Raven

Backstory:

Raven, also known as Rachel Roth, is a superhero with dark magic powers. Her strong personal motivations and desire to do good conflict with her heritage, as her father is a powerful demon named Trigon who wants to enslave the planet. Her mother is a human woman named Arella who was living in the mystical realm of Azarath.

At all times, Raven must keep her emotions in check lest she risk unleashing the terrible might within. Despite this, she has still managed to find a second family in her friends who love and accept her regardless of her troubled past. She is a regular member of the Teen Titans, and has also been a member of the Sentinels of Magic.

Powers and Abilities:

Weaknesses: She usually holds back her true power in case her demonic self takes control of her. She cannot heal people from death. Has shown to struggle to heal powerful infections. Struggled to search an area with her empathic powers due to Starfire and Robin's emotions being too strong. Being very close to a crowd with too many conflicting emotions makes it hard for her to concentrate, albeit she has shown to be able to withstand this later on.

Song: Titans of Fantasy

In the desolate realm of the Land of Ruin, chaos and destruction reigned supreme as Kefka Palazzo seized the mantle of the 'God of Magic.' His malevolent actions fractured the world, leaving it in disarray. However, humanity endured, clinging to life in small pockets. One such sanctuary was the island of Mobliz, where the children survived under the sacrificial protection of almost all the adults. Terra Branford, a half-esper, stood as the sole guardian and caretaker of these vulnerable orphans.

The children, playing joyously outdoors, abruptly ceased their activities upon spotting the sudden opening of a dark portal. The unexpected sight alarmed them, prompting a collective rush towards Terra. Stepping through the portal, a woman emerged, draped in a blue cloak over her black outfit. It was none other than Raven, a member of the formidable Teen Titans, who had foresee a powerful, magical threat in this dimension that posed a potential danger to her home and comrades.

Raven, attuned to the danger, allowed her soul-self, the raven-shaped construct of darkness, to surface, shielding against the incoming fireball. Once the threat was neutralized, the soul-self retracted, revealing Raven's stern gaze fixed on Terra, the half-esper. Her empathic senses picked up Terra's stoic but displeased demeanor as she issued a warning, commanding,

"That was a warning. Leave us alone."

Raven remained outwardly stoic, her emotions firmly under control as she addressed Terra,

"There's a threat that I sensed here. I came to put it to an end."

Each word was concise and calculated, not betraying a hint of feeling. She locked eyes with the half-esper, awaiting a response. Terra, seemingly interpreting Raven's words strictly in regards to this immediate locale rather than the overarching danger looming over the larger world, called upon her twin swords, Flametongue and Lightbringer. With Lightbringer aimed directly at the Teen Titan, Terra made her stance clear, declaring,

"I won't allow you to take away the precious things I still cherish in this world."

Before Raven could utter another word to alleviate the mounting tension, Terra swiftly launched a flurry of sword strikes. Although Raven agilely evaded the swings, the half-esper's surprise proved costly when Lightbringer's shining conjured a blinding Holy blast. Taken aback, Raven was unprepared for the divine onslaught that forcefully repelled her, causing her inherent demonic nature considerable pain. With a calm but resolute tone, Raven firmly declared,

"You've made a grave error."

As the words left her lips, a horde of black tendrils burst forth from the abyss of her cloak, encircling Terra in a swarming onslaught. Despite her valiant efforts, the half-esper's attempts to fend them off with slashes, fire, and further Holy attacks proved ineffective against their sheer numbers. Before long, she was ensnared from all sides, engulfed in the writhing mass of tendrils.

Caught off guard and disarmed, Terra helplessly watched as her trusted weapons, Flametongue and Lightbringer, shattered under the oppressive force of the tendrils. Before she could react, Raven's soul-self surged forth in the form of a dark raven construct, its shrill screech preceding its collision with Terra. The half-esper was brutally impacted, crashing into a stand of trees, which collapsed upon her in a flurry of splinters. The soul-self returned to its master's being, and Raven silently hoped the assault had been sufficient to end the confrontation.

The children of Mobliz, filled with worry and hope, called out to Terra, imploring her to make a strong come-back. After a pause, the trees covering Terra were violently dispersed, revealing her transformed into a full Esper form, her hair flowing freely and her body radiant with a purplish-pink glow. Floating defiantly towards Raven, she moved past the children who cheered her on, steadfast in her refusal to surrender. Terra defiantly declared,

"No, it is you who has made a grave error. Firaga!"

In a decisive show of magic prowess, she hurled a powerful Firaga spell, summoning dual explosions of roaring flame towards Raven. However, the Teen Titan responded swiftly, quickly enveloping herself in a protective shield of dark magic, effectively parrying the fiery assault. Raven commanded,

"Darkness take you!"

As the words left her lips, the Teen Titan allowed her innate darkness to surge forth, blanketing the surroundings in an enveloping abyss. Terra was left disoriented, unable to discern her whereabouts as she flailed within the oppressive blackness. She could already sense the darkness exerting its influence, attempting to stifle her power.

"What's the matter? Afraid of the dark?"

Terra channeled her magic with unyielding resolve, and shouted,

"You will not defeat me, demon!"

With a surge of will, she broke free from the confines of the dark abyss, reuniting with the tangible world. Her gaze locked onto Raven, and she unleashed Break, causing the Teen Titan's body to begin the petrifying process. Raven, sensing her impending downfall, swiftly duplicated herself, allowing her duplicate to bear the brunt of the spell and become a shattered statue upon impact with the ground. Raven's voice rang out with a grim warning,

"So that's how it's going to be. Experience the agony of your deepest fears."

With a sudden and chilling shift as she disappeared, daylight quickly gave way to night, shrouding the surroundings in a veil of darkness. Terra looked around, her heart gripped with dread as she realized that the precious children she was sworn to protect had vanished. Terra's voice echoed through the darkened village, filled with desperation and maternal anguish as she bellowed,

"Where am I? Where are the children?! Answer me!"

She frantically searched the village, her eyes scanning every corner, every shadow, looking for the missing children. However, as she reached the outskirts of the village, her heart was filled with a profound mix of dread and denial.

Terra's heart froze, as she stared in horror at the lifeless bodies of the Returners, the group of misfits who had rescued her from her brainwashed existence in the empire. But it was not just one Terra who stared numbly at the tragic sight; there was a second Terra, her eyes void of all life, trapped in the same mind control as when she was under Kefka's spell. The sadistic clown himself stood amidst the carnage, his signature laugh echoing through the air as he commended her for succeeding in destroying everything precious to her. In the distance, the once-peaceful town of Mobliz burned and smoldered with cries of children dying for the momma that turned against them.

"No. No! This isn't me! NOOOOO!"

Terra's anguished scream pierced the air as she writhed in mental torment. Gripping her head tightly, she reached deep within, invoking the power of her father's magicite to release a chaotic wave of energy that tore through the deceptive illusion. Tears streaming down her face, she focused her attention on Raven, who had concealed her presence, and fixed her with a gaze filled with a searing mixture of hatred and deep hurt.

"Graviga!"

Immediately, Raven felt a sudden and powerful force pull her ruthlessly to the ground, forcing her to her knees as an intense gravitational acceleration washed over her entire being. She could feel her strength being depleted as the gravitational force magnified her weight exponentially. Breathing became labored, her muscles straining against the crushing pressure.

With burning determination, Terra flew towards the helpless Raven at top speed, but instead of stopping at Mobliz, she utilized Teleport to transport them both far away. Clearly, Terra intended something substantial, and she unleashed Meltdown, creating back-to-back nuclear-level explosions. The force of the detonations was unimaginably powerful, causing a series of cataclysmic eruptions reminiscent of colossal volcanoes exploding point-blank.

Despite deploying her soul-self to defend herself against the devastating attack, Raven's attempts proved fruitless. Even though she had withstood more potent attacks in the past, the overwhelming power of Meltdown tore through her defenses, and the shockwave utterly disintegrated the half-demon's body, leaving not even a trace of ash behind.

Terra, her breath ragged from the intense physical and emotional ordeal, gradually calmed down, believing she had successfully protected both her children in Mobliz and her way of life. However, her relief was abruptly shattered as two golden rings materialized before her, and the revived Raven appeared as a shimmering golden spirit, impervious to the destruction of her corporeal form. Terra's voice quivered with a mix of enraged frustration and raw fury as she exclaimed,

"You again?! I just killed you! Stay dead!"

Speaking with a voice echoing from beyond the confines of death, she calmly stated,

"I transcend death's reach. Even if my flesh perishes, I will continue to fight as long as necessary."

She gathered her magical energy, preparing to release all her available power in a single, momentous onslaught. Terra cried out,

"I won't hold back, then! Ultima!"

With a fierce determination, she unleashed her last resort, channeling all the potent magic at her disposal into a single, cataclysmic explosion. In doing so, she created a field of unparalleled magic force around her, hoping to end the confrontation in one devastating blow. Raven's defiant shout echoed through the air, her voice filled with determination.

"I am not the daughter of a demon. I am the daughter of Azarath! Azarath Metrion Zinthos!!!"

With a burst of magical energy, she released a blinding white light that forcefully clashed against Terra's Ultima, the intense surge of power locked in a tense battle of magic might, each side straining to overpower the other.

Despite Terra's considerable magical prowess, even she could not withstand the unstoppable force of Raven's Azarathian attack. With a cry of anguish, Terra watched helplessly as her Ultima was ruthlessly pushed back. Overwhelmed, she was promptly disintegrated. Sadly, sans any external intervention, there seemed no means for Terra to resurrect herself or recover from the devastating onslaught. This tragic moment marked a significant loss for the planet and its once-bright hope for the future. But Raven, unwilling to let despair have the final word, chose to alter the course of events. With a reversal of Terra's personal time, she miraculously brought the Esper back to life. Terra gasped for air as her eyes fluttered open, quickly inspecting her body to confirm her return to the realm of the living. Her gaze fell upon Raven, and her eyes widened in surprise.

"Why... why did you save me? I killed you."

"You were never the threat I came to halt. My intention was to clarify the identity of my quarry before hostilities were initiated, but your preemptive assault prevented that explanation."

Terra's initial sense of foolishness slowly faded, replaced by a deep feeling of humility. She realized that in her passionate desire to protect the orphaned children of Mobliz, she had acted recklessly and died, even if the death was only temporary. With a voice filled with remorse, she expressed her sincere contrition,

"I'm... I'm sorry. I should have listened to you. I've spent the past year protecting my children from countless enemies, and I unfairly assumed you were like them. Please accept my apology."

As Raven was about to accept Terra's apology, the once clear skies darkened, and Kefka Palazzo made his ominous descent, his diabolical laughter foretelling a wave of nihilistic malevolence. Raven turned her unwavering gaze towards Kefka, her expression stoic and unchanging. With a tone of determination, she spoke,

"I'll accept it later. He is the one I have come for. Despite your impressive powers for a mortal, just as I am, are you willing to fight alongside me to protect this dimension you call home?"

"It is the least that I can do. I'll do whatever I can."

Terra agreed, setting aside their prior animosity. Despite having begun as adversaries, they unified in their resolve to face the common enemy. As they charged towards Kefka, their determination to protect the world from the malevolent God of Magic burned brightly.

Strength: Both women are some of the most powerful magic casters in fiction, but Raven dwarfs Final Fantasy by sheer scope. Whereas Final Fantasy bosses are more focused on mainly the 3rd dimension of our plane since that's where most mortals and summons exist, Raven has previously destroyed near infinite timelines along with dimensions, including higher tier ones where they exist even above Final Fantasy's further reaching dimensions like the Void.

Speed: Terra Branford ranks among characters who can travel and react at speeds of 72.4 quintillion times light speed, but Raven has been shown to break time itself, and exceed infinite speed. You know, I just realized that either Final Fantasy characters outstrip anyone else by exponential margins, or are outstripped by infinite speed, like Tifa vs Bullet, or Noctis vs Dante, and Archie Shadow vs Vincent Valentine. At least Sephiroth vs Xehanort is close. But you know Cloud vs Darth Revan, Yuna vs Lucy Heartfilia and Nami vs Yuffie are and would be stomps in FF favor, at least in speed if not anything else. Final Fantasy certainly is a fandom of "Too fast, but still not fast enough."

Skill: Raven has more skill, as she has the better magical training and time to hone her skill.

Experience: Terra, at least, has a resistance to Raven's bread and butter abilities of soul and mental manipulation, so she can't be instantly defeated like those with no or weaker resistances. That, and lots of other abilities that Raven posseses. However, when it comes to matching those numerous abilities offensively, Terra isn't as lucky, because her naturally learned spells are a much shallower pool, and she can only carry so many items to compensate, most of which Raven can resist and block herself except for the strongest spells, which even then don't have any soul destruction feats.

The winner is Raven.
