Mayor Richard Wilkins looked up from where he was organizing his work for the day at the sound of a noise coming from outside his office door. Followed by bangs, snarls and yelps before his door crashed open and a vampire was thrown into the room and a figure strode in after it. It was like nothing Richard Wilkins had ever seen before and he'd been working with demons for over a century now. It had the body of a man probably around six feet tall and was wearing black boots, black jeans and a black t-shirt.

It's face was bizarre though, some kind of game face maybe, but definitely different from the moaning vampire with a no doubt broken back on the floor. This fellow's face was white, bleached bone white, with black lips and black smudges around the eyes. A verticle line ran though each eye and horizontal lines made for a jokeresque smile, terrifying and not at all funny. He didn't say a word as he calmly walked over to the downed vampire, lifted his booted foot and slammed it down on its head, crushing it. The vampire turned to dust as the being turned that sinister face toward the Mayor and jumped across the office and landed gracefully on the desk, settling into a squat as his eyes bored into Richard's.

"Faith is terminating her employment with you." The being informed him.

"Isn't that usually done by the employee in question, either in person or in writing?" He tried to keep his unease hidden, whatever this being was, he was powerful. "And who or what are you?"

"I am vengeance incarnate." The being answered. "This room...it screams with the pain of your victims. So many tortured and died by your hand, they're crying out for vengeance and mine will be the hand that delivers it."

"Quite dramatic, I'm sure. You can't just threaten the Mayor of Sunnydale, there are cameras in City Hall unlike other public buildings and unless you're able to hide yourself from them the police will find you, they work for me after all."

"Thank you for that information, more names to add to the list for vengeance. Tell me all your secrets...Dickie."

"Now see here, young man -!" The being reached out and grasped the Mayor's head between his hands and Wilkins saw flashes of his own life and stared in disbelief at the being as he realized this creature now knew all his secrets, every last one of them. Including where to find the recordings the cameras were making and the fact the cameras weren't manned, all of which would make it easy to destroy the evidence that this being had ever been in City Hall, let alone responsible for the Mayor's fate.

"Time to feel the pain of your victims, Dickie." The Mayor's heart gave out long before he ever felt all of the pain being transferred to him from the room where he'd tortured and killed people and the ceremonial objects in the closet on the other side of the room where the instruments he'd used were kept, but he still felt a good portion of it as the being's eyes bored into his own and the hands continued to hold his head until the life went out of him, a look of terror and pain etched into his face forever.

Xander let go of the Mayor and felt his hands shaking, some distant part of him registering the fact that he'd just killed a man. A man who'd sold his soul for power and tortured and sacrificed humans, especially children and even babies for a solid century, all in the hopes of becoming a demon himself and not just any demon, an Old One, monsterously huge and powerful. He wanted to cry for the dead, but he couldn't, not yet, there was still too much to do and answers to questions that needed to be asked. He wasn't even sure he knew all the questions, but he couldn't stop until he had them.

He made his way to the camera room and destroyed the equipment and torched the tapes before heading to school, not even knowing yet that his face had changed to that jokeresque look that had scared the Mayor and was now returning to normal. He transformed into his crow form and took to the sky, trying to blot out the horror and praying something good came out of this nightmare he'd found himself in. He landed on the roof by the skylight over the Library and looked down through it. He could hear his friends talking, Buffy, Giles, Willow along with Angel, discussing the success of last night's operation against Faith.

No mention was made of him or of Angel knocking him out, just congratulating themselves on exposing Faith and what they were going to do about her and the Mayor's plans. They continued to talk until the bell rang signaling the warning that homeroom started soon, at which point Buffy and Willow left and Angel made his way through the stacks to the sewer entrance. Xander waited until they were gone and then walked over to the edge of the roof and jumped down, making his way to his own homeroom, thinking that for now, at least, it was his turn to keep secrets.

If he'd waited just a moment longer he would have seen a flash in the stacks and seen the form of a sleeping girl appear. As it was, since no one except the Scooby Gang and the two Watchers ever went into the Library, no one saw her arrive.
