Chapter 12
Haku Yuki
Her Hollow felt a surge of panic as she glanced down at herself, taking in her tiny, childlike form with dawning horror.
*How had it come to this? She was supposed to be the embodiment of darkness and hatred, a twisted reflection of suppressed pain and anger.*
Yet here she was, no taller than Naruto's knee, her dark power drained and her presence shrinking with every passing second. The realization hit her hard.
"WHY..why why ...I was supposed to be powerful, a force to be reckoned with! Not… not some… some… toddler!" in her squealing child-like voice
Soul Haku, standing a few paces away, watched her hollow counterpart with a mixture of sympathy and skepticism.
*My Hollow might have been small and vulnerable now, but that didn't mean she could be trusted. Her dark energy, though diminished, was still there, flickering faintly around her, like a candle flame that refused to go out.*
"I don't want to hurt you," She said softly, her voice calm but firm. "But I can't let you stay here and cause harm to Naruto. You need to be stopped!"
Her Hollow eyes widened, and she stepped back, her tiny body trembling as she glanced between Haku and Naruto.
"Wait… you don't understand!" she squeaked, her tiny hands raised desperately trying to look non-threatening. "I'm not here to hurt him! I just…"
But before she could finish, She darted forward, her hand glowing with energy as she aimed a strike at her hollow counterpart.
Hollow Haku squeaked in alarm, her tiny body twisting and contorting as she scrambled to dodge, her robes tangling around her legs in her haste.
Naruto couldn't think anything but snort in laughter as he watched Hollow Haku's clumsy attempts to evade Haku's attacks.
It was hard to take it seriously, even as she yelped and scrambled away, her tiny feet barely able to keep up with her intentions.
"Stop moving!" Haku said, her tone exasperated as she tried to corner her tiny counterpart.
"No way!" Her Hollow protested, her high-pitched voice sounding almost like a child's whining.
She dodged another strike, barely managing to keep herself upright as she tripped over her robes again, her tiny form tumbling forward.
Finally, Hollow Haku skidded to a stop, throwing her hands up in a gesture of surrender. "Wait! Wait, please! Just… just listen!" she squeaked, her voice filled with desperation.
"I've just woken up, alright? I was… I was trying to get his attention!"
"There's something you need to understand—something I think you've spent time avoiding."
Haku frowned, her calm gaze hiding a flicker of hesitation. "And what is that?" she asked, her tone guarded.
"You're part of me, yet you represent the darker parts I've tried to move past. I don't want you to influence him"
"Why would I ever want to listen to you?"
The child crossed her arms, a look of frustration crossing her small face. "Because you can't ignore the fact that darkness is as much a part of life as light is."
"Just because something is dark or painful doesn't mean it should be denied. Look at yourself—look at how hard you try to bury anything that doesn't fit your idea of 'good' or 'pure.'"
"Everything has two sides"
Her expression softened, her gaze thoughtful as she absorbed Hollow Haku's words. "Are you saying that I should… embrace pain and darkness?"
Her Hollow shook her head, exasperated. "Not embrace it no! But acknowledge it. Don't pretend it doesn't exist. Don't try to tell me I don't exist"
Haku was silent for a moment, her gaze drifting to the ground. "I've always believed in kindness, in gentleness. Master never taught me about protecting others, about sacrifice."
Hollow Haku interrupted, her red eyes flashing with intensity.
"He was fierce, brutal. He killed without hesitation and did whatever it took to survive. He wasn't afraid of the darkness inside him, Haku. It was that very darkness that allowed him to achieve his goals"
"and protect you. protect us"
The mention of Zabuza sent a ripple through her thought, and she clenched her hands tightly, looking away. "Master was… different,"
She murmured a hint of sorrow in her voice. "He was strong, yes, but he also suffered because of that darkness."
A silence fell between them as Haku processed her hollow self's words. She thought of Zabuza, of the way he had fought with a cold fury yet had always shielded her with that same unyielding strength.
*He was her protector, but he had never sugarcoated the harsh realities of their world. He'd told her once that kindness alone wasn't enough to survive—that sometimes, you had to make choices you didn't like to protect the people you loved.*
She said quietly. "I think I understand now. I don't need to deny you. You're as much a part of me as my compassion, my love. By ignoring you, I'm only hurting myself."
Naruto Uzumaki
Naruto, who had been watching the conversation with quiet confusion, finally spoke up, scratching the back of his head. "So… wait, are you saying it's okay to have a bit of darkness in you?" he asked, glancing between the two Haku.
Haku, though equally confused, let out a soft sigh of relief. "It seems… the hollow part of me couldn't fully manifest,"
She explained, though her voice was tinged with uncertainty. "I think… Naruto-kun, you don't have enough hatred or darkness inside you for her to feed off of."
Naruto blinked, still trying to make sense of it all. "So, because I don't have enough hate… she turned into a kid?"
She nodded, though she still seemed unsure. "It appears that way. The hollow version of me is fueled by negative emotions—anger, hatred, fear. But you, Naruto, have always held onto hope and kindness. There wasn't enough darkness in your heart to sustain her."
He scratched the back of his head, still utterly confused but relieved nonetheless.
"Well, I guess that's a good thing…?"
The little girl version of Hollow Haku stomped her foot, pouting even more.
"This is so unfair!"
Her little version whined, her voice filled with childish frustration. "I was supposed to be powerful and scary! Now I'm just—"
Naruto couldn't help it—he started laughing.
It wasn't that he was trying to be mean, but the sight of this tiny, frustrated version of Hollow Haku throwing a temper tantrum was just too much for him.
"I-I'm sorry," Naruto said between laughs, clutching his stomach. "It's just… you were all scary a minute ago, and now you're… this!"
She, standing beside him, couldn't suppress a small smile of her own, though she still kept a wary eye on the little girl. "It is rather… unexpected."
The little girl glared at them both, her arms crossed and her cheeks puffed out in frustration. "Don't laugh at me! I'm still dangerous, you know!"
He wiped a tear from his eye, grinning down at her. "Yeah, sure."
"Naruto-kun, stop laughing!" the little Hollow Haku squeaked, her high-pitched voice failing to carry the menace she so clearly intended.
She glared up at him, her small hands balled into fists as she tried to look fierce. "I might be small now, but I'm still powerful! I am—"
Naruto chuckled, crossing his arms as he looked down at her. "You're not really helping your case, y'know? Honestly, calling you 'Haku' just seems... wrong now. It's too… serious for someone as cute as you."
The little hollow scowled, her cheeks flushing a faint red as she stomped her foot in defiance. "I'm not cute! I'm the dark part of her soul! I'm meant to be terrifying, not… not some little child for you to laugh at!"
Haku, still amused, knelt down to get a better look at her hollow self. "Naruto might have a point, though," she said gently. "It does seem right to call you by my name all the time. Maybe you need a different name—something that fits you better."
The hollow blinked, her scowl fading as she processed Haku's words. "A… different name?" she echoed, sounding a little uncertain.
Naruto grinned, rubbing his chin thoughtfully as he looked her over. "Yeah! You know, something short and cute. Like… hmm… how about 'Miku'?"
The little hollow's eyes widened, her red gaze flickering with surprise. "M-Miku?" she stammered, her cheeks turning an even deeper shade of red. "Why that name?"
"Because it's cute and small, just like you are right now," Naruto said with a cheeky grin. "I think it fits you perfectly. Miku!"
Miku's eyes shimmered, and for a moment, she looked like she might argue. But then her shoulders slumped, and she looked down, a small smile breaking through her initial resistance. "Miku, huh?" she murmured, testing out the name as if it were something delicate, something she was afraid to break. "I… I guess it's not so bad."
Hollow Haku (Miku)
"Naruto-kun, I need to tell you something… something important." Her voice was soft, hesitant, as though she were afraid of how he might react.
His brow furrowed, and he crouched down to be on her level, his eyes filled with curiosity and concern. "What is it? You look pretty serious all of a sudden."
"I wanted to warn you, Naruto-kun. Kakashi Hatake … He's injured and needs your help!"
Naruto's smile faded, replaced by a look of shock and concern. "Kakashi-sensei… is hurt?"
Haku frowned, studying her hollow counterpart with a scrutinizing gaze. "And we're supposed to believe you?"
She asked, her tone skeptical. "How do we know you're not lying?"
"Because I wanna kill him!"
"Us wanna kill him you don't remember?"
She admitted, her voice thick with remorse. "You and I attacked him and left him for dead."
*She doesn't know?*
Naruto's voice was soft, almost disbelieving. "But why? Why would you both do something like that?"
"WHY?"
Miku nodded slowly, her gaze drifting downward, her expression shadowed by memories and emotions that had haunted her since the day on the bridge.
"Yes. We wanted to hurt him… to make him feel what we felt when he took away the person who meant the most to us."
Naruto's heart twisted painfully at her words, and he glanced over at Haku, who stood silently, her gentle features etched with sadness and a hint of resignation.
She wasn't denying Miku's words—instead, she seemed to be absorbing them, her own gaze filled with a sorrow that mirrored Miku's anger.
"I…" Naruto began, struggling to find the words. "I… I don't understand. I thought… Haku, I thought you were… were dead."
Haku looked up, meeting his gaze with eyes that held an ocean of sorrow. "Naruto-kun," she said softly, her voice filled with a calm understanding.
"There are parts of us that are hard to face, parts that hide anger, pain, and even hatred. I cared deeply for Zabuza-sama… he was my precious person. And when Kakashi took him from me, a part of me did feel anger, resentment, even the desire for revenge."
"I will explain what happens later, okay"
His throat felt tight as he listened to her, his mind racing as he tried to make sense of her words.
Miku looked back up at Naruto, her small frame trembling with the weight of her words. "Naruto-kun," she said quietly, her voice raw with emotion.
"How was I supposed to feel? Zabuza… he was everything to us. He saved us and gave us purpose. And then, in a single moment, Hatake took him away. He destroyed our world."
Naruto felt his chest tighten as he watched her, his hands clenching at his sides. He wanted to say something, anything, to refute her words, to defend Kakashi.
*But as he looked into her eyes, he felt an unsettling sense of understanding. He thought about his own bonds, his precious people, the few who had shown him kindness and acceptance. What would he feel if someone took them away from him?*
*What if someone took Iruka-sensei or Sasuke or Sakura? Would he be able to forgive? Or would he be consumed by the same dark feelings that now tormented Miku and Haku?*
Haku, who had been listening silently, placed a gentle hand on Naruto's shoulder, her eyes filled with understanding and compassion. "Naruto-kun," she said softly, "Miku was still grappling with her darker impulses. It doesn't excuse what us did, but… she's telling you this now because she wants you to save him."
"I… I don't know what I would do if I were in your place, Miku," Naruto admitted his voice barely a whisper, filled with a heaviness he rarely allowed himself to feel.
"If someone took away one of my precious people… I'd probably feel the same way. I'd want to make them pay. I'd want them to hurt."
Naruto clenched his fists, struggling to process the information. The thought of Kakashi lying injured somewhere, possibly even dying, made his heart twist painfully.
The admission made him feel vulnerable, and exposed, but he couldn't deny the truth of it. It was a reality he had never confronted, a darkness he had pushed away in favor of his dream to protect and bring peace.
But at this moment, faced with Miku's raw pain, he felt it too—the potential for anger, for vengeance, lurking within him.
But even as anger bubbled up inside him, he forced himself to take a deep breath, reminding himself that he could change this.
"Miku, Haku," he said softly, looking back up at them. "I… I can't say I know what you went through. But Kakashi-sensei isn't a bad person. He's… he's someone who's been through a lot too. Just like you. He was only trying to protect us. To protect me."
He looked back at her, his gaze intense but laced with concern. "Miku… if Kakashi-sensei is in danger, I have to go help him. But why are you telling me this now? You could've kept it to yourself."
"Because I don't want you to waste time here"
"I… I prove to you I didn't come here just to cause harm,"
Naruto leaned in closer, his blue eyes filled with warmth and sincerity as he studied her. "Miku," he said softly, his voice steady. "You don't have to keep all that anger inside. I know it must feel like you're bound to it like it's the only thing holding you together… but that's not true. You're part of me now, just like Haku. And that means I care about you too."
Miku's eyes narrowed, and she crossed her arms, trying to maintain her defensive posture. "Care about me?"
*What*
She scoffed, though her voice held a hint of confusion. "Why would you care about me? I was born from Haku's hatred and pain. I exist because of the bitterness and anger she couldn't let go of."
He shook his head, his face calm but unwavering. "That's exactly why I care about you," he said, his voice filled with conviction. "You're a part of Haku, and now you're a part of me too. You're like… another precious person to me."
*Precious person?*
The little girl blinked, taken aback, and for a moment, her confident façade slipped, revealing a glimpse of the confusion and doubt that simmered beneath the surface. "A… precious person?" she echoed, her voice softening as if the concept was foreign to her.
He nodded, his gaze unwavering. "Yeah. Precious. Just like everyone else who's come into my life. And I don't want you to feel like you have to stay in the dark, Miku. There's a different way, a way that doesn't have to be about revenge."
Miku's face twisted, a mixture of frustration and sadness, and she looked away. "You don't get it, Naruto-kun," she muttered. "All I've ever known is darkness. I was created from it, molded by it. Haku couldn't let go of her pain, so here I am. How can I just… walk away from that?"
Naruto took a deep breath, searching for the right words to reach her. He understood the struggle of carrying darkness inside oneself, of feeling trapped by pain. He knew, in a way, that they were alike. "Miku, it's not easy. But I've been through my share of pain too. I've felt alone, unwanted, even hated. For a long time, I thought that was all there was for me. But then… people started to see me for who I am. They showed me there's more to life than just pain."
She was silent, her gaze flickering back to meet his. She was listening, and Naruto knew he had to keep going, to try and bridge the gap between them.
"You're not just anger or hatred," He continued. "You're a part of Haku, yeah, but you're also more than that. You've got your own choices now, Miku-chan. You can choose to be more than just a shadow."
A faint smirk crossed Miku's lips, and she raised an eyebrow, a glint of humor in her eyes. "And what? Do you think I can just magically change? Just like that?"
He chuckled softly, shaking his head. "No, not magically. It's going to take time. But I'll be here. We'll work on it together if you want."
Miku's face softened, her gaze lingering on Naruto's, a flicker of something almost like hope sparking in her eyes. For a moment, she seemed lost in thought, the faintest trace of a smile playing at the corners of her lips.
"You're… really strange, Naruto-kun," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper.
Naruto grinned, giving her a warm look. "Yeah. I guess I'm just weird like that."
A strange look passed over Miku's face—a mixture of surprise and resignation. She looked down at her small hands, her fingers curling and uncurling as if she was testing out this newfound sense of belonging, this unfamiliar feeling that maybe, just maybe.
*NOOO*
"Alright, Naruto-kun," she said quietly, a faint smirk tugging at her lips. "Maybe change isn't so bad after all."
Naruto's heart swelled with hope as he nodded. "I think you'll find that there's a lot more to do than just anger, Miku-chan. And who knows? You might even like it."
She looked back up at him, and for the first time, her face softened into a genuine smile, a small but meaningful gesture that seemed to melt away some of the tension between them.
"I'll give it a shot, Naruto-kun," she said, her voice steady. "You can't run from me now."
Naruto chuckled, reaching out and gently ruffling her hair. "No chance of that, Miku-chan. You're part of my life now. I'm not going to let you go."
With that, he closed his eyes, focusing his energy on waking up. The strange, otherworldly landscape of his mind began to dissolve around them, and he felt the pull of reality tugging him back.
As he drifted back into consciousness, he caught one last glimpse of Miku standing there, her small frame shrouded in the fading light.
She smirked, crossing her arms with a confident look that was somehow both mischievous and endearing.
"Change is good, Naruto-kun," she murmured, her voice echoing softly. "Maybe it'll be good for you too."

Character info
Miku (Hollow Haku)
After transforming into a more childlike form, Miku presents a stark contrast to the original Hollow Haku's dark and ominous presence. She is small, barely reaching Naruto's knee, with delicate features and a ghostly elegance. Miku has snow-white hair that falls in soft waves to her shoulders, accentuating her large, crimson eyes, which carry both an intense sharpness and a flicker of sadness.
Her skin is pale, almost translucent, giving her an ethereal, fragile quality. She wears an oversized robe reminiscent of Haku's traditional attire, though it hangs loosely around her small frame, often slipping from her shoulders, adding to her vulnerable, almost doll-like appearance.
