-Chapter 3-
-Last Time-
'What the hell was that?' Dou wondered, that image of a young Naruto still seared into her mind as she continued to watch her own reflection until the sun vanished underneath the horizon.
-And Now-
The sun was just starting to rise over the horizon as Dou, Naruto, and Sally were gathered just outside the gate of their new home, seated on a log carved into a crude bench. Currently all three of them were digging around inside large hand-crafted packs made of hide and bone.
"Food?" Naruto asked, causing his lady friends to each hold up several bundles of tightly packed leaves.
"Check." "Same."
"Water?" This time the duo held up large leather canteens that audibly sloshed around from the sudden movement.
"Yup." "All good."
"Rope?"
"Oh yeah~," Dou purred out sultrily as she wrapped a length of freshly made rope around her hand, twisting it around into a suggestive knot while winking at Naruto. The blonde in question suddenly found the inside of his pack a lot more interesting as his whiskered cheeks turned a burning red. "We'll certainly be needing that~."
"Ugh… can you please go five minutes without making things weird?" Sally asked sarcastically while fighting down her own blush, causing the tiger gal's smile to turn mischievous.
"I could," Dou said before pinching one of the chipmunk's cheeks with a playful tug. "But your flustered faces are just too cute~."
"Hey! Stop that!" Pulling herself free of the salacious feline's grasp, Sally rubbed her cheek with a scowl as Dou giggled. Focusing back on her pack, the redhead quickly stuffed everything back inside before hoisting up onto her back with a grunt. "We've got everything we need, so let's get this show on the road before we waste more daylight."
It'd been yet another week since they'd been stranded in this strange place and the trio had decided it was finally time to start exploring properly. They'd scouted out the surrounding area sure, mainly in search of things to help them survive, but aside from the blonde's clones they'd avoided going too far. This was to mitigate the odds of one of them getting lost or seriously hurt since they had little idea what or who could be out there.
Now though they had proper shelter, enough supplies stored up to last them for months, easy access to fresh water and fish thanks to the new canal/moat, and the farmland was already showing promising growth. They'd even managed to make some medicine thanks to the trio's collective knowledge of various plants and their properties, in the event of injury or illness.
So with their survival necessities covered for the foreseeable future, they'd unanimously agreed it was finally time to see what was out there.
"Right, right, you have a point," Naruto said while putting his own pack away in a scroll that he tucked away in his loincloth for safekeeping. "But do we have to go by foot? I could just tree hop us along."
"Because the point of this isn't just to go as far as we can, but to familiarize ourselves with the area as well," Sally stated. "Not to mention we need to keep an eye out for any clues that might help us figure out where we are and preferably how to get home. All of which would be pretty hard to do if we're zipping by everything at a hundred miles an hour."
"That's also why we aren't just sending your clones out to do this for us, we need to see this for ourselves." Dou added in, dropping all joking around for once while the chipmunk girl nodded in agreement.
"Oh… good points." The blonde muttered with a slow nod, scratching the back of his head with a sheepish smile.
"On the plus side, at least we aren't going around barefoot anymore thanks to yours truly." Dou said with a grin as she flexed one of her legs to show off her new footwear, a set of wooden sandals. Well sandals was putting it nicely, they were just plain oak slabs with some bear pelt tacked on the top for comfort while a cord was threaded through it and tied around her ankle. But like everything else they wore; it was a necessary crudeness since every other design the tigress had tried ended up evaporating into nothingness like usual.
"Yeah, thanks Dou," Sally muttered while looking at her own sandals, which were made of cedar and topped with weaved grass. Meanwhile Naruto's were exactly the same as Dou's, something the redhead suspected was intentional given their relationship. "I was really tired of having to pluck splinters out of my feet all the time."
"You can say that again," Naruto said, grimacing a little as he shuffled on his own feet at the memory of all the crap he'd stepped on over the last few weeks. However he was quick to shake it off as he slapped himself on the cheek before looking towards the surrounding forests. "So… which way are we going?"
"I'd suggest west, which if assuming the sun here follows the same orbit as back home is that way." Dou said while pointing in the opposite direction of the rising sun.
"Any particular reason why?" Sally asked, getting the striped feline to giggle as she crossed her arms.
"Because then I can tell everyone back home that I had my own Journey to the West."
…
"I don't get it." Naruto stated with a raised brow while Sally nodded in agreement, making Dou deflate like a leaking balloon.
'Right… forgot, different worlds, that reference would make no sense to them,' She thought to herself, mentally sighing at the waste of a perfectly good one-liner moment. But on the plus side, now she had an idea how to pass the time as they started walking in the direction she'd pointed. "Journey to the West is a popular story from my home country, covering the exploits of a man known as Tang and his disciples. Although the story itself starts with a monkey guy named Sun Wukong, who…"
-Much Later-
"…And then as punishment for his actions the Buddha dropped a mountain on top of Sun sealed in place with a talisman that'd last five hundred years."
"Ouch, stuck under a bunch of rocks for that long? That must've sucked." Naruto said while chuckling sympathetically, his arms folded behind his head as he casually looked around. He and Dou were currently standing right at the edge of a large grassy clearing where the forest just seemed to cut off entirely out of the blue. There wasn't much else to say about the clearing itself, just being a modest prairie with waist high grass and a couple shrubs spread out across it.
However, without the tree line blocking the view anymore, they could now see some more interesting sights off in the distance. Namely a mountain range ahead of them and what looked like a lake due North of their current position.
Just ahead of them Sally was on her hands and knees over a large sheet of parchment, scribbling away on it with a chunk of charcoal. A closer look showed that she was drawing up a map, sketching out key landmarks with as much detail as she could manage.
"But I guess he kind of deserved it, sounds like he caused a lot of trouble for everyone in the end." The whiskered blonde continued while leaning against a tree when he didn't see anything that caught his interest.
"Partially, Sun definitely needed to learn patience and humility, not to mention self-control given his impulsive habits. Although at the same time a large reason for his actions was from anger at being deceived and treated like a fool," Dou said with a shrug as she walked over to a different tree with her claws bared, swiping them across the base in a single clean swipe, leaving five deep slashes in the wood. "Still, it's a nice story, and that's just how… it gets…"
"Dou?" Naruto perked up when the tigress trailed off mid-sentence for some reason, his brow raised when he glanced over to see her staring intently at… the ground? Her head tilted to the side as her face scrunched up in confusion and ears twitched erratically atop her head.
Hearing Naruto's questioning tone, Sally looked up from her work to see Dou slowly wandering out into the clearing. "Is something wrong?"
"I'm… not sure," Dou said, walking out further and further while swiveling her ears from side to side, almost like radar dishes. Hurrying to her side, the red- and blonde-haired duo kept their eyes peeled as well while she kept listening. "I can hear something but it's all distorted, like there's an echo or something. But it seems to be coming from-"
A clawed dirt caked fist suddenly burst out of the ground right in front of the Tigress, causing her and Sally to scream in terror.
"WHAT THE FUCK!?" "ZOMBIE!" The pair screamed in near perfect almost comical sync.
"Mph!?" Naruto would have no doubt joined them, or start punching things, or probably both… but the whiskered teen found himself preoccupied by a certain duo jumping into his arms. So instead, the poor boy found himself blindly stumbling backwards while being smothered in fluff.
Back with the arm, it was swiftly joined by another one as both clawed frantically at the surrounding ground, ripping out huge chunks of grassy earth with ease. Not a second later a head burst forth with a loud gasp before the owner pulled itself the rest of the way free.
"Fucking finally, I'm fucking out of there!" Correction, she pulled herself out as Sally and Dou saw an unmistakably female figure despite the mud clinging to the individual clawing their way out of the earth. Coughing up several clumps of dirt as she pulled the last bit of herself free, this newcomer scowled at herself before shaking violently, forcing the pair to cover their faces as gunk went flying everywhere.
When it was all over the girls, and Naruto who'd managed to squeeze his head out between them, were greeted to the sight of a very tall wolf girl. Easily seven or eight feet tall, she towered over them, with thick grey and white fur, long grey hair, an even longer dark grey tail, and piercing silver eyes in crimson sclera. She was also far more animalistic than either Sally or Dou, having distinctively digitigrade legs with paw shaped feet, a pronounced muzzle ending in a wet nose, and a mouthful of razor-sharp teeth.
"Oh Satan, I almost forgot what fresh air tasted like." She said, dusting herself off some more the best she could while taking several deep breaths, relishing the breeze that blew over her.
"Uh…" Or at least she was until Naruto spoke up, causing the canine lady's head to snap towards him. "Hi?"
"…The fuck is with the caveman outfits, you guys shooting a stone age themed porno or something?" She asked with a raised brow, causing Naruto and Sally's faces to light up with deep blushes almost instantly.
"That's not-!"
"Oh, I wish that was the case, at least then I'd be getting paid for this whole mess," Dou cut her boyfriend off, bursting out in giggles as she dropped out of his grasp and straightened out her outfit. "Unfortunately, we're dressed like this probably for the same reason you're buck ass naked right now."
"Well then please, could you fucking enlighten me?" The wolf gal asked sarcastically, her arms crossed over her bare chest as she sent Naruto a dirty look, as if daring him to look. Fortunately the boy found the sky a lot more interesting all of a sudden, which seemed to put her at a tad bit more ease. "Because all I know is one moment I was at work enjoying a nice day of ripping on my dumbass coworkers and the next I'm stuck underground for three damn weeks in my fucking birthday suit."
"You were buried for three weeks? How did you not suffocate?" Sally asked incredulously, to which the silver-eyed canine scoffed with a shake of her head.
"I'm the one asking the questions here, so just get to the point already."
"You know what 'getting Isekai'd' means?" Dou asked, getting confused looks from Sally and Naruto but surprisingly the new girl nodded with an eyeroll.
"That cheesy trope from anime where a character ends up in another world, duh. What about it?"
"That's what's going on basically," The tigress told the lupine lass bluntly. "We all got dragged here from our own realities by accident and now we're stuck."
"…Please tell me you're fucking with me right now." The wolf woman asked, no demanded, as she gave Dou the hardest deadpan any of the trio had ever scene.
"Unfortunately not, we've been stuck here about three weeks too, same circumstances and everything… well, minus the underground part at least," Sally said as she dropped back onto her own two feet again and walked up to the new girl. "I'm Sally by the way, my companion here is Dou-"
"Sup." Said tiger gal gave a playful two finger wave.
"And that's Naruto." The redhead finished while gesturing to Naruto, who simply waved while continuing to look up at the sky, before offering her hand to the canine gal.
"Whatever, call me Loona," The now named Loona said dryly, blatantly ignoring the offered hand as she just walked past Sally, causing the chipmunk girl to frown. However, she was willing to let it slide since the woman had literally just dug herself to freedom not five minutes ago. "Have fun with your caveman orgy crap, I'm gonna go find something to eat aside from shit tasting roots and mushrooms."
"In that case, why don't you come back to our place for lunch? We've got plenty to spare," Dou offered, causing Loona to stop mid-step. "We could probably get you something to wear while we're at it, unless you prefer waltzing around in the nude that is."
"And what's the catch?" The greyette asked dryly, looking over her shoulder at the striped cat girl as she cocked a brow, suspicion written all over her face.
"No catch, just trying to be friendly," Dou said with a smirk. "Although I admittedly would like to know the answer to Ms. Prude's question on how you apparently managed to survive being buried alive for so long. So, you share your story while we share a meal?"
Loona kept staring at the salacious feline silently, silver eyes boring into emerald ones intently, looking for any signs of deceit. However, the answer came for her in the form of her stomach announcing its empty displeasure by growling very VERY loudly. "…Whatever, not like I've got any better fucking options anyway."
"Fantastic," Smirking, Dou looped an arm over the wolf girl's shoulders before turning to Naruto. "Oh Naru, could you get us back to Fort Uzumaki?"
"Sure I… wait, Fort Uzumaki? Is that what we're calling it?" The blonde blinked upon registering what the seductive tiger had said, causing her to smirk playfully.
"Well of course, it's customary to name a compound after the one who made it and you did most of the work so Fort Uzumaki it is."
"…I guess that makes sense." Naruto said while glancing at Sally to see if she had any complaints, only to get a noncommittal shrug from the redhead.
"Great," Her smirk growing, Dou pulled the blonde and red haired duo into a one-armed hug with her free hand. "Then if you would please?"
"Alright, uh, you might wanna brace yourself. " The whiskered teen said, directing the last part towards Loona as he put his hands together in a specific hand-seal.
"The fuck are y-" Was as far as the canine gal managed to get before all four of them vanished in a swirl of smoke and leaves.
Meanwhile, back at the newly named Fort Uzumaki, the quartet reappeared right in front of the house in a second burst of smog. Not a moment later Loona stumbled away from the whiskered blonde with a nauseated look on her face.
"Fuuuuck… I feel like I just rode the Disemboweler Howler on top speed…" The wolf girl groaned out while doubling over, covering her snout as she swallowed down the bile rising up in the back of her throat. A mildly better Dou patted her on the back as she wobbly strutted to the greyette's side and patted her on the back supportively after regaining her own bearings. "Twice…"
"Yeah, it can be a bit discombobulating the first few times." Sally muttered sympathetically despite seemingly being completely unaffected thanks to her vast experience at moving very fast with little warning. Having a childhood friend who could run faster than the speed of sound all of his life sort of made being used to abrupt vertigo somewhat of a necessity after all.
"I'll just take your word on that," Loona said after catching her breath, shaking her head with an irritated growl before quickly calming back down. "Now where's the fucking food?"
"Not so fast," The canine gal was caught off guard when Dou grabbed her arm and dragged her off towards a wooden tub carved from a huge log set up by the side of the house sat atop a coal pit. "I don't want you tracking mud all over so first things first, bath time."
"Are you fucking serious?"
-XxxxX-
As it turned out Dou was in fact serious which was made evident by a now sparkly clean Loona found herself seated at a large table an hour later. Not only was she cleaned up but she was also dressed up, now adorn with a pair of black pelts tied around her chest and waist to cover her modesty. Although her cleanly state was unlikely to last long as she ravenously dug into a large plate of food that'd been laid out before her.
Across from her was Dou and Naruto, the former purring happily as the latter sat on her lap with a light blush on his cheeks due to the salacious feline feeding him. Meanwhile Sally was in the middle looking a mix of amused, exasperated, and just a tad grossed out by Loona's manners, or lack there of.
"So… we have to dress like this… because regular clothing dissolves here?" She asked while taking bites out of a huge rack of roasted bear ribs, ripping the meat right off the bone with zero effort. Not that it mattered as she then proceeded to eat actual ribs themselves, her jaws crunching through the tough bones and chewing them apart like they were made of tissue paper.
"Pretty much," Naruto said with a shrug before shyly taking a bite of an apple slice that Dou held up to his lips. "We've been trying different ideas but this seems to be the only thing that works so far."
"Great, so not only am I stuck in this backwoods shithole with no booze or internet but I gotta dress like some cheap porno actress too? Fan-fucking-tastic," Loona groused bitterly before stuffing the last chunk of ribs in her mouth and grabbing a plate of roasted deer legs. "At least the foods good, this is some good damn roast."
"Thanks, I try," Dou said with a nod. "Now then, we told you our side so why don't you tell us yours already? Like how-"
"Yeah, yeah, hold your damn horses would ya," The foul mouthed wolf cut her off with an eyeroll, polishing off an entire leg in just two bites before washing it down with a swig of orange juice. "There really isn't that much to it anyway. First of all, I wasn't buried, there's a whole bunch of caverns and tunnels down below that go on all over the place. I just ended up in one of them when I first got here."
"So you just appeared underground in a cave?" Sally asked, getting Loona to nod with an eyeroll.
"That's what I just fucking said, isn't it?"
"Well yeah but… all of us fell out of the sky, why would you appear beneath the ground?"
"Fuck if I know, something to do with me being in Hell when it happened probably."
"Ah right, that makes sense…"
Oh yeah, something that Loona had revealed during her bath was the fact she was a demon, a Hellhound to be specific. She'd admitted to it when Dou noted the wolf girl's distinctively infernal aura whilst helping her scrub off the mud caked across her body.
To her surprise nobody seemed to really care about this fact beyond a few questions like what her Hell was like. Although considering their current circumstances her being an actual demon probably wasn't that big of a surprise.
"Anyway," Shaking these thoughts off Loona continued. "I waited around at first, figuring my fa-boss would find me eventually, but then I got bored after a day or so and tried to find my own way out instead. After weeks of nothing but more tunnels though I got pissed and just dug my way out instead which led to now, the end."
"Huh, that's kind of… uh, Dou what's that word for something not being as cool as you expected again?" Naruto asked his girlfriend with a raised brow, getting the Tigress to giggle and scratch the top of his head.
"Underwhelming, and I have to agree, with the dramatic entrance and all I kind of figured there'd be more to it."
"Yeah you'd think but nope, just got stuck in a fucking shitty hole and dug my ass out," Loona said with a shrug, now munching on a bunch of wild veggies as she spoke. "Only interesting crap that happened was I met this really annoying sheep bitch."
"Wait, there's someone else down there?" Sally asked in concern as she stood up. "Why didn't you say that before, we should go hel-"
"Don't waste your time, she's already dead." The demonic canine stated bluntly, making the redhead stop mid-step before sinking back into seat somberly.
"Oh… what happened?"
"Eh, I don't remember."
"…What? How could you know she's dead if you don't remember what happened?"
"Because she was a total bitch who annoyed the fuck out of me for like three days until she died and I had nothing to pass the time but my imagination. I may have spent a lot of time imagining ways she died for my own amusement so now I can't remember which way she actually did," Loona admitted, snickering to herself as she spoke while Sally inched away from her uneasily. "If I were to guess though I'd say she either starved to death because she couldn't eat shit like I can, got crushed to death during a cave in being a dumbass, or I ate her because she wouldn't shut her stupid mouth."
"…You… ate her?" Naruto repeated as his and Dou cocked their brows in almost perfect sync while Sally moved even further away.
"Possibly, like I said she was really annoying, kept going on about how it was my fault we were down there and calling me a 'dirty pred' or some shit," Loona explained, idly licking her lips as she spoke. "Really got me thinking of showing her why a sheep shouldn't piss off a predator like that when they're hungry."
…
"Is it wrong I'm suddenly in the mood for lamb chops?" Naruto asked awkwardly, causing Dou and Loona to burst into laughter while Sally relaxed a bit, though she did slap the boy's arm with a dry look.
"I think you and I are gonna get along just fine blondie," The hellhound said between snickers, pretending to wipe a tear away as she got herself under control. "Anyway, all I know for sure is that she's dead and thus not my problem anymore, so fuck it."
"Fair enough, so what're you gonna do now that you're topside?" Dou asked curiously, getting Loona to shrug.
"No fucking idea, was hoping my phone would get a signal once I got out of those damn caves but that was a bust," While she was talking the greyette reached into the fluff of her tail and pulled out said device, showing the prominent 'no service' message on the screen, before tucking it back away. "I'm guessing this is the part where you offer to let me stay here to join the group to work together towards and all that cliché bullcrap?"
"Well it's that or you wander off into the wilderness to deal with kami only knows what all by yourself." Naruto pointed out while Dou and Sally nodded in agreement, the former rubbing the top of the blonde's head with a soft purring.
"Then in that case, you guys got a room I can crash in or do I get the couch so to speak?" Loona asked after polishing off the last few bites of her food along with the wooden tray that it'd all been served on.
"We can get something set up for you," With a smile Dou tapped Naruto's shoulder, getting him to climb off her lap so she could stand up. Stretching her arms over her head until her back cracked, the zodiac girl sighed before beckoning Loona to follow her as they both walked off. "Would you prefer your own place or you fine with just tacking on another room here?"
"Fuck yeah I'll take my own place, especially if you and whiskers there get it on as much as I'm smelling it." The hellhound stated, waving a hand in front of her nose at the last part to emphasize her point, causing the playful tigress to giggle.
"Fair enough, let's go pick out a spot for it then."
"And while they're doing that, I say we go check out those tunnels she was talking about," Sally said to Naruto, who tilted his head with a raised brow.
"Why?"
"A: to verify her story, B: see if those tunnels lead anywhere near here, and C: I'm just curious about what's in them."
"…Works for me." The blonde said with a shrug before turning his back to the redhead and crouching slightly so she could climb on. Once Sally was snugly in place he took a single deep breath before zooming off like a rocket, blowing past Dou and Loona in the blink of an eye.
"The fuck are they in such a rush for?" The latter asked dryly, smoothing down her fur which'd been blown to the side by the unexpected breeze.
"If I were to hazard a guess, probably making sure your story checks out." Dou muttered under her breath, seemingly unphased as she focused on making a square with her fingers to look through. She squinted an eye as she moved the square around the empty space around the house, silently gauging the size and dimensions she was working with.
"So, your boy toy is just gonna trust a total stranger you guys just met to be alone with you?"
"I'm trained in martial arts, wrestling, boxing, and mystic combat techniques that could break bones, rupture organs, and crush your heart all without leaving a mark," The tigress stated casually, as if talking about the weather. "And even if I wasn't there are nearly a hundred copies of him that can do everything he can all over this base. If you tried anything you'd be pummeled into the ground faster than you could say 'that was stupid'."
"…Duly noted."
-End of Chapter-
