AN: Before we begin, I want to address... certain people. You know who you are. The people who don't so much give critiques but rather "offer" their artwork to certain stories. The ones who can't seem to take "no" for an answer. Please, understand, I don't know you, I don't know if you're the real deal or scammers. So, as a precaution I am saying no and leaving at that. Do NOT post your comments unless they're actual critiques. I am sick of having to put up with this, and I'm sure my fellow fanfic writers are sick of it too. Either critique or don't even bother.
With that said... let's begin.
Kaiju (怪獣): (Japanese): "Strange Beast" (universally): "Giant Monster"
Jaeger: (jɛːɡɐ) (German): Hunter
For a while, humanity deemed itself the rulers of the planet. The only ones ever being able to challenge them for dominance were themselves. However, following the detonation of the Hydrogen Bomb, that dominance was challenged by something even greater.
It was in the late Autumn of 1954, when the first ever recorded Kaiju, Godzilla, made landfall in Tokyo. In the matter of a single night, Tokyo was burned to the ground, thousands of lives were lost while countless more would die years later. It wasn't until the sacrifice of Daisuke Serizawa and his weapon, the Oxygen Destroyer, humanity was able to breathe a sigh of relief...
Or so they thought. Three years later, Godzilla would return, but he would not return alone as other beasts would follow him. Anguirus in Siberia, Rodan in Africa, Varan in Singapore, more and more Kaiju throughout the years.
While humanity had defensive measures, a new weapon was needed to combat the Kaiju more effectively.
Thus, the Jaeger Program was born.
The brain child of Doctors Caitlin Lightcap and Jasper Schoenfeld, the Jaeger Program would combine human ingenuity but with far better combat abilities by way of neural control.
There were setbacks at first, the neural load to interface proved too much for a single pilot. A dual-pilot system was implemented; right hemisphere/left hemisphere pilot control. For a while it worked. Humans were now more on equal terms with the Kaiju. However, Jaegers were only good as their pilots, so Rangers became celebrities and fear turned into confidence.
And confidence turned into arrogance...
