Chapter 95- Calamine Lotion

Kristina and Molly dropped beside Alexis and wrapped their arms around her.

"What's going on?" Lucas walked around the corner. "Dante?"

Dante was sitting on the bench crying into his hands. "Sam's gone…. She's dead."

Lucas burst into tears. "What? From the stabbing?"

"We're going to investigate further," Patrick spoke up.

Alexis pulled herself up and leaned against Kristina and Molly. "I need to see her."

"No, Mom," Kristina said. "You can't."

"Krissy's right," Molly said, wiping her tears away. "You don't want to see her like that. None of us should. We need to remember her how she was."

"The kids need to know," Dante cried.

Lucas patted his shoulder.

Alexis started to reach for the door but turned around. "I will tell Danny and Scout."

GHGHGH

Sasha arrived at the Quartermaines and headed to the barn. She found Olivia with Leo who was brushing one of the horses.

"Hi, is Cody here?" Sasha asked.

"He's gone to the orchard to pick some apples," Olivia said.

"Thanks."

Olivia watched her leave, then she pulled out her phone when it rang. "Oh, hi Dante, sweetheart. How is Sam?"

"Not good, Ma," Dante cried. "She didn't make it. Sam is dead."

Olivia's heart sank. "What? I don't understand. I thought the doctors said…."

"They said she was going to be fine, but she's not. She's gone."

"Okay, I'll be there as soon as I can," Olivia said. "I just have to get Leo back to the main house. But I better tell him too. I love you and stay strong." She slipped her phone away and looked over at Leo. "Leo, sweetheart, come sit down."

"But I'm brushing Buttercup," Leo said.

"I know, but I need to tell you something important. It's about your sister."

Leo set the brush down and sat with Olivia on the bench. "Is Sam coming over?"

She stroked his hair. "No, sweetheart. You see, Sam was at the hospital because she got hurt."

"Hurt how?" Leo asked.

"Somebody hurt her really badly. And she didn't make it."

"What do you mean?"

"Your sister died, sweetheart," Olivia said. "She's gone to Heaven. I'm so sorry."

Leo's lip trembled and he hugged her.

Sasha made her way through the trees and spotted Cody walking towards her carrying a basket of apples.

"Oh, hey Sasha. I just grabbed some apples for the horses." He leaned forward to kiss her. "How's it—? What's wrong?"

Sasha backed away from him. "We need to talk…."

He looked at her concerned. "What's wrong?"

She sat on a bench and he sat beside her.

"My mother is back in town," Sasha said. She pushed away some leaves from the bush rubbing up against her.

"I thought your mother was dead," Cody said, shoving some leaves aside too.

"She is dead to me, but physically she's still alive. And she's just revealed who my father is. I didn't believe her at first. I was in denial, but we had a DNA test done."

"Who's your father?" Cody asked.

"Robert Scorpio."

GHGHGH

"Hey, Esme." Robin returned to her room after Maxie took Ace. "We're just about ready. I just want to ask you a few questions first. What is your current address? I know you moved out of your mom's…."

"No, I'm going back," Esme said. "As soon as I can leave."

Felicia smiled.

"Okay, that's good to hear," Robin said. "When was the last time you ate something?"

"Last night."

"Okay, that's actually perfect," Robin continued. "Are you on any medication?"

"No," Esme said.

"Do you have any allergies?" Robin asked. "Or health conditions?"

"Some type of lotion," Esme said.

"What kind of lotion?"

"I don't know. Maggie tried putting it on me when I had the chicken pox, but I broke out in hives from head to foot and my face and tongue swelled up bad. I had to go to the hospital because I couldn't breathe. I don't know what it was called. It was thick and pink."

Felicia raised an eyebrow.

"Do you mean calamine lotion?" Robin asked.

"Yeah, that sounds familiar," Esme said.

"You're allergic to calamine lotion, Frankie?" Felicia asked. "That's… random."

Esme nodded.

"You should have an epi-pen for that. And that severe of a reaction to it is pretty rare. But that allergy runs in my family. In fact, all of us have it. My kids, me, my dad, Uncle Mac. So, that's kind of strange." She wrote that down. "Moving on, how are the cuts on your arms and hips from the glass?"

"They sting, but the nurse said it wasn't deep," Esme said. "She just cleaned them."

"Okay, Esme, I better wheel you down to the OR now," Robin said.

Felicia kissed Esme's temple. "I'll be going between Georgie's room and the waiting room, but I'll be right here when you get out of surgery."

GHGHGH

Cody laughed and scratched his neck which was turning red from the leaves. "Robert Scorpio? As in my new Uncle Robert? That's a good one."

"It's true, Cody," Sasha said. "I wish it wasn't…. What is this?" She rose and pushed the leaves away. "I'm so itchy."

Cody looked at the bush. "Oh no. It's poison ivy. We better get back."

"I'm not finished talking though."

"It was funny for a minute, but don't carry it on, okay? You being Robert's daughter would mean…. Well, let's get back and see if the Qs have something for poison ivy."

They headed back to the main house and found Brook Lynn in the kitchen.

"Hey, think you can help us?" Cody asked. "We ran into some poison ivy. Got cream or anything?"

"Yeah, I think we have something. Hang on." Brook Lynn disappeared and returned a few minutes later with a pink bottle and cotton balls. "Here's some calamine lotion."

Sasha dipped a cotton ball in the lotion and dabbed her neck with it.

Cody shook his head. "Fraid I can't use that. I'm allergic to calamine lotion. It would give me a worse reaction than the poison ivy. Got anything else?"

"No, but I can send one of the staff to the drug store," Brook Lynn said.

Danny, Rocco, and Scout returned to the hospital with the cupcakes and two trays of teas and hot chocolates for everyone. But they could feel the sadness in the air when they reached the waiting room.

Rocco swallowed hard. "Grandma? Dad? What's going on?"

Olivia rose and hugged him. "Your Dad and I need to tell you something."

Danny looked at Alexis' blotchy eyes. "Grandma?"

Alexis pushed aside her tears and rose. "Danny, Scout, I need to talk to you privately."

"What's wrong, Grandma?" Scout asked.

They set down the cupcakes and drinks, then she led them to an empty room.

Rocco sat down between Olivia and Dante. Kristina and Molly headed to the cafeteria, crying on each other's shoulders.

"Rocco…." Tears streamed down Dante's cheeks. "I—I don't know how to say it." He looked to Olivia.

Olivia squeezed Rocco's shoulder. "The doctors worked very hard to help Sam, but they couldn't save her. Sam died, Rocco."

Rocco's mouth dropped and his eyes filled with tears. Olivia and Dante hugged him.

GHGHGH

Danny and Scout hopped onto the bed and Alexis sat between them, draping an arm around each of them. "Do you know how much your mom loved you?" Alexis choked up.

"Loved?" Danny asked. "As in past tense?"

"Your mom was so strong," Alexis said. "So, so strong. But even the strongest people can't beat everything. You see your mom… the doctors…."

"Grandma?" Danny spoke up. "Is Mom dead?"

Alexis cried and held them close.

Scout gasped. "Mommy's dead? Why?"

"I don't understand it, Cookie," Alexis said. "But sometimes these things just happen."

Danny cried onto Alexis' shoulder.

"But where did she go?" Scout asked.

"She went to Heaven," Alexis said.

"But I want to go with her," Scout said.

"I wish I could too," Alexis said. "But we can't. I know it's not fair. But we'll always have each other." She kissed both of their heads.

GHGHGH

Cody sat with Sasha at the kitchen table after one of the maids returned with some menthol cream for Cody.

"So, I was thinking maybe this weekend we could hit the Metro Court," Cody said. "Maybe we could even rent a room. I know we've been waiting. But I thought maybe we might be ready now—"

"Cody…." Sasha shook her head. "Don't you understand? We can never be together. Ever. Your Uncle Robert is my father. We are first cousins."

Cody stared at her. "No. This isn't true."

"I was in denial too, but Robert and I did a DNA test…." She pulled the paper out of her purse to show him.

Cody read it over then threw it. "Your mom rigged the DNA test."

"That's what I thought too. But there's no way she could have. We did it through the WSB."

He got up and started pacing. "Well, she must have found a way, Sasha."

"Look, I hate this as much as you," Sasha said. "But what that test says is true. Robert Scorpio is my father."

Cody pressed a fist to his forehead. "But Sasha, then that means…."

"That we're first cousins."

Cody grabbed at his hair, then pushed everything off the table. He stormed out.

GHGHGH

Felicia couldn't sit still in the waiting room. It was thirty minutes past the time Esme's surgery was scheduled to be finished and she hadn't heard anything.

She jumped up when Robin finally came out.

"How is she?" Felicia asked.

Robin took a deep breath. "Felicia, did you know that Esme has hemophilia?"

"What? No."

"She didn't mention it before the surgery," Robin said. "It could be she doesn't know. We were able to repair her tibia, but she won't stop bleeding."

"Oh my gosh…."

"We're need to give her a blood transfusion, but there's a wait list for the blood clinic. I'm afraid we can't wait."

"I'll do it," Felicia said. "I'll give blood."

"Go to the lab and I'll speed up the results," Robin said. "We need to find out if you share the same blood type. I'll call Maxie to have her get tested too. Same with Kevin. Georgie is too weak to donate."

"Okay, thanks, Robin." Felicia ran to the elevator.

Patrick made his way to the nurse's station. "Amy, I need you to call the police."

"What for?" Nurse Amy asked.

"Sam McCall's body is missing."

GHGHGH

Lucas balled his fists, his blood boiling as he made his way down the hallway. How could he have just left his sister bleeding there for so long? He had to confront Nelle for what she did to his big sister. He could kill her for it. His eyes widened when he turned a corner. The guard outside Nelle's room was sprawled out on the floor in a pool of blood. He looked inside the room to find the handcuffs dangling from Nelle's bed, with Nelle nowhere to be found.
