Being with you and everyone else is all I need, Mari."

Adrien wandered off to a part of the ship that overlooked the water. Marinette and Chloé joined him.

"Are you okay?" Marinette asked.

"I'm betting your dad either forgot it was your birthday, or just didn't bother to say anything," Chloé said.

"Amelie and Félix have been staying over. They didn't say anything either."

"They're stuck up jerks, Adrikins. Who cares if they do or not?"

"It just would've been nice. Nathalie didn't even say anything."

"I'm sorry no one in your own house bothered to say anything," Marinette said, "All I can do is tell you that you have all of us. We care. I care."

He pulled both girls into a hug.

"Thank you, both."

"It's almost time to head out for dinner, Adrikins. How's about a nice little speech?"

He nodded as they headed back to the crowd. Adrien got back onto the stage.

"Thank you, everyone, for all the birthday wishes. The card you all signed was great. Although I'm a bit disappointed there was no money in it."

Everyone laughed.

"I'm glad to call you all my friends. I'm also proud to call you family."

"Encore!" came a voice.

"Master Fu?!"

"Hello, Adrien, and another happy birthday."

Fu stood up straight as Adrien rushed over to give him a hug.

"I thought it only fair to extend your well wishes in person. Now I believe you were going out for dinner? Go and enjoy."

"Thank you so much."

"Everyone, go to the hotel for the birthday dinner!" Chloé announced.

"See you there, Adrien," Zoé said.

"She always picks the hotel for dinner," Alya said, "I hope mom's prepared."

Later

"Another excellent dinner, Mme. Césaire. Now let's have a cheer for my beloved Adrikins!"

"HURRAY!"

"This concludes the party. Which means everyone has to leave as fast as possible. And no, I'm not joking! Other people have to use the dining room, you know!"

Soon, everyone was heading out through the lobby, with Adrien standing by the door.

"Goodbye. Thanks for coming. I really appreciate it. See you in school Monday. Be careful out there. I'll be sure to remember your birthdays. Marinette has them written down somewhere."

"Call it a force of habit," Marinette said.

Chloé and Adrien did the la bise.

"See you soon, Adrikins. Don't let those jerks in your house get you down."

"Yeah, mec," Nino said, "You can always talk to us."

"Anytime, anywhere," Luka added.

"Thanks, guys. Who needs a ride home?"

"I have mine, thank you," Kagami said.

"Me and Jules can use our bikes, thanks," Luka said.

"There's my ride," Sabrina said, "Bye Chloé, Zoé, and happy birthday again, Adrien."

"I'll take that ride," Nino said.

"Actually, Nino," Alya said, "Nora's coming to pick us up."

"Oh…goody."

"Don't let her intimidate you, Nino. There she is now. See you later, Adrien."

"See ya, mec."

"I guess that leaves me," Marinette said, "I'll accept that offer. I kinda have to since you picked me up to begin with."

The pair headed for the car.

"Do you really think he's okay?" Zoé asked.

"I'm sure there's a small part of him that's still sad, but he has to work it out himself," Chloé said, "We've done all we can."

They were soon at Marinette's house. Tom and Sabine were waiting outside.

"Happy Birthday, Adrien!" they said.

"We know we already baked you a cake," Tom said.

"However," Sabine said, "We know how much you love our sweets, so we also made you a few macarons to take home."

She handed the box to Marinette. Adrien tried not to cry as he gave Tom and Sabine a hug.

"Thank you so much. You have no idea…"

"It's all right, son," Tom said.

"We understand," Sabine added, "We'll leave you two to it. No eavesdropping, Tom."

"I wasn't going to -"

"Uh huh," she said, dragging him inside.

Marinette handed him the box, "Bonne nuit, Mon Prince."

He kissed her hand, "Bonne nuit, Ma Princesse. À bientôt."

Soon they were back at the mansion. Before they went inside, Placide pulled Adrien into a hug.

"Happy Birthday."

"You're the best, buddy. Hold onto the macarons until we're sure father isn't watching."

They walked in to find the mansion looking rather dark and gloomy. Nathalie came out of the kitchen.

"Everyone else is already in their room, I'm afraid."

"I should've known," Adrien replied, "Macaron, Nathalie?"

"Thank you."

Before she took it, though, she gave Adrien a somewhat awkward hug.

"I'm sorry about your father. Happy birthday, Adrien."

"Thanks, Nathalie."

"Good night."

Placide took a macaron and handed the rest back to Adrien. He went up to his room and found a comedy film to watch while he ate the rest of the contents of the box. Once he was finished and the movie ended. He transformed and went out. He ran around all the rooftops in no particular direction. He came to a stop at the top of the Eiffel Tower.

"Little kitty on a roof, all alone without his lady..."

He looked off in the direction of the bakery.

Later

Marinette wasn't feeling tired, so she was looking up a new article of clothing she could make Adrien.

"I gave him a scarf, and I kind of gave him a hat, so what next?"

*Knock knock knock*

"That sounds like it came from the balcony."

She headed up to take a look.

"Huh, no one here."

"Au contraire."

"Matou Noir? What are you doing here?"

"I just came by for a friendly chat. Did you know today's my birthday?"

"You don't say? Mine's not for a while, but my boyfriend just had a birthday."

"You have a boyfriend? Who's the lucky guy?"

"Promise not to tell anyone?"

"My lips are sealed."

"Adrien Agreste."

"That pretty boy? How did he get so lucky?"

"Are you kidding? I'm the lucky one."

"No, you're not," he muttered.

"What?"

"I said, don't be so modest. You're a wonderful person."

"Adrien is nothing like what the advertisements and his father's company want you to believe. He's not a snob, he's not an airhead, and he's not perfect. He's a very nice boy who's always willing to help and learn. Too bad about his sense of humor, though."

"Hey!"

"What?"

"I…I was just going to say that everyone's got their own opinion."

"But enough about me, kitty. What about you? Are you okay?"

"Of course I am. Why shouldn't I be?"

"Well, you don't exactly visit me very often. Is this visit a birthday present to yourself? Am I that special?"

"Of course you are."

"What's so special about me?"

"You're a very thoughtful and caring young woman, Marinette. I wish I could've celebrated my birthday with you."

"Oh, well I can get you a macaron or something if you like."

"I had some, thanks. Uh…I mean…"

Marinette didn't say anything. She just sat down in the nearby chair.

"De-transform."

He looked over at her to see her reaction.

"Hello again, My Prince."

"You knew?"

"I had a pretty good idea. I'm sure you've felt the same about me."

"For a while now, My Lady."

"Are you upset?"

He sighed, "A little, yes."

"What's the matter?"

"I meant it when I said that I was happy that all my friends celebrated with me, but I'm still upset that for my 18th birthday my own father couldn't be bothered."

"You've never cared about your father's opinion that much. What else is bothering you?"

"I started wondering what my mother would do if she were alive. I know she wasn't the best mom around. She was actually pretty selfish. She always placed her own needs ahead of everyone else. That's why she was always traveling. Still, what would she say now? Would she remember my birthday? Would she like you? Would she like what I've become?"

"What do you mean? The fact that you're nothing like either of them? You're not cold, or selfish, or elitist."

"One thing me and mom have in common. We both like freedom."

"Yes, but you like sharing it with others. It's not enough to be free. You know better than to run off when you have responsibilities. Would you ever leave without telling me?"

"Of course not."

"Then that's why you're better than both of your parents."

"I swear, one day I will tell father about us. I'll tell the whole world how I feel about you."

She placed a hand on the back of his head, and then touched her forehead to his.

"I know, My Prince. I've told you before, while I don't like being a secret, I understand completely. Everything will work out in good time. Until then, I'm just glad you're mine."

"I'm yours completely, Princess. I love you."

Marinette moved back.

"Oh, uh, I'm sorry, Mari, that just slipped out. I promised we wouldn't move too fast."

She leaned in closer and put her lips next to his ear.

"Shut up," she whispered.

She then pulled him in for a passionate kiss. After a while, they finally stopped.

"Wow, that was…does that mean…?"

"I love you, too, you idiot," she said, cuddling up close to him.

"I also love it when your hair is down."

"I'll try to wear it that way more often…or at least try more variety."

That sat there cuddled up together in silence for a while.

"I'd better get back home, Princess."

"Yes, you probably should," she kissed him again, "Happy Birthday, mon amour."

He transformed and disappeared into the shadows. She plopped back into the chair and began to giggle.

"I can't believe I did that. I can't believe he said that," she let out a contented sigh, "Life is good."

It didn't take him too long to get back to his room. He collapsed on his bed, a big smile on his face. He sent a quick text to Marinette.

Prince: I'm home

Princess: That's good. Good night, My Prince.

Prince: Good night, My Princess

He laid back down and closed his eyes.

"Best birthday ever."
