Kings Landing Red Keep
The one word to describe what is happening is panic. The minute that word was heard about the Iron Islands rebellion with their lord Balon declaring himself King, it was thought of as a joke. Upon hearing of the attack on Lannisport, everything changed. It didn't stop there as attacks were reported north and south as well as raids going through the lands. King Aerys could be heard upon his throne yelling enraged. He wanted to make a final example of them and wipe them out. Burn House Greyjoy to the ground and erased from history. He was going to send his royal fleet to attack but his Hand Lord Connington convince him not to. King's Landing would need the protection. Better to send others to do so.
Now the small council consisting of Grand Maester Pycelle, Master of Coin Lord Qarlton Chelsted, Master of Laws Lord Symond Staunton, Master of Ships Lord Lucerys Velaryon, Master of Whisperers Varys, Lord Commander of the Kingsguard Ser Gerold Hightower, Queen Rhaella, Prince Rhaegar, and Princess Elia were talking about what should be done. Ideas were thrown around, but one thing was apparent.
"The kingdoms are divided" stated Rhaegar placing his elbows on the table and crossing his fingers. "The kingdoms are recovering and only looking for themselves at the moment. Who would actually send their only defense to fight the Ironborn" he finished making many of them frown.
"Stannis has a strong fleet" spoke up Qarlton.
"But would he send it to fight the Ironborn after the last rebellion. We are still hunting his older brother" answered Rhaegar.
"If the King demands it, he will!"
"Yes, but at what speed? He will probably take his time if they don't directly attack them. If the Ironborn are, they won't."
Then there was also the raiders who were raiding through the lands. Reports had them moving through the Westerlands and into the Riverlands, barely stopping. Were they making a run for King's Landing? Not a smart idea with that size of an army.
"We still have the Redwyne Fleet" he continued. "Varys, what have you heard?"
Looking towards the bald man, he watched he stand up and point down at the map on the large table. "There is a Ironborn fleet attacking the Riverlands and the North. The North had called it's banners and marched to their coast to protect them, but that is as far as they go. They do not have a fleet to fight the Ironborn at sea.
With the Riverlands forces divided between protecting their ports and chasing the raiders out, they are unable to assist in any other way. Another Ironborn fleet is attacking the Reach in small raids while continuing south" he explained making some eyes widen on the fact that they had a second fleet. "I currently do not know of their goals besides what was stated. I have more birds out looking for more information" he finished.
"We will order the Baratheon fleet to set sail and combat the Southern Ironborn fleet. The Redwyne Fleet will fight the Northern Ironborn fleet. We shall gather our armies and march towards the islands. Whichever fleet defeats the Ironborn fleet first, we will use as transports to attack the Island Island's. What is our force strength Lord Hightower?" he questioned at the end facing the standing man in armor.
"From King's Landing we can muster up a force of 10,000 strong. We can get another 50,000 from the Reach. Riverland can't be counted on until the threats attacking them are removed. The Dorne can send 10,000 on short notice but more if given time. Dragonstone has 10,000 but under King's orders they are to stay put with their ships. The Lannister are chasing the enemy, so it's not known what their force strength is. The North, Stormlands, and Vale is unknown as well since they are keeping little contact with the crown. An offer would have to be made in order to gain their full support" he finished.
"That makes 70,000 men against a unknown amount of Ironborn" stated Rhaegar as the doors were slammed open to reveal the King and his Hand marching through.
The King moved to the head of the table to sit in his empty chair as Lord Connington stood behind him. He looked around the room with a glare before slamming his hand on the table startling some. "Well? What has my 'council' come up with to get rid of these Ironborn" he stated while saying council sarcastically.
Taking the ire of his father, Rhaegar explained the plan. "My King. The Redwyne fleet will fight the Northern Ironborn fleet, and the Baratheon fleet will fight the Southern fleet. The Lannister and Riverland armies will wipe out the inland raiders while our army with the Reach and Dorne armies will march upon the Iron Islands"
"I couldn't help but to notice that you send nothing of the North and Vale. What are they doing? Will they not answer the King's call? Will I have to burn them too after I'm done with the Iron Islands?" he questioned with a cruel grin making many shiver.
"We have not factor them into the plans due to our current relations with them. We will have to negotiate with them to make sure they stay loyal to the crown and not attempt to rebel again against us. We already have little ties with them" he explained making the King look at him enraged.
"It seems you have a plan to do so on your mind already 'boy'. Speak it!"
"The taxes we increased; we can lower it down back to before their rebellion. We can also agree to foster or arrange marriages with the kingdoms. Viserys would be ideal" he offered. It was a risk, but this would be a good way for his brother to get out of their father's control. The North and Vale would install great qualities into him.
"Viserys? NO! I won't allow it. He will not King's Landing!" he roared as he started spitting insults at him. The King took a pause to think before a thought came to mind.
"Does the North still face threats from those wildlings?" he questioned to receive a confused "yes". "I will allow the lowering of the rebel's taxes and I will send 'YOUR' daughter North. Visenya will either become the warrior like her ancestor was, or she will die" he started much to the widening of the rooms eyes. Looking at the map he pointed a sharpen nail at a location in the North.
The Gift
"This is owned by the Night's watch. No more. In return for the watch giving up the Gift, a castle will be constructed there to house her and her future army. She is to only take orders from the crown and her purpose is to wage war on the wildlings until they are wiped out. She will also serve a second purpose. If the Stark's ever turn against me again, she will deliver me all their heads" he ordered with a cruel smirk as some could see the purpose in this, others see underneath it. She will prevent any further Northern rebellions and if they do, they will force her to be a kinslayer. A cruel purpose.
"My King"
"You have my orders!" he yelled standing up and walking out signaling the meeting is over.
Everyone followed the King outside the doors but along the walk through the halls Rhaella pulled her son to the side to talk with Elia alone. Entering their private chambers with Arthur Dayne securing the entrance, the three sat down to talk.
"I'm sorry mom. I tried to get Viserys away from his clutch, but he is fighting me at every turn" Rhaegar apologized as she shook her head and held his hands in hers.
"It's not your fault. He always keeps him close. We just have to keep trying to do so another way" she stated making him nod at her. "One thing we need to discuss that's been put off long enough is Visenya" she spoke as he removed his hands from hers and stood up.
Facing away from her, he couldn't help to frown as he looked out the window to the room. How was he supposed to face such a issue when he is reminded of 'her' every time he looks at her. His mistake that cost him one of his loves and numerous lives.
"Rhaegar. You can't keep running from this. She has no connection to any of her family members on either side. She doesn't talk to us and has only been moving further away. Now she is going to be sent to another Kingdom where they most likely hate her. We can't let her leave thinking we hate her too" she finished.
"And how I'm supposed to fix this mistake? I'm leaving to war, and she is being sent away. The rest of the family will be locked to King's Landing until the war is over" he spoke as frustration leaked into his voice.
Elia standing up, grabbed his arm to make him face her and place her hands on his face lovingly. "You are Rhaegar Targaryen, Crown Prince and heir to the throne. You will fix this because you must. You are a dragon. Act like it" she finished encouraging him and making him smile.
"You are right. I will fix this before I leave. She will know that this side of the family loves her" he answered determined to do so. It's unfortunate that he doesn't have the time and his responsibilities take precedence.
Dragonstone
Approaching the opening in the cave in, Visenya and the twins had the workers step back for them examine it. There was no light covering from it but placing her hand near it, she could feel something for it.
"Warm" she stated in confusion before stepping back. Giving the order to widen the hole for them to step through, she only had to wait a few moments before the task was complete. Grabbing a torch she stepped forward first to see the small tunnel widening.
She could tell the cave opened up massively but it was strangely very warm compared to the other caves they ventured into. Leading the three to the walls she came across an unlit torch connected to the wall. Lighting it up she saw another torch on the wall in the distance in different directions. Getting the idea, the three spilt up to light each torch making a full circle around the cave to illuminate it to show shocking things.
Centered in the middle were bones of different sorts of animals. There were even broken and hatched dragons eggs in certain locations signaling that a dragon did live here in the past. Which one was still unknown. Across different sections of the wall were pockets of dragonglass.
"Look" pointed out Doron at a table placed against the side of the wall holding up stacks of books and scrolls. Walking up to it, Visenya was going to go through it but stopped upon seeing images scribbled on the wall. It showed images of small people working with another group of people to fight a demonic looking group of people. There were other images on the wall that confused her. She knew they were old paintings of some sort of history but what?
Looking back at the table she looked at the first book causing her eyes to widen. "This book is in High Valyrian!". Being able to read and speak it she continued upon learning more from it. "This book. It's actually from Valyria itself! And in such amazing condition". Looks through other books and scrolls to see that they were as well.
"The cave must have kept them in good condition upon being sealed up. Away from the outside conditions and away from people constantly touching them" explained Aidin. Looking at them he couldn't understand a word on the pages. "Does any of this explains the pictures on the wall?"
Reading through some of it to gain some answers, her eyes just remained glue to the book until Aidin shook her out of it. "Oh. Well according to this book, those paintings match the looks of the Children of the Forest. The men next to them are the First Men. They seem to be fighting each other first but then started fighting something called the White Walkers or also called The Others" she explained reading more as the twins looked at her wide eyed.
"Those stories of the old? They are real!" shouted Aidin as she nodded.
"Dragons and magic are real so I don't see why they can't be" she explained to his confusion. "I get the dragons but magic?"
"What do you think the rest of these books contain?" she smirked at him. "You mean?". "Yes. These books go cover magical things and magic in general. Whoever placed these books here was using them to study the pictures" she explained thinking about all the doors this opens up to her- "Hey!" called out Doron interrupting her thoughts.
"These are not rocks" he added crouching down and looking at a couple of objects in a pile. Placing the book down, she looked over to what he was looking at, causing her eyes to zero in on concentration. It took a second to process what she was looking at before she ran over to him and drop to her knees in front of the pile.
Placing a shaky hand on one of them, she could feel the warmth it gave off to her. She could feel it travel down her arm and through her body. Like an instant connection. "Dragon eggs" she whispered answering the unspoken question about the clutch of 8 objects.
