Momo had made her way back to the stands to watch the rest of the matches, with what her green haired classmate had declared in the hallway. She was skeptical, and with good reason. Midoriya's quirk did far too much damage to him to take him far in the sports festival. She suspected that it was his way of being considerate to her, making a promise that he had a chance of not keeping, but for some reason, she was internally rooting for him.
He was up against his first major hurdle to saving her hero career – Shoto Todoroki. The ice user stared down Izuku, who had a new air of determination around him. Both boys looked like they were about to eat each other alive, and Midnight gulped a bit. Letting them go at it didn't really seek like the best idea.
The entire stadium was silent, waiting in anticipation, the students watching tensely, especially a certain raven haired girl.
"BEGIN!!" Midnight declared, jumping off the arena.
Immediately there a flash of ice sent hurdling towards Izuku, who seemed to have been completely frozen over, but in a loud boom all the ice was sent flying in many directions. Izuku's purple arm had blown through the humongous block of ice, and he kept doing so.
Todoroki was relentless in his ice attacks, and kept trying to freeze his opponent, who kept smashing through his attacks and getting closer to him. Izuku's fingers on his left hand were all broken and looking like eggplants. He was in a world of pain, but pain meant nothing to him right now. He was going to win, to show Yaoyorozu that anyone could become strong, if they didn't give up.
Todoroki was already feeling the effects of using too much ice. He gritted his teeth as the cold sank into his skin, and he knew that his ice was completely useless against the raw power of Izuku, but he had to try. He was going to win, without using his power.
"DELAWARE SMASH!!!"
Another loud boom and all his ice was shattered yet again, sending the shards everywhere, some even cutting him. Todoroki winced in pain, and shot another ice attack. Up in the stands the others were watching in amazement, and awe at the power being displayed by their two classmates.
"HOLY CRAP!!" Sero yelled as an ice shard flew past his cheek barely missing him.
"Those two are monsters!!" Kaminari said.
"And Midoriya's so manly breaking through the ice like that!!" Kirishima added.
Others showed concern for the fighters. On one hand Midoriya was breaking his bones like world records, and on the other Todoroki's entire right side was frozen over with ice. They couldn't keep up this for much longer. The rumbles stopped, as both fighters were panting, catching their breaths.
Izuku groaned in pain, his arm feeling numb, but he could still move it slightly. The ice was actually helping him in a way. It was numbing the pain somewhat so he could remain focused. He had to win, not only for himself, or for All Might, but for Yaoyorozu as well.
"Why …?" Todoroki asked suddenly. "Why keep fighting? When you know you can't win? It's pointless fighting a losing battle. You're far too damaged to continue, so why won't you give up?"
Izuku's eyes hardened in determination as he glared at his opponent.
"I AM going to win!" he yelled over the distance between them. "You keep shooting those dumb icicles of yours!!!"
With that he ran forward, powering through the ice wall that had been erected and landing a hard punch to Todoroki's gut that sent him tumbling back, and coughing out spit. He got up groggily, stunned at how tough Izuku was to beat.
Deep down he knew he wouldn't beat him with his ice alone, but his past haunted him so much that the thought of using his flames made him want to throw up.
"I'll ask you my question" Izuku began. "Why won't you use your flames?!"
"I'LL NEVER USE HIS POWER!!! NOW SHUT UP!!!" Todoroki snapped back with a rage in his eyes, as he shot an even larger ice wave at Izuku.
"WYOMING SMASH!!!"
The ice attack was smashed to bits as Izuku landed another series of blows on Todoroki, making him cough out blood. He struggled to get up, his vision blurry not only from the hits he took, but from the frostbite.
"USE YOUR DAMNED QUIRK TODOROKI!!! NO ONE HAS CONTROL OVER YOUR FLAMES!! STOP BEING DISRESPECTFUL TO EVERYONE HERE!!! IF YOU WON'T GO ALL OUT THEN YOU DON'T DESERVE TO WIN, OR EVEN BECOME A HERO!!" Izuku roared, smashing through another ice attack and landed another punch that almost sent the ice user out of bounds if not for his ice wall.
Todoroki bounced off the ice wall and fell to the ground, the memories of his life flashing before his eyes. He remembered his mother's words … she wanted him to be the best hero he could be … to use his power. It sparked something in him, and that spark ignited in a sea of flames.
"SHOTOOOOOO!!!!!!!" Endeavor roared with pride, seeing the firepower that his son had.
Todoroki got up with a new determination, the fire melting all the ice around him. He looked to his opponent with a smile.
"You really messed up. Helping an opponent. YOU'RE CRAZY!!"
"BRING IT ON!!!" Izuku yelled, with a crazy looking grin on his face.
Todoroki charged up his final attack, ice on his right and fire on his left, combining them in one intense blast. Izuku launched at him at full speed, One for All rushing through his arm as they both closed the distance.
"STOP THEM!! THEY'LL KILL EACH OTHER!!"
Midnight immediately activated her quirk to put them to sleep, and Cementoss erected huge walls to stop them from clashing head on. Everyone could only brace for impact as both attacks collided with a terrifying explosion of ice, fire, dust and rocks.
The entire arena was completely levelled, and there was a huge plume of smoke covering the fighting area. Were they even alive?
"Holy shit …"
"Are those two really just students?" Cementoss asked with a look of shock at the power displayed, and the sheer destruction.
The dust soon started to clear, and it revealed a very injured Izuku, standing but barely, and an unconscious Todoroki embedded into the wall behind him. The crowd erupted in a roar of awe.
IZUKU MIDORIYA IS THE WINNER!!!!!
The crowd went wild at the legendary battle that had just gone down in front of them, and most were shocked, especially those who thought for sure that Todoroki would in fact win. This was probably the greatest fight in UA sports festival history.
Izuku heard the cheers of people, and smiled to himself, and soon succumbed to his injuries, passing out. Medics rushed to the scene to tend to the injured students. Momo was frozen in shock, at the turn of events. He beat Todoroki, and deep down she was extremely happy. He was giving her hope again, hope that she could become a hero.
Izuku and Todoroki were taken to Recovery Girls office to be healed up, and in a few minutes they were healed up, but seriously beat up. There was an awkward silence between them, both not knowing what to say to each other.
"Guess you beat me…" Todoroki spoke up after a few minutes.
Izuku scratched the back of his head and chuckled a little. In the heat of the battle he may have said a few harsh words, some of which may have been unnecessary.
"Yeah … sorry if I got carried away. I may have said some things I shouldn't have back there" he apologized.
Todoroki looked down to his hands that were bandaged, and smiled a bit. "No hard feelings … it was a fight after all. And you also knocked some sense into me, so thank you Midoriya" he said.
"Y-You're thanking me?" Izuku replied, surprised.
"Yeah … you made me realize that I shouldn't disrespect everyone by using only half my power. You made me to embrace my power, and I promise that I'll use it to become a better hero" Todoroki said with gratitude. "And I'll beat you one day" he declared, throwing down the challenge, a declaration of rivalry.
Izuku smiled, and extended his fist out to his classmate, and now possible friend. "I'll also get stronger, so let's both surpass our limits" he said as they bumped fists.
An hour later, the intercoms announced the final match, and Izuku got up, against Recovery Girls advice. He was going to give it his all in this event, and defeat his final opponent. Todoroki spoke up as he headed down towards the tunnel.
"Win this"
He smiled at the heterochromatic teen, and with a nod he turned to the hallway. "I will …"
He ran into Momo just as he was about to head out, and he smiled at her. She seemed worried for him, especially seeing who his opponent actually was. Unlike Todoroki, Bakugo was not going to restrain himself.
"I already told you, I'm going to win this entire thing" he said with determination. "I don't care who's in my way, even if it's Kaachan. I'll beat him, and prove to you that you still belong here, and that you can become a hero. So wish me luck" he finished, walking out into the fighting arena.
Momo watched the green haired teen walk away, and looked at her hands. They were trembling, both in worry, and anticipation. Bakugo would be the biggest hurdle for him, and it wasn't because of his strength.
Bakugo seemed to have some sort of mental hold on Izuku, that stemmed from their past. Izuku was up against his past demons, but he didn't give a damn. He was going to win.
Bakugo glared at his opponent, and clicked his tongue. A part of him was jealous of Izuku, and how strong he had become. He was a very confident fighter, and knew he was strong, but that last clash between Izuku and Todoroki was nothing short of spectacular, and he couldn't help but wonder what would've happened if he was in Izuku's shoes, and the infuriating part was that he didn't see himself coming out on top in that clash.
It made his blood boil that this weak, quirkless nerd was here in front of him. A final hurdle.
"Get ready Deku … today I'll finally bury you, and show you how far beneath me you really are" he declared, as his palms glowed red.
Izuku took a deep breath. In truth he was scared of Bakugo, but he couldn't back down, he would have to defeat Bakugo, and show him that he could be a hero.
"I-I know you don't think much of me … b-but today, I'll beat you! I'll show you I'm not weak or defenseless! I'll become a hero Kaachan! And you can't stop me!" he yelled back, as the match began.
"BIG TALK FOR A SHITTY NERD!!! I HOPE YOU CAN BACK UP YOUR WORDS!!!!" Bakugo roared, launching at him with a huge explosion.
Izuku had to duck under a powerful explosion, and rolled away from another attack from Bakugo. He blocked a punch, and flipped Bakugo over just like he did the first time they had fought, but unlike the last time, Bakugo used an explosion to get free and blasted Izuku in the chest, sending him tumbling back across the cement ground.
He grit his teeth and got up, rushing back into the fight. It was very clear that he was slower than before, his body hadn't recovered from his fight with Todoroki, and his arms were still not completely healed.
Bakugo had the advantage, and took it. He was absolutely merciless in his attacks, and didn't hold back or show the slightest of restraint. The fight was turning ugly, and Izuku was on the end of a bullying, in simple terms. No matter what Bakugo threw at him, he just kept getting back up. It infuriated him to no end that this quirkless Deku didn't know when to give up.
He should stay down like the cockroach that he was. He released another powerful explosion, and coughed out blood as Izuku had punched him clean across the face. He bombarded Izuku with full powered explosions at point blank range, grinning like a mad person.
"He's taking it too far!" Mina exclaimed worried for Izuku's safety.
"I knew he didn't like him, but I didn't think it was to this extent …" Jirou added with a small frown.
"This fight is over … just give up Midoriya …" was what Momo thought.
She hated seeing how ugly the fighting was, and how injured Izuku was. He was never really at full strength, and Bakugo was not a merciful opponent. Izuku got kicked across the face, and was sent tumbling to the ground. It seemed like he was finally down and out.
Bakugo stopped his attack, panting. He hated to admit it, but Izuku had pushed him to his limit. A nerd like him! His eyes widened in rage as Izuku struggled to get back up, and he roared.
"STAY DOWN YOU DAMNED DEKU!!!!" Izuku took another hard punch to his face, but he tanked it, glaring back at Bakugo.
The pieces were starting to fit together. All the anger at Bakugo for everything he had done to him, all the times he beat him, told him he wasn't good enough, made him feel worthless. All those memories came flooding in, on the verge of defeat. He spat out a mixture of spit and blood, and looked at his opponent.
"I won't … back down … I'll beat you" he said in defiance.
Bakugo roared and released a powerful explosion at him, one that he knew would completely take out his already injured opponent.
"STAY DOWN YOU WORTHLESS DEKU!!!"
Izuku watched the blast come at him in slow motion, his life flashing before his eyes. He couldn't afford to lose. He had to win, for himself, for All Might, and for Yaoyorozu. He wasn't weak, he wasn't quirkless, and he was not afraid of Bakugo anymore.
"I … WON'T LOSE!!!" he roared, as the arena exploded with a surge of power, blowing away the entire explosion.
Izuku seemed like a new person, and it shocked everyone. His eyes were glowing green, he had lightning sparking around him, and his hair had spiked up and was looking wild. He launched at a startled Bakugo, landing a punch that made him cough out blood.
Before he could be sent flying back Izuku grabbed his leg, and smashed him into the ground. It became ugly, but this time it was Izuku giving the beating. He was kicking Bakugo around, punching him all over the arena. Bakugo released an explosion at point blank range, and it damaged him, but it didn't seem to affect Izuku.
The green haired teen had gone berserk, all his anger manifesting. Everyone watched in shock, especially his classmates who had never seen him in such a state before. Izuku had a blank expression on his face, and his tongue was hanging out of his mouth like a dog. His eyes however glowed with a burning raging intensity as he kicked his opponent around.
"I'M NOT LOSING TO A LOSER LIKE YOU!! I'D RATHER DIE!!!" Bakugo roared, as he took off into the sky preparing his ultimate move.
He began to spin rapidly, in a violent tornado of heat and dust. The tornado of pure destruction flew down at Izuku, who had the same blank look on his face, as he jumped, throwing his own attack.
"HOWITZER IMPACT!!!!"
"DETROIT SMASH!!!!"
The explosion was even worse than the match against Todoroki, and the entire arena, and even up to the stands were completely levelled. Everyone stared in horror at the destruction, and hope that no one died in that attack.
As the dust cleared however, they all roared in awe, as standing proudly, beaten, broken, but injured, was Izuku. Bakugo much like Todoroki had been embedded into the wall, completely unconscious.
HE'S DONE IT AGAIN!!! YOUR WINNER … IZUKU MIDORIYA!!!!
Izuku roared up to the sky, screaming his lungs out. He felt so alive, and so dead at the same time. All the past had washed away. He beat Bakugo. He showed him that he wasn't useless, wasn't weak. He wasn't the Deku that Bakugo said he was. And most of all … he had saved a friend from herself. The state of his body then hit him full force.
His entire body was broken. That form he had used had taken everything from him, and he collapsed to the floor, but with a smile on his face. He did it …
"Ugh … my head …" he groaned out as he forced his eyes open. He felt like he had been hit by a bullet train.
"Oh you're awake, that's a relief" a voice spoke up, it was Recovery Girl.
"You missed the entire award ceremony and everything. Seriously! Do you have a death wish or something?" she queried, checking up on him.
"Sorry about that …" he apologized.
"That's beside the point. The gamble you took paid off, so congratulations on winning the sports festival" she said with a small smile.
"T-Thank you …"
All Might came into the room a few minutes later in his buff form. "I AM HERE!!! TO CONGRATULATE YOU ON YOUR VICTORY!!!" he bellowed, earning a withering glare from Recovery Girl.
The pro hero then coughed out a comical amount of blood and poofed back into his regular skinny form, but still held the same bright smile.
"Congratulations young Midoriya. You did exactly what you said you would. You have no idea how proud of you I am"
"Thank you All Might …" Izuku said, eyes watering at the pride his teacher and mentor had for him.
"So" the man began sitting down. "What was that against Bakugo?" he asked, getting straight to the point.
Izuku looked down to his bandaged hands, and shook his head. "I can't say I know All Might … he just pushed me to a corner and I sort of …"
"Snapped" Recovery Girl finished, as if taking the words from his mouth. "You looked like some sort of crazed dog y'know. I really thought you had finally gone crazy" she added, fiddling with a needle.
Both males chuckled at her description, then Izuku continued with his explanation.
"I knew my body was getting injured, but I didn't care at that point. All I wanted to do was to beat Kaachan, and all I was seeing was him … it wasn't a feeling I had ever given root in me. I felt anger, resentment, and I wanted to crush him … and a part of me still holds that feeling" he said, his brows scrunching up a bit at the thought.
All Might nodded in understanding. "You don't have to feel bad about it. It's what makes us all human. Just make sure what you're feeling doesn't cloud your judgment in the future"
"I'll make sure to do that …"
All Might got up, and headed for the door, with Recovery Girl following him shortly. "Your mother is worried about you, so I'll be taking you home, but you have a visitor. Meet me outside when you're done"
A few moments after they had left, Momo entered the room. "I'm glad to see that you're finally awake" she said sitting down.
A few moments of tense silence fell between them, neither knowing how to begin the conversation. Izuku then cleared his throat.
"I uh … I don't know what to say … I'm really bad at this" he admitted.
"I think I should be the one to start … by thanking you" she began. "You kept your word, as dangerous, and dumb, and impractical and insane and as reckless as that was, you still did it. So thank you Midoriya, you've given me hope that I too can become a hero. I won't give up, and I'll get stronger, just like you did"
He smiled at his classmate, and nodded. "I'm just happy that you won't give up on your dream. I've done my part here, the rest is up to you now"
"Yeah … I promise you that I won't disappoint you" she said with determination.
It seemed like the ice was finally broken between the two, and they could move on from being classmates, to being friends. Izuku packed his stuff and headed outside with her, where her driver was waiting.
"I'll see you next week Yaoyorozu …" he said, spotting All Might in his car.
"Wait …"
"Huh?" Momo handed him a small piece of paper. "My contact info … since we're friends now" she said with a smile.
Izuku took the paper from her, looking dumbfounded. "See you next week Midoriya. I'll be expecting your text later" she waved and left.
It took All Might honking at him to drag him back to reality. Another girl's contact info, that wasn't his mom, or Uraraka.
"S-Sorry! I'll be right there!"
A/N: I sincerely apologize for the obviously rushed chapter. Fight scenes ain't my thing, nor will they ever be. I just wanted to breeze through it and get it done, but apologies if it was bad. To be honest this is probably the only chapter in this entire story that will be completely dedicated to something like a fight. Again, not something I'm good at.
And I know that realistically there's no way in hell Izuku was beating Bakugo, especially with all his injuries, but then again, it's a fanfic for a reason. Forgive the sudden out of the blue ass pull Super Saiyan Berserk mode ripoff I came up with. That was really the only way he was winning, so yeah. Enough of my rambling.
See you next chapter!
