A/N: This kinda came up randomly in my head. I've noticed in a lot of people's stories or fanfics that a lot of times couples will have sort of pet names they give their significant other (usually related to something about that person) and I hadn't thought of that for either Ren or Yusei. I think they just used the typical nicknames. Well, uh, let's say a potential story idea might have inspired this.

Pet Names:

(Yusei's POV)

"Hey, Ren?"

"Yeah?"

"Any opinions on pet names?"

"Wha—ow!" There was a clang from the kitchen and I quickly looked over the back of the couch to see him rubbing the back of his head.

"You okay?" I asked, concerned.

"Yeah, nothing bad. Just brought my head up too quick. Anyway, what do you mean by pet names?"

"You know, nicknames that girlfriends and boyfriends tend to give each other. Jack, Crow, and Akiza have gotten on my case on how we just use our names with each other."

"Pff, what, does 'honey' not count any more?" He removed the apron he had been wearing while working on lunch, setting it on the counter top.

"Nope, apparently not anymore. It's got to be original nowadays."

"Ugghhh, why do people got to be so damn nosy? Is this karma for me taunting Jazz back at school for her nicknames?" He came out of the kitchen and walked to the couch. He plopped hard on the empty space to my left. "I dunno. How 'bout you spitball something and I'll roll with it."

"Seriously?"

"Hey, either that, or I can repeat what title they gave you during the Fortune Cup."

I rolled my eyes. "All right, all right. Give me a second." I wracked my brain for a few ideas. It was very tempting to come up with something tied to him being a singer, but then something else came to mind. Ren had showed off a lot of movies he enjoyed which tended to involve a lot of fantasy with kingdoms and knights and royalty. Oh...there's an idea, I thought with a bit of a smirk. "I think I might have something."

"Okay, what is it?" Jace had come up to the couch and hopped into Ren's lap as he spoke. Ren started petting the black cat.

"How about...'Prince?'"

Ren paused in what he was doing, a slight confused look on his face. Then it started registering what I had said and his cheeks started turning pink. "H-Huh?"

"Why not? A lot of the movies you like have the theme of some form of medieval times with fantasy elements."

"Well, not all of them. There was the one with the future-esque stuff and also the shapeshifting girl..."

"Plus you are a bit like a prince."

"Wha—since when?!"

"Last I checked, you're still the nephew to the Seto Kaiba. That's probably the closest thing nowadays."

"Oh my God, just 'cause he's my uncle doesn't make me a successor to the whole company!" Ren covered his red face while Jace was looking a bit annoyed to being ignored.

"So...is that a no?"

"I didn't say that." There was a bit of a pause. Jace hopped down since he wasn't getting any more attention and wandered off elsewhere. Ren pulled down his hands. "W-Well, if I'm supposed to be your 'Prince,' then that means you're the 'Knight!'"

"Knight, huh?"

"Yeah because, well, they stick by their princes and usually...save them...I just realized what that's going to mean for me now..."

I chuckled, pulling Ren closer to me which he responded with a slight yelp. "Okay, so it's settled then? I'm your Knight, and you're my Prince?"

"Y-Yeah...I guess that settles it."

"Good. Hopefully that gets everyone off our backs." There was a bit where we sat like that in silence before I spoke up again. "Though, I guess in thinking about it, Jack might have a word or two about those pet names..."

"Pff, if he has such an issue, then he can come up with something original for between him and Carly, then."

A/N: Well, not quite the double post for the Christmas time (since it's like midnight where I'm at and well past that in other places). And yeah, I've got an AU all around princes and knights and all that. Though, if I can actually get certain scenes written...it might have to be strictly AO3 since...well, I think you can imagine. Unless I post a heavily censored version on here.

Also! Anyone want to take a guess on what movie Ren referred to with the future setting and shapeshifting girl? I'll give a hint: it was a Netflix movie based on a webcomic of the same name (though it has a vastly different plot than the original comic).

And going to do another reminder of the poll I've got up (mostly due to the fact I've delved back into the DM era of Yu-Gi-Oh! and all which means a different set of OCs and canon/OC pairings and all that).
