A/N Sphygmus, Science verses the supernatural would be like science verses religion. Both the supernatural and every single religion has their origin story and neither can be proven to scientific accuracy. Which means they're matters of personal belief.

But I think in another story I will have a scene where Dawn questions Giles on his rhetoric. He only mentions it once, in the first episode of Buffy and never revisits the subject again and at that point even Joss wouldn't have had an answer because he was still working out the over all mythos of the show. He was still debating whether Angel was a fallen angel being guided back on the path or Angelus all along and was only planning for him to be on for a few episodes and gone. The character had no arc at that point and the rhetoric had no point, just a means of hooking Buffy into a discussion on her Destiny. The points you made in your review could be used to help flesh out an extremely interesting and possibly very intense discussion at some point.

Thank you for giving me something new to think about. While I'm currently writing and trying to keep straight two stories. 😚

"Ms. Calendar, you got a minute?" Xander called a few hours after they'd returned from the Stargate reality. Xander had teleported Amy to her Dad's house, something he was now able to do carrying a passenger and left her in his care as she slept off her magical exhaustion. Joyce had taken her girls home for the evening to decompress after Dawn's latest mishap and Johnathan and Harmony had gone to the Bronze while he and Cordelia went to his place and explored his collection a little more, trying to decide which item to give Harmony to help keep her safe. She was a Scooby now too, after all.

"Sure, Xander, is something wrong?"

"There are things in my collection that shouldn't be in it." He told her. "Which I already knew, I mean it's supposed to be magical items under the protection of the Sorcerer Supreme. The things I gave Willow and Oz aren't magical and your force field glove was never under their protection in the comics. Tonight before we left to get Dawnie and Mrs. Summers, I mentioned we need to get a way to communicate with each other in a fight."

"It's a good idea, I'm sure we can find something small, but useful."

"I already have and that's my point. The Widow's Bite bracelets are Stark Industries technology and not magical at all. The Spider Bites and the dagger phasers are Wakandan technology and again, not magical. I just discovered Inhuman technology in my collection."

"Inhuman?" That was a name to make you sit up and take notice.

"Humans whose ancestors were experimented on by aliens thousands of years ago. After the aliens abandoned the experiment, the society created a rite of passage using left behind alien crystals that forced them to evolve. They're humans, but even those that don't undergo the rite of passage are physically fit beyond an Olympic athlete. The ones that do under go the rite have powers and it's a mixed bag of good and bad. They also followed their own technological path. I just found a dozen communicators from the Inhuman comics series in my collection. The Sanctum can grow and change, I've seen that for myself and that's lore from the comics. I'm beginning to wonder if my collection can too, I'm inventorying it as fast as I can, but the fact that I've found things in it that shouldn't be there, not to mention, rather convenient, makes me wonder why."

"The Sanctum is connected to you, you can sense it. The Magic that created it made you its Guardian."

"Yeah and I'm doing my best to keep it safe."

"Magic is neutral, but it answers to the spoken as well as the unspoken."

Xander understood what she was saying. "The Magic is active, it's answering to me, to my knowledge of the comic books. That could be a huge problem, Ms. Calendar, the comics have items theoretically capable of ending all life in the Universe. Some of what I knew from the comics was in the Sanctum was already dangerous, if the Magic in the Sanctum has the possibility of creating even more dangerous items just because they're in the comics and I know they could exist, I could make them exist. No one should have that power, Ms. Calendar, it's too dangerous. There are things in the comics -. Aliens, alien technology, things that could wipe out planets. I don't want that kind of power!"

"Than make sure both you and the Sanctum understand that, the Sanctum responds to you, Xander. If you don't want that power and it's capable of understanding that on some level, than it won't let you have it. I hope, because that is a power no one should have. The Sanctum is capable of learning because of the Magic, teach it."

"I'm scared."

"So am I." She admitted. "But I trust you."

"I'm seventeen! I don't trust myself! How did something like did this happen?!"

"I don't have answers for all your questions, Xander, I'm sorry. Maybe I'm not a very good Ancient One."

"The Ancient One was hundreds of years old, Ms. Calendar and didn't always get it right either. Keep me from getting lost, please?" Jenny's heart ached as she understood, he meant, he didn't want to be consumed by the power at his disposal. And she currently had no idea what to do to help him.

"I'll do my best." She promised and heard Cordelia's voice.

"Hey, you turn evil and I'll kick your ass, Doofus."

"Love you too, Cordy."
