Olly fell to the castle balcony, exhausted. A loyal Folded Soldier, a Hammer Bro., came to the balcony to retrieve him. He carried the king inside, taking him to the throne room. He placed Olly on the throne.
"Are you feeling okay?" Scissors asked, standing in his usual spot on the right of the throne.
"I think I pushed myself too far." He rested a hand on his head. "I did what needed to be done, of course, but it was far too much for me to handle right now."
"If you ever hope to accomplish anything, you need to learn your limits."
"With this world as nothing but paper, I can do whatever I please. I can feel my powers growing stronger with time, but if I hope to stop Mario..."
"Do not push yourself past your limits!" Scissors said sternly. "You could risk your life, doing such an idiotic act!"
"But Mario's a hero! Not only has he stopped Bowser so many times, but he also stopped ancient demons, magical creatures, and skilled royalty." He sat up. "And if I get stopped so soon, I'll amount to nothing. If I hope to be king, I need to be willing to sacrifice myself for my kingdom. That's what a good king does. A good ruler isn't afraid to face a danger that could destroy their homes, and their dreams. If I want a unified kingdom, I need to be willing to die for the cause."
Scissors sighed. "My king, if you know Mario stopping you is inevitable, why proceed like this?"
"Because force is the only way you can get anything in this broken world. And I need to show those Toads what happens when you disrespect the king of origami."
"Why the streamers?"
"I need to buy time. Time to recover, time to increase my strength to its fullest. I need to stop Mario if this were to work, and I know he'll put up a good fight. I'm looking forward to the day when I get to fight Mario, face-to-face. It also made it a lot easier to move the castle, you know..."
"If you want to stop Mario as soon as possible, why put me in charge of the last streamer? He'll be inexperienced with the Origami Folk ways and mannerisms, so I'll be able to stop him as soon as his journey starts."
"I need you at the green streamer so you can keep King Bowser in check. He's a lot more powerful than Mario, and I don't want him finding a way to unfold. Thankfully, with the streamers in place, it prevents anyone from entering, unless by sky. And Bowser has an army, so immobilizing him and keeping him under your watch is the best solution to prevent him getting loose and attacking my unfinished kingdom."
"You thought through every optimal solution, hm?"
"Not every."
Scissors looked at him. "What do you mean? You prevented both Bowser and Mario from getting to your castle, Peach can't do anything since you folded her, and the rest of the Legion is already in their places. Stapler and your Folded Soldiers are making sure those Toads stay put, and are still making more Folded Soldiers in the process. I see no way for you to lose."
"Mario survived the fall."
"And? You already stated that you needed to stop Mario and-"
"You don't get it. I know I can't stop him. Many have tried and many have failed. There will be no point in folding him now, especially since he thinks it's funny to destroy my Folded Soldiers. I would be able to stop him if he were alone..."
"He has an ally?"
"Yes, and quite the powerful one. Not only does he have the ability to control any Folded Soldier thanks to that hat he has there, but he also saved Olivia. I was hoping they would be separated when I captured Peach's Castle, but they ended in the same woods. I have no intention of intervening now, because it'll seem like I'm desperate. I'll wait. I'll wait until Mario, Olivia, and Mario's living hat think they've won. Then...then I'll do something to get rid of Olivia once and for all. That will secure my victory."
"But my king, that's your sister! You cannot be that heartless to kill her!"
"I wish I could believe the same, but she denied my rule. So she's no longer part of my family. I will rule alone if I have to."
"What if Mario beats the entire Legion?"
"Then so be it. That means he'd be even more of a challenge, and you know how I love challenges."
"You're willing to sacrifice us?"
"I told you, I would even sacrifice myself for my kingdom. If I survive, I'll recover you the same way I gave you life. But if I die, we can be together in the Underwhere..."
"Such a pessimistic attitude, coming from you. Are you sure you're alright with this sacrifice, my sire?"
"I'm sure. But until then, I'll do what I can to stall Mario. I need to finish these cranes, at least, before he can come storming in."
"What do you need the cranes for?"
"That's...a bit personal. If you manage to stop Mario, I'll tell you. If not, you'll never know, I guess." He removed his crown, looking at his faint reflection on the shiny paper. "And if my power continues to increase like this...maybe I might have a chance at stopping Mario. I hope I can convince him to share my vision. Who doesn't want a unified world, broken or not?"
"I see. I'll return to my post at the green streamer's base. I'll see you later, my king."
"I'll come visit. You and the Legion are a lot more entertaining to talk to than my Folded Soldiers. They're sound groggy and hardly have any personality."
"Good luck."
"You too."
