Chapter 4

The sun was setting over the Konoha training grounds, casting long shadows as Team 8 wrapped up their sparring session. Hinata wiped some sweat off her forehead while Kiba stretched, and Shino adjusted his glasses.

"Alright, that's enough for today," Kiba said, plopping down on the grass. "Man, I could really go for some ramen."

"You always want ramen," Shino pointed out.

As Hinata giggled at their banter, she suddenly sensed a familiar chakra signature nearby. Turning her head, she spotted Sasuke Uchiha, hands in his pockets, casually strolling past the training field as if he had nowhere specific to be.

Hinata's face lit up. She always tried to be friendly with everyone, even Sasuke, who—despite his stoic nature—seemed to be trying (very, very awkwardly) to integrate back into the village.

With a bright smile, she called out: "Good evening, Sasuke-san!"

Sasuke, still half-lost in his thoughts, reflexively muttered the only farewell phrase his brain could come up with: "Rest in peace."

A long, painful silence followed.

Kiba froze mid-stretch. "Wait. WHAT?!"

Shino slightly turned his head, his bugs momentarily stopping in confusion.

Hinata blinked. "U-Uhm…?"

Kiba shot up, pointing an accusatory finger at Sasuke. "Did you just—DID YOU JUST SEND HER OFF TO THE NEXT LIFE?!"

Sasuke, finally realizing what he said, just exhaled through his nose and walked away like nothing happened.

Kiba was losing his mind. "BRO. EXPLAIN YOURSELF!"

Shino, adjusting his glasses: "This raises several questions."

Hinata, suppressing a laugh: "M-Maybe he meant 'Have a good night'?"

Kiba exaggerated, "NO. THAT'S NOT EVEN CLOSE."

Shino sighed, "At this point, I am beginning to suspect Uchiha customs are vastly different from ours."

Kiba, crossed his arms and sighed, "I swear, if he says, 'may your soul find peace' next time, I'm reporting him to the Hokage."

Meanwhile, Sasuke kept walking, absolutely refusing to acknowledge that he had, once again, wished Hinata a peaceful death instead of a peaceful evening.
