Vergil

Backstory:

Vergil was one of the twin sons born from the demon Sparda and human Eva. After the demon invasion, when a younger Vergil managed to survive alone and mistakenly believed that his mother abandoned him during the crisis, he started to deny his humanity and embraced his demonic legacy, in contrast to his younger brother's embrace of the human side and initial rejection against the devil. Stoic and reserved, Vergil displays a willingness to do anything in his quest to obtain the power of his father, Sparda.

It is revealed years after his last encounter with Dante as Nelo Angelo, Vergil had survived and is now free from Mundus control, but is significantly weakened as a result. As the hooded figure who took the Yamato, ripping the Devil Bringer from his son Nero in the process, Vergil is the final antagonist of the game after both the newcomer V and Urizen merge back together as himself, both revealed to be his human and demon halves.

Powers and Abilities:

Demon Physiology (Mid Tier & Sparda Heritage),

Master Swordsman & Martial Artist, Psychometry (Scales to Dante, mastered Beowulf when he killed him and got his powers in a Devil Arm form and masterfully handled Yamato when demons were sent by Mundus to kill him and his family when he was only 8 years old),

Force/Mirage Edge:

Wind Manipulation (With Force Edge, can create a whirlwind vacuum when the sword is thrown),

Afterimage Creation, Forcefield Creation & Light Manipulation (With Beowulf),

Summoning & Homing Attack (Can summon spectral swords that can attack his opponents from all directions),

Analytical Prediction (Can match Dante in a fight, who is capable of noticing patterns in his opponent's style and adapt to fight accordingly),

Yamato:

Space-Time Manipulation, Durability Negation, Weapon Creation & Control, Forcefield Creation, Portal Creation, Resurrection, Summoning, Fissionism, Memory Manipulation, Power Nullification & Conceptual Manipulation (Type 2; The Yamato's blade is sharp enough to cut through dimensions, can create magical swords, is capable of creating a shield to protect the user, can create portals, was capable of resurrecting Nero and the sword also came to help Vergil when he was a kid, Sanctus used it to nullify Nero's power and his resistance to absorption, allowing the Saviour to absorb him, can separate man from demon and power from heart, can change people's memories and give them a physical form and was used to separate Nero from the Savior when the sword is thrown on the chest of the Savior, since Nero's body and soul was absorbed and melted together with the others bodies and souls inside the Savior and becoming one single existence with him when he fought against Sanctus and Savior in the Advent Chamber),

Sealing (Yamato can cut through and create portals between the Human and Demon World, said dimensions had their connection sealed by Sparda in the past, and since Sparda sealed the dimensions in the past, demons are no longer able to travel between the Demon World and the Human World. Vergil and Dante eventually sealed the Qliphoth roots' portal with the Yamato to stop them from tearing Red Grave City apart and from merging the Demon World with the Human World),

Resistance to:

Sealing (The Yamato can easily bypass this seal even in the form of broken shards, as seen when both Dante and Balrog used said shards to escape the Demon World back into the Human World),

All previous abilities as before but at a much higher level, except for Yamato and Force Edge plus:

Fire Manipulation (Can attack with a blue fire and enhance his physicals attacks with it),

All previous abilities on a much higher level plus:

High Tier Demon Physiology,

Vibration Manipulation (Scales to his Urizen self, who can create powerful shock waves enough to shake the Earth),

Explosion Manipulation, Time Manipulation, Homing Attack, Fire Manipulation, Homing Attack, Plant Manipulation, Corruption, Blood Manipulation & Transmutation (Retains the powers from his half demon side Urizen),

Power Absorption (With the Devil Bringer, Vergil should be capable of absorbing demonic/magic powers to enhance himself and likely should be able to use others powers that are reliant on it),

Improved Empathic Manipulation & Fear Manipulation (When V senses Urizen's powers, he instantly becomes unable to even move),

Bodily Weaponry (Conventional & Unconventional; Via his arm blades, his wings and tail),

Flight,

Duplication (Can manifest a duplicate version of himself via Doppelganger) in Sin Devil Trigger,

Enhanced Resistance to:

Regeneration Negation (Can still heal from Dante's attacks, despite him being capable of overcoming his opponent's regeneration mid battle, like when he couldn't inflict permanent damage to Chen but eventually was able to, killing him in the process)

Weaknesses: Dangerously overconfident. Anything related to Dante need not apply.

However, as the series progresses, Jin becomes progressively more and more resistant to these effects of the Yukianesa.

Song: Sins of the Devil

Weeks? Months? Years? Vergil could no longer keep track of time spent here in the hellish realm of the underworld. The weary swordsman pondered, his thoughts wandering to the separation from his twin brother, Dante, as they had braved the descent to destroy the Qliphoth and sever the connection between the demonic realm and the mortal world.

Vergil felt a sudden chill as snowflakes began to drift gently down, a peculiar weather phenomenon for this realm. He paused momentarily, observing the falling snow with a mix of curiosity and wonder. Turning his gaze, he noticed an approaching figure, dressed in a similar manner, blue and black ensemble reminiscent of his own attire. The son of Sparda posed a stoic question,

"Who are you?"

The man named Jin Kisaragi summoned a towering pillar of ice, extracting a sheathed katana from its frosty heart. The formidable weapon, his Mucro Algesco: Yukianesa – one of the fabled Nox Nyctores – gleamed ominously in his hand. Jin took a fighting stance, his gaze locked on Vergil as he declared with intensity,

"I am Jin Kisaragi. I have learned of your destructive legacy, loathsome demon. Thus, I shall confront you, MY ENEMY!"

Vergil rolled his eyes as he stoically accepted the challenge, his expression betraying no hint of vulnerability, despite this supposed savior's outdated information since he had a chsnge of heart very recently. His grip tightened around the Yamato's hilt, preparing to confront the man before him. With an air of calm determination, he responded,

"Very well."

Jin advanced with purpose, and the duel commenced. Their katana blades met in a deadly dance, each stroke precise and graceful. Both fighters had honed their fighting styles to perfection, displaying a mastery of combat. Vergil observed that while his Yamato was a formidable blade, Jin's weapon – Yukianesa – possessed an intriguing composition. Instead of steel, the sword was crafted entirely out of ice. Yet despite its unconventional material, the weapon held its own against Vergil's trusted Katana. He made a mental note to be wary of it.

Jin swiftly capitalized on an opening, delivering a powerful high kick to Vergil's chest, following it with another kick that knocked Vergil's legs out from under him. As Vergil attempted to get back to his feet, Jin seized the opportunity to deliver a horizontal slash with Yukianesa, drawing blood from Vergil's chest. However, to Jin's surprise, the injury healed almost instantaneously. Frustrated, he blocked a counter-attack from the Yamato, only to be repelled backward.

Vergil staggered back, gasping as he clutched his chest where the wound from Yukianesa had struck. He had endured ice-based attacks before without much complaint, and had even withstood the bitter cold of death before. However, the Yukianesa's icy blade inflicted an intensity of coldness he had never felt before. Though he had healed from the injury, the persisting phantom pain and stinging sensation of its chill shook him deeply. Vergil realized he could not rely solely on his regenerative powers to tank against this weapon.

Vergil's quick reflexes enabled him to evade the blow from Jin's jacket sleeves, anticipating the spin. Following closely, the Hero of Ikaruga attempted a long-reaching slash, which Vergil successfully parried. However, Jin's subsequent attempt to strike with a reverse grip downward slash was once again blocked by Vergil, who had regained his footing.

Jin landed on the ground and with a flick of his hand, he summoned two ice spikes from the ground that pierced through Vergil, catching the Son of Sparda off guard in the unexpected maneuver. As Vergil staggered from the surprise attack, Jin aimed to capitalize with a slashing stroke, only for the half-demon to vanish in a flash of blue light, evading the strike and allowing the blade to slice through the conjured ice instead.

Caught unprepared by Vergil's swift teleportation, Jin found himself exposed in his blind spot, allowing Vergil to strike him repeatedly with the scabbard of his katana. Reacting with remarkable speed, Vergil then gripped the hilt and unleashed a rapid barrage of slashes, propelling the Hero of Ikaruga backward. Vergil sheathed the Yamato with equal haste, the attack concluded in an instant. As Jin attempted to regain his footing after the powerful onslaught, Vergil commanded firmly,

"Don't move."

Before the Hero of Ikaruga could react further, Vergil expertly grasped the hilt of the Yamato tighter, causing the blade to glow with a blue aura. In a split second, the half-demon executed three lightning-fast draw strikes, unleashing a barrage of slashes through space across the battleground. The entire sequence was executed with such swiftness that it appeared as if Vergil hadn't even drawn out his blade.

"Jackpot."

Despite the numerous gashes on his body, Jin refused to remain down, his resolve undeterred by the stinging cuts. He summoned an enormous ice wolf's head and hurled it at Vergil, but the Son of Sparda nimbly teleported past the construct, resuming his steady approach.

In a series of swift maneuvers, Vergil teleported around the barrage of ice wolf heads launched at him, inching ever closer to his adversary. Once in range, he attempted a charging rapid slash, but failed to anticipate the ice wall of spikes rising up in time, freezing him solid. Jin took advantage of the situation, delivering several slashes before pushing Vergil back with another ice wolf head, sending him sprawling backward until he hit the ground. The ice encasing him shattered upon impact, freeing Vergil once more.

Vergil's movements were sluggish after being frozen, giving Jin an opportunity to summon an inclined ice tombstone, launching the refrozen Son of Sparda into the air. Utilizing this moment, Jin initiated a juggled combo, repeatedly impeding Vergil's movement. He first halted him with an ice wall, followed by a few slashes and an ice wolf head, and then returned by slamming him with the ice tombstone, creating a continuous cycle of assaults.

Recognizing the urgency to break free from the ongoing juggling and repeat freeze cycle, Vergil unleashed his devil trigger, revealing a more fearsome demonic appearance.

"Let's have some fun."

Though momentarily taken aback, Jin refused to let the transformation intimidate him as he pressed forward with another attack. However, Vergil had traded Yamato for the Beowulf gauntlets and clawed boots, teleporting behind Jin and landing a powerful punch to the back of his head.

"This doesn't even count as a warm up.

As time seemed to slow down for Vergil, he methodically wound up his attacks, executing an intense combination. He began with a devastating straight left punch to Jin's face, swiftly followed by a powerful right uppercut to his chest. Vergil continued with five forceful kicks across Jin's body, culminating in a series of three jumping uppercuts that sent the Hero of Ikaruga soaring upward into the air. The last uppercut delivered the most impact, propelling Jin even higher with tremendous force.

Jin struck the ground with a heavy thud, wincing as the force of Vergil's blows had left him battered and bruised. He found himself recalling the sparring matches with his Beastkin companion, Makoto, yet Vergil's hits felt significantly harsher. Gripping Yukianesa for support, Jin struggled to regain his breath and regather his focus, readying himself for what was to come.

Jin, attuned to the potential danger, swiftly raised his Nox Nyctores blade to block Vergil's incoming strike with Yamato. The two engaged in an intense battle, their blades clashing repeatedly. In response to the escalating confrontation, Jin activated his overdrive, channeling the power of Frost End. Meanwhile, Vergil switched between Yamato and Beowolf, consistently parrying the Yukianesa from the sides rather than directly blocking. With each attack, Vergil teleported behind Jin, evading the icy blade's strikes and constantly positioning himself for a strategic advantage.

Leveraging his intuition, Jin carefully anticipated Vergil's next teleport destination and reacted by stabbing the air where he predicted the half-demon would appear, freezing him once more. With a series of calculated slashes, Jin's fourth strike sent Vergil airborne, then he summoned a massive ice block to entrap him. Without hesitation, Jin tossed his blade into the air with a swift twirl, and with acrobatic prowess, launched himself up to Vergil's position, swiftly executing several slashes. On the final strike, he executed a powerful slam-slash, shattering the ice block and causing the Son of Sparda to crash into the ground.

Recognizing the need to prioritize self-preservation, Vergil teleported a short distance away and knelt down, relinquishing his devil trigger form due to the substantial damage sustained. He could feel his healing abilities working hard to recover, but the intense cold was hindering their effectiveness. To buy himself some time and allow his body heat to normalize, Vergil strategically chose to employ ranged defense tactics for the moment, distancing himself from close, offensive combat engagements.

Vergil focused his aura, channeling his formidable power to summon an array of spectral swords that encircled him. The air shifted, and Vergil's demonic energy took the form of a blue, spectral weapon. The Mirage Edge materialized in his hands, a seamless extension of his willpower manifested as a formidable blade. Swiping his hair back, Vergil taunted,

"Is that all you got?"

Jin launched a flurry of soaring ice strikes from various angles, but Vergil swiftly countered with his own mirage projectiles, which far exceeded the number of incoming ice spikes. These ethereal projectiles moved with astonishing speed, effortlessly penetrating through the icy assault with precision.

With deft agility, Jin jumped over the barrage of oncoming attacks, and in a quick response, invoked a flat ice spike to propel himself forward, readying his Yukianesa. Anticipating a counter from Vergil, the Son of Sparda hurled his Mirage Edge. The deadly weapon spun through the air, forcing Jin to respond by leaping off the ice spike and aiming a downward slash. However, Vergil swiftly teleported out of the way, evading the blow. Upon landing, Jin turned, only to find the Mirage Edge returning and intercepting him in its slashing path, necessitating a quick defense.

As Jin focused on defending himself, he noticed a ring of mirage swords form around him, only to become the target of a simultaneous attack from every direction. Caught off guard by the unexpected onslaught, Jin suffered the brunt of Mirage Edge's assault before the spectral blade returned to Vergil. To add further insult to injury, the Son of Sparda conjured an even greater volume of spectral swords above, raining down upon the Hero of Ikaruga with devastating force, inflicting immense damage.

Jin grimaced as the spectral swords vanished, leaving him wounded. Seeking to capitalize on the opportunity, he attempted to generate a vertical ice wave with his Yukianesa, moving forward at a rapid pace. However, Vergil promptly counterattacked with his own energy wave, effortlessly reducing the ice wall to smithereens. Without skipping a beat, Vergil proceeded to unleash a horizontal wave, targeting Jin, who deftly leaped high to avoid its path.

Jin shaped a bow from ice, readying a potent ice projectile. However, Vergil rapidly stabbed at it in succession, shattering the icy arrow into snowfall. Feeling the return of his full strength, Vergil unleashed his ultimate transformation, SIN Devil Trigger, taking on a truly fearsome appearance that surpassed mere demonic features. Dual-wielding Yamato and Mirage Edge, he conjured a doppelgänger crafted from his aura, signaling an intensified and potentially climactic clash.

The stakes had heightened exponentially. Jin had already been grappling with the formidable challenge of facing a teleporting demonic adversary with considerable strength. But now, the situation had grown even more complex as he found himself confronted by two identical yet empowered opponents simultaneously. The Son of Sparda, now in his powerful SIN Devil Trigger form, was not only stronger and faster, but also employing tactics that made the challenge of facing him even more daunting, all while executing them in harmonious unison.

The clash between blades intensified as Vergil unleashed a double-edged strike that connected with Jin's chest, reeling him in towards the orbiting swords that encircled both him and the doppelgänger. With Jin momentarily immobilized, both demonic halves raised their fists high, subsequently punching the ground with cataclysmic force. Two explosions erupted, propelling the Hero of Ikaruga skyward. Vergil, speaking with an absolute certainty declared,

"You're eliminated."

Time appeared to slow to a standstill as both Vergil and his doppelgänger moved with astonishing speed, a deadly dance signaling the impending end. After a brief pause, they both came to a halt, carefully sheathing their swords, the blades clicking softly into place. In a final, devastating act, countless slashes pierced the air around Jin, trapped within the overwhelming barrage of the ultimate Judgment Cut End.

Vergil, fully convinced of his triumph, dismissed his SIN transformation, only to find his doppelgänger persisting and engaging in a cheeky dance around him. This prompted Vergil's mild annoyance, as the doppelgänger persisted beyond its welcome. In a firm and cold gesture, Vergil slashed decisively through it, effectively ending its showmanship and ensuring his style remained uncompromised.

Vergil, poised to click his Yamato back into its sheath, was caught off guard as a sudden flash freeze enveloped the entire hellish landscape within the localized area. The temperature plummeted rapidly, thanks to Jin stabbing his Nox Nyctores into the ground. The Son of Sparda, realizing the impending danger, desperately attempted to break free from the ice, yet as the seconds ticked away, each moment brought a hundred-degree decrease in temperature. The atmospheric drop was so drastic that Vergil's body struggled to adapt to the extreme and exponential plunge. Jin, his Nox Nyctores sheathed, concluded his attack, reciting,

"I am the cold steel. Freeze eternally from Yukianesa's wrath."

As the attack took effect, Vergil and the entire surroundings shattered into snowflakes, transforming the scene into a powdery tundra. The battle's victor, Jin stood amidst the wintry landscape, but the exhaustion from his injuries and the intense fight soon overcame him, and he succumbed to fatigue, collapsing onto the snow, utterly spent.

Strength: As strong as Jin is at being able to output 80 Yottatons with the Power of Order, he simply can't compare to Vergil's infinite attack potency of universal proportions. But, there's something that gives Jin the advantage the I'll discuss later, so let's put an asterisk there.*

Speed: Both combatants have infinite speed, capable of transversing realms of infinite volume.

Skill: I'd say that Jin has the greater skill. Vergil is a master combatant, but he's rarely challenged into a real fight, and whenever he is, he usually loses, wheras Jin can fight multiple combatants of his skill level relatively back to back, and win.

Experience: Vergil may be a generation older, but he doesn't fight that many people with wide variety, while Jin has.

Powers: Vergil has more quantifiable powers, weielding multiple weapons and can attack from any angle inwards and outwards, but Jin had the greatest weapon that can beat out Vergil's healing factor: the Yukianesa. Not only can it bypass Vergil's physical defenses, its colder than absolute zero manipulation means that it can literally stop the atoms of his body to move, let alone the cells to heal quickly. Given Jin's equal speed and better reactive capability with his Nox Nyctores, landing any fatal hit after a freeze spell will put the Son of Sparda down. And not only would would he be able to do that, but his Power of Order would let him survive an attack of Vergil's strength, since he has survived attacks from characters of similar strength before.
