The year had come to a close in Pallet Town, the crisp winter air filling the streets as people began to prepare for the upcoming celebrations. Ash Ketchum, Champion of the Pokémon League, stood by the window of his home, gazing out at the falling snow. His thoughts were a jumble of excitement and uncertainty, knowing that a new year was beginning, one full of possibilities. He was ready for whatever adventure the future held, but there was something—someone—that had been lingering on his mind.

It had been nearly a week since Esdeath's unexpected arrival at his doorstep, and despite his initial resistance, Ash had found himself unable to shake the feeling that something… different was happening. He couldn't ignore the strange connection that was beginning to form between them, even though she was still incredibly intense, cold, and, admittedly, unnerving. But beneath that icy exterior, there was something else, something that made Ash's heart race every time she appeared in his life.

Pikachu, perched on Ash's shoulder, chirped happily as he looked out the window with his trainer. "Pika-pika!" he said, his little tail flicking in delight at the snowflakes falling around them.

Ash smiled and ruffled his Pokémon's fur. "Yeah, buddy, I know. It's pretty nice outside." His smile faltered, and his thoughts turned back to Esdeath. He couldn't believe how persistent she had been. Every day, without fail, she showed up at his house, offering her "protection" and, most recently, her "affection." It was starting to drive Ash a little crazy, especially since every time she was around, his cheeks would turn bright red for reasons he couldn't quite explain.

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door, and before Ash could even respond, the door opened with a gust of icy air. There she was: Esdeath, as striking and intimidating as ever, her long blue hair swirling behind her as she entered the room, a smile tugging at her lips.

"Happy New Year, Ash," she said smoothly, her voice as icy as the weather outside, but the underlying warmth in her tone sent an unexpected shiver down Ash's spine. She was dressed in her usual military attire, though she had a large, fluffy scarf wrapped around her neck, adding a touch of softness to her otherwise cold appearance.

Ash turned quickly, his face flushing. "Esdeath!" He wasn't sure if he was more surprised that she had shown up, or the fact that she had somehow managed to walk right in without him even hearing her approach. "I didn't think you'd show up today..."

Esdeath raised an eyebrow at him, her smirk widening. "Did you really think I wouldn't? I'm not the type to miss important moments with my favorite person."

Pikachu, sensing Ash's growing discomfort, let out a small growl. "Pika pika!"

Esdeath's eyes flickered to Pikachu, and she smiled, her gaze softening slightly. "And hello to you too, little one. Don't worry, I'm not here to steal Ash away from you. Not today, at least."

Ash's face turned crimson. "W-What do you mean by that?!"

She chuckled, stepping closer to him and putting a hand on his shoulder, her touch oddly gentle. "It's simple, Ash. I told you before—I want you. And I want to spend more time with you this year. We've barely scratched the surface, don't you think?"

Ash's heart thudded against his chest. "W-Wait, hold on. You're... you're not being serious about this, are you? I told you, I'm not some—"

"Yes, you are," Esdeath interrupted, her tone playful yet firm. "But that's alright. I'm going to show you that you belong to me, whether you like it or not. But there's something I want to add to our New Year's resolutions."

Ash raised an eyebrow. "A resolution? What do you mean?"

Esdeath smiled mischievously, her icy blue eyes gleaming. "I want to spend more time with you in a way that will make you appreciate me even more. I want to cuddle with you, Ash. All year long."

Ash's face turned a bright shade of red, his mind completely short-circuited by her sudden and bold declaration. "C-cuddle?! What?!"

Esdeath giggled at his reaction, clearly enjoying the effect her words were having on him. "Yes, cuddle. You heard me right." She took a step closer, her voice lowering, as if sharing a secret. "You've been so stubborn, Ash, but I know that if I'm patient enough, you'll come to enjoy it. Imagine... spending the cold nights wrapped up in my arms, staying warm while the world around us freezes."

Ash was frozen in place. His mind was racing, and he could feel his heart pounding in his chest. He tried to force the words out, but his tongue felt heavy. "I-I can't—!"

"Of course you can," Esdeath interrupted, her expression softening ever so slightly. "I'll make sure you're comfortable. You won't be able to resist."

Ash's blush deepened, and he turned his head away, his mind whirling. He had never felt so embarrassed in his entire life. "I... I don't need cuddling! I—I have a goal to accomplish this year, okay? I'm gonna catch all the Pokémon, and befriend them all! That's my goal, and nothing's going to change that!"

Esdeath's eyes sparkled with amusement at his words. "Catch all the Pokémon, huh?" she mused, tapping her finger to her chin thoughtfully. "Well, I suppose that's a noble goal. But you'll need a lot of energy for all of that, won't you? What better way to build up your strength than by resting in my embrace after a long day of... catching?"

Ash stammered, the thought of her arms wrapped around him too much for him to handle. "W-Wait, you can't just mix my Pokémon dreams with your... your cuddling ideas!"

Esdeath stepped closer, her voice now a soft whisper that sent shivers down Ash's spine. "Why not? I'm sure you'll see the benefit soon enough. In fact, I'm willing to bet you'll come to love it. And maybe... just maybe... you'll start feeling the same way about me that I feel about you."

Ash gulped. He couldn't deny that Esdeath had a way of getting under his skin, but this? This was... a bit much for him to handle. Still, despite his protests, a small part of him couldn't help but feel a strange curiosity about her offer. Could he really handle being this close to her?

"I'm not a cuddle type of person," Ash muttered, still unable to meet her gaze.

Esdeath, however, only smiled, her eyes gleaming with a knowing, confident light. "Oh, Ash. You will be. Trust me."

Before Ash could come up with another excuse, Esdeath wrapped her arms around him in a sudden and unexpected hug. Her body was warm, her presence overwhelming, and Ash found himself frozen once again, unable to move. He could hear her heartbeat, steady and calming, as she held him gently, her chin resting on his shoulder.

Ash's heart fluttered uncontrollably in his chest. This wasn't at all what he expected the New Year to bring. "E-Esdeath," he stammered, his voice barely above a whisper.

"I'm not going anywhere, Ash," she murmured softly in his ear. "We've got a whole year ahead of us, and I intend to make the most of it."
