Chapter One: The Darkness That Haunts Her.

"Seras?"

When her dinner date's voice broke through her thoughts, Seras snapped out of her thoughts, returning to reality.

The ambient hum of nearby conversations intertwined with the soft, enchanting notes of a live piano serenading the diners, creating an intimate atmosphere in the upscale restaurant.

Seras blinked, her deep, expressive sapphire eyes sparkling with anticipation as they settled on the beautifully presented ribeye steak, perfectly seared to a tantalizing medium rare.

With its rich marbling, the meat promised a burst of flavor with every bite. Flanking the steak were vibrant, seasoned vegetables, their colors vibrant and enticing—a medley of crisp asparagus, roasted carrots, and golden potatoes, all artfully arranged on the expensive plate.

The aroma wafting from Seras' meal was sumptuous, and if she were human, her stomach would doubly be fluttering with eagerness for the culinary delight that awaited her.

She looked up at her dinner date, noting the concern on his face as he sat across the table from her, impeccably dressed. His hand reached out gently for hers, a silent offer of support that warmed her heart amid the moment's tension.

"I'm truly sorry, Vincent. I've been carrying a lot on my mind these days," she said gently, offering a warm squeeze to his black-gloved hand to convey her emotions.

His hair was expertly slicked back, trimmed into a modern business cut that emphasized his sharp features. Thick with pomade, it reflected the restaurant's light like polished gold.

He wore a dark blue military-style suit that hugged his frame, its tailored lines exuding authority and sophistication. The expensive fabric's subtle sheen added to his dignified presence, making him effortlessly elegant and impossible to ignore.

"I've noticed you haven't eaten or said much tonight. I'm really concerned about you. Is everything okay, my darling?"

"Yes," she said softly, feeling a rush of affection. It surprised her that he was already using pet names after just a year. The depth of their feelings had grown so quickly. His sky-blue eyes reflected kindness and sincerity. He was religious and came from a distinguished family, the Aspenhäusers.

Vincent Gabrielle Aspenhäuser II was a captain in the British military, a role that reflected his strong character and solid upbringing. Coming from a respected family, he embodied duty and honor, making him an admirable choice. She was fortunate to have someone of his caliber, as he was what any woman would describe as the perfect man.

"I truly appreciate this lovely dinner. I'm sorry, but I'm a bit tired and not feeling my best lately. It might be because of my new diet." She revealed with a light blush.

Vincent nodded gently in understanding, acknowledging the weight of the moment. He wiped his mouth softly with his napkin before setting it down on the table and rising to his feet. With a tender expression, he moved around the table to assist his lady, offering his hand and lifting her with kindness and care.

"Forgive me, it's my fault for not taking your health into consideration before I whisked you off to this place. Let's us finish out the evening at your place, shall we?"

Seras quirked a brow at him as she gracefully collected her elegant clutch from the polished tabletop. She turned to Vincent with a warm, appreciative smile that lit up her face. As they made their way to the booth, their arms intertwined effortlessly. The restaurant's ambiance buzzed around them, filled with the soft murmur of other diners and the clinking of silverware.

As he approached the register, Vincent led the way, exuding a charming confidence. The overhead lights cast a soft glow on their faces, highlighting the gentle connection between the lovely couple.

With a casual yet elegant gesture, he pulled out his wallet, revealing crisp banknotes that he handed the clerk with a nod of gratitude. The clerk smiled back, completing the transaction with a flourish. Meanwhile, Seras glanced around, her eyes sparkling with contentment as they wrapped up their delightful evening.

After paying for their meal at the quaint little restaurant in the bustling city, they entered the cool evening air, where a sleek private car awaited them. The driver greeted them respectfully as they climbed in, the leather seats enveloping them comfortably.

Upon their arrival at Seras's regal hotel, a charming establishment with a warm glow emanating from its entrance, Vincent turned to her with a soft smile. He leaned in closer and gently kissed her cheek, an unspoken promise lingering.

"Go ahead, I just need to grab something from the car," he said, his tone casual but earnest.

Seras looked at him momentarily, her brow slightly furrowed in curiosity. Still, she nodded, understanding that sometimes little things are quickly forgotten in the heat of passion.

Feeling a wave of excitement course through her, she made her way toward the entrance, her sexy heels clicking rhythmically against the marble floor as she headed to the elevators, leaving Vincent momentarily behind. The hotel's warmth enveloped her as she stepped inside, the smell of cedar wood and blooming flowers wafting through the lobby.

She headed to the elevators, pressed the glowing button, and stood alone in the corridor. Her eyes glanced over the gilded gold border of the elevator doors. She realized she couldn't see her reflection in them and grew slightly nervous.

Although Seras and Vincent had been dating exclusively for a year, she didn't tell him that she was a vampire. She couldn't bear the thought of him leaving her because of the negative stigma associated with her secret.

Vincent was more than Seras had ever imagined in a partner, and with each romantic encounter, their hearts grew fonder. She began to long for the days when they could be together.

Seras felt a warm presence behind her and turned to find her gentleman with a stunning bouquet of bright red roses. Vincent's smile instantly lit up her face, and each flower symbolized his affection.

"Oh Vincent, they are lovely!" Seras said in astonishment as she claimed the bouquet from his gloved hands. His eyes lit up instantly at her reaction, and a gentle smile spread over his handsome face.

"Thank you," Seras said meaningfully.

Their eyes locked, and in that electric moment, the world faded away, leaving just the two of them and the magic of what could be. Vincent pulled her into his arms, embraced her, and kissed her. Seras willfully accepted, pouring out all her feelings against his lips. Neither of them heard the elevator chime arriving on their floor.

The doors parted open, revealing the liftman's obscured face. The young man was surprised to encounter such an intimate scene. The attendant's long black bangs hid his ruby eyes as the couple indulged in one another.

Clearing his throat modestly, the attendant asked," Will you be going up?"

Vincent's lips pulled away from Seras', snapping them both out of their heated lust. His arms fell away from her, and she stared at him invitingly as she wiped her bottom lip with her thumb. She hoped he wouldn't refuse her this time, but her expression fell as he shook his head.

"No, no. just the lady."

"Yes, sir. Shall we then, miss?"

Seras felt her face heat with embarrassment as she turned to escape into the elevator, but Vincent's gloved hand caught her wrist, bringing it to his lips for a gentle kiss.

"I enjoyed dinner tonight. Take care of yourself, and I'll call you tomorrow. Sweet dreams, my darling."

"Good night, Vincent! Thank you," she said, holding the roses up with a hollow smile. She tried to keep the hurt she felt inside from showing in her words or on her pretty face.

He released her hand, and she stepped back into the elevator. Their eyes locked until the silver doors closed between them. Seras rubbed the spot on her hand where he had kissed her, feeling disappointed that he had declined her request to spend the night again.

The desire for intimacy wasn't new, but lately, she craved it more with each encounter. Vincent, however, did not seem to reciprocate the same passion during their most intimate moments. He appeared to steel himself, holding back his desire out of respect for her. Unfortunately, Seras found this noble gesture increasingly frustrating.

She didn't notice the liftman's creepy expression or the twisting shadows on the floor around his feet as she thought about Vincent. His eyes wandered over her attractive frame, which was wrapped up in that short red dress discretely as the elevator ascended the shaft.

Feeling eyes on her, she finally looked up from the floor at the man across from her. He tipped his uniform hat over his eyes, feigning shyness. She smiled at him warmly even though she couldn't make out his face.

Seras exited the elevator and returned to her room, heartbroken as she reflected on what had gone wrong during the date. She entered her modern, minimalist apartment and shut the door with a heavy sigh. Her hand lingered on the doorknob as she closed her eyes, her body yearning for a man's touch.

Just once, she wished to dishevel his pristine hair, tear off his expensive clothing, and toss it onto the floor beside her bed. She craved to be on top of him, riding him steadily while he groaned his passions beneath her. Deeper than that, there was the desire to discover what his blood tasted like.

Seras sighed in frustration as she dropped her keys, flowers, and purse onto the mantle. She shrugged off her thick black coat, hung it up, and headed into the kitchen for a much-needed drink. Stocked with blood substitutes and other foods she could consume, the luxury refrigerator looked unusually unappealing.

The substitute served as her primary source of sustenance, satisfying her cravings for human blood, but it came with terrible side effects. Seras often felt weaker and more tired as the evenings wore on. Staying fit became increasingly difficult, as her muscles ached when pushed beyond the capabilities of a normal human.

One word echoed in the darkness of her mind.

Poison.

Seras shivered as she wrapped her arms around herself, feeling a sudden chill sweep through the room. Lately, she had noticed that the substitute only made her feel hollow. The craving for that hot, copper elixir, which soothed her dry throat as it went down, grew more intense.

I want it!

I want blood!

I need Vincent's blood!

Seras could feel the seductive thrum of her vampiric instincts calling to her, stirring wild energy in her veins. Without hesitation, she lunged toward the countertop, her heart racing as she seized the substitute and tore the packet open with an eager flourish.

The cold, bitter burgundy liquid poured into her mouth, making her gag. Nevertheless, she forced herself to swallow it. Her stomach rebelled against what she was consuming as if insulted by this imitation.

Seras pulled the plastic pouch away from her mouth and pressed her hand over her lips. Tears streamed down her face as she struggled to swallow the contents.

You aren't a blood-drinking beast; it's merely a side effect of the chemicals in the substitution, Rhys—the ex-military doctor—had drilled into her mind.

Keep it down, and you'll be fine.

Seras leaned heavily against the sink, the porcelain grounding her as she fought against the rising tide of desperation within. The internal struggle waged on, her willpower tested as an aching hunger clawed at her insides. But slowly, bit by bit, the gnawing pain began to dissipate.

With a shuddering breath, she gripped the edge of the sink, allowing a soft, muffled sob to escape her lips. Relief washed over her like a balm, but it was always temporary. Each night dragged her into the same relentless cycle: the regret, the insatiable hunger, and the bitter longing that gnawed at her, leaving her gasping in its wake.

With a burst of urgency, she seized a bottle of white wine and uncorked it with a swift twist of her wrist. The golden liquid cascaded into the waiting glass, glimmering like liquid sunshine as it splashed against the exquisite crystal.

Without hesitation, she lifted the glass to her lips, the sweet and tangy aroma enveloping her senses. As the wine swirled inside her mouth, a rush of pleasure surged through her, igniting a spark of thrill. She swallowed, feeling the warmth flush through her veins, and before she knew it, the glass was empty.

Undeterred, she poured herself another generous serving, savoring the euphoric bliss as she drained it repeatedly, chasing the lovely buzz until everything else faded away, leaving only the intoxicating essence of freedom behind.

"Oh, my sweet draculina, how it pains me to see you suffer like this."

Seras choked mid-swallow at the voice behind her. The glass slipped from her hand and shattered at her feet. She cleared her throat with a sputtering cough and wiped her mouth with a shaking hand.

It's not real. It's just in your head!

But was this indeed another one of her visions? Seras decided to trust herself and turned around slowly, pivoting on her black heels. Her soft, rosy lips parted in shock as she faced the source of her true horror.

No way!

Impossible!

Her blue eyes seemed to glow beneath her dark lashes. Her pupils trembled, and her breath caught in her throat.

"Yes, it is I, your master, returned in the flesh. I've come for you, Seras Victoria, my beloved one." His voice slithered through the shadows of her mind, teasing and taunting.

She stood frozen, a chill of terror coursing through her body at Alucard's sudden appearance. He starkly contrasted her bright, modern apartment, a wraith of darkness that seeped into every corner, tainting the once safe space with his cold, archaic presence.

Alucard loomed in the doorway, his towering frame shrouded in his iconic attire, a figure that could have stepped straight out of a nightmare.

"Alucard?" His name slipped from her lips like a forbidden incantation. The anger and turmoil she had buried deep within began to resurface, and she felt the hot sting of tears prickling her eyes. The master vampire's silence hung like an impending storm before his haunting words finally broke through.

"Seras, it's been five long years! Oh, my draculina, you have no idea how I've missed you," he exclaimed, a mockery dripping from his tone as his arms stretched wide as if encompassing all the years apart.

Shadows danced at his feet, creeping further into her sanctuary, and she instinctively backed against the counter, shaking her head in disbelief, unable to comprehend this ominous reunion.

"It can't be! How did you find me?!" she shot back, her voice laced with disbelief. He appeared in the kitchen instantly, his formidable presence casting a shadow that sent a chill down her spine. Her heart raced as his boots crunching against the shattered glass echoed in the tense silence.

"Who do you think has funded your little underground military doctor and all other expenses? Integra was careful with your information but not theirs. It wasn't hard to track them down and find your whereabouts."

The mention of Rhys was enough to spark her ire.

"If you harmed Rhys, I'll kill you!"

Alucard smirked at her bold threat, intrigue sparking in his eyes. He stepped closer, intoxicated by the enchanting aroma that wafted from her.

The decadent blend of cashmere, ripe strawberries, and bubbly champagne danced in the air, igniting his senses with an irresistible allure that promised exhilaration.

"The human is still alive, for now. Though I should have killed her for making that abhorrent substance you ingested! I've been watching you for a long time, Seras, and you have become so weak in just two years. Seeing my greatest creation withering away by choice is heartbreaking."

His gloved hands raised, and Seras felt the fabric brush against her neck as he touched her; she feared he would seduce her like last time.

"No! Get away from me!" She cried out.

His hands, however, captured her head, forcing her to look at him. She tried to break free, pushing at his chest in desperation, but his grip was like iron.

"You have no energy to fight back against me like you did that night at the Hellsing compound. You were so fierce and beautiful that day. The thought of hunting you down at any time thrilled me."

"Ugh, let go! Did you think I missed you after what you did to me? Who could miss such a despicable monster?!"

"Still, you are as feisty as ever. My body craved yours every hour we were apart. The taste of you is still vivid upon my tongue even now."

"Is that the reason why you came here? For the sake of a fuck?" She asked disgustedly.

His thumbs stroked her flushed cheeks, pressing into the flesh until he felt her bones beneath. Seras whimpered in pain, growing pale as his swirling, insidious red eyes grew brighter.

"It's so much more than that, Seras. All those who part with the night return eventually. Did you think you had escaped me, my dear fledgling? I merely allowed you to leave!" He revealed smugly.

As she tried to break from his grasp, her once-neat golden locks broke free, cascading wildly around her like a shimmering waves. The loose tendrils framed her face, pulling attention to her makeup, which now ran slightly with an enchanting allure.

Choked sobs slipped from her trembling lips, and tears, glistening like jewels, streamed down her flushed cheeks. The vampire, drawn to the captivating sound of her distress, moved closer, his eyes gleaming with fascination and hunger as he parted his lips, ready to bridge the perilous gap between them.

Seras cringed, utterly disgusted at the touch of his slimy, serpentine tongue. His breath, hot upon her face, smelled of red berries and wine. The muscle rubbed across her face, slurping up every little tear her eyes bled.

She was such a precious little fool, so blissfully unaware of the depths of his grip on her. How could she believe she had indeed escaped his influence?

Alucard's mind raced back to that fateful day when she walked away, a tidal wave of rage crashing over him, threatening to consume everything in its path. The moment's thrill ignited a fire within him, a fierce determination bubbling to the surface as he recalled the day she left him.

Everyone found it strange when Alucard finally agreed to let Seras leave without a fight. The vampire surprised Walter and Integra, but Seras quickly wept joyfully.

Integra and Walter warned Seras to be cautious, as Alucard was a tactician who would never willingly let go of what belonged to him.

However, Seras didn't heed their advice and wasted no time packing her things. The next day, she strolled out of the mansion as dusk approached.

Her black boater hat shielded her eyes from the fading sunlight, and the long sleeves of her cropped red cardigan billowed gently in the passing wind.

Integra watched from her office window as Seras saluted her one last time. Seras turned around and hopped into her red car. She glanced over her shoulder at the mansion one last time, a sad expression crossing her face before she drove away.

Alucard leaned silently against the wall in the farthest corner of the room. Integra continued to watch the little red car travel down the road until it disappeared from view. Then, she turned and sat in her chair, releasing a heavy sigh.

"You let her go, but yet you didn't break your bond to her? Why did you lie to her?" His master asked suddenly, breaking the silence. The leather seat creaked as she leaned forward to hear his explanation.

Alucard's lips curled back, revealing a sinister smile that spread across his shadowy face.

"The girl is gone. Does it matter at this point?" he replied as if Seras was no longer his concern. His attitude instantly irritated the woman. Her plucked brows knitted together, and she fixed him with an icy stare.

"Although Seras Victoria may no longer be with us in my home, she will always be part of my family! Please, Alucard, tell me what more could you want from keeping her bound to you?" The emotion in her voice caught both men off guard. Walter felt a swell of pride while Alucard looked bored, unbothered by her concern.

"I'm simply granting her a taste of freedom," he mused, his voice smooth as silk. "But there's a catch—it all hinges on the strength of her will. We vampires are slaves to our cravings, and it's that very weakness that brands us as monsters. So, should our little dove dare to fly too close to the sun, rest assured I'll be there to catch her when she tumbles and confine her back to her cage."

Walter's calm navy eyes shifted toward Alucard, his surprise evident as he took in the sadistic vampire's unexpected intensity.

Never before had he overheard such a possessive tone directed at the Police Girl. A spark of curiosity ignited within him about the nature of their bond. Something significant had driven her away, but what could it possibly be?

A dark, sinister voice echoed in Walter's mind, a chilling reminder of the danger lurking beneath the surface.

Curiosity killed the cat.

With dread creeping into his thoughts, Walter diverted his gaze from Alucard, and unease crossed his face. Integra, sharp-eyed and perceptive, caught the silent exchange between them and let out a frustrated sigh, the tension in the air almost palpable.

"It's deeply troubling that you would treat Seras this way," Integra expressed disappointedly. "She deserves to be seen as her own person, not as someone's possession." The warmth of compassion stirred within her, prompting a scoff from the vampire in response.

"You forget, my master, that Seras and I are forces of chaos and darkness bound by a hierarchy. We will endure long after you turn to dust; such is the eternal curse we bear. Seras will come to realize, in time, that in this cold, lonely world, her only true constant is her maker."

Integra felt a chill over her at Alucard's words, but her gaze hardened. She faced the vampire with unyielding confidence.

"You seem to overlook something, my servant."

Alucard raised an eyebrow, a smirk dancing on his lips.

"Oh? And what might that be, my master?"

Resting her chin on her intertwined fingers, Integra leaned forward slightly, her voice steady.

"Seras is a clever young woman. I have every faith she'll find a way to resist her true nature for as long as possible."

The weight of her words hung in the air, but instead of worrying him, they merely rolled off him like dust from a cloak.

"Ha! True enough!" he replied, a flicker of amusement in his eyes. "But perhaps that delay won't come without a little assistance."

Integra's heart tightened at his implication, a prick of anxiety dancing at the base of her skull. The unspoken warning resonated within her.

Do not help her. Let her endure the pain so she may return to me.

"I refuse! You can't possibly think I'd abandon her!" Integra shouted. Alucard merely stared at her, clearly irritated.

"I'm simply saying you shouldn't interfere, my dear master. You should understand that this is between vampires, after all," he said matter-of-factly.

"I've had enough of you! Get out!" Integra snapped, slamming her fists down on the desk. Finally, the silver lion had revealed herself. Walter looked on proudly and silently agreed with her.

"Hmph, as you command, my master."

Alucard lowered his head, bowing mockingly to the huffing woman before him. His body began to melt away before the two humans, and soon, the area where he had been was now barren.

Alucard didn't like that his human master would go to extraordinary lengths to part him and his fledgling. It felt like she took his rights away from him and made sure he never saw his beloved child again. The pain of her betrayal felt like a constant thorn whenever he had to follow her orders.

Standing in his little bat's nest, he saw the young woman had gone to great lengths to live quietly. Though modest in its decorations, the apartment was still quite luxurious and befit Seras well. Integra had spared no expense regarding the little vampire's needs, making him angrier at her.

"You can't just come into my life and destroy me like that again! I don't need you taking all the pieces of myself I've just regained!"

"You never lost yourself, Seras. You've become confused by the humanity you try to retain. There's no need to be afraid of your true nature. You may hate me, but I promise I'll free you from these human bonds."

"I wish to be with the man that I love—the man who is good, kind, and loves me unconditionally, unlike you!"

"It will never work, Seras. The human can't satisfy your appetite the way I can. You claim you love him but forget one significant fact."

"And what is that?"

"You're a monster like me! You've yet to master control over your hunger; I feel it through our bond. That human, you put him in danger with your recklessness! You're lucky I've been there to thwart you."

"I could never! I would never harm him!" She swore.

Seras shook her head in complete denial. However, she knew deep down that he was right. She felt it at random times during their dates. The sight of his clean-shaven face and neck always made her belly ache. Never had she felt it as strongly as when she kissed him tonight.

"Not even you can guarantee such a thing. Come to me and I'll let you experience true ecstacy worry free once more!" Alucard said, tipping his wrist up. He raised it to his mouth and used one of his fangs to cut open the flesh.

Seras tried to turn away but paused when she smelled that rich, sweet, metallic scent of ancient blood. She quickly covered her nose and mouth with her hand to prevent any more of it from reaching her senses. Her eyes began turning bright red as she felt the hunger rearing within her again.

"Will you let this precious elixir go to waste, Seras? Come and taste that which you've been longing for."

Seras felt her vampiric desire eclipse all of her rationality at that moment. She slowly turned to him and approached, drawing close to him. Her dainty hands slid up his forearm and pushed down his red sleeve. Her eyes locked with his as she leaned down and licked the wound seductively.

"Mmmm," she moaned hotly.

Seras slurped the blood, lapping at the wound like a starving kitten. Her master stared down at her, looking pleased, but she only wanted to savor the flavor on her tongue.

The blood tasted of his past, and she saw ghostly memories and heard faint whispers from the past. The taste was sweeter than the wine she drank earlier but satisfyingly stuck to her stomach.

"Now that you remember my taste, it's time for me to relearn yours."

Seras didn't have a chance to refuse him as he picked her up and threw her over his shoulder. She squirmed within Alucard's grasp as he carried her down the hall. His long legs moved in strides, and he covered the distance quicker than Seras anticipated. Somehow, she knew she was utterly damned.

End.
