"What do you mean you're still not agreeing to this?!"
"And what do you mean I can't contact any of my friendsssss back at the hotel?!"
"This is bullshit! Bullshit I tell you!"
Sera let out a bitter, tired sigh as she stared down at us. There was no way she was going to listen to the three of us.
"I'm sorry. But there is no way I'm allowing you to make any contact with the residents of Hell. Things have been going downhill ever since the last extermination." She said, rubbing her forehead, "The last thing I need right now is for more problems to arise."
I looked at my companions. Sir Pentious, the newly redeemed soul, had a devastated face at her response. My other friend, Molly, wasn't backing down though.
"What kind of problem are ya talkin about?!" Molly angrily asked the seraphim, "You can't keep us from our family forever! My twin brother is down there and so are Pentious's friends! And let's not forget that you're still allowing exterminations to take place!"
When I told Molly about the exterminations, she was absolutely furious. Not only was her brother out there dealing with the exterminations of thousands of demons, Sera knew from the beginning and allowed it to happen.
I knew where her anger was coming from. We need to stop this. But the council, despite this news, doesn't want to help either. It was one thing to allow Charlie, the princess of Hell, to involve herself in the meeting. But to support her idea about more sinners being redeemed and walking amongst the citizens of Heaven is another. They're worried.
And to make things worse, Lute is now in charge of the exorcist angels and is more determined to put an end to Charlie's hotel. But despite her new promotion, she can't exactly go down there now. The angels involved in the last extermination are still wounded and it would cause a lot of questions. But she's still determined, which is not good.
Why is this happening? Why can't Sera see that all of this is wrong? I know she's scared but it doesn't give her the right to punish souls, no matter how bad they are, to a fate like this. It's cruel and unjust.
Sera glares at the three of us, "Like I said, my decision is final. Now if you'll excuse-"
Thundering was heard. Angry thundering.
"¡DÉJAME ENTRAR! ¡SÉ QUE PUEDES ESCUCHARME!" shouted an angry someone from outside.
Sera just gave out a tired groan, "Why now…?" without another word, she was leaving to deal with the loud commotion.
Molly and I looked at each other, knowing very well who that was. Sir Pentious on the other hand, being new, looked confused.
"Um… Who wasssss that just now?" he gently asked.
That was when I had an idea. "Someone who's on our side."
I followed Sera with Molly coming along with me while Sir Pentious tries to keep up, still questioning what's going on.
As the three of them got outside, they hid behind the doors and watched as Sera was struggling in an argument between her and the two other winners.
A woman with a thundercloud over her head was shouting at Sera while a man by her side was encouraging her.
"Listen here! I don't care if you if it's a danger! We want to see my hijo and my sobrinas! Just because they're not here doesn't mean we or the rest of our family can't see them! No matter what they did!"
"You tell her, mi amor!"
The woman had yellow skin and curly dark grey hair that looked to be filled with static. She has light pink eyes and wore an orange and dark grey dress and also had yellow shoes. Her earrings seemed to also be actual thunderclouds as they emitted lightning and thunder along with snow white wings ruffling with emotion. Her anger was all too clear.
The man next to her seemed to be her loving husband as he was close to her side and shouting along with her. He was short and had dark skin and yellow sunny curly hair and a beard. He wore a yellow and light gray buttoned shirt and orange striped pants. He was smiling wholeheartedly for his wife and looked just as angered at the seraphim as his wife was.
Emily recognizes them all too well.
Pepa and Felíx Madrigal.
Sir Pentious the scene with intrigue, "Who are they?"
"Pepa Madrigal and Felíx Madrigal," Molly answers him, watching this unfold, "Every week for decades they tried convincing Sera and everyone else in the council to let they're family visit their loved ones, but Sera always turns them down. They say that the charges for condemning them to Hell were unfair as two of them were down there due to grief and one of them is missing for unknown reasons. Reasons that they believe Sera knows about but she refuses to speak."
The Madrigals were good friends to both me and Molly. Just like the spider angel, they also want to see their family members. I would always support them while trying to convince Sera to let them see them. But Sera always says no and I had no idea why at first.
But now I see. Sera wouldn't allow the Madrigals to reunite because it might reveal the exterminations of sinners. And knowing this, they would do anything in their power to work against her.
And Sera would do anything to keep this dark secret under wraps.
"Pepa, please. I know you're hurt and that you want to see the rest of your family but think about this with reason." says Sera, trying to reason with the angry weather angel, "Isabella Madrigal was the fault of the murder of your mother. And to make it worse, she killed herself with poison she herself made. And your son Camilo was at fault for using drugs and alcohol and then killing himself due to overdose. I simply cannot let them stay in heaven."
"They were grieving, I tell you! Grieving! We were all grieving and it was Alma's fault! And her murder was an accident and the both of them couldn't take it." Even though Pepa was known for her powerful resolve and fierce determination that rivals a storm, she looked on the verge of breaking down in tears.
Felíx placed a comforting hand on his wife's shoulder and then glared at Sera, "Loss takes a toll on us. And when feeling guilt, we tend to lose ourselves. They were victims of Alma's mistreatment. Please just let us see them."
"I'm sorry." She says quite gently, "But they are still sinners for condemning themselves to sin for taking their lives. Drug use and murder simply can't be ignored."
Despite this, Pepa kept moving forward in this argument, "Whatever happened to second chances? They're good no matter what you say, you overgrown bird! And what about Mirabel? She deserves to be here along with the rest of her family. She didn't do anything to get herself into hell, and yet you still refuse to tell us where she is. I know she was here, Sera! What did you do?!"
Pepa was right. From what the whole family told me, she was a good soul who wanted to make her family proud of her. Judging from her actions that they told me when she was on earth, there was no way she wouldn't be here. But sadly, no one knows where she ended up.
It was strange… Sera could have just said she was in hell if she did do something. But she never spoke a single word of where she was in the afterlife. Even stranger, it always looked like she was… worried, everytime Mirabel was mentioned.
… I have a theory. I didn't want to believe it but-
"That's enough, Pepa." Sera said with a lot of sternness, meaning that she wanted the conversation over with, "It's already made clear. Please leave before I call for backup to escort you and your husband out."
The Seraphim turns around and leaves, completely ignoring the weather angel as she shouts with a fist in the air, "We'll be back! All of us know you're hiding something from us! We'll find out no matter what! You can't keep our family apart forever!"
Once Sera leaves, Pepa couldn't take it as she crashed to the ground and cried, the cloud over her head gently raining as it sensed her desperation and hopelessness and her earrings turned into a water droplet. Felíx immediately came to her aid, giving soothing and easing words of comfort.
It always breaks my heart to see this and not do anything before. To not be able to help my fellow angels in their despair.
But this time… this time I'll do something. I'm not going to allow Sera to get away with this. Nor would I allow Lute or the other exorcists to get away with the lives of the sinners.
They need to know… They all do.
I immediately flew towards the loving couple along with Molly and Pentious. Noticing my presence, Pepa quickly tried to wipe the tears away, "Oh… Emily… it's always good to see you."
I gave her a worried and sad look, "I'm so sorry. I'm so very sorry."
Felíx gave me a comforting smile, "It's not your fault. You're doing everything you can to help." He notices Molly and Sir Pentious by my side, "Oh! You're here too, Molly! How are you all doing? And who's your new friend?"
I look back at the two of them, and then back at Pepa and Felíx. Knowing about the exterminations was horrible. The thought of families like these not knowing that their loved ones in hell are in danger… it's just not right. And they need to know.
And perhaps the information of Charlie's hotel to redeem sinners might give family and friends like the Madrigals hope. Hope that they can reunite with their loved ones.
I just hope they can take it easy once they know the truth.
Sir Pentious bowed his head politely at them, "The name'sssss Sir Pentioussss. Pleassssed to meet you, Mr. and Mrs. Madrigal."
Despite the residue of tears, Pepa chuckles at his formality, "Just call me and my husband by our first names, dear. No need for formalities. Are you new around here?"
"Yessss, I am." He looked at me, wanting to know if it was alright to reveal it. I nodded and the snake looked at the two, "I'm actually… a newly redeemed sinner."
They widened their eyes and looked at them with shock and new found hope, "You were in Hell?!"
"It's possible?!" Felix replied with excitement, shaking his shoulders to which Pentious ended up being dizzy.
"It's actually true?!" The weather angel's gloomy cloud turned into joyous sunshine as her earrings turned into suns, "Have you seen a young man with a thirst for mischief but is nonetheless a sweetheart. Or a young woman with a purple dress and associates with plants? Or a young teenage girl with glasses and really clumsy? Hah! It's possible! Take that Sera!"
Poor Sir Pentious was stuttering at all their responses and I tried to help him, "Yes it is possible. All thanks to the Princess of Hell, Charlie, and her hotel that gives sinners a chance. But Sera is trying to prevent him from going back to see his friends because they're still in Hell."
Their joy turned to anger at the information, "That no good… RAAHHHH!"
Thunder strikes, causing Pentious to alert in surprise.
Felíx pats him on the back, "Don't worry. You'll get used to it." His demeanor turned serious, "But what is going on? What is Sera trying to hide?"
Pepa finally calmed down, giving the three of us a worried look.
My friends looked at me and I was looking at the couple. The truth would crush them. But there's still hope. Hope that their family will finally see each other once again.
There was no way Sera nor Lute could stop us. No way for them to prevent us from stopping the exterminations. No way they can ignore us. No way can they shut us up. Heaven will listen.
It's time to take a stand for what is truly right.
"Sera's keeping something. Something big and horrible." I say to them gravely, "And… you're not going to like it."
