Chapter 3: The Way The Leaf Blows
Korra was in a waiting room with the chief of police. Lin Beifong, the firstborn daughter of legendary Earthbender, Toph Beifong. Lin was giving Korra a glare.
"I don't understand what I did wrong," Korra said, "I stopped a criminal."
"And you also interfered with police work," Lin stated, "Not to mention disturbing the peace."
"Disturbing the- I just got here!" Korra snapped.
"Well, you're making a great start here Avatar," Lin said.
"Wait, how did you know I'm the-" Korra started but was interrupted.
"Listen here, Korra was it?" Lin said, "Your Avatar ranking may impress others, but you have a long way to go with me. So sit there and shut up until someone arrives to get you."
A cop arrived in the room.
"Tenzin has just arrived along with his adopted nephew," he said.
"Send them in," Lin ordered.
Tenzin and Kuzon arrived. Tenzin had a scowl on his face, while Kuzon had a look of sympathy.
"Sorry…." he said.
Tenzin turned his attention to Lin.
"Looking as ravishing as usual…" he started.
"Cut the bullshit," Lin said, "Why are you here? Why is the Avatar in Republic City?"
"I'm not sure, but I will make sure she returns to the North Pole, and this time she'll stay put," Tenzin stated, "Release Korra and I will take all charges for what happened."
"Very well," Lin said, "Its not like I could stop you before, so why try now?"
"Come along Korra," Tenizn said.
The two teens followed Tenzin out of the police station. Later on Tenzin gave Korra the riot act about her disobedience.
"Hold on Uncle, don't blame all of this on her, it was my idea for her to start some crown training until you were available!" Kuzon said, as he defended Korra.
"But I was the one who begged him to take me," Korra said.
"It doesn't matter who's idea it was," Tenzin said, "The point is Korra disobeyed a direct order!"
"Well Katara told me that I should go," Korra told Tenzin, "She said that my destiny was in Republic City!"
"Don't bring my mother into this!" Tenzin snapped.
"Uncle listen," Kuzon said standing up, "I only got to know Korra for a day, but I can tell she's gonna be a great extraordinary avatar. Her standing around in the northern air temple won't help her any better to become the Avatar she was meant to be."
Tenzin started listening to his nephew's reasoning.
"And yea, she was a little brash with how she handled those thugs today," Kuzon continued before turning his head to Korra, "No offense."
"None taken," Korra said, waving it off, "But I know why you had to stay here. This city needs you, yes, but it also needs me as well."
"And me," Kuzon said, "Sure I work outside the law, but I do some pretty good cleanup. I'll make sure Korra stays out of trouble. You have my word."
"You…." Tenzin said before he signed.
He started to realize he was right. The doors opened, revealnig Jinora, Ikki and Meelo.
"Korra!" Ikki said, "Are you staying?"
Korra looked down to the three airbenders and sadly smiled.
"Unfortunately no, I need to go back to my home," Korra said.
"Actually…. I think we can make an arrangement," Tenzin said.
"Wait, what?" Kuzon asked.
"I stayed in Republic City because I thought I needed to continue my father's legacy… but now I see that you are his legacy Korra," Tenzin said with a smile, "So I think its best for you to stay here and start your training. Republic City will need its Avatar soon."
Korra smiled at this. Kuzon smiled being happy for his new friend. They started leaving the station, but they were stopped by a few reporters who were aware of the events that recently happened.
"Um hi….. I'm Korra," she said.
"Are you moving into Republic City?" asked a reporter.
"Were you sending a message to those triads?"
"Are you gonna fight crime, the anti bending army or both?"
"Well I am here to stay but I don't have a plan yet," Korra stated, "I'm still in training, but soon I hope to be the best avatar there is for Republic City! I look forward to serving for you all."
