Chapter 2: In the Presence of Power

--

The void was silent.

Darkness stretched endlessly across the stars, broken only by the drifting platform and the bound monument that towered above it. The ancient statue—colossal and motionless—loomed in silence, arms reaching skyward. Thick golden chains glowed with celestial energy, binding the great stone hand in place. It hadn't moved for centuries.

The Hooded One stepped forward, the faint shimmer of his white, battle-worn mask catching the starlight. The mysterious black symbol etched across its surface pulsed faintly—responding to something unseen.

He placed a gloved hand upon the cold stone.

"Now, with the Power Star, I release you from your prison," he said softly.

Nothing happened.

The void remained still. No tremor. No shift.

His voice deepened, calm but filled with restrained frustration. "I see… Strong magic has you imprisoned... Not even with the Power Star alone can you be unbound."

Then, a flicker.

Golden light traced across the statue's surface—an ethereal pulse igniting ancient inscriptions along the chains. Arcane symbols flared to life, swirling across the stone's base in a spiral of forgotten language.

The Hooded One stepped back, watching intently.

"…The Ancient text," he muttered.

He raised the Power Star, its light reflecting off the runes. They shifted, rearranged, and translated into a whispering script only he could hear.

"So… you are bound unless I find someone with the Light of the Masters."

The wind—if it could be called that—swirled faintly through the dark.

"So be it," he whispered. "With this Power Star... I will use its power to guide me."

He held the Power Star before him.

"Show me… the nearest one who carries the trace of the Masters' Light."

The star pulsed once—then burst into radiant gold.

Before him, a swirling portal formed. Within it, a peaceful star-shaped planet slowly came into view. A place untouched by darkness… yet not for long.

The Hooded One stared into the light. His voice lowered to a whisper, filled with dark certainty.

"The time will come when you will be unbound and free from your prison."

And with that, he stepped into the portal—and vanished.

Mushroom Kingdom – Near Peach's Castle

Yoshi sprinted across the rolling fields, his legs a blur of speed. Trees whipped past. Hills flattened beneath his stride. The castle stood on the horizon—tall, radiant, and silent.

He saw Mario—briefly—standing on the rooftop.

"Yoshi!" (Mario!)

He jumped to the rooftop, heart pounding.

But when he landed… Mario was gone.

Confused, Yoshi turned—

And saw Bowser standing behind him.

"Bahaha! Thought you could ruin my plans by telling Mario what happened back on your island, huh?" Bowser snarled, his voice booming across the rooftop. "Well too bad! I have new powers—and I am going to rule the Mushroom Kingdom!"

Yoshi took a step back, eyes narrowing, but Bowser raised his claw, glowing with pulsing green magic.

"Now, with my powers... I will fog your memory!" Bowser bellowed. "You'll remember only what I allow."

Green magic surged into Yoshi's eyes.

His body jolted as the spell took hold. His eyes widened… then glazed over. His thoughts scattered—memories of battle, of Luigi, of the captured Yoshis—all melted into fog.

Only one thought remained. A single whisper before it too slipped away:

"Yoshi... Yoshi yoshi..." (Mario... I have something to tell you...)

Then Yoshi was completely hypnotized. His mind blank. He wandered across the castle rooftop like a mindless zombie.

Satisfied, Bowser pulled his hand back.

"Perfect."

He vanished in a burst of flame, leaving Yoshi dazed and alone—standing silently as if nothing had ever happened.

Yoshi's Island – The Captured

Kamek hovered above a fleet of dark airships as robotic minions carried cages filled with Yoshis—and their unhatched eggs.

Luigi, trapped in a reinforced cage, clutched the bars as he watched helplessly.

A glowing projection appeared beside Kamek—Bowser's face, shrouded in green flames.

Kamek straightened midair. "Lord Bowser, is everything alright?"

Bowser grinned, fangs gleaming. "More than alright. That green lizard has been taken care of."

He chuckled darkly. "I gave him a little… memory wipe. Hypnotized him right on the castle roof. Now, he remembers nothing."

Kamek's eyes lit up with delight.

"Brilliant, my lord! I knew you could do it. Your new powers sure have come in handy!" He cackled.

Bowser gave a satisfied grunt. "Now—status update. How's the operation on your end?"

Kamek turned to observe the final cages being locked in place.

"We're finishing up now. The last of the Yoshis and their eggs are loaded. Luigi remains caged. In just a few moments, we'll be airborne and headed back to your castle."

Behind him, the fleet of airships rumbled to life.

"Excellent. I'm sure our new friend will be happy with the results!" Bowser grinned. "Soon, I will have Mario begging for mercy!"

The transmission cut out.

Kamek floated down beside Luigi's cage.

He leaned in close to the bars, sneering.

"Your plan's over. Your brother is in for it now!"

Luigi didn't respond—but his fists clenched tightly. Fire burned in his eyes.

Kamek flew into the air and positioned himself in front of the fleet.

"All ships—begin flight!" he shouted.

One by one, the airships rose into the sky, casting shadows over Yoshi's Island as they disappeared into the clouds—bound for Bowser's kingdom.

Meanwhile – Peach's Castle

[Events of Super Mario64]

Mario dashed through the castle halls. Quick flashes showed his progress:

Collecting Power Stars

Diving through enchanted paintings

One by one, defeating Bowser's generals

Unlocking sealed doors

Racing through time, gravity, and ghosts

He fought Bowser once in the Dark World, and again in the Fire Sea—throwing the King of Koopas into explosive traps and forcing him to retreat each time.

With every victory, the castle changed—forcing Bowser to retreat further to the top of the castle.

Now finally, Mario had gathered all the Power Stars accessible on the third floor. He approached the final door.

He held out the stars, and their golden light ignited—unlocking the sealed door to the towering staircase beyond.

The dark enchantment dissolved.

The path forward revealed itself.

He ascended the once-endless staircase until he reached the top—where a massive painting of Bowser loomed, twisted in a cruel grin.

Beneath it, a swirling portal had formed on the floor—like the top of a chimney, glowing with power.

Mario jumped straight into it.

While Mario battles to save the Mushroom Kingdom from Bowser's wicked grasp… far across the stars, on Planet Popstar, the kingdom of Dream Land slumbers in peace—unaware that a silent shadow draws near, and with it, the first whisper of doom.

--

Dream Land –

The sky burned with orange and gold as the sun dipped below the hills of Dream Land. A warm breeze rolled over the peaceful plains. Kirby and his friends sat on a grassy cliffside, watching the clouds drift by, laughing and resting without a care in the world.

Then Kirby's eyes caught something—a silhouette moving across the sky.

He squinted.

A massive airship floated through the sunset clouds—sleek, armored, and majestic.

Kirby's mouth opened in wonder. "Poyo...?" (The Halberd...!)

It was Meta Knight's ship, fully restored. The last he remembered, the legendary vessel had crash-landed into the sea.

Now, it soared once more.

Meta Knight had rebuilt it.

His knights had returned.

The Halberd was heading straight toward them.

Kirby stood up, bouncing on his feet with excitement. The others followed his gaze.

Then—

A flash tore across the sky.

Something fell from the stars like a meteor—burning through the atmosphere.

BOOM!

The object struck the Halberd mid-flight.

An explosion rocked the airship.

Flames burst from the hull as engines cracked and sputtered. The mighty Halberd spiraled into a nearby valley in a thunderous eruption of fire and steel.

A second crash followed—the fallen shard from the sky slammed into the nearby field, carving a long trench into the land.

Smoke rose. Fire licked the air. Debris scattered for miles.

Kirby and the others ran.

Two crash sites. Two disasters.

Kirby held his friends back.

"I'll check it out," he said, stepping forward.

Flames danced around the impact site. Trees shattered. Ash rained from the sky. In the center of the chaos stood a pillar of smoke—and behind it, something moved.

A silhouette.

Slow. Unshaken.

Kirby narrowed his eyes.

A figure stepped through the fire.

Its cloak flowed like liquid shadow. Its face was hidden beneath a white, battle-worn mask, scarred with time and etched with a strange black symbol at the center.

The stranger said nothing.

But Kirby could feel it.

A presence.

Power.

Darkness.

And yet... from within Kirby's chest, something pulsed.

A soft light. A radiant aura.

The figure paused.

"So... you're the one with a Master's Light," the voice murmured—low, calm, and unreadable.

"Interesting."

Kirby tilted his head. "Poyo?" (Master's Light?)

Before anything else could be said, King Dedede stormed to Kirby's side, his hammer raised.

"What did you do to that ship!?" he barked. "You think you can just crash into Dream Land and walk away?!"

He charged. Ready to swing.

The figure didn't move.

At the last second, he shifted—morphing into a warrior Kirby had never seen before. A legendary fighter, long lost to time.

In a flash, the masked figure caught him by the throat.

Dedede's hammer froze mid-swing.

"Wha—!?"

Dedede struggled, kicking wildly as the Hooded One lifted him off the ground. A sickly black mist wrapped around his hand as he pressed it into Dedede's chest.

Dedede groaned.

His life force flickered—drawn out like smoke.

Then, with a gut-wrenching punch, the figure sent Dedede flying, crashing into the dirt beside the others.

"Dedede!" one of Kirby's friends shouted.

Kirby clenched his fists.

He turned to his friends, shouting, "Go! Now!"

They hesitated—but saw the fire in his eyes.

They ran.

Kirby turned back to the invader.

The masked figure stood tall, watching him.

He could see the light burning inside Kirby. Now—clear, vibrant, and full of potential.

The air between them thickened.

Then, the Hooded One tilted his head slightly.

"So small… yet that light burns so brightly within you."

His voice lowered, the mask concealing all emotion.

"You may not understand it now… but you carry something ancient. Something I need."

He stepped forward once more.

"And if I must break you to claim it—so be it."

Without warning, he dashed forward—his cloak whipping behind him like shadow.

Kirby didn't flinch.

He charged to meet him.

The clash shook the air.

Light met darkness.
