From his seat in the mastodon, Naruto was looking at a screen showing updates on the runaway draugr. The good thing was that it was not fleeing in the direction of civilization. The bad news was that it was moving towards the mountains for more cover while building up its forces. The more that this is drawn out the longer the ground war would last. The combat above in space was a different story. Despite the fact the fact that the Covenant were taking significant loses, they just reinforced them. They seem to want to open up a new front on the planet, but it was impossible for them at the moment.
A alert appeared on the console allowing for him to open it up and see a video screen of the rear of the fleeing draugr. "Nawaki, Azula, Tsuki" spoke Naruto gaining the attention of the rest Phoenix Team who were in the vehicle with them. The mentioned three made their way to the middle to open the top latch and step out.
The three were greeted to dust and sand all around as they were part of a large ground force chasing after the draugr. The skies above them were lit up with air combat as the Covenant air forces were trying to keep their own air forces away. The three latched onto the roof of the moving vehicle with a combination of the suit's magnets and their chakra. The three formed their own hand seals in preparation for their own jutsu.
Finishing first, Azula threw her arms out allowing for electricity to flow down it and shoot out of them forming a large electric dragon. With a roar it moved forward and smashed into the draugr's rear engines causing severe damage and explosions. Nawaki finishing next made wood spikes shoot out from the ground to stab into the fortress, damaging its movability. Finishing it up Tsuki had chakra chains with spikes on them smash and rip through portions of the fortress.
Having sustain heavy damages the hovering fortress fell to the ground in a slide digging out a trench. With the fortress now grounded, troops and vehicles started pouring out in mass in order to fight off the incoming forces. Something they were doing a decently good job at as most of the heavy ground forces were slowed down due to their speed.
Having the vehicles slide to a halt, Naruto started having his troops form a defensive line as they fired upon the charging Covenant. It was unfortunate that they were in a open field so with a few orders given out, Elemental personal started performing jutsu in order to make trenches and walls for cover. It was a good thing they did so as once the Covenant were in range, they unleashed a hailstorm of plasma fire.
"Kora, I need numbers. Why does it seem like they have more than their original base" he comm in.
: According to scans they seem to have their teleportation active on the draugr. It's running in overdrive teleporting numerous of forces from it. They may not have it ready at the base before. At this moment scans are showing 5,000 troops, 2,000 vehicles, and 100 aircraft. All of these numbers are growing : explained Kora
"I guess if we take out that device that's allowing this, we can wrap up this ground invasion"
: That's going to be difficult : she added as a beam came out of the top of the draugr and spread out to form a shield upon it. : They are diverting all port to the shield and teleporter :
Midnight
The night sky lit up with gunfire as the two sides traded fire. The UMC managed to establish a forward operating base with the front lines. Inside the base were the leaders discussing a plan two break the shield. Nukes and MACS were out as the Asari wouldn't authorize it. So that meant infiltrating a heavily manned and armed base.
"We will do a multiprong attack. The main force will focus on the center while we will have stealth units infiltrate and hit them from the sides" stated Naruto to the group of officers and Spartans in the command room. "From above we will hit them with drop pods. There are multiple ships on standby waiting. The main mission is to enter their fortress and disable both the shield and the teleportation. Once that is done we can clean up the rest of these guys. Any questions?" he finished looking around and seeing none.
"Alright get to work. Have your units ready to go in 30 minutes. Once we are done here, the only issue is the ships in space".
Space
The space combat had lowered down in intensity as the Covenant fleet stopped wasting their ships and were regrouped to form a stronger force. The UMC fleets were using this time to recover and rearm. Damaged ships were moved to the rear in order to perform repairs if there was no more room in the bays. This battle was the biggest UMC space battle they ever took part in. If they can truly drive them off this sector, the amount in ship salvage that would be conducted would be enough to make more fleets. But that's only if they win and drive them off the sector.
Kushina from her captain's chair was reading off the reports from the fleets. Overall, the combined fleets lost only 22 percent of their ships while 15 percent required urgent repairs. The rest of the fleet had minimum to light damages that were easily being handled. While they didn't know the number of ships they have destroyed, estimates showed that they have destroyed 70 percent of the enemy forces that arrived. It was the reason why they broke off the attack and started regrouping. They were reinforcing and wait for more ships to arrive.
"We should attack them directly" spoke up Kushina to the group video chat she was on with the other admirals. They all had paused in their talks to see what she meant. "We attack now and the arriving reinforcements for them would just break off. There is no need to reinforce a fleet that's destroyed or fleeing the sector" she finished.
"It would give us time to fully build up here and place more defenses. With the break we can place some super heavy defensive platforms in orbit and on the planets" added another admiral as most of them agreed with the two. Some had other ideas, but they all looked to Hiruzen for his call as he was in charge of all the fleets.
Hiruzen could be seen thinking over all the possibilities and options before coming to an answer. "We will attack the fleet in a overwhelming attack but I will assign some fleets to hold back in case they pull a trick on us. We will form the fleets on me and unleash a combined strike. Comm in when you are all in position" he finished ending the call to direct his own fleet into position.
Moving his super carrier into position to face the fleet he had PJ start directing the positions as his ship started preparing the weapons. Coils were spinning and waiting to ignite. Batteries were charged up and ready to be unleashed. Missile silos were opened and waiting to eject missile after missile. MAC's were ready charged and ready to fire.
One by one ships started lining up with his own with their own weapons ready to go. Longswords carrying shiva nukes were attached to ships to hide from the enemy while other escort craft were moving in guard patterns around the ships. It soon turned to fleets now moving into position one by one as greenlight signals were being sent to PJ.
Down below hovering above the planet were multiple ships opening up hatches to reveal pods ready to launch. These ships were preparing for the final attack upon the draugr. On the ground multiple teams were sneaking up on the edges consisting of ODST's, Spartan's, Special Forces, and Shadows (Elemental trained). Part of these teams was no other than Naruto leading the charge.
Laying down prone with Phoenix Team next to him, he was waiting for all groups to report in green. Not far from him, the glow of the Covenant shield lit up the nearby area. On his HUD he watched as orbital drop, airstrike, artillery, missile strike, and frontal force were lit green. Moving to a low crouch with his battle rifle in his hand he waited for the last group to light up green.
Green/Green
"Commence! Execute!" called out Hiruzen and Naruto as multiple actions took place all at once within the sector.
Within space all attacking UMC ships moved forward unleashing a salvo of fire as long swords detached and started launching nukes. MAC rounds were being fired round after round as missiles were being ejected into space and launching through it with the ignition of their proposition. Lasers were being fired streaking through the space in a beautiful glow as different shells and rounds were following behind them.
The Covenant not expecting them to turn their defense into an attack, were not fully prepared for the onslaught of enemy fire. Hitting the first due to their speed were barrages of laser beams followed closely by MAC rounds. The succession of lasers from numerous ships was too much for the shields of the Covenant, forcing them to overload and become disabled as they frizzled away. Some shield generators completely overload and exploded. Following the lasers were MAC rounds that started smashing through the unshielded hulls of the ships causing massive damage all across.
Sustaining heavy causalities the fleet tried pulling back trying to escape the barrage of fire and used what remaining weaponry to knock out the remaining fire coming from them with little success. The rounds and missiles caught up to the fleet and started striking and exploding on whatever it could hit. Ship after ship fell to the combined fire when missiles different from the others by having a red signal reached them. In different sections of the fleet, they exploded in a massive explosion signaling that they were nukes. All at once hundreds of ships were being wiped out or vaporized.
Ground Attack
On the ground artillery rounds were being launched in rapid succession and airstrikes were being launched upon the shield. From orbit, missiles were being launched that were followed by numerous drop pods. The front line started onloading a nonstop barrage of fire upon the shield as the flanking teams sprinted forward and into the shields.
Naruto entering the shield first performed multiple seals and took a deep breathe. Breathing out the filter of his suit, he unleashed numerous of large fireballs into the air. They kept up the height for a few seconds before coming back down as massive dragon faced fireballs upon the Covenant. Smashing into structures, personal, and vehicles in a blaze of fire. Other Shadow forces followed his lead performing other destructive jutsu causing panic in all directions as missiles from orbit smashed into the shield.
Under the cover of the attacks, drop pods crashed through the shield and impacting on the ground. Smashing into vehicles like wraiths, structures, and any other unfortunate thing on the ground with a hard impact. Doors from the different pods popped off allowing for ODST's, Spartan's, Cyclops, and all manner of ground vehicles to come charging out guns blazing.
A few elites ran into the armory only for a Shadow to slide in front of the door to shoot a fireball into it. Smashing into the explosive weapons and equipment, the whole building lit up in flames. A wraith was moving to attack some forces only for a cyclops to jump and land on the front crushing it and the driver. A few rounds from its cannon finished it off.
With the massive chaos happening within the base, Naruto leaped forward leading the charge into the draugr. Moving at rapid speeds, he and his team used only kunai to cut down the enemies in their path. Before long they had broken into the room containing the shield generator. All at once Naruto and the members of Phoenix Team held up their hands to form their own Rasengan to start smashing into everything in their way.
From outside the shield, the UMC forces stopped firing once their own were inside the shield. They could hear the massive amounts of combat taking place when the shields started to sizzle and come undone in different spots before coming down completely. This was the signal for the rest of the forces to come charging in to wipe out the remaining Covenant. It was over for them.
Space but not in the current sector
Planet Reach
Through the use of advance cloaking a ship had entered the sector and was slowly making its way towards the UNSC least guarded sector. Making its way pass the defenses the ship entered orbit and down to land. Finding a secure area the ship started offloading troops and equipment to set up a base. With all the troops working together they add a similar goal in mind. Prepare the planet for the next Covenant invasion.
