Chapter 19: Constant Fighting

Already thirty weeks along now, Dean was beginning to be very tired in what seemed like always. Why didn't anyone tell him it would be so difficult? Oh right, he wasn't supposed to be the one pregnant.

He always imagined himself with a wife if he had children but that never happened. He never tried to hold on to the girlfriends he did have because he was afraid to subject them to his life as a hunter. He was so tired but unable to sleep because of the kicks from the baby at night. He tried to hide it from Sam and Jessica since he did not want to be a burden. Today was one instance he couldn't hide it very well. They were folding their clean clothes at the laundromat when they saw Dean was unable to keep his eyes open and was struggling to not fall asleep as he was folding his pile.

Jessica tapped Sam and pointed at Dean. He looked to where she was pointing and got up and went over putting a hand on his brothers' shoulder shaking him awake.

Dean immediately woke up and began apologizing. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to fall asleep. I haven't got much sleep at night because of the-"

Sam covers Deans mouth with his hand and then looks around noting the three other people in the laundromat and the cameras before lowering his voice so only his brother could hear. "Be careful what you say. Why didn't you tell us you were having trouble sleeping? Jessica and I could have helped." He then speaks in a normal tone of voice. "All you had to do was ask."

Once Sam lets go of him, he speaks in the same tone of voice only lower. "Can you help so she's not kicking so much when we get back home? Maybe stay with me until I'm able to fall asleep?"

Sam shakes his head yes. "Would you like Jessicas help too? She could be your pillow."

"No, just your help. I want you to bond with her. You've been avoiding having any contact with her for weeks while Jessica has."

"I have not been avoiding her!"

"Yes, you do! And I want to know why?!"

"Well for one you're a guy. Two is that you're my brother," he lowers his voice for the next statement. "Last but not least she's still in you."

"What's the real reason?" Dean asked as if reading Sam's thoughts.

Sam was silent for a while as if thinking but then spoke up lying through his teeth. "She's not mine okay! Is that what you want to hear?"

Deans face fell then became devoid of any emotion. "In a way she is yours. I thought we settled this already. Guess I was wrong." He folded the last piece of laundry and got up and went to leave but Sam stopped him by catching his arm as he walked past.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean that."

He really didn't mean to say that which was the honest truth. That baby was his regardless of who it came from. Jessica sat watching them ready to step in if it came to a boiling point like it had again five weeks ago. They avoided each other like the plague for a week until Sam apologized to his brother. The fights were constant and were about anything and everything including the baby like now, and she couldn't figure out why Dean wasn't stressed.

"Yeah, well it sure as hell sounded like it," Dean said, putting on a tough exterior appearance but failing miserably. "Let's just go." He turns to Jessica and motions for her to come on. "Baby girl come on."

"Dean, I really didn't mean it."

Dean nods and doesn't say much else except: "Yeah, sure you didn't." He didn't say anything else as he went to the driver's side and got in adjusting the seat. He had a hard time doing it, so he gave the keys to Jessica before she buckled her seatbelt.

"Really Dean? You're not letting me drive because you're mad at me. What is your problem?"

"Sam, stop now! He's your brother. Your only brother. Get over yourself and apologize!"

"Well, he's a poor excuse for one-"

He heard Dean gasp and make a horrifying sound cutting him off, and Sam felt bad for what just poured out his mouth, but he couldn't take it back. He saw him put his forehead against the wheel and cry openly out of the corner of his eye. He then turned toward him and rubbed soothing circles on his neck and back, but Dean flinched away and began to shout.

"Don't touch me! I'll pack my bags when we get back home and raise her on my own since I promised you I wouldn't give her up for adoption. I'm sorry I don't meet your standards as a brother."

He then got out and winced and waited for the hard kicks to stop before proceeding to the backseat. Jessica got out and hugged him whispering soothing words to him and told him she's sorry for the way Sam has been acting. He returned the hug and cried into her shoulder. She whispered a litany of "it's okay" and "I'm here" as she ran her fingers through his hair before letting go after a while.

After they all settled in their respective seats Sam turned to the backseat where Dean was laying down on wiping his tears away.

"I'm sorry Dean."

"Uh huh well I'm not forgiving you this time. This is the last time you hurt me."

Jessica looked in the mirror at Dean in the backseat and then Sam in the passenger seat as she spoke up. "Dean you are staying, and I want these fights to stop Sam. Here's what's going to happen when we get back home; Sam you are going to stay away from him until you get your act together and I'll help him with getting to sleep. Do you guys hear me?"

"Yes mom," said Sam sarcastically, as his leg began to bounce.

"Okay baby girl," said Dean with a note of sadness as he folded his arms over his chest and settled down wanting to go to sleep but knowing he wouldn't be able to.
