Chapter 2
Sasuke Uchiha was having a good day.
Not that it showed on his face mind you, he still had that stoic , indifferent look.
He was making his way back to Konoha after successfully finishing an A-rank mission .That had something to do with his good mood.
The fact that he had been spared from two weeks with that tedious medical project also had something to do with it
He simply could not bare the excessive squealing of the fangirls stalking him there once they knew he'd be a sitting duck , stuck overseeing that stupid project.
The hospital has never been busier.
That Idiot Naruto really was a sore loser
You'd think half the fangirls would've run screaming by now after all his many arguably regrettable deeds.
But no such luck , apparently a last minute change of heart, Naruto's vote of confidence and his appearance was all it took to forgive and forget
The stupidity of the human race is outstanding.
Not even the staff was immune from said stupidity
The amount of nurses and medics alike batting their eyelashes at him was just ridiculous
I should've broken his other arm too
None was immune to his good looks to his dismay, not even those in a committed relationship
Except maybe Hyuga
Now she only had eyes for the village's idiot who also happens to be its leader
A shame really, she can do so much better
Although anyone can do so much better than his supposed best friend who threw him to the hungry female wolves
None the less Sasuke chased those thoughts away once he saw Konoha's front gates
Now that he was back on the field there was no way Naruto's sending him back to that stuffy sex-crazed hellhole
He made his way stealthily to the Hokage's tower.
No need to agitate the masses.
His good mood only increased once he slipped through the window unnoticed by the Anbu operatives supposed to be protecting the Hokage
He just liked tweaking their noses a bit too much , it might get him killed one day.
Of course, said operatives weren't completely useless as they arrived one minute later to apprehend the intruder
And were immediately dismissed by their Hokage once he uncovered the identity of said intruder
"Your security is lax" said Sasuke dusting his poncho
"They're new recruits , one minute is not that bad" answered Naruto putting away the document in his hand
"one minutes can get you killed" he stated going around the desk to face his friend
" awww are you worried about me Sasuke-Teme?" teased Naruto with a shit eating grin, his one good eye crinkling
Before Sasuke could ask about the left black eye , there was a knock on the door.
"Come in" said Naruto trading that grin for something more professional
Serious Naruto still creeps him out
"Forgive me, i didn't know you were already in a meeting "said a feminine voice still obscured by the barely cracked door
"no please come in"said Naruto clearing his throat
And in came the blue haired kunoichi , with a small smile directed at Sasuke once she noticed his presence in the office
"Welcome home, Sasuke-san" greeted Hinata
"Hn" was Sasuke's response to which Hinata's smile widened a tiny fraction
She of course spoke stoic and standoffish fluently, she was a Hyuga after all. That sound was an acknowledgment of existing and lack of annoyance.
It was better than most got.
As she turned to face the person sitting behind the desk , her smile faltered for a few seconds before going back to that small polite quirk of lips.
A millisecond change of demeanor which Sasuke's sharp eyes caught easily
She's wearing her Hyuga mask.
You see although Sasuke was quite against that annoying medical project, it still had it's uses .
Gathering intel on different people coming and going from the hospital was quite easy.
It was more of a mental deck of cards full of different information, facial expressions and quirks he couldn't help but notice when he was bored to tears in that forsaken hospital
A bit like Kabuto's cards. But less creepy.
And that is why he could easily see it.
Most Hyugas had that icy mask of distain and indifference on their face to hide what they were thinking. And although Hinata Hyuga prided herself (only recently) on breaking from her family's mold by disregarding that coldness in her day-to-day interactions, which she liked to conduct with more genuineness. She still had her own mask that she dons (hers just happens to come with a smile), when the occasion calls for it. Mostly at council meeting or diplomatic missions.
Her sister called it "the sweet smile of doom", which according to her is a look she gets before politely but firmly putting an elder in their place.
Her cousin disagrees saying that it was a different mask; this one was her "diplomatic eclipse mask" which eclipsed her more genuine bright smile along with her thoughts
But that's neither here nor there
The important things was that after working with her for almost a whole month , Sasuke Uchiha is now capable of cataloguing her different expressions
Not that he spent a considerable amount of time looking at her face or anything.
No matter how pleasing he found it to be.
"I have the report you asked for Hokage-Sama" said Hinata putting said file on the desk
"I….uh…Thank you Hinata…there really isn't any need to be so….Formal" trails off Naruto
"Of course there is, it's important to give respect where and when it's due" she continued her smile not reaching her eyes
Was that a hint of sarcasm in her voice? thought Sasuke
Not that Naruto would notice that kind of thing
"hhh, thank you?… I was wondering…Could you take a look at my eye and maybe heal it?" asked Naruto scratching the back of his head, eyes closed
Another faltering of her smile
Which again Naruto missed
"I'm afraid , I must get going . As I have a meeting with the Hyuga council that I cannot miss" she answered thatsmile still not reaching her eyes who somehow were gaining that frosty Hyuga quality
Oh, she is pissed. Thought Sasuke quirking one eyebrow
"Might I suggest Sakura-chan? I'm sure she'd be more than happy to attend to your…needs" she delivered with that sweet smile of doom.
Hanabi would be so proud.
"I…okay…I'll…thanks Hinata" said Naruto mentally wincing . Damn.
"you're welcome. If that is all ,may I be dismissed?"
Oh, she is really pissed. What am I missing?
"of course , Hinata"
" Good day Hokage-sama" she said with a bow " good day Sasuke-san" she said turning to the Uchiha a slight blush adorning her cheeks at the thought of him witnessing what she considered an unseemly display of temper
She shouldn't have been embarrassed . Sasuke thought he was indeed having a very good day , watching his friend get cut down with polite words rather than a kunai.
Who knew Hyuga could be so amusing?
Once the door was closed , he turned to face his friend's slumped form . Sitting down on one of the chairs Sasuke raised one questioning eyebrow.
" we broke up" mumbled Naruto face still planted against the papers adorning his desk
Still no response from Sasuke , who knew his friend will continue talking without being prompted to
"I don't want to talk about it"
Now that, made Sasuke's other eyebrow join the first.
Naruto finally looked up with a grimace, whether it was towards the situation or from his black eye wasn't clear.
Seeing the Uchiha's still questioning gaze directed at his messed up eye , Naruto sighed .
"Payback" was his only answer
" Inuzuka or the cousin?" asked Sasuke now unable to contain his curiosity
"The sister" answered Naruto
"Why isn't healing?" smirked Sasuke
" Because that little shit closed my tenketsu before introducing me to her not so Gentle Fist. And Kurama is refusing to help, saying I deserve it" huffed Naruto
"Do you?"
"yes, I do" said Naruto dejected now once again
What the hell happened in those two weeks he was away?
"But now that you are back you can help me with the situation " grinned Naruto
" I am not a healer"
"Not my black eye you smart ass! The Hinata situation"
He was not liking where this was going
"you can keep an eye on her and tell me how she's really doing" said Naruto still not losing that stupid smile "all I get are those small interactions and I can't get a good read on her"
You have got to be kidding
"So I'm assigning you back to medic/shinobi exchange project"
" I will not step foot in that place"
"Aww Sasuke-teme come on! I made sure to tighten security, the hospital now has a few medics who do a… Triage? I think Hinata called it. To separate real injured patients from faking fangirls trying to get in your pants"
"and where was this brilliant idea when I was being stalked even in the bathroom?" asked Sasuke with a vein throbbing on his temple
"Well….. I only told Hinata about it after I assigned you that mission. So she created the system saying it wasn't fair for real patients to wait just so that horny teenagers can sniff you"
"Hyuga said that?"
"Well not exactly those words" answered Naruto sheepishly "the point is Ino's refusing to talk to me even though she doesn't know why we broke up, she just assumes I messed up"
"Which you did"
"Kiba will probably blacken my other eye if he gets the chance, and Shino might actually join him" continued Naruto as if he wasn't interrupted " Neji will find a way to hurt me without making it look like insubordination , and Sakura is just out of the question"
When he received nothing but a blank face from the stoic Uchiha that seemed to say: and this is my problem why? He proceeded with using his trump card
Begging
"pleaaaaase Temeee! I just need inside intel. All you have to do is observe, which you already dooo" whined Naruto
Quite the undignified display for a Hokage
"Aaaand….I promise the next S-rank mission will have your name on it" he finished his proposal
And that got his attention
"what kind of S-rank ?" asked Sasuke , interest finally peaked .
" Any kind you like! Something dangerous , that'll get you to exercise and work out that excess energy…an assassination maybe or a retrieval mission… you'll get your pick from the requests. But please do me this favor" said Naruto with pleading big blue eyes
"you really are desperate"
"I.. I messed up Sasuke… I just want to know what's going on but I'm stuck in this office" his voice taking a regretful tone
Just what the hell happened?
He has never seen his friend so…remorseful , nor has he seen the Hyuga heiress furious
And furious she had been
Hell has no fury like a Kunoichi scorned
I can't believe I'm agreeing to this
"fine" said Sasuke finally accepting his fate
"oh, great! Thanks Sasuke! You already know the ins and out of the project , various Shinobi will be attending special lectures and will get hands on training in the emergency room for shinobi, civilians and kids. You're overseeing all the units anyway so it wont be that hard to get all the juicy gossip" exclaimed Naruto excitedly
Gossip? What am I a mole?
I'm already regretting this
"and of course if you happen to be near Hinata at the time, you can maybe watch…"
" you want me to watch your girlfriend?" interrupted Sasuke with a deadpan look
"well now you make it sound creepy! Not watch, you pervert! Observe , interact ,whatever! And she's not my girlfriend anymore…that's the whole point" answered a red faced Nauto
"just keep me posted on the situation" finished Naruto with his serious Hokage face
It was still creepy
"understood. If that is all. May I be dismissed?" said Sasuke tone dripping with sarcasm unlike a certain Hyuga
Naruto who had a feeling where this was going mumbled a goodbye with a promise to meet later for Ramen
The Uchiha walked towards the door to exit. No need to alarm the Anbus again.
And just as he reached it , turned around with a smirk " Good day . Hokage-sama"
He walked down Konoha's street leaving his friend banging his head on top of his desk .Rrepeatedly
Sasuke groaned ( mentally, because Uchihas don't groan out loud) at the idea of his new "mission".
And here he thought he was having a good day.
What a joke.
He really shouldn't have tempted fate .

Introducing Sasuke whom i'm trying to keep authentic but we all know that sooner or later some OOC-ness will probably appear but it'll be worth it i hope
As for Hinata i like to think that what she lacked with physical strength ( at the beginning of the anime at least) made up for with cunning and diplomacy . I always have this idea of her being politically savy, so that might bleed into her character .All i know is that i don't do weak Hinata .And of course there are a lot of different kind of strength
Also i couldn't kill Neji , he is alive and kicking
