Chapter 8 – Breaking The Wall

"Techno..." Phil muttered.

Techno stayed silent, his footsteps constantly shaking the ground beneath.

"Hey. Techno. I know you said to stay out of it, but I can't do that. So why don't we-"

Crum.

Suddenly Techno dropped the cart, swiftly moving towards Phil.

Fluum. Swish.

Techno flung his arms towards Phil, grabbing the air. His hands flew through Phil's body, moving away like smoke before reforming behind them.

"Ooooh, oooh. That really hurt a lot." Phil said resuming a normal position before his body flopped back into place. "Not. Why did you think that would do anything? You killed me, snapped me in two. And to a matter of fact, killed my guard!"

"Oh? So, you finally figured it out? I cannot believe you were so dumb to not figure out that it was me. I was the one who killed you." He fell silent for a second before screaming at him again. "Have you even connected the dots on why I am out here? Where I am taking you and why?"

"Why would I need to?" Phil said, his voice calming. "I don't have a goal right now. I wouldn't need to hold anything against you."

Techno snarled, rolling his eyes at Phil. "This is why I don't understand humans. Never truly holding a grudge to something. Not doing whatever it takes to sort something out."

"At the end of the day. I am dead and I can't really do anything but either stay with you or go somewhere else. But... honestly, I don't think I'd want to go elsewhere. Because you interest me. In the war, I would have only known you a couple seconds in person but here. You are different." Phil told him. "You're calm and collected, speak formally to me and dismiss me. But nonetheless you chose to take me."

Techno sighed, his eyes drifting away from him. He moved back over to the cart, lifting it.

Tltt.

The wheels of the cart moved down the path rattling on each pebble.

Phil floated beside Techno who ignored him, keeping his eyes on road ahead.

"I was asked by my territory to bring your body to them." He revealed. "I do not know why, as they kept my letter short, but it was crucial that you were to be made into a spirit."

"Did I really need to be in this position?" Phil asked commenting on the way his body was.

"Spirits do not change from the form in which they died. They may move their spirit body for a certain amount of time, but they are limited to a short time because it dwindles their consciousness."

"Consciousness? Why would it affect that?" Phil asked, baffled by the sentiment.

"Spirits still need to rest." Techno explained. "You've heard of the term 'put the spirits to rest' haven't you?"

"Yes." Phil replied.

"Well. You, have a spiritual form which means you technically have a living form. I created your spiritual form from a time in which you were on the brink of death. Your spiritual form that was created must rest in order to keep a constant conscious. If not, you will cease to exist."

"Entirely?"

"Yes, all the effort will be for nothing. I will fail. I will be executed." Techno said coldly.

There was a brief gap of silence before Phil broke in. "Well, now that I know your reasons. I will help you."

"Yo-you will?" Techno's hooves skidded on the path. He dropped the cart. "That... was unexpected. I thought that you would feel anger toward me."

Phil scoffed. "This war wasn't started by me; it's been going on and off for years and I don't really have anything against your kind. So, if anything... I'd be going against myself if I said that I didn't want to help you."

"I... thank you. Philip of Lazarus, former King of the Human Territory." Techno thanked him, moving toward him to shake his hand, forgetting his ghostly appearance.

Techno's hand moved through Phil's. "No. I don't need any thanks and besides I wasn't really the king of the entirety of the Human Territory. My entire board was basically the King and there were so many other people who just deserved the position so much more than me."

"Okay, then. Philip, let us move off." Techno said, with a slight grin.

They moved off down the path toward the Monster Territory. There was still a long way to go but Techno did not feel anxious and paranoid to hide things from Phil.

Darkness was closing in as they continued to move through the forest...

Where did shelter lie...
