A/N: First of all, I would like to apologise in advance about the amount of POV changes. I'm sorry. But it's the final, so... ya know! Had to do it! Also, sorry if you're a Brightheart or Ferncloud fan, because neither of them get a POV. I'm sorry, I'm lazy, okay! Secondly, sorry this took so long! I've been really busy, and I'm VERY annoyed at myself for completely forgetting to update. I hope this 3,432 word final will make it up to you. Lastly, thank you for staying with me until the end. I don't know how many have come all the way from when the very first chapter was posted, but thank you, all of you for just bearing with me. To the readers, thanks for reading. To the haters, (have I had any?) thanks for hating. And to the fans, thanks for... umm... faning..? I know I'm probably got on your nerves sometimes by not posting, but here we are! Enjoy!
P.s: Imma do a Q&A about this fanfic, so any questions, just put them in the comments.
~xXQuailwingXx
'With the final thrown upon them, the innocents must battle it out to win. But will the innocents turn on each other? Or will they stick together and banish the last imposter?'
There had been no murder- except Lionblaze, of course- but Quailwing had already told the players he was an imposter. Jayfeather let out a sigh of relief. He could hardly afford to lose anyone this close to the end.
"Players! Welcome to the final!" Quailwing entered the room, a skip in her step, "You are my finalists!"
Everyone gathered around Quailwing cheered. This would be their final day here, and someone would win a lot of money.
"So, as you know, today will be your last day here," Quailwing grinned at them, "So, this calls for a special, final mission! Meet outside. I hope you're not scared of heights.
And with that, she spun on her heel and strode out the door.
"Oh, no," Ferncloud smiled, glancing over to Crowfeather, "I think someone's gonna have a rough time today."
Crowfeather folded his arms and gave Ferncloud a hard stare, "Are you suggesting I'm afraid of heights?"
"No!" Ferncloud nodded her head, as she spoke, and grinned at the others.
Crowfeather growled at her, mockingly.
"Watch out, Ferncloud!" Cinderheart laughed, "Crowfeather's coming after you!"
The three of them broke out laughing.
"Hey, guys, what do you think the mission will be?" Briarlight spoke up.
"I don't know!" Ivypool exclaimed, "I mean heights could be to do with anything."
"Ooh! We could have to jump off a cliff!" Poppyfrost squealed in excitement, causing Hollyleaf to stare, wide-eyed, at her.
"You enjoy the thought of jumping of a huge precipice that will ultimately, probably lead to your death?" Hollyleaf asked, frowning at the grinning girl sat next to Briarlight.
"Yes," Poppyfrost gave a small nod of her head, and smiled sweetly at Hollyleaf, "It sounds fun, doesn't it!"
"No! It does not sound fun!" Hollyleaf accidently spat across the table. Wiping her mouth, she gave an embarrassed half-smile, "Oops! I'm really sorry, guys!"
"Well, that's breakfast ruined," Jayfeather rose from his seat, "I'm going to get changed."
The whirring of a helicopter filled the air with a strong breeze that ruffled Cinderheart's hair. She wrinkled her face into a frown as she tried to look through the sun at the aircraft nearing the gathered players. The grass rippled around the helicopter as it landed, and Cinderheart took a step back, shielding herself from the strong wind that radiated from the blades of the helicopter, as they spun round and round, eventually coming to a stop. The doors slid open, and Quailwing appeared from inside the helicopter.
"Hello players," she leaped out from the helicopter, "Today is just for you to enjoy! It's your very last day here, and in the evening, you may have the greatest decision of your life!"
Cinderheart inhaled sharply, the final banishment was coming up. She was the last remaining imposter, and if she wanted win, she'd have to take down Jayfeather, although that was the last thing she wanted to do.
Quailwing's voice cut into her thoughts, "Get yourself into pairs! Each pair will go into the helicopter one by one. One of you will have to jump out into the lake. The other person will drop down a money bag. Obviously, these money bags contain gold, so they will be very heavy. This gives you a limited time until the money sinks top the bottom of the lake, so the person in the lake will have to be fast, and the other will have to have great aim. Good luck, I'll see you at the banishment tonight."
Quailwing turned on her heal, hands in her pockets, and began to walk into the woods, her black jeans were speckled with dirt, and she wore a white jumper. She flicked her blonde hair, whilst her icy blue eyes bore into Cinderheart, as she turned around to look at her finalists once more, before disappearing around a bend.
Quailwing had somewhere to be. One last plot-twist would send the players crazy on the final day. It doesn't hurt to be the slightest bit evil for once, does it? She let out a small laugh as she imagined everyone's faces when she revealed it to them. They would go insane. Quailwing turned into a small clearing, leaves littered the floor and crunched underfoot. Trees encircled it, the area, their branches swaying in the wind. She looked around and stepped into the centre. She was waiting for someone. Then, she called out a name, as a boy with jet black hair, and yellow eyes appeared in front of her, through the trees, "Breezepelt!"
Hollyleaf was in the helicopter with Cinderheart. They watched out the window as they passed over the villa, and the grounds surrounding it.
"This is so cool!" Cinderheart yelled over the noise of the helicopter.
"I know, right! It's one of the best things I've done in my entire life!" Hollyleaf replied as they flew across the lake. Fallenpool was sat in the front seat, piloting the aircraft. He turned around, as the helicopter stopped moving, "Alright, which of you do I get to push off this helicopter, then?"
Hollyleaf exchanged a glance with Cinderheart, then when neither of them said anything, Fallenpool spoke up again, "I'm not gonna do it for you, so you'd better decide!"
"I'll do it," Hollyleaf instantly regretted her decision, but as Fallenpool prepared her, there was no going back. She stood at the edge of the helicopter, the door open, clinging onto Fallenpool's arm.
"You ready?" He asked. Hollyleaf gave a brief nod, and she leaned over the edge, and let go of the rope that was keeping her steady. She felt herself falling through the air, and she glanced down. The water beneath her glistened in the sun, and just like that, she hit the water. Oh, Starclan, I should not, have bellyflopped.
She began to tread water, and watched as the helicopter circled the lake, and came back around to her. A small bag plummeted through the air and landed a few meters away from Hollyleaf. She swam as fast as she could to reach the money, her legs frantically thrashing about in the water, trying to push her forward faster. At last, she reached the bag, and her fingers curled around it.
Ivypool knew something she shouldn't. Maybe Dovewing's converting power didn't work. I know who the imposters are. Should I tell the group? That thought had lingered in her head ever since she remembered who they were. She knew she should, but how would she explain it? Most of them probably wouldn't believe her, and what if Quailwing found out, would she remove her from the game?
"Ivypool!" Ivypool whipped around to see Brightheart and Ferncloud sat on the sofa behind her outside the villa. Ivypool made her way over to the gazebo, where they sat.
Ferncloud gestured for her to sit beside her, and Ivypool did just that.
"Who are you thinking?" Ferncloud asked her. Ivypool gazed silently into the foliage in front of them. Should she tell them? She let out a sigh, and turned to her two fellow innocents, "I think you should know something…"
Briarlight pushed the door open, lightly. Her and Jayfeather had decided to explore the villa a bit more, when she had the idea to look in the murdered or banished players rooms. This was Tigerstar's room. He had the same room set-up as Briarlight's as all the others had; a set of draws on the right side of the room, a bed in the middle. Facing the door, a wardrobe on the left side, and a desk and chair behind the entrance. Briarlight followed Jayfeather into the room and began searching through the draws. Jayfeather was on the opposite end, looking through the wardrobe. Briarlight looked in the top draw. A pen and a notebook. She removed the notebook and placed it on the bed, ready to look through later. She slid the second draw open, and inside was a small note. She began to read it;
Don't forget the deal we made. You know what happens if you break it.
"Jayfeather! Come here!" She called out to him, not taking her eyes of the small shred of paper in her hand. The silver-haired boy rushed over to her, crouching by her side.
"Read this," she shoved the paper into his hands. A few seconds later, he glanced up at her, "Huh, he must have been blackmailed. I thought it was strange when he just put himself up for banishment like that."
Briarlight frowned, "It doesn't seem like blackmail. It looks like he asked them for a favour. Look how it says, 'the deal we made'."
"That's a good point, but what is the other side of the deal?" Jayfeather asked her. Another piece of paper fluttered from Jayfeather's hand from underneath the note.
"It's another note. Must have come with the last one."
"Let me read it," Briarlight said, reaching for the paper once Jayfeather looked up from it. He passed it to her, and she soaked in the words written down on the paper.
I killed him. You go tomorrow.
Briarlight's mind drifted back to the day Tigerstar had been banished. Who had not walked into breakfast that morning?
Bumblestripe.
The players gathered around the table and took their usual spots in their chairs. Quailwing wandered in after them, and stood on the stage before them, "Players! Tonight is the final banishment! The last time you will ever set foot in this villa, and the last time you will be faced with murder and banishments (hopefully)! But this isn't the last time you will have to vote out other players, and last night, wasn't the last time an innocent could be taken down by an imposter. Someone's been looking forward to seeing you again."
Crowfeather gasped as a familiar face came to join Quailwing on the stage. Breezepelt. What was he doing here?
"Welcome back, Breezepelt," Quailwing smiled at him, "As all of you have probably guessed, Breezepelt has not come back here just to watch the last banishments…"
Wait. Crowfeather frowned. Did she just say 'banishments?
"… but in fact, he is here to spice things up a little. Players, put your blindfolds on. Breezepelt is going to choose one player to leave the villa, forever. They will not take part in the final, and he will take their place. As an imposter or innocent, you'll never know."
Crowfeather slipped his blindfold over his head and gulped. He couldn't leave. Not now. Not so close to the end. He prayed Starclan would save him. He could hear the footsteps of Breezepelt circling around them many times. Just choose someone already! Crowfeather growled in his head, and just then, he heads the footsteps of someone else walking from the villa, and the scraping of a chair as it was being pulled in.
"You may now take off your blindfolds!"
Crowfeather scanned the room, looking for who had gone. Poppyfrost? No. Ferncloud? No. Brightheart? No. Hollyleaf? No. Briarlight? No. Ivypool? No. Jayfeather? It had to be Jayfeather, but no. Cinderheart. It was Cinderheart. Why Cinderheart? What did Breezepelt have against her?
"Breezepelt," Quailwing spoke up, would you like to share why you have chosen to take out Cinderheart?"
"I did you guys a favour," Breezepelt looked every one of the players in the eye, "Cinderheart was an imposter."
Quailwing nodded her head when all eyes turned to her, "I can confirm that Cinderheart was an imposter. But now, it is time for the banishment. Players, the floor is yours..."
Briarlight spoke first, "Me an Jayfeather were exploring the rooms earlier, and we came to Tigerstar's old room," Crowfeather spotted Breezepelt raise his eyebrows and tense only slightly, "We found a note in his draw. It said something about making a deal and that whoever wrote it had killed someone for him, and that he had to go the next day. Bumblestripe was killed the night he got that note. I don't know if this is relevant now, but I thought you should know."
Breezepelt raised his hand, and let out a small, awkward laugh, "That was me. Tigerstar sought me out to make a deal, and we did. I don't know why, but I can tell you that would've only been relevant if Tigerstar was still here."
The others nodded. Then, Ivypool spoke up, "Ferncloud, I've noticed that your behaviour has been quite erratic and all over the place these past few days. Maybe, something has changed before that time."
Ivypool of course knew that Cinderheart had been an imposter, but she didn't know who had replaced her when she was converted, and she didn't have a lot of faith in Ferncloud, because of her behaviour. Ivypool continued, "You've been trying to point out random people to me. For example, yesterday, you came up to me, and told me that Briarlight was acting strange, and she may be an imposter. The day before, you said Jayfeather!"
"Well," Ferncloud retorted, "It's not my fault that my opinion changes a lot, is it?"
"A lot?" Poppyfrost exclaimed, "I haven't said anything until now, as I thought it was just you being paranoid, but every day, you have mentioned someone different to me! Someone different to what Ivypool has told me! Like yesterday, you said Brightheart was suspicious!"
"It's very suspicious…" Hollyleaf frowned at Ferncloud, "You've been doing the same to me. Your either paranoid or trying to throw everyone off."
Everyone else seemed to agree.
"Players, the time for talk is over! Write down your vote, and we'll see who leaves the villa tonight!"
It had to be Ferncloud. Of course she was going. Everyone should vote her- well except herself, obviously.
"We'll start with you, Ivypool, who did you decide to vote?"
"I'm sorry Ferncloud, but like I said, with our behaviour, it just isn't making sense for me, so I voted for you tonight."
"Ferncloud?"
"I voted for Breezepelt. You were an imposter before, and I'm getting you still are."
"Jayfeather?"
"Ferncloud. I'm so sorry. I really am, but I had to go off what the others have said."
"Briarlight?"
"Ferncloud, sorry, but everything about you is just not adding up."
"Crowfeather?"
"I voted for you, Ferncloud, I'm sorry."
"Brightheart?"
"I voted for Ferncloud. There was a strange habit going on with name calling."
"Poppyfrost?"
"Ferncloud. We can't just ignore the strange behaviour you are showing."
"Breezepelt?"
"I just got, here, and based on the evidence that I've gotten, Ferncloud, I've voted for you."
"Hollyleaf?"
"I have voted for you, Ferncloud. I can't get your actions out of my head."
"I look like Ferncloud has received the most votes, and swill be banished. However, she may not reveal her identity and leave the villa immediately. Goodbye, Ferncloud."
Ferncloud stood up and dipped her head to Quailwing as she passed her at the door.
"Now," Quailwing regained her position on the stage, "there is to be another banishment. This time, though, you can vote skip. Only if there is a tie, then you must vote. There will be no discussion. Write your vote down now."
"Jayfeather, who have you decided to vote?"
"I have decided to vote Breezepelt. I know how you play, and I believe you are still an imposter."
"Hollyleaf?"
"Breezepelt. It is too dangerous to keep you in the game when we don't have any evidence of you."
"Briarlight?"
"I voted Breezepelt. Same reasons as everyone else."
"Poppyfrost?"
"Breezepelt, I voted for you. It's not safe to keep you here."
"Breezepelt?"
"I voted Jayfeather. Old grudges come back. The same reasons I have stated many times before."
"Brightheart?"
"I voted for yourself, Breezepelt. Just like the others have said, we don't know what you could be, as there is no evidence."
"Crowfeather?"
"Breezepelt. I believe you are still an imposter."
"Ivypool?"
"Breezepelt, I voted for you. There's no evidence."
"Breezepelt," Quailwing said, her eyes on him, "Leave the villa immediately, without revealing your identity."
Breezepelt stood up, and left the villa, grinding his teeth in frustration. He could've had the chance to win, but he didn't, all because the others wouldn't trust him. But then again, they were right to not trust him. He was an imposter, after all.
"Players, we will keep banishing until all of you vote skip. I will give you time for a discussion. One minute on the clock."
"Jayfeather," Poppyfrost spoke up, "I think we have to look at you again, because a lot of people suspected you, until Breezepelt was banished. It blew over after that, and no one has questioned you since. I'm not saying that I suspect you, I'm just saying that maybe we shouldn't forget about things like this so easily."
Briarlight frowned, "I believe that Jayfeather has proved himself multiple times, like when he voted Breezepelt."
"Yes, but why did he gun for him so hard? People would only go for someone that hard if they knew for sure. How would he know for sure? If he's an imposter with Breezepelt," Poppyfrost said in reply.
This time, it was Jayfeather who spoke, "I knew for sure, because I saw him, when-"
"You were planning who to murder with him!" Poppyfrost scowled.
"Don't interrupt me!" Jayfeather raised his voice.
"Why would I listen to an imposter?"
"You shouldn't, and that's good, because I'm not an imposter! Remember how I saved you from Breezepelt? Does that sound like something an imposter would do?"
Poppyfrost went silent, as if something had it hit her, then she said oh a quiet voice, "Oh, yeah… sorry."
"Players! It is now time to vote!"
"Jayfeather?"
"Skip."
Hollyleaf?"
"Skip."
"Briarlight?"
"Skip"
"Brightheart?"
"Skip."
"Crowfeather?"
"Skip."
"Ivypool?"
"Skip."
"Poppyfrost?"
"Skip."
"All of you voted skip, meaning, that at last, the game is over, but what you are all waiting to know, is if here are any imposters left among you! Jayfeather, we'll start with you, are you an imposter, or an innocent?"
"I am an innocent!"
"Hollyleaf? Same question."
"I am a proud innocent!"
"Briarlight?"
"Innocent!"
"Brightheart?"
"I have always been an innocent!"
"Crowfeather?"
"I'm an innocent!"
"Ivypool?"
"I'm an innocent, though I was not from the start."
"Poppyfrost?"
"I am an innocent!"
"You are all innocents! This means you share the money, which is at a total of £98,000! That means £14,000 for each of you!"
All seven of them leapt up and cheered. That's when it finally hit Jayfeather. He had won a lot of money! He flung his arms around Briarlight, and the others joined them. Quailwing watched them, smiling.
"I have the money for you here! Take a bag each, and get out of here!" she laughed, and gave them each a bag of pure gold, worth thousands of pounds. Jayfeather waved Quailwing goodbye, and she grinned at him. He was smiling as he walked out the villa door and got into the black cab that drove the group into the city.
Jayfeather got out of the cab, and he saw Poppyfrost walking down the road in front of him with Brightheart. They waved goodbye to each other as they split ways. Jayfeather felt a hand touch his shoulder. He turned around. Briarlight came to stand beside him. She looked him in the eye, "You have some time? We could grab a drink if you like?"
Jayfeather smile stretched even wider, "I always have time for you."
Briarlight took his hand and lead him through the streets. They walked side by side, hand in hand, with over 10,000 pounds in each of their other hands. It couldn't get more perfect, Jayfeather thought to himself as he walked with Briarlight. When he entered Quailwing's Murder Mystery game, he went on for the money. Winning was something he didn't expect, but finding someone he loved, the perfect girl, was far better than anything money could buy. This was the happiest he'd ever been in his life, and he intended it to stay this way.
