Chapter 4: Some Uncertainty/Decision Made
Andros looked out the window to his and Ashley's room. He had his hands behind his back. He had his eye on a house sparrow flying through the sky. She was seated on the front of the bed. She ran her hands over her stomach. She shuddered at the babies moving against them. She sniffled, a tear falling down her cheek. He wiped one from his eye. He glanced toward her as she blinked three times. Their hearts skipped a beat or two.
"How can my grandparents just barge in and disrupt our happy life, Andros?" Ashley whispered and punched the bed in frustration. "How could they after all they said?"
"They may have appeared to be remorseful for what they said, but you are right," Andros responded, frowning a bit. "Everyone had moved on from the past. Then it returned with their sudden appearance."
"I hope Kinwon, Tykwa, Mr. Morgan, and Mrs. Morgan chewed them out," Ashley said, her breathing becoming shudders.
"They did, honey," a female voice said.
Andros and Ashley looked at the doorway. They found Ashton and Anna standing there. Her parents came into the room. They stopped before her as he turned around to face them. She rose to her feet and went to his side. She took her hand into his.
"Are you okay?" Ashton wondered in much concern.
"Yes, I am," Ashley admitted and wiped tears from her eyes. "I am sorry about crying some."
"It's okay," Anna assured. "We are very upset at your grandparents showing up out of the blue ourselves."
"Believe us. Ashley and I are the most upset out of the group," Andros added, flaring his nostrils.
Ashton emitted a sharp exhale. "We can't blame you. I have no doubt it is stressful for you, especially since graduation is just two hours away."
"It is a bit stressful, Dad," Ashley admitted. "Why couldn't they notify us they were coming? It would have saved so much of that stress."
"Maybe they thought you would rather see them in person than talk to them over the phone," Ashton suggested.
"That still did not give them the right to waltz back into our lives and hope things would be back to the way they were," Ashley pointed out seriously.
"No, it does not," Anna agreed. "Anyway, Kinwon, Tykwa, Julian, and Tracy came down hard on your grandparents."
"This is especially true for Tykwa when Dad attempted to blame being old school for the way they acted," Ashton added in a blunt voice.
Andros scoffed irritatingly. "I can't say I am surprised."
"Me neither," Ashley said, shaking her head in disbelief. "Some people think an apology should make everything fine after all the bad someone has said or done."
"It doesn't. At the same time, I appreciate those who apologize in hopes of mending things. The people they wronged may or may not accept it," Anna commented.
Ashley emitted a soft sniffle. "I may accept my grandparents' apology, but the hurt their words reaped upon me will remain for a long time to come."
Ashley released her hold on Andros's hand. She walked out of the room and down the hallway. Her parents and fiancé followed her close behind. They entered the nursery. She approached the second cradle. She had her eye on the gray stuffed parrot sitting in the corner. She picked it up and ran her hand over its beak.
"It will be fun shopping for more clothes and toys as the babies grow," Ashley said as Andros, Ashton, and Anna came to her side. She laid the parrot back in its spot. "They grow up so fast."
"Don't be alarmed if the twins lose weight during first couple of weeks of life," Ashton said, eyeing Andros as he slipped his arm around his daughter's shoulder. "It is rather normal."
"Don't be surprised if the babies sleep for more than twelve hours at a time either. It is typical for newborns," Anna added.
"One baby could be hungry while the other isn't. One could be wet while other is dry," Ashton said with a soft chuckle.
"Jesse told Nicky and Alexander to do something identical because they kept alternating between each other over various things in Full House. Becky joked about him being cranky due to a lack of sleep," Andros replied, moving his eyebrows up and down.
Ashton tilted his head somewhat. "Believe us. You two will likely lose a lot of sleep with the little ones."
"Ashton and I did with Ashley," Anna commented, a warm smile forming on her face. "It was worth it, though. She was always a very healthy baby. Of course, we don't miss changing the smelly diapers."
"In this case, it is twice the smelly diapers," Ashton said, punching Andros in the arm lightly.
Anna nodded in agreement. "Yep. As long as we don't buy expensive brands all the time, we will be able to afford them."
"We will help you two change them from time to time," Ashton added.
"Thank you," Andros said and rubbed his nose.
"Thank you for saying I'm welcome," Ashton said with a smirk.
Andros laughed. "You are welcome for saying—talk about getting confused."
Ashley flicked his nose. "For sure."
Ashley approached the rocking chair and landed her hands on top of it. She moved it back and forth while humming a sweet tune. Andros came up behind her. He wrapped his arms around her.
"It will be so great sitting in this rocking chair and looking out here while holding one of the babies," Ashley whispered, sighing contently.
"It sure will," Andros agreed with a soft sigh. He kissed her temple pressing his cheek against it. "We can watch just about anything from here."
Ashton and Anna walked up to the couple and cleared their throats. They clasped their hands together as Andros and Ashley glanced at them. They tilted their heads slightly.
"There is the matter of your grandparents attending the graduation, Ashley," Anna said, seriousness lining her voice.
"We have left it up to you whether you want them to attend or not," Ashton added softly.
Ashley sighed heavily and looked out the window. She was still angry at her grandparents for appearing suddenly. However, she had to admit she admired them for coming all the way here to see her graduate. She missed them a lot and always had hope they would return to her family's lives. She wished they would have done it sooner. She turned to her parents.
"My grandparents are allowed to attend the graduation on one condition," Ashley said.
"What's that, darling?" Anna wondered.
"They cannot do anything that embarrasses us," Ashley declared in a firm manner.
"I think that is fair," Ashton agreed.
"I do too," Andros added as he held up his hand.
"So do I. Let's go downstairs and tell them," Anna said, waving her hand toward herself. She and the rest of her family went toward the stairs.

Ben, Kayla, and Gerald were still sitting on the living room couch. Ben rubbed his chin, followed by his knee. He eyed his wife picking up the remote off the coffee table and turning the TV on. Jurassic Park was playing. The scene where Rexy grabbed Donald off the toilet and shook him came on. She shuddered in disgust.
"I still remember the audience cheering when Rexy ate Donald off that toilet as we watched this movie in the theater in Boston," Kayla grumbled in much irritation. "It was deafening."
"I believe they were justified in cheering. That butthead was a greedy lawyer. He was ready to shut John down if Jurassic Park didn't meet safety standards. That would have made him filthy rich," Ben explained swiftly.
"Ben, you have been watching Back to the Future too much," Kayla said with a roll of her eyes.
"Who cares?" Gerald said, a soft chuckle coming from him. "It is ironic Biff called people buttheads when he seemed to be one himself."
"It means a stupid person," Ben commented as he put his hands behind his head.
"It also means a stubborn person," Gerald added. "I would say Biff was both stupid and stubborn."
"I believe you are right, Gerald," Kayla said, looking at him.
Gerald rubbed the back of his neck with both hands. He focused on the ceiling, his breathing being soft and steady.
"I can't say I blame Ashton and Anna for leaving it up to Ashley whether we should attend her graduation or not," Gerald admitted, a hint of sadness lining his voice. "We did show up suddenly after we hurt her so badly. We expected her to be angry, but we didn't think she'd be that angry."
"She needs to let us attend," Kayla whispered, her body shaking somewhat. "We may never see her in a graduation ceremony again."
Ben turned to her. "If she doesn't?"
"Then I guess we will have to accept it," Kayla mumbled sadly and shifted her attention to the floor.
"We must accept it," Gerald said in a firm voice. "It is Ashley's decision and no one else's."
Kayla sighed while looking up. "All right."
Approaching footfalls caught the trio's attention. They spotted Andros, Ashley, Ashton, and Anna coming down the stairs. They stood up as the quartet went to them after they reached the bottom. Ashley laid her hand on her stomach. She rubbed it gingerly.
"What is your decision, Ashley?" Gerald wondered.
"Grandpa, all of you may attend the ceremony on one condition," Ashley said as she held up a finger.
"I knew there would be something like that," Kayla grumbled annoyingly.
"Grandma!" Ashley responded sternly. She narrowed her eyes at her grandmother when she attempted to say something. "You are to listen to me right now."
"All right," Kayla said, holding up her hands.
"You are not to do anything that embarrasses us. Is that clear?" Ashley asked.
"Yes, it is," Ben answered, nodding.
"Thank you," Ashley replied and rubbed her stomach at a slow pace.
"You are welcome," Gerald said, saluting her.
"Grandpa salutes once again," Ashley whispered, looking away. "What else is new?"
"I have to say you and Andros look wonderful," Kayla complimented in a warm voice.
"Well, thank you," Andros replied as Ashley shifted her attention to him and wrapped her arm around his.
"I am sure you have done a nursery for the twins," Gerald said, moving his hand from one side to the next.
"Yes, we have," Andros admitted.
"Could we go see it?" Kayla asked hopefully.
"Of course," Ashley said, motioning toward the stairs with her head. "Come on."
Andros and Ashley walked up the stairs. Ben, Kayla, and Gerald followed them close behind. Ashton and Anna brought up the rear. The expectant parents went into the nursery. They went to the cradles as the grandparents entered it. Ben, Kayla, and Gerald stopped in the middle of the room. Their eyes became as wide as saucers. Ashton and Anna came to Gerald's side.
"It is beautiful in here," Ben whispered and gasped delightfully.
"It sure is," Gerald agreed.
"I have one problem with this nursery. The wallpaper should be different," Kayla said.
"Grandma, don't start," Ashley snapped.
Kayla scoffed. "Ashley, I was just—"
"Kayla, the nursery is fine. Nothing needs to be replaced," Ben said while laying a hand on his wife's arm. "It belongs to Andros and Ashley's twins, not anyone else."
"Oh, all right," Kayla whispered in annoyance.
Anna leaned toward Ashton. "It is good your father is trying to keep your mother in line."
"I agree," Ashton responded, turning to her.
"What was that, son?" Kayla wondered curiously.
Ashton eyed her. "It is none of your business, Mom."
"Son, that is rude," Kayla retorted.
"What is rude is you butting in on our conversation. You need to stay out of it," Ashton hissed.
"Dad is right, Grandma," Ashley agreed and emitted a soft huff. "It is time you stop meddling now."
Andros gave Kayla a serious look. "I'd listen to Ashley if I were you."
Kayla held her up her hands in surrender. She walked out of the nursery while mumbling inaudible words. Ben shook his head in disbelief. He let out a heavy sigh.
"I warned her about critiquing anything regarding the babies," Ben said through clenched teeth.
"She chose not to listen, Grandpa," Ashley added and flared her nostrils.
"Forget about that," Ben commented, shaking his head. "Who did this nursery?"
"Dad and Andros did it," Ashley admitted warmly.
"Well, they did a fantastic job," Gerald complimented, smiling lightly. He motioned toward the cradles. "Those cradles are perfect for newborns. They did not have bars and hang on two stands when I was young. They were little beds that sat on curved bottoms. You would move them from side to side."
"They were more likely to flip over," Ben added. "These are more stable."
"That is interesting," Andros said and rubbed his hands together. He started talking about when he and Ashton started doing the nursery.
