"Pinkie Pie... time to rise and shine, sleepyhead."
Pinkie blinked her eyes open at the sound of Discord's voice and quickly realized she wasn't in her familiar room. The environment reminded her of the vibrant hotel room she had shared with her friends in Manehattan while assisting Rarity. However, the large boxes lined up in the center of the room were completely unfamiliar. As she looked around, her gaze landed on a creature that resembled the humans Twilight had described after her return from the magic mirror. Dressed in a simple white shirt and jeans, he carried an expression that struck her as reminiscent of her older sister.
Pinkie smiled, examining herself only to find she was still a pony. Disappointment flooded her; she had hoped to discover the sensation of hands and feet.
"What an unusual creature you are," the male human remarked, snapping her back to her cheerful demeanor. In an instant, she was nose-to-nose with him.
"Oh, hello! My name is Pinkie Pie! It's a pleasure to meet you! Wow, your hair is so funny! Can I call you Spikey?" she exclaimed, her excitement bubbling over.
"L."
"L? Is that really your name? That's rather dull! Spikey sounds much more fun to say, and it suits you better!" Pinkie maintained her bright smile as she noticed the array of sweets on a nearby table. "Ohhh... you're a fan of sweets too! Do you enjoy cupcakes?"
"Ah, yes, but..." L started, only to be cut off as Pinkie leaped in surprise.
"Does that mean you love parties? The party mare of all of Ponyville has arrived to help! Oh! I need to get started..."
"I'm afraid that with the Kira investigation in progress, such an event would be without purpose," L interjected, his tone as indifferent as ever.
"Wait! An investigation?! Are you a detective?!" Pinkie gasped, and without a moment's hesitation, she donned a deerstalker cap and held a pipe that blew bubbles. "I'll have you know that I once solved a case with my very best friend in the whole wide world..."
L listened as Pinkie animatedly recounted the events aboard the Friendship Express. Although her story was a bit too zany for his taste, he couldn't help but notice how reminiscent it was of Agatha Christie's 'Murder on the Orient Express.' Yet, it felt like a more kid-friendly interpretation of the classic.
"I'm afraid this case is vastly different from the one you solved, Ms. Pie." L's voice shifted, commanding Pinkie's full attention. "We are dealing with a person capable of killing without ever being present at the scene. Most of the public has taken to calling this individual 'Kira,' viewing him or her as a savior. However, following the recent murders of FBI agents, I would argue that 'savior' is a deeply flawed description for Kira."
L was taken aback by Pinkie's reaction; her mane visibly deflated, and he noticed her vibrant color scheme darkening. Her cheerful demeanor transformed into one of profound sadness.
"W-why would they do that?" Pinkie cried, every glimmer of her bubbly personality seeming to vanish from her voice. L sighed, gazing at Pinkie with a measure of empathy.
"Because Kira believes he or she is delivering justice to the world by targeting criminals, even those guilty of minor offenses. Recent developments indicate that Kira is prepared to kill innocent people who attempt to thwart this crusade. I am determined to stop this murderer, with the support of others who are willing to risk their lives as well." The moment he concluded, Pinkie's mane regained its trademark messiness before she rushed off to the kitchen, leaving the detective alone. In silence, L returned to the chair he had occupied before this peculiar creature had entered his life, waiting for Yagami and his team to arrive and confirm whether this surreal situation was truly unfolding before him.
