Disclaimer: I do not own Kim Possible.
It was nostalgic.
That was the thought that kept repeating through Kim's mind, as she watched her children go on about their plans for the upcoming prom.
True, things weren't exactly the same. Fashions had altered over the years, the kids had opted to go with a group a friends rather than fuss over dates; and her and Ron would be taking pictures with their phones rather than the old camera her dad had favored. But the whole affair still called forth memories of her own youth; and a day that had proved to be significant turning point in her life.
They sent them off on the big night with smiling faces. Reminding them of curfew, and urging them to have fun and be safe. Their parental doting was met with a mix of fondness and embarrassment; until they all finally piled into the car and headed out.
Waiting up for them was spent cuddled together on the couch, watching TV as Ron idly ate his way through a bag of chips. Rufus wasn't present. Having accompanied the kids in order to "chaperone", giving them some time alone.
Kim's phone beeped, and checking it she smiled. Quickly texting back her response.
"Everything okay?" Ron asked.
"Mm hm," setting the device down, and leaning back into him. "They were just checking in."
"Yeah, I guess we still got some time before they come home," he noted.
She nodded, briefly thinking of the fun they were probably having. Memories returning once again as her thoughts wandered. A dance... ...an embrace... ...a kiss...
"What?"
"Hmm?"
"You're smiling," he grinned, pointing at her face. "What're you thinking about?"
She shrugged, "Just reminiscing, I guess..." green eyes shining up at him. "About our own prom."
"Ah, Junior prom!" he sighed dreamily. "One of the best nights of my life... You know, after the whole Drakken thing was taken care of." Shoving another handful of chips into his mouth.
She chuckled, tucking her legs underneath of her and leaning close. "I'd say the end was definitely worth it," brushing the crumbs from his face, and giving him a kiss.
He made a happy noise, as her lips lingered. A wide goofy grin on his face when she pulled back.
"It'd be nice if we could do it again someday," she remarked casually. Turning her attention back to the show they were now only half watching.
"Yeah...Ooh!" Eyes suddenly popping. "Maybe we can!"
She raised a brow as he turned the TV off, and suddenly stood up. Bending down to move the coffee table out of the way. Clearing out a space.
"Ron? What are you?"
"Just a moment!" holding a finger up as he searched through their music, until he finally found what he was looking for. A familiar song starting to play.
He straightened himself up. Then presenting his most gallant smile offered her his hand.
It took her a moment, her cheeks flushing. "Ron!"
"You said you wanted to do our prom again," he urged again brightly.
She chuckled, "I was actually thinking something more along the lines of going out dancing."
"Oh..." a bit crestfallen now. "Heh, yeah... That probably would be better..."
Wanting to assure him, she stood up. Guiding his arms around her with a sweet smile.
"For now though, this is perfect."
"Really?"
"Mmm hmm," resting her head on his shoulder. "I love when my Ron's being romantic," she sighed, as they swayed together.
He chuckled, holding her close, "Always got you covered there, KP." Still fond of using his childhood nickname for her.
The music and their rhythmic movements took her back to that night so long ago, and to that first embrace. No longer as just lifelong best friends, but also as a newly minted couple.
She could still recall the butterflies in her stomach. The trepidation of making that first leap. But also, a sense of comfort and belonging, as though they were always destined to one day end up here...
Now as he held her, the nervousness was no more. But she could still feel that same comforting warmth blossoming in her chest.
They pulled back to look at each other, another echo of their past. There had been changes over the years, a little wrinkle here and there amidst his freckles; and his lovely brown eyes were now often veiled in glasses. But through it all she could still see the boy she fell in love with, had always loved, all those years ago.
Those eyes hooded over, and she leaned in to meet him once more in a kiss that was just as thrilling, sweet, and tender as the one from that night.
That sweetness however soon melted away. Something far more passionate taking it's place.
"Ron!" she gasped, as their lips parted out of necessity for air. Giggling as he peppered kisses all along her face and neck. Gently guiding them down to floor, and catching her lips again.
"Mmm!" she muffled out, before he released her. "I don't recall this happening at our prom."
"Really?..." kissing her again. "Huh?..." another kiss. "That's a shame..." and another "We should to fix that."
"Ron!" she laughed "We're on the floor."
"Mm hmm," still kissing her neck, and moving lower now, "And we're also supposed to be "two horny teenagers who can't keep their hands off each other", " rising back up to kiss her mouth again before wincing slightly. "...although, yeah actually this is kind of uncomfortable."
"Kind of," she agreed, smirking.
"Come on!" standing up and offering her his hand again. "I think the bedroom's calling us."
She allowed him to help her back to her feet. Laughing loudly as he suddenly swooped her up in his arms bridal style and hurried towards their room. Eager to continue where they left off.
Just another wonderful moment in the life they had shared together for so long, and would continue to share for the rest of their lives... and beyond.
A/N: As to what else happened that night, Kim and Ron's kids had a fun at prom and made it back home safe (no evil villain shenanigans to interrupt). And Rufus was the life of the party. The End!
Ah! I just adore this movie and ship so much. Even after two decades seeing Kimron kiss for first (non-moodulated) time still makes me feel all giddy inside. I love them! ^-^. Hope you enjoyed this little tribute, and thank you for reading.
Also note that while this story is a 20 year anniversary celebration of 'So The Drama'. It does not necessarily take place twenty years after the events of 'So The Drama'. Mostly cause I'm not so sure Kimron would have prom age kids at that point, lol. Still, the concept was cute to me and I really wanted to utilize it. But as to where exactly it would fall into the actual timeline of Kim and Ron's life, I'll leave that up to reader interpretation.
