Chapter 0: Seeds of Power
AGE 528
On Planet Banna, a dark and coppery world with a bright yellow sky, the Saiyan Yamu held a unique fruit in his hand. It was a purplish durian-like fruit with a bright yellow flesh inside. It was one of the few things that Yamu liked about this planet, besides the thrill of fighting.
Yamu grinned as he held the strange fruit, his other hand casually extending toward the trembling figure before him. "So, this fruit has magical properties?" he asked, his curiosity piqued.
The King of the Bannanian race—ruler of this planet—shook his head, eyes wide with fear. "Y-yes…" he stammered.
Yamu glanced at the fruit, intrigued. *Maybe I'll bring this back for Moshi* he mused silently.
With a smirk, he looked back at the terrified king. "Thanks." In an instant, Yamu unleashed a ki wave, obliterating the king in seconds.
Yamu then gazed intently at the fruit, lost in thought, when his crewmate Borot appeared before him.
"Heh, you planning to just stare at that thing all day, or are you actually gonna help us wipe out this planet?" Borot inquired as he gave a crooked smile.
Yamu then turned toward Borot with a mischievous grin.
"I thought you guys would have finished by now" Yamu replied.
Borot scoffed.
"Well, it seems these Bannanians put up more of a fight than we anticipated. But it could've been over by now if yo-" Borot began, but was shortly interrupted by a group of determined Bannanians who had appeared behind them.
Crowds of angry snarls could be heard.
The surviving warriors stood tall, bloodied but unbroken. They were humanoid in shape but unmistakably predatory—shark-like faces, serrated teeth, and thick tails that coiled in anticipation.
Though their numbers had dwindled, they refused to go quietly.
A Bannanian warrior, his armor cracked and singed, stepped forward. His voice was hoarse but filled with defiance.
"We won't let you take our planet!" He shouted,
A rallying cry echoed through the air, and the remaining Bannanians took their stances, their claws glowing with crackling energy. They had lost their king, their city, their families—but they would not fall without a fight.
"Hold this," Yamu said as he chuckled and handed the fruit to Borot.
With a sadistic glint in his eye, he cracked his knuckles and stepped forward. With a playful but menacing smile, he addressed the crowd.
"Let's have some fun, shall we?" Yamu yelled before unleashing a burst of energy and charging into the crowd.
Yamu blurred between them, his fists moving faster than they could register. One moment, a Bannanian was mid-strike—the next, his chest caved in as Yamu's punch shattered his ribs. Another warrior spun toward him, only for Yamu to grab his tail and hurl him into the sky before vaporizing him with a flick of his wrist.
The battlefield lit up with flashes of light, and the Saiyans tore through the resistance like wildfire through dry grass. The once-proud warriors of Banna fell one after another, their cries of pain lost in the thunderous destruction.
Selera, a saiyan from Yamu's crew, caught attention from the screams and landed beside Borot, arms crossed as she watched Yamu in action.
"What's got him in the mood? He was just standing there doing nothing a second ago."
Borot shrugged,
"I don't know, but at least he's helping." Borot said as he watched the carnage unfold as Yamu wiped out the entire Bannanian race in seconds.
Moments later, the battlefield was silent. The last of the Bannanians lay scattered, their bodies reduced to lifeless husks.
Yamu wiped his forehead and took in the destruction with satisfaction.
"Was that all of them?" Selera asked.
Yamu smiled and put his hands on his hips. "Yeah, I think tha-" He paused as he saw some movement in the heap of corpses.
He then quickly raised his palm and fired a ki blast, vaporizing the last survivors.
"Now that's all of them," he said with a grin.
Yamu swiftly flew down, landing on the ground with a thud. Selera, with an angsty tone, remarked,
Selera rolled her eyes. "You really are something, you know? One moment, you're just standing there doing nothing, and the next, you're wiping out an entire race in seconds."
Yamu didn't respond—he just walked over to Borot and held out his hand.
Borot looked at Yamu, knowing what he wanted.
"I don't know why this fruit got you so up in arms, but here you go," Borot said as he handed the fruit to Yamu.
Yamu grabbed the fruit, holding it carefully, and flashed a quick smile.
"Thanks," Yamu said, slipping the fruit into his lether pouch without breaking his gaze.
Suddenly, a noise could be heard in the sky, catching the attention of the three Saiyans. Two whisks of energy then flew down to the ground right in front of them, revealing two other Saiyans.
"What took you two so long?" Yamu said with his hands on his hips.
One of the Saiyans stepped forward.
"Well, I was fighting those Bannanians until Koran got spotted by a large group of them. So I had to help her out, but eventually got myself overwhelmed as well!" said the Saiyan.
This made Koran furious. She clenched her fists and gritted her teeth, feeling a surge of anger at Carole's words. She then took a step forward too.
"I got spotted and overwhelmed?!" Koran yelled out at Carole.
"No, what Carole meant to say is that he blew up a town, causing all the citizens from the town to gang up on us all at once!" Koran said furiously.
"That's not what happened!" Carole said, matching her anger.
"Yes, it is!" Koran argued back.
Eventually, both Saiyans started to argue back and forth until Yamu stepped in.
"That's enough," Yamu said in a demanding tone, causing the two Saiyans to stop.
"What's done is done. We can't spend hours arguing about the past."
This caused both Saiyans to nod while looking begrudgingly at each other.
"Besides, this planet is now ready for sale." Yamu said while he patted his leather pouch, feeling the weight of the fruit inside.
"It's time to head back and report this to Olave."
The Saiyans nodding in unison headed to their respective space pods, their boots crunching against the scorched ground.
Yamu reached into his pocket, pulling out a small remote. With a press of a button, his pod's hatch hissed open. Without hesitation, he stepped inside settling into his space pod.
As Yamu began programming the coordinates, he noticed a faint reflection in the pod's glass—something blinking near his ear.
He furrowed his brow and tapped at the small device.
"Oh yeah… this thing". Yamu muttered.
He had completely forgotten about it. He never turned the thing on.
Curious, he pressed a button on the side.
Immediately, Selera's voice crackled through. "Yamu, did you seriously have your scouter off this whole time?!"
"What about it?" Yamu said, confused.
Selera let out an exasperated sigh.
"The scouter! You know, the thing that lets us talk across long distances? The one you're supposed to use in battle?"
Yamu then responded, "Oh yeah, that's what this was." Yamu said as he touched the device curiously.
"Eh, It doesn't matter, there wasn't a need for them anyway." Yamu said in a careless tone.
Selera's voice then grew louder through the device, "There obviously was a need since both Koran and Carole got overwhelmed!"
Borot chimed in, "Man I just can't wait to get back home and eat some grub."
Carole's voice then echoed through the device, "It wouldn't have happened if Koran didn't get spotted by the town!"
This statement caused Koran to respond through the device as well, "Me, spotted?! You shot a ki blast at the town!"
The device then filled up with multiple arguments & Bickering between the group of saiyans.
Yamu then sighed, "This is going to be a long trip back."
The space pods then started to sync up, levitating into the air, before shooting out and flying straight through the planet's atmosphere, making their way to Planet Sadala.
The space pods soared silently through the endless vacuum of space for several hours, their journey accompanied only by the constant bickering of Koron and Carole.
Until Finally, their destination came into view.
Yamu leaned forward, peering out the small window of his pod. A smirk tugged at his lips as he eyed the familiar reddish-brown planet before them.
Planet Sadala.
Without warning, the pods came to a sudden halt. A robotic voice chimed through the comms.
"Welcome to Planet Sadala."
In unison, the five space pods then dove toward the planet's atmosphere, speeding through the thick clouds until a vast military complex stretched across the landscape. Dozens of ships and pods were docked within its fortified walls.
Inside the control room, a Saiyan watched the incoming pods through a reinforced window.
"They're back. Open the hatch," he ordered.
His companion nodded, slamming a large red button. With a hiss, the hangar doors slid open, revealing a landing bay lined with warriors and technicians. The pods glided in, slowing at the last second before touching down with heavy thuds.
As the smoke cleared, Yamu and his crew emerged from their vessels.
A smirk crossed the face of the Saiyan who had been watching. He stepped forward, meeting Yamu with a nod.
"Welcome back, Captain Yamu."
Yamu cracked his neck. "Olave."
Olave's gaze flicked to the crew, then back to Yamu. "What's the status of the five planets we sent you to?"
Yamu shrugged "They're all extinct and ready for sale, Olave,"
Olave grinned. "Good work. Any trouble?"
Yamu glanced over his shoulder at Koran and Carole, who were still snapping at each other, then turned back. "Just the usual headache. Nothing major."
Olave chuckled. "Fair enough. I'll report this to the King. Here's your payment."
He handed Yamu a small, specialized card before turning to walk away.
Yamu gripped the card tightly, glancing at his crew. "Alright, let's go cash in."
The group made their way through the streets of Zukon, the bustling city full of activity. Saiyan warriors gathered in training yards, vendors shouted out deals on fresh meat and battle gear, and repair teams worked on battle-damaged ships. It was a city built on conflict, thriving on the spoils of war.
After a short walk, they arrived at a vendor's stall. Yamu slapped the card down on the counter.
"I'm here to cash this in and collect my reward"
"Our reward, you mean," Seller corrected, arms crossed.
Yamu rolled his eyes. "Yeah, that's what I meant," he muttered begrudgingly.
The vendor nodded then took the card and inserted it into a device. A moment later, a robotic voice declared, "One million Zeons," as several sacks of gleaming silver coins spilled onto the counter.
The vendor handed the coins over to Yamu, who nodded in thanks before turning to leave.
"Man, all that fighting worked up an appetite. Let's hit up Platte and get some meat!" Borot exclaimed, patting his growling stomach.
Yamu paused. "I'd love to, but I've got somewhere to be."
Borot raised an eyebrow. "Somewhere more important than food?"
Yamu handed out his crew's share of the reward before answering. "Yeah, my kid's being born today. I gotta get there in time."
The entire crew looked at him in disbelief.
"Wait, it's today?" Koran asked.
"Yeah, that's why I pushed to get back home so fast," Yamu said, scratching the back of his head.
Borot let out a short laugh. "You mean we were racing through space so you wouldn't miss your kid being born? And you didn't tell us?!"
Yamu shrugged. "Didn't seem relevant."
Selera pinched the bridge of her nose. "Unbelievable."
Yamu smirked, giving them a casual wave. "Anyway, catch you guys later.
Before anyone could respond, he kicked off the ground and shot into the sky, leaving his crew shaking their heads as he sped toward home.
As Yamu's home came into view, he dropped from the sky and landed lightly on the ground. Walking toward the front door, he pushed it open and stepped inside, shutting it softly behind him.
The familiar comfort of the house greeted him as he glanced around the living room. His eyes fell on a framed photo of him and his wife, Moshi. He picked it up, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. Just then, a loud noise interrupted his thoughts.
Thud!
Startled, he put the photo back down and followed the sound to the bedroom door. As he reached for the knob, the door flew open, revealing a woman who looked exhausted and stressed.
"Oh, thank Kai you're here!" she exclaimed, visibly relieved. "I've been struggling to keep her still—she's been... aggressive."
As if on cue, a loud scream echoed from the room behind her.
"Aghhh!"
Yamu and the woman exchanged looks, her eyes full of expectation.
"You want me to help, don't you?" Yamu asked, already knowing the answer.
She nodded quickly. "I'm getting towels. You deal with her until I get back."
Before Yamu could respond, she hurried off, leaving him alone with the commotion coming from the bedroom. Yamu exhaled, rubbing the back of his neck before pushing the door open.
Inside, Moshi lay on the bed, groaning in pain, her hands clutching her swollen belly, her eyes squeezed shut. At the sound of the door closing, she turned her head and spotted Yamu. Her expression immediately darkened, and she crossed her arms, glaring at him.
"Well, well, look who finally decided to show up," she said through gritted teeth, her voice thick with frustration.
Yamu moved to sit in a chair beside her. "Hey, are you okay?" he asked, his tone gentle.
Moshi scoffed. "Does it look like I'm okay?" Another sharp groan escaped her as she clenched her jaw. "And where the hell have you been? You were gone for five months!"
"I told you I was going on patrol before I left," Yamu defended.
"Yeah, and you said you'd be gone one month!" she snapped, eyes narrowing. "And then nothing. No message. No visit. Just poof—gone!"
Yamu shrugged. "Olave offered me extra work. I took it. Didn't think it'd take that long, but I'm here now, right?" He flashed her a sheepish grin.
Moshi shot him a glare that could melt steel.
"You're lucky I'm stuck in this bed, Yamu. If I wasn't—"
"You'd be kicking my ass?" Yamu smirked. "I doubt it. I've gotten stronger while you've been stuck here."
A flicker of challenge passed through Moshi's pained expression. "Oh? Is that so?" Her lips curved into a mischievous smirk despite the labor pains. "Then I guess we'll just have to test that after this baby business is over."
Yamu chuckled, but before he could fire back, Moshi winced again, gripping her stomach as another wave of pain hit.
Seeing her like that gave him an idea. He reached into his pouch and pulled out a strange, deep-purple fruit.
Moshi eyed it warily. "What's that?"
"Something I picked up from Planet Banna," Yamu said, rolling it in his palm. "The king there swore it had 'magical properties.' Figured it might help."
Moshi eyed him skeptically. "And you believed him?"
"Not really, but it's worth a shot."
After a moment of hesitation, she snatched it from his hand and took a bite. Instantly, her face twisted in disgust.
"Ugh! That tastes awful!"
Yamu smirked. "Yeah, he did mention that part."
"Do you feel anything?" Yamu asked hopefully.
"I don't—" Moshi started to say, but before she could finish, a green aura flared around her, crackling with energy before settling down again. Her eyes widened in shock.
"The pain… it's gone." She flexed her fingers, touching her stomach as if to make sure. "What the hell?"
Yamu grinned. "Well, that's good news!"
Before Moshi could question it further, the woman returned, arms full of towels. "Alright, I've got what we need. Let's get this over with."
Yamu moved closer to Moshi, kneeling by her side. He took her hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. She looked at him, a tired but grateful smile crossing her face.
Nodding back at her, Yamu whispered, "We've got this."
The minutes that followed were intense, but when the cries of a newborn filled the air, everything else faded.
The woman carefully wrapped the small, squirming bundle in cloth and smiled. "And here's your baby boy."
Carefully, she handed the newborn to Moshi, who gazed down at him in awe. The baby let out a loud cry, filling the room with the sound of new life.
"Wow... he's adorable," Moshi whispered, her voice filled with wonder despite the baby's insistent wailing.
Yamu leaned in closer, grinning as he inspected his son. "Well, looks like he's already inherited your knack for complaining," he teased.
Moshi shot him a playful glare, giving him a hard nudge. "Hmph."
Ignoring Yamu's joke, she turned her full attention back to the baby, her expression softening as she gazed into his tiny, blinking eyes. A warm smile spread across her face.
The woman, still cleaning up, glanced at them. "Have you two decided on a name?"
Moshi glanced at Yamu, her brow furrowing slightly. "You know, we never actually decided on one, did we?" she asked.
Yamu shook his head. "Guess not."
For a moment, they just looked at each other. And then, as if the answer had always been there, their gazes returned to the child.
"Yamoshi"
