Gwen's life wasn't easy, she had been the target of school bullies ever since she started going to elementary school. The bullies would do usual bully stuff, like shove her in a locker, throw her in a trash can, throw food at her and more. Gwen was forced to endure all of this, what's worse was that her parents didn't really do anything about it. They were sort of neglectful and a bit harsh towards her, but Gwen pushed on. Now that it was summer vacation, she could catch a break. Unfortunately, there were still some problems that kept on bugging her. One of them was her recurring hyperopia (farsightedness). Sometimes, this condition of hers would appear and give her problems. It caused objects near her to become blurry and hard to look at. Though Gwen didn't always have hyperopia, it was still a problem.

Meanwhile...

Gwen had ordered something from FedEx, after she paid for her package she got it and took it in the Rustbucket with her. She was alone right now, Ben and Max were away at Mega Mart. She was expecting a new diary. However, when she opened the package she was surprised. The diary didn't look like the one she ordered, but she opened it anyway to see what it looked like inside. When she did, she saw a bunch of strange symbols on the pages. Turns out, this diary was used. Gwen was about to call FedEx to complain, but before she could do so the diary lit up.

FLASH!

"Wh-What was that?!"

Gwen was surprised! She didn't expect the diary to do that! Then, the back of its front cover filled in the blank that was after the words "Property Of:" with her full name Gwendolyn Cathryn Tennyson. This was strange, why did it do that? She dropped the diary in surprise.

PLOP!

Gwen was wondering why the diary just did that. Then, the symbols in it turned into letters that she could recognize. They were translated into English. Gwen read one of the quotes in the diary out of curiosity.

"S-Soralis... Eratanichia?"

FLASH!

"AAH!"

Huge bolts of electricity came out of Gwen's hand, making her accidentally break one of the Rustbucket's windows. "Oh man! I accidentally broke the window!" she said. Then, she realized what the "diary" actually was. It was a spell book. What else would use incantations to make something happen? Just then...

"Hey Gwen, we're back- -WHAAA?!"

Ben and Max had returned from Mega Mart. To their surprise, there was a huge crack on the Rustbucket's right middle window. Then, Max asked "Gwen wh-what's this?!". "Uhhh... I think you guys need to take a look at this!" Gwen replied. Max and Ben then came in, before they saw Gwen holding the book. "You got your new diary?" asked Ben, "I thought I did, but it turns out it was a spell book! When I read one of its spells, it made electricity come out of my hand. I accidentally broke the window. Sorry grandpa." replied Gwen. "I-It's alright sweetie, l-let's just take a look at what that thing really is." Max added.

A Few Minutes Later...

"Well, looks like it is a spell book." said Max as he found out that the "diary" was indeed a spell book, Gwen had also shown Max and Ben what happened at the back of its front cover. "Shouldn't we just let her keep it? I mean... the book chose her as its owner." said Ben, but before Max could reply...

FLASH!

A huge flash of lightning appeared in the sky! This was followed by loud and reverberating thunder. The Tennysons looked outside to see what was going on. When they did, they saw two weird people. One had white skin and a skull-like tattoo, while the other had white dyed hair and purple eyes.

"Aha! It's here! You! Give me the spell book, child!"

The man with the tattoo demanded the spell book from Gwen. Gwen was about to give it to him, but Max stopped her and gave her some information about the man that he managed to read online. Apparently, his name is "Hex" and he's an evil magician. With that information, Gwen changed her mind before she said "I'm not giving this to you!". "Very well then, you will soon meet your demise." Hex replied, before he tried using a magic staff (which is called the "Staff of Ages") against her. However, Gwen remembered one of the other spells and shouted "Potenis Otierre!".

FLASH!

Immediately, a white magic shield formed in front of her. Then, the blast from the Staff of Ages was deflected and redirected towards Hex. The blast hit Hex hard, making him accidentally bump into his niece Charmcaster and send them both falling down.

"AAH!"

"AAH!"

THUMP!

THUD!

This made Hex angry, before he got up and tried using more blasts from his staff. Gwen was able to deflect them all, sending them back at him. Two of the blasts managed to hit him, "I-I don't know how she's doing this! Charmcaster! Do something!" shouted Hex. Charmcaster then reached into her weird-looking purse before throwing purple-lined pebbles on the ground. Immediately, the pebbles turned into humanoid, dog-like and bat-like creatures.

ROAR!

Max started firing again using his blaster, while Ben turned into Fourarms. Together, Ben and Max were able to destroy the rock creatures leaving Gwen a chance to deal with both Hex and Charmcaster. "Ocus Borrocus!" yelled Gwen, before a strong tornado appeared. It sucked up both Hex and Charmcaster, before sending them flying high into the sky. "This child is better than we thought." Hex said to himself, "B-But how?! Th-That's impossible!" replied Charmcaster. "Never underestimate the power of the spell book, my niece." Hex replied back before he and Charmcaster disappeared into the distance.

"Well, that takes care of them." said Gwen, before she closed the spell book. "Gwen, do you know what you just did?" asked Ben, "Uhhh... I sent those weirdos into the sky?" Gwen replied. "No, you saved the day!" Ben added, Gwen smiled before looking back into the distance. Hex and Charmcaster were gone, but she had a feeling that this wouldn't be the last time she would see them.

A Few Seconds Later...

"Y'know what? I think I'll keep this. It chose me as its new owner sooo..." said Gwen, before she kept the spell book in her drawer in the Rustbucket. She locked it so no one would easily be able to get to it, "I guess this means I'm officially one of you guys now?" asked Gwen. "Yeah, welcome to the club cuz." replied Ben, Gwen then smiled again. No longer would she be forced to hide for her safety whenever a battle happens. Now, she can defend herself if she wanted to. Gwen's life would change forever from this point on.
