The path continued to a small clearing, where a clear view of Toad Town could be seen. Mario looked through the clearing until he saw where Peach's Castle stood.
Well, used to stand.
Instead of the castle, it was only small remains of the foundation left. Olivia tapped Mario's shoulder and motioned to the distance. A large volcano, visible from most areas around the Mushroom Kingdom, was now the home of the streamer-wrapped Peach's Castle.
"Olly really didn't want us getting there, did he?"
Mario nodded. "But we'll find a way. We just have to get rid of those streamers first."
Olivia followed the red streamer's path, flowing in the wind. "It looks like the red streamer goes off that way. Isn't that the same way we're heading?"
"Yeah. So let's-a go then!"
The area was filled with trees, vines, and whispers. There was also a lake, which revived anything dropped into it, as Mario found out when he pulled a vine and a withered flower was dropped into the water. It was tossed out, a normal flower full of life.
"That feels important to remember," Olivia said. "But let's keep going!"
"I hope Luigi's okay," Mario said sadly.
"Luigi? You said he was your brother, right? Then he must be as brave and strong as you!"
"Yeah, he's probably braver than me. I just hope Olly didn't hurt him like he did Peach."
Mario spotted a large golden ball hanging from a tree. The whispers begged him to pull the rope sticking from the bottom of the ball. Mario jumped up, pulling it with the weight of gravity. The rope snapped and he fell over. The whispers laughed at him, making snarky remarks on how idiotic it was for him to fall for that. Mario hammered the tree from spite, and a Magic Circle fell from its leaves.
"Oh! Nice job, Mario!" Olivia flew around the Magic Circle.
Mario still thought the 1,000-Fold Arms felt weird, but he knew he'd get used to them with enough practice. And might as well practice now. He used them to force the ball open, and a shriveled seed fell out. Mario looked at it.
"This was all that effort got me? Must be important in some way." He continued as the whispers booed him for finding the seed.
The next area was covered in trees, making it as if it were night by lack of sun peeking through the branches. A single beam of sun shined on a large stump in the center of the overcast clearing. Mario continued forwards, Olivia still following.
They were back in the clearing.
"Didn't we just leave this spot?" Mario asked.
"Maybe it's an identical one?" Olivia suggested.
They ended in the clearing again.
"Okay...This is getting weird. But we have to try again!"
And again.
Olivia sighed. "Maybe this is were we should stop and think a minute. There's obviously something here we're missing. Let's sit on that huge stump there to think."
Mario hopped onto the stump and sat down, relieved to get off his feet for a minute. Olivia sat next to him, lost in thought.
"What do you think you're doing?!"
Mario jumped to his feet. "Waah!"
Olivia jolted up as well. "I'm so sorry! You probably don't want us Origami Folk in this forest because of what Olly did, right?"
Eyes appeared on three nearby trees. "Origami Folk? I don't know what that is. But that stump there is no other than Ol' Grandsappy, and you've sat right on his head!"
They got off the stump, seeing a face on him as well.
"Aww," Olivia gasped lightly. "Look at his little mustache, he's so cute!"
"Cute?" Said a second tree. "He's not cute! He's the grandest of us all!"
"But then those Toads came and chopped him down!" Yelled the third. "And now he's lost his spunk!"
"Is there any way we can help him?" Olivia asked, feeling bad that she suggested they take a break on him.
"Well," the first said, "you can ask him. I'm not entirely sure how you can un-chop a tree."
Olivia faced the stump. "Excuse me, mister Grandsappy? Could you tell us what to do to help restore you?"
"Restore meh?!" His voice boomed in the silent forest. "Ya can't un-chop a tree, laddie!"
"So...there's no way to help?"
"Nah, there is. It's just near impossible ta get it. Ya need a Soul Seed, but the trees in the forest hid it 'round here somewhere when dem Toads came a-knocking."
"You mean this seed?" Mario asked, holding up the shriveled seed they found.
"EH?! Dat's the Soul Seed! But why's it all dry-looking? I can't use it like that! Here, I'll let ya through to the Spring of Healing, so you can restore it all fancy-like. Come back when you're done."
The small bit of mist within the clearing faded away. Mario pocketed the seed and nodded. Olivia bowed.
"We'll make sure to give you back your unending youth, mister Grandsappy!"
"Call me Grandpappy!"
"I'm not going to do that."
"Oh...okay. Then git going!"
