The story begins in Artisan where a young purple dragon,Spyro wants to become a fighter. He begun training with the other dragons,Flame & Ember. One day,The Dragons,including their leader,Ignitus,are petrified by Nasty Gnorc,who was sent by Ripto. Spyro escapes as Flame & Ember are captured. He ended up in Avalar where he meets Elora the Faun,Hunter the Cheetah,& the Professor.
They explained that Ripto has hated Dragons. Spyro begun training with the help of Sparx the Dragonfly. They ran into Rhynocs at the bar,causing a fight. Sparx was nearly crushed,but Spyro saves him when he breathed fire.
Ripto learns about this and sent Toasty to capture Spyro. He defeating him,Toasty turned out to be a sheep,but not before Sparx gets knocked unconscious. Toasty explains about Ripto's goal.
After Sparx regain consciousness,He & Spyro goes back to Artisan to save the Dragons. Spyro battles with Gnorc and defeats him,sending him to the Lava below. He freed Ember & Flame and confronts Ripto. Ember & Flame freed the other Dragons. Sparx uses the Professor's beaker to create a portal,allowing Spyro to ram Ripto,sending him through and into a frozen wasteland.
Spyro is hailed as a hero by the dragons. He,Ember,& Flame celebrate with some milkshakes. Sparx asks the dragons if this shake comes with Butterflies.
