Jade spun her staff in a blur, aiming a crushing strike at Sonya's ribs. Sonya barely ducked in time, feeling the wind of the attack brush past her head. She retaliated with a powerful uppercut, but Jade twisted away, landing gracefully before lunging again. Across the courtyard, Lance grappled with Tanya, their fight a brutal clash of skill and speed. Tanya's glowing tonfas slashed toward his chest, but he sidestepped, catching her wrist with his metal arm and twisting it. She snarled, flipping to break free, but Lance was already moving, driving his knee into her stomach. Jade pressed Sonya back, flipping over her with acrobatic finesse, trying to land a precise strike. But Sonya had seen enough of her tactics. As Jade landed, Sonya caught her with a brutal leg sweep, knocking the Edenian off her feet. Before Jade could recover, Sonya flipped forward, landing a crushing stomp onto her chest. Jade gasped, eyes widening in pain just as Sonya grabbed her by the arm, twisted it behind her back, and delivered a devastating knife-hand strike to the base of her skull. Jade slumped to the ground, unconscious.

Meanwhile, Tanya hissed in frustration, her movements becoming more erratic. She lashed out at Lance with a blazing kick, but he caught her leg mid-air with his metal hand. With a growl, he yanked her off balance, slamming her onto the stone ground. Tanya groaned, rolling to escape, but Lance was faster. He pressed his boot against her back, forcing her down. "You're done," he said firmly.

Tanya struggled for a moment, snarling. "You're lucky. If I were at my best—"

"Save it," Sonya cut in, stepping beside Lance. "I already beat you once. Guess you didn't learn the first time." Tanya seethed, but she was too weakened to fight back.

"Another victory for us," Liu Kang noted, arms crossed as he observed the fallen edenians. "They're running out of champions."

Kung Lao nodded but let out a short breath. "Or maybe I'm running out of opportunities."

Liu Kang glanced at him, confused. "What do you mean?"

"If I'm going to challenge Goro, I need to prove myself, fast."

As if fate had answered him, Shang Tsung stood from his throne, his voice carrying over the courtyard. "The next fighter will be a Shokan. And not just any Shokan, one of Goro's seven wives. Sheeva!"

A hush fell over the crowd as the four-armed warrior stomped into the courtyard, her towering frame casting an imposing shadow. She let out a guttural roar, her crimson eyes sweeping over the gathered warriors. The spectators shrank back at the sheer power emanating from her.

"Who dares stand against her?" Shang Tsung challenged.

Kung Lao smirked, glancing at Liu Kang before stepping forward. "I am Kung Lao, descendant of the Great Kung Lao. I will defeat this shokan as well as Goro and restore honor to my family name!"

Sheeva's laughter was a low, rumbling growl. "You, boy? You wouldn't last a moment against a true Shokan, let alone one of the greatest!"

"Fight!" Shang Tsung declared.

The two warriors rushed at each other. Sheeva came in swinging, her four arms a whirlwind of raw power. Kung Lao ducked beneath the first strike, sidestepped the second, and barely evaded the third, but the fourth came crashing down. He managed to block with his forearms, but the sheer force sent him skidding backward. Sheeva wasted no time, closing the gap with a powerful stomp that cracked the stone beneath her. The shockwave sent Kung Lao airborne, but he flipped mid air, using the momentum to launch his razor-edged hat at her face. Sheeva swatted the hat aside with ease, but it was a distraction. Kung Lao teleported behind her, reappearing just in time to deliver a brutal kick to the back of her head. She staggered but quickly regained her footing, snarling.

"You fight well for a human," she admitted before lunging forward, her arms grabbing at him from multiple angles. Kung Lao twisted, barely avoiding her grip. He slid between her legs, using his speed to his advantage. As Sheeva turned, he struck with a rapid series of kicks to her midsection, forcing her to take a step back. Enraged, Sheeva roared and leaped high into the air.

"Move!" Liu Kang shouted from the sidelines. Kung Lao's instincts kicked in, and he rolled to the side just as Sheeva came crashing down, her fists pounding into the ground where he had stood a second earlier. Dust and debris exploded around her impact zone. Sheeva, expecting to have crushed him, barely had time to react as Kung Lao sprang forward, his hat spinning in hand. He slashed it across her shoulder, drawing blood, then spun low and swept her legs. Sheeva fell, but before she hit the ground, Kung Lao teleported above her and came down with a devastating kick to her chest. The Shokan warrior crashed into the stone floor, groaning in pain.

Kung Lao landed gracefully, standing tall as Sheeva struggled to rise. "Still think I can't challenge the might of the Shokan?" Sheeva gritted her teeth and growled, but her body betrayed her. She could barely stand.

"You… are strong," she admitted begrudgingly.

Kung Lao spun his hat once before placing it back on his head. "Stronger than you thought. Strong enough to kill your husband."

Shang Tsung narrowed his eyes, displeased with the outcome.

On the sidelines, Mileena folded her arms. "So it's true? He actually is the Great Kung Lao's descendant?"

Kitana observed him carefully before shaking her head. "He looks like him, but… his bravado reminds me more of Johnny Cage. He is nothing like his ancestor."

Mileena snickered. "Ah yes, I always forget. You and the Great Kung Lao had a… complicated relationship." Kitana shot her a sharp glance but said nothing.

Shang Tsung's gaze lingered on Kung Lao, intrigued. "Interesting… very interesting indeed. This Kung Lao may just be as dangerous as Liu Kang, Kenshi and all the rest."

Kung Lao returned to Liu Kang, flashing a confident smirk. "Another win for us, wouldn't you say, Cousin?"

Liu Kang nodded. "Indeed, but you took risks. Sheeva could have crushed you."

Kung Lao chuckled, brushing dust from his shoulder. "But she didn't. And now the Shokan know I'm a real threat."

Before Liu Kang could respond, Raiden stepped forward, his presence alone silencing those around him. His piercing eyes studied Kung Lao. "Your victory was well earned, but do not let arrogance cloud your path. You still have much to prove."

Kung Lao's smirk faltered for a brief moment. "I am proving myself, Lord Raiden. I just defeated one of Goro's own."

Raiden remained stoic. "And yet Goro himself remains undefeated. Do not mistake one battle for the war."

Liu Kang placed a reassuring hand on Kung Lao's shoulder. "He means that you should stay focused. The tournament is far from over."

Kung Lao exhaled, nodding. "I know. But tell me, Liu Kang, was I not impressive?"

Liu Kang smiled. "You were. But—"

"That's all I needed to hear," Kung Lao interrupted, grinning as he adjusted his hat.

Nearby, Johnny Cage gave an exaggerated slow clap. "Not bad, Shaolin. Not bad at all. But let's not pretend that was the main event. Johnny Cage always stars in the final act."

Kung Lao rolled his eyes. "Not if I have anything to say about it, Cage."

Sonya crossed her arms. "Can we focus? That was great and all, but Sheeva wasn't nearly as big as Goro, and Shang Tsung's fighters are only gonna get tougher from here."

Shang Tsung, still seated, tapped his fingers against the armrest of his throne, a smirk playing on his lips. "Such confidence, such determination. I look forward to seeing if it lasts."
