Demon Slaying Shinobi
Chapter 12: The Demon Child
The forest was dense, shadows stretching between the trees as the four shinobi leapt from branch to branch. The only sounds were the rustling leaves and the soft thuds of their feet against the wood. The tension was palpable, each member of the group on high alert as they raced toward their destination.
"Why did Lord Third send us to this remote village?" one of the Chūnin, a younger man with a slight tremor in his voice, asked. He glanced toward the Jōnin leading their squad, his unease evident.
The Jōnin, a seasoned warrior with sharp eyes and a scar running down his cheek, kept his gaze fixed ahead. "The village sent out an SOS," he replied tersely. "They reported being attacked by… something. After that, all communication stopped."
"Something?" the Chūnin pressed, his voice raising slightly. "What kind of something?"
The Jōnin didn't look back, his tone remaining calm but firm. "That's what we're here to find out."
A second Chūnin, a woman with short-cropped hair and a wary expression, joined the conversation. "Do you think it's related to the horned figure that's been reported lately? There've been sightings near the borders."
The Jōnin hesitated for a moment, his silence speaking volumes. Finally, he said, "It's possible. That's why we've been assigned this mission. If it is him, we're to gather intelligence and report back immediately. Engaging is a last resort."
The youngest of the group, a fresh Chūnin, swallowed hard, his hands tightening around his kunai. "What if it is him? What if we're not ready—"
"We are shinobi of Konoha," the Jōnin interrupted sharply, his voice cutting through the Chūnin nervous rambling. "Stay focused. Fear will only get you killed."
As they approached the edge of the forest, the group could see faint wisps of smoke curling into the sky. The Jōnin raised a hand, signaling for them to halt. The squad came to a stop on a high branch, their eyes fixed on the village below.
The scene was eerily quiet. Houses were charred and crumbling, the once-lively streets empty and littered with debris. The faint stench of ash and blood lingered in the air.
The Jōnin's jaw tightened as he surveyed the devastation. "Be on guard," he said, his voice low but commanding. "Whatever did this might still be here."
As the team descended cautiously into the village, the silence grew heavier with each step. The youngest Chūnin's breathing quickened, and the woman placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder.
The figure stepped forward, his Sharingan glowing faintly in the dim light filtering through the smoke. His black cloak fluttered slightly in the breeze, revealing glimpses of armor beneath it. His face remained shadowed, save for the piercing red eyes that marked him unmistakably as an Uchiha.
The Jōnin straightened, his sharp gaze fixed on the newcomer. "An Uchiha?" he repeated, his voice laced with surprise and a hint of wariness. "I thought they were all killed by Uchiha Itachi."
The Uchiha tilted his head slightly, his movements deliberate and calm. "Oh they are," he replied, his tone cool and measured. "I'm here for my own reasons."
The Chūnin exchanged uneasy glances, their tension palpable. The youngest among them, his grip tightening on his kunai, whispered, "Is he… one of ours?"
The woman with short-cropped hair narrowed her eyes, stepping slightly closer to the Jōnin for reassurance. "Something doesn't feel right," she muttered under her breath.
The Jōnin, sensing the unease in his team, raised a hand to signal them to stay back. He addressed the Uchiha directly, his voice firm. "State your name and purpose."
The Uchiha's lips curled into a faint smile, though it lacked any warmth. "My name… isn't important," he said, his Sharingan glinting ominously. "And as for my purpose…"
The blood-red skeletal arm extended with a speed and ferocity that left the shinobi no time to react. It gripped one of the Chūnin, lifting him effortlessly off the ground. The young man struggled, his kunai clattering to the ground as panic overtook him. "Hey, what are you doing?! S-stop!" he cried, his voice shaking with terror.
The Jōnin's eyes widened, and he immediately leapt forward, drawing his blade. "Release him!" he barked, his chakra flaring as he prepared to strike.
The Uchiha tilted his head slightly, his smile never faltering. "Why should I?" he asked, his voice calm and taunting. The skeletal arm tightened its grip, and the trapped Chūnin gasped, his breath coming in short, ragged bursts.
"Let him go!" the woman shouted, forming a series of hand seals. "Water Style: Water Bullet Jutsu!" A concentrated stream of water shot toward the Uchiha with precision, aiming for the skeletal arm.
The Uchiha's Sharingan glinted, predicting the attack with ease. The skeletal form shifted, the arm moving to block the water bullet effortlessly. The stream of water dispersed on impact, barely scratching the surface of the glowing red chakra.
The Jōnin landed between the Uchiha and his team, his blade gleaming with lightning chakra. "This is your last warning," he said, his voice steady despite the tension in the air. "Release him, or I'll make you."
The Uchiha chuckled softly, his voice echoing eerily. "You're brave, I'll give you that. But bravery won't save you." He raised his other hand, the skeletal form around him solidifying further into a partial ribcage and another arm. The sheer pressure of his chakra began to weigh on the shinobi, the oppressive aura making it difficult to breathe.
The youngest Chūnin staggered back, his legs trembling. "W-What is that thing?!" he stammered, clutching his kunai tightly as his eyes darted to the skeletal form surrounding the Uchiha.
"Man it's been so long since I feasted on some Humans with Chakra." The Uchiha said, causing all the Shinobi to look at him in shock. "It's like feasting on a buffet of Marechi blood."
The chilling words sent a wave of shock through the shinobi, freezing them in place. "Marechi blood?" the woman repeated in disbelief, her voice barely above a whisper. She instinctively took a step back, her hands trembling as she formed another series of seals.
The Uchiha's smile widened, his Sharingan spinning with malice. "You don't know, do you? To me, chakra-rich humans are like rare delicacies. Each of you is brimming with power, and I intend to savor every last drop."
The youngest Chūnin let out a shaky breath, panic gripping his chest. "This… this guy isn't normal," he stammered. "What does he mean by 'feasting'? Is he a demon?!"
"Stay focused!" the Jōnin barked, his voice cutting through the chaos. "Demon or not, he's our enemy. We take him down, no matter what."
The Uchiha tilted his head, his skeletal Susanoo shifting ominously. "Take me down? Brave words for someone about to die." The Susanoo's arm moved again, lifting the struggling Chūnin higher into the air. "But let's not let the fun end here. Amaterasu!"
The struggling Chūnin screamed as the unquenchable black fire engulfed the Susanoo's skeletal hand, its flames licking dangerously close to him. The Jōnin's eyes widened in horror. "Move now!" he roared, leaping into action.
"Earth Style: Mud Wall!" the woman shouted, slamming her hands onto the ground. A massive wall of earth shot up between them and the Uchiha, temporarily obscuring his line of sight and buying precious seconds.
The Uchiha chuckled, his voice carrying a mocking edge. "Do you think a wall can stop the flames of the gods?" The black fire spread relentlessly, consuming the edge of the mud wall in moments.
The Jōnin landed beside the burning Chūnin, his lightning-enhanced blade slicing through the skeletal arm of the Susanoo. The captive fell to the ground with a heavy thud, coughing and gasping for air.
"Retreat!" the Jōnin commanded, his tone leaving no room for argument. He grabbed the downed Chūnin and hoisted him over his shoulder. "This is beyond us. We need to warn the village."
"But—" the youngest started to protest, only to be yanked backward by the woman.
"He's right! We can't win this!" she hissed, her voice frantic but steady.
The Susanoo shifted again, its form growing more defined as the Uchiha took a slow, deliberate step forward. The oppressive pressure of his chakra bore down on them like a physical weight. "Running already? But we were just getting started."
The Jōnin turned to face him, his eyes blazing with determination. "Go!" he barked at his team. "I'll hold him off!"
"No!" the woman shouted, grabbing his arm. "You can't—"
"I said GO!" he snapped, pulling free and facing the Uchiha with unyielding resolve.
The younger shinobi hesitated for a split second before nodding, his fear giving way to the discipline drilled into him. "Yes, sir!" he choked out, following the woman as they fled into the forest.
The Jōnin raised his blade, the crackling sound of lightning filling the air. "You're not stepping one foot past me," he growled.
The Uchiha's smile widened, his Sharingan glowing ominously. "Admirable. But futile." He raised his hand, the Susanoo's other arm forming a massive blade of pure chakra. "Let me show you the price of defiance."
Hawk stood over the fallen Jōnin, the lifeless body at his feet a grim testament to the chaos he'd unleashed. The glow of his crimson eyes reflected in the blood-stained earth as Urashiki landed beside him with a flourish, his sly smirk a sharp contrast to the somber scene.
"Overdid it again, didn't you, Sasuke?" Urashiki quipped, his tone dripping with amusement.
Hawk—or Sasuke, as Urashiki so carelessly addressed him—turned his gaze toward his companion, his expression darkening with annoyance. "I told you not to call me that," he growled, his voice sharp and cold.
Urashiki chuckled, unfazed by the venom in Hawk's tone. "Oh, but where's the fun in that? Especially now that you don't bother with the mask anymore. Shouldn't we at least keep some tradition alive?"
Hawk's Sharingan flared briefly, his irritation barely contained. "If you insist on calling me something, then call me Indra."
Urashiki's smirk widened, a playful glint in his Byakugan eyes. "Indra? How dramatic. I suppose that will work for now." He gestured toward the smoldering ruins of the village. "Though I must admit, we are not gonna get much chakra from this village."
Indra turned to face him fully, his voice sharp as a blade. "What is the point of hitting these villages for chakra when our goal is the Kyūbi' chakra? This is a waste of time."
Urashiki waved a hand dismissively, his casual demeanor unfazed by the accusation. "Patience, 'Indra.' These smaller stops are necessary. Every ounce of chakra we collect brings us closer to our goal. Besides, we don't want to charge into a fight with the Kyūbi Jinchūriki unprepared, do we?"
Indra's glare didn't waver. "You're stalling. These petty games do nothing but delay the inevitable."
Urashiki chuckled again, tapping his chin thoughtfully. "Perhaps. Or perhaps I'm ensuring we cover all our bases. You may think strength alone will see us through, but even the great 'Indra' should know that strategy plays a role."
Indra turned away, his black cloak swirling in the wind. "Hurry up and gather what you need," he ordered, his tone brooking no argument.
Urashiki's smirk lingered as he watched Indra walk away. "Oh, this is going to be so much fun," he murmured to himself before turning his gaze back to the ruins. "After all, the hunt is just beginning."
Hiruzen chuckled softly, his gaze drifting toward the faint lights of Ichiraku Ramen. ""Energetic" is one word for it. That boy has a knack for finding mischief, but his heart is in the right place, isn't that right, Naruto?"
Naruto froze, his eyes widening as the Third Hokage spoke his name. His heart raced, and his mind scrambled for an explanation. "I—I think you're mistaken, Hokage-sama," he stammered, trying to mask his shock with an awkward smile.
Hiruzen raised an eyebrow, his warm smile softening into something more knowing. "Oh, please, Naruto. Do you really think I wouldn't recognize you?" His tone was calm, almost fatherly. "You look so much like Minato now, especially with Kushina's face. It's unmistakable. So please, just humor an old man and be honest."
Naruto's breath caught in his throat as the weight of Hiruzen's words settled over him. His fists trembled at his sides, and the resolve to maintain his cover crumbled under the Hokage's familiar, compassionate gaze.
"Jiji…" Naruto whispered, his voice thick with emotion. He hesitated only for a moment before stepping forward and enveloping Hiruzen in a heartfelt hug.
Hiruzen's eyes widened slightly at the unexpected embrace, but he quickly softened, his hands resting gently on Naruto's shoulders. "You've grown," he said quietly, his voice filled with warmth and pride.
Naruto buried his face against the Hokage's shoulder, his voice muffled but filled with raw emotion. "I missed you, Jiji… so much."
Shinobu watched the exchange in silence, her usual calm demeanor softened by the heartfelt moment. She stepped back slightly, giving them space while keeping a watchful eye on their surroundings.
After a long moment, Hiruzen pulled back just enough to look at Naruto, his old eyes twinkling with both curiosity and understanding. "There's much I don't understand," he said, his tone gentle yet probing. "But whatever brought you here, I trust it was for a good reason."
Naruto nodded, wiping at his eyes and offering a small, sheepish grin. "Yeah. It's… complicated. I can't go into any details."
Hiruzen's gaze sharpened slightly, though his demeanor remained composed. "It's about that horned figure, isn't it?" he said, his voice low and steady. "Another visitor from the future, I gather. We've recently been hearing rumors—reports of such a figure for the past two weeks. Though up until now, they've been nothing more than whispers."
Naruto stiffened, his eyes flickering with a mixture of surprise and concern. He hadn't expected Hiruzen to connect the dots so quickly. "I… I can't confirm anything, Jiji," he said carefully, his voice guarded. "But you're not wrong to be cautious."
Hiruzen nodded slowly, his thoughtful expression deepening. "You already know his target then?"
Naruto hesitated, his jaw tightening as he looked away. "Yeah," he admitted softly, his voice barely audible. "I do."
Hiruzen's expression darkened slightly, the weight of his years of experience evident in his furrowed brow. "The Kyūbi," he stated, his tone firm but laced with concern. "If this figure truly comes from the future, they would know the importance of the Kyūbi' chakra—both as a weapon and as a connection to you."
Naruto nodded, his fists clenching at his sides. "It's not just the Kyūbi, Jiji. If he succeeds in altering the timeline, everything changes—everything we've worked for could be undone." His voice carried the weight of his fears, the memories of his battles and sacrifices flashing through his mind.
Hiruzen studied Naruto for a long moment, his old eyes filled with both concern and determination. Then, with a weighty sigh, he placed a reassuring hand on Naruto's shoulder. "Then, Naruto," he began, his voice steady but carrying the gravity of his words, "even though you may no longer be my charge in your time, I have an S-Rank Mission for you."
Naruto straightened slightly, his eyes meeting the Hokage's with a mixture of respect and resolve. "What is it, Jiji?"
Hiruzen's gaze didn't waver. "Protect your younger self at all costs. If this enemy succeeds in altering your past, the consequences could be catastrophic. It's not just about you—it's about the entire future of Konoha."
Naruto swallowed hard, the full weight of the task settling over him. "I understand," he said firmly, his voice filled with quiet determination. "I won't let anything happen to him. To me. To any of this."
Hiruzen nodded, his expression softening just slightly. "I trust you, Naruto. You've grown into a fine young man, and I know you'll carry out this mission with the same unwavering resolve your parents would have."
Naruto's throat tightened at the mention of his parents, but he managed a small smile. "I won't let you down, Jiji."
Shinobu stepped forward, her serene presence adding a sense of calm to the heavy moment. "Hokage-sama," she said gently, "you can trust that I'll assist Naruto-kun in every way I can. We'll do everything in our power to protect the timeline."
Hiruzen gave her a grateful nod. "Thank you. Your wisdom and strength will be a great asset." He turned back to Naruto, his gaze steady. "Remember, Naruto, this mission isn't just about strength—it's about understanding what's truly at stake. You must act with both caution and conviction."
Naruto nodded again, his resolve clear. "I'll protect him, Jiji. I promise."
Hiruzen placed a hand on his staff and took a step back, his expression thoughtful. "Good. Then I leave it in your hands. Be vigilant, and may the will of fire guide you."
With that, the Third Hokage turned and walked away, his figure disappearing into the dimly lit streets of Konoha.
Shinobu watched Naruto for a moment, her lavender eyes filled with concern as she observed his stiff posture and the subtle tension in his shoulders.
"Naruto-kun?" she called softly, her tone careful, as if not to disturb the storm of thoughts she knew was swirling in his head.
Naruto didn't turn to face her, his gaze still fixed on the path where the Third Hokage had disappeared. He took a deep breath, the sound heavy with emotion, before finally speaking. "Let's regroup with the others," he said simply, his voice steady but lacking its usual enthusiasm.
Shinobu's lips pressed into a thin line, but she didn't press further. Instead, she matched his pace as they walked back toward the inn in silence. The streets of Konoha, though quieter now in the evening hours, still carried the warmth and familiarity of home for Naruto. Yet, tonight, that comfort felt distant, overshadowed by the gravity of the task ahead.
When they reached the inn, Naruto hesitated for a moment at the door, his hand hovering over the handle. He glanced at Shinobu, his expression softer now but still tinged with a quiet determination. "Thanks… for being here," he said, his voice low but genuine.
Shinobu offered him a small, reassuring smile. "Always, Naruto-kun," she replied, her tone light but filled with unspoken understanding.
With that, Naruto pushed open the door, stepping into the room where Sasuke, Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke were already waiting. The air inside was tense, the group clearly picking up on the seriousness of the situation.
Sasuke was the first to speak, his dark eyes narrowing as he took in Naruto's expression. "What happened?"
Naruto glanced at the group, his resolve solidifying as he answered. "We've got confirmation," he said. "Hiruzen knows about Urashiki and he's been hearing reports of sightings for the last two weeks. It's only a matter of time before Urashiki makes his move."
Sasuke's jaw tightened, and Tanjiro's brow furrowed in concern. "What do we do now?" Tanjiro asked, his voice steady despite the uncertainty hanging in the air.
Naruto straightened, his blue eyes blazing with determination. "We stick to the plan. Protect my younger self at all costs. If Urashiki is targeting him to get to the Kyūbi, then we need to be ready for anything."
Inosuke grinned, gripping his twin swords eagerly. "Finally! Some action! Let that horned freak show his face, and I'll take him down myself!"
Zenitsu, on the other hand, let out a groan, his face pale. "Why does it always have to be something terrifying? Can't we just have one normal day in this crazy mission?!"
"The only issue is that we don't know how Urashiki will approach or if the Hawk demon will be with him." Sasuke said looking at Naruto as he nodded.
"Yeah that the one thing especially unlike the Fox or Slug demon, he didn't join the battle so we don't even know what he is capable of." Naruto said, crossing his arms in thought.
"Then how do we proceed?" Tanjiro asked.
Naruto sighed as he looked to Sasuke for confirmation which he nodded. "We'll have to split up into two teams."
"Since Urashiki may be a larger threat, Naruto and I will have to focus on him and track him." Sasuke continued gaining everyone's attention. "That means you four will have to prioritize protecting Naruto."
The room fell silent, the gravity of the situation sinking in as Sasuke outlined the plan. Tanjiro nodded, his determined expression showing his readiness to take on the responsibility. "Understood. We'll do whatever it takes to protect Naruto-san."
Zenitsu, however, looked less enthusiastic, his face pale as he clutched at his trembling hands. "W-Wait a second! You're leaving us to handle the protection of young Naruto? What if Urashiki comes after us instead? Or—or that Hawk demon? We'll be toast!"
"Coward!" Inosuke barked, grabbing Zenitsu by the collar and shaking him vigorously. "We've got this! You just stay out of the way, and I'll do all the fighting!"
"Please stop shaking me! I'm not even sure I can breathe anymore!" Zenitsu wailed, flailing his arms dramatically.
Shinobu stepped in, her calm voice cutting through the commotion. "Settle down, both of you. Zenitsu-san, you've faced threats before and come out alive, haven't you? This will be no different. Besides, you won't be alone."
Her words seemed to ease Zenitsu slightly, though he still looked hesitant. "Y-Yeah, I guess. But that doesn't make this any less terrifying."
Sasuke crossed his arms, his gaze unwavering as he addressed the group. "The four of you need to work together. Young Naruto is unpredictable, so keeping him safe won't be easy. He'll likely draw trouble on his own without even realizing it. Stay close to him, and if anything happens, signal us immediately."
Tanjiro nodded again, his resolve clear. "We'll protect him. You can count on us."
Naruto's expression softened as he looked at the group. "Thanks, guys. I know this isn't easy, but it means a lot. Just… make sure the little me doesn't do anything too crazy, okay?"
Shinobu smiled gently. "Don't worry, Naruto-kun. We'll handle things on our end."
Sasuke turned toward Naruto. "We need to start tracking Urashiki immediately. The longer we wait, the more time he has to prepare."
Naruto nodded, his focus sharpening. "Right. Let's move."
As Naruto and Sasuke prepared to leave, Tanjiro stepped forward, his eyes filled with determination. "Good luck. And don't hesitate to call on us if you need help."
Naruto gave him a small, grateful smile. "You too. Keep an eye on him—and yourselves."
With that, Naruto and Sasuke exited the inn, leaving Tanjiro, Shinobu, Inosuke, and Zenitsu to their task. Shinobu watched Naruto leave but couldn't help but feel worried.
"Let's get some sleep," she said, her tone gentle yet firm. "We have a lot of work to do in the morning, and we'll need to be at our best."
Tanjiro nodded, his face set with quiet determination. "She's right. We need to be ready for anything. Protecting Naruto-kun is our top priority."
Inosuke flopped onto one of the futons with his usual lack of care. "Bah! Sleep? I'm ready now! Let that horned freak or bird guy show up, and I'll take 'em down!" He jabbed his twin swords into the air, his enthusiasm palpable.
Zenitsu, already pale from the stress of the conversation, groaned loudly as he slumped against the wall. "How can you be so confident? What if they come after us while we're sleeping? Or what if young Naruto runs off? Or—or—" His voice climbed with every word until Shinobu placed a calming hand on his shoulder.
"Zenitsu-san," she said softly, her voice soothing. "Panicking will only make things harder. Rest now, and you'll have the energy to face whatever comes tomorrow."
Zenitsu blinked at her, his lips quivering slightly, but her words seemed to have a calming effect. "O-Okay," he said reluctantly, sinking onto his futon with a sigh.
Shinobu turned to Tanjiro, who was still standing, his brow furrowed in thought. "You should rest too, Tanjiro-san," she said kindly. "Your resolve is admirable, but even the strongest need sleep."
Tanjiro smiled at her, his respect for her evident. "You're right. Thank you, Shinobu-san." He settled onto his futon, glancing at the others. "Let's all do our best tomorrow."
Shinobu waited until the others were settling in before taking a moment to sit near the window, her gaze drifting to the dark streets outside. The village was quiet, but her mind was far from still. Her concern for Naruto gnawed at the edges of her normally composed demeanor.
She sighed softly, her thoughts a mixture of strategies, concerns, and a faint hope that they could succeed despite the odds. After a moment, she rose and made her way to her own place to rest.
"Tomorrow will bring its challenges," she whispered to herself. "But we'll face them together."
Indra growled under his breath, brushing at his face with irritation as the coarse sand whipped into his eyes. The harsh winds of the desert were relentless, carrying grains that seemed to find every uncovered inch of his skin. He crouched behind a rocky outcropping, the shifting dunes stretching endlessly around him, as he waited for Urashiki to return from the Hidden Sand Village.
The blistering wind of the Land of Wind was testing his patience. He glanced at the horizon, where the faint outline of the Hidden Sand Village's tall walls stood in stark contrast to the golden sands. Indra's crimson eyes glinted with suppressed frustration, the Sharingan spinning faintly as he scanned the area.
"Damn this place," he muttered, his voice a low growl. "How can anyone live in a land like this? I've had enough of this infernal sand and these cursed winds."
Indra's fingers tightened around the hilt of his weapon, the weight of his resolve keeping him steady despite the unyielding conditions. The presence of chakra signatures faintly emanating from the village confirmed that Urashiki was still there, likely gathering intel or causing his own brand of chaos.
"He's taking too long," Indra snarled, his patience wearing thin. "What's he doing in there? Wasting time with his games while I sit here?"
His mind racing through possible scenarios. Urashiki's erratic behavior always made it difficult to predict his next move, but Indra had to remain vigilant. The horned figure's antics had been causing ripple effects across the timeline, and every moment wasted was another step closer to potential disaster.
Indra shifted his position slightly, leaning against the rock. "When he comes back," he muttered darkly, "he'd better have a reason to come here. Otherwise, I'll drag him out of that village myself."
Indra's sharp eyes flicked to the horizon once more, his impatience mounting. The faint shimmer distorted the landscape, but there was no sign of movement. The silence of the desert only heightened his frustration.
He raked a hand through his hair, gritting his teeth as another gust of wind sent a cascade of sand over him. The grains clung to his skin and armor, making every movement feel heavier. He clenched his fists tightly, his nails digging into his palms as he fought to maintain composure.
"Urashiki," he spat, his voice low and venomous. "If you don't show yourself soon, I'll make sure you regret dragging me into this barren wasteland."
The air shifted slightly, carrying with it an unfamiliar chakra signature. Indra's Sharingan flared to life, the spinning tomoe honing in on the disturbance. His muscles tensed as he rose to his feet, his weapon unsheathing with a metallic hiss.
"Finally," he muttered, his lips curling into a cold smirk. "If it's not Urashiki, then whoever it is will wish they'd stayed far away from me."
A shadow flickered against the dunes in the distance, growing larger as it approached. Indra narrowed his eyes, his grip on his weapon firm. As the figure drew closer, the unmistakable outline of Urashiki's horned form came into view, his gait casual and unconcerned.
Urashiki carried a smug grin as he came to a stop a few meters away from Indra, casually brushing sand off his robes. "You look upset, Indra. Don't tell me you're not enjoying the scenery."
Indra's glare darkened, his Sharingan spinning dangerously. "You're late," he growled. "And I'm not in the mood for your games. Did you find anything, or was this another one of your useless detours?"
Urashiki's grin widened, his tone playful but laced with something darker. "Oh, on the contrary I was able to gather some Chakra from the Ichibi's Jinchuriki."
"We are after the Kyūbi Chakra. Are you that paranoid about Uzumaki Naruto and Uchiha Sasuke that you have to gather chakra?" Indra asked glaring his Sharingan flaring.
Urashiki's grin faltered for the briefest moment, his eyes narrowing as he met Indra's glare. "Paranoid?" he scoffed, his tone laced with mock indignation. "Hardly. I call it being prepared. You, of all people, should know that power is the only currency that truly matters." He brushed a speck of sand off his sleeve with exaggerated nonchalance. "Besides, the Ichibi chakra is... unique. It might come in handy when the time comes."
Indra's Sharingan spun more fiercely, his irritation evident as he took a step closer to Urashiki. "We don't have time for your games. Every moment you waste chasing side objectives gives Naruto and Sasuke more time to counter us. The Kyūbi' chakra is the key, and you know it."
Urashiki's grin returned, sly and calculating. "Oh, I know," he said smoothly. "But tell me, Indra—do you really think they won't anticipate our next move? Uzumaki Naruto is nothing if not predictable, but Sasuke? He's always two steps ahead. We need to be prepared for whatever they throw at us."
Indra growled low in his throat, his patience wearing thin. "Don't lecture me about preparation. I've fought and defeated enemies stronger than both of them. We don't need your distractions—we need results."
Urashiki's gaze hardened for a moment, the playful gleam in his eyes replaced by something colder. "Results," he repeated, his voice quieter but sharper. "You'll get your results, Indra. But you might want to remember who you're talking to. I don't take orders from you."
The tension between them crackled like a live wire, the desert winds whipping around them as if mirroring their conflict. Indra tightened his grip on his weapon, his knuckles turning white. "Watch your tone, Urashiki," he warned. "You're walking a fine line."
Urashiki chuckled, the sound low and mocking. "Oh, I'm shaking," he said, spreading his arms in mock surrender. "Relax, Indra. I've got it under control. The Kyūbi is next on our list, and with what I've gathered, we'll have an edge. Trust me."
Indra's glare didn't waver, but he let out a slow breath, his weapon lowering slightly. "For your sake, I hope you're right," he said, his tone icy. "Because if this plan fails because of your arrogance, I'll make sure you regret it."
Urashiki gave a casual shrug, his grin widening once more. "Noted. Now, shall we move? I assume you've been dying to get out of this lovely sandbox."
Indra stood still for a moment, watching Urashiki's retreating form with a mixture of disdain and skepticism as he sighed and moved to follow him as the sandstorm left no trail of the pair's presence in the sand.
As dawn broke, the first rays of sunlight crept through the thin curtains of the inn, casting a warm glow over the room. The light fell across Tanjiro's face, prompting him to groggily open his eyes. His body felt heavy, weighed down by the lingering fatigue of the previous day's events.
He blinked a few times, adjusting to the soft light that now illuminated the room. The faint sound of birds chirping outside was a gentle reminder that a new day had begun, though the tension in the air from their mission remained. Tanjiro sat up slowly, rubbing at his eyes as he glanced around the room.
Inosuke was sprawled out on his futon, his boar mask discarded nearby. His loud, rhythmic snores echoed through the room, a sharp contrast to Zenitsu, who clutched his blanket tightly and muttered something unintelligible in his sleep.
Shinobu was already awake, seated gracefully by the window with her back straight and her hands folded neatly in her lap. She appeared serene, as if the looming dangers didn't faze her in the slightest. When she noticed Tanjiro stirring, she offered a gentle smile.
"Good morning, Tanjiro-kun," she greeted softly, her tone calm yet warm. "Did you rest well?"
Tanjiro stretched his arms, offering her a small, sheepish grin. "Good morning, Shinobu-san. I think so. How long have you been awake?"
"Not long," she replied, glancing out the window at the golden horizon. "The sunrise in this world is especially beautiful."
"Yeah well I am gonna go off watch out for Naruto-san's youngerself." Tanjiro said after he got dressed.
"Please be careful. We are not from Naruto-kun World so we can't assume rules from ours apply here." Shinobu said, reminding Tanjiro.
Tanjiro paused in the middle of adjusting his haori, Shinobu's words grounding him as he processed her reminder. He turned to face her, his expression thoughtful. "You're right, Shinobu-san," he said softly. "I'll keep that in mind. This world is different from ours, and we need to approach things carefully."
Shinobu's serene smile remained as she inclined her head slightly. "Good. I know you'll be cautious, but it never hurts to remind you. This mission is unlike anything we've faced before, and the stakes are high."
Tanjiro nodded firmly, his resolve clear in his eyes. "I understand. I'll stay vigilant."
As he opened the door, Zenitsu stirred, sitting up with a groggy expression. "H-Hey, where are you going, Tanjiro?" he asked, his voice tinged with sleepiness and concern.
Tanjiro offered him a reassuring smile. "I'm going to check on Naruto-san's younger self. Don't worry, Zenitsu. I'll be careful."
Zenitsu's face paled, and he clutched his blanket tightly. "Careful? What if you run into something dangerous? What if—"
"Then I'll handle it," Tanjiro interrupted gently, his confidence soothing Zenitsu's nerves somewhat. "You stay here and rest. We'll need your strength later."
Inosuke stirred next, his loud snore breaking off into a grunt as he sat up abruptly. "What's all the noise about? Are we fighting something?!" His wild eyes darted around the room, searching for a threat.
"No fighting," Tanjiro replied with a light chuckle. "I'm just heading out to keep an eye on Naruto-san's younger self."
Inosuke huffed, crossing his arms. "Tch, boring. You'd better not have all the fun without me."
Shinobu's gentle laughter filled the room as she stood gracefully, her presence calming the others. "Don't worry, Inosuke-san. I'm sure there will be plenty of 'fun' to be had soon enough."
Tanjiro smiled at his companions, appreciating their quirks even in the midst of their mission. "I'll be back soon," he promised, stepping out into the corridor and heading toward his destination.
As he made his way through the quiet streets of Konoha, the early morning light casting a golden hue over the village, Tanjiro couldn't help but admire the beauty of the VIllage until he heard a commotion.
"You damn brat how many times have I told you to get away from here." A Man growled out as Tanjiro approached.
"I was trying to pay for something I accidentally broke, you stupid old man." The Younger Naruto said as he was nursing his bruised cheek.
Tanjiro quickened his pace, his heart tightening at the sight before him. The early morning calm was shattered by the harsh words of an angry shopkeeper and the defiant yet pained voice of the younger Naruto. Tanjiro's keen eyes quickly took in the scene: a burly man towering over a smaller, scrappy boy with bright blond hair and a defiant scowl. The boy's cheek was reddened and slightly swollen, evidence of the altercation.
"Hey!" Tanjiro called out, his voice firm yet calm as he stepped closer. The shopkeeper and Naruto both turned toward him, the former with irritation and the latter with a mix of surprise and guarded defensiveness.
"This isn't your business, stranger," the man snapped, his tone gruff. "This brat's been causing trouble around here for years, and I've had enough of it."
Tanjiro's steady gaze met the man's, unwavering but not hostile. "It sounds like there's been a misunderstanding," he said evenly, glancing down at Naruto. "What happened?"
Naruto bristled, clearly uncomfortable with the attention but also unwilling to back down. "I broke something in his shop by accident," he said, his voice tinged with frustration. "I tried to pay for it, but he wouldn't listen."
"Because I don't want your money, demon brat!" the man growled, his words laced with venom.
Tanjiro's heart sank at the venomous label. He stepped between the man and Naruto, his calm demeanor masking a surge of anger. "That's enough," he said firmly, his voice leaving no room for argument. "He made a mistake and tried to make it right. Treating him this way won't solve anything."
The shopkeeper hesitated, caught off guard by Tanjiro's composed yet resolute presence. After a tense moment, he grumbled something under his breath and retreated into his shop, slamming the door behind him.
"Why is that boy defending that Demon Spawn doesn't he know that he is protecting a demon?" One of the crowd murmured as Naruto looked down in sadness as Tanjiro.
'Why do they treat him as if he is a demon.' Tanjiro thought as he looked at all the hateful looks Naruto was getting as he thought about Nezuko. 'just like how the Hashira treated Nezuko at first.'
Tanjiro clenched his fists subtly, his heart aching as he looked at Naruto, who stood with his head slightly bowed, trying to mask his sadness with a defiant scowl.
'How can they be so blind to his pain?' he thought, his expression softening as he turned his focus back to Naruto. 'He's just a kid.'
"Look here Samurai, we know you're just a guest here but listen well. It's best to steer away from that Demon Child. It'll save you in the long run." Another Villager said as Naruto got up and ran off as Tanjiro watched him in silence.
Tanjiro turned toward the familiar voices calling his name, relief and gratitude washing over him as Zenitsu and Inosuke approached through the thinning crowd. The villagers had begun to scatter, some returning to their morning routines, others casting lingering, wary glances at the trio. The hostile tension that had filled the air only moments ago now ebbed away, leaving behind a quiet discomfort.
Zenitsu rushed forward, his eyes wide with concern. "Tanjiro, are you okay? We heard shouting—" He paused, looking around and noticing the grim expressions and the retreating villagers. "What happened here?"
Inosuke, on the other hand, scanned the scene with restless energy, fingers drumming impatiently on the hilt of his blades. "If there was a fight, why didn't you call me, huh? I can handle a few angry old men!"
Tanjiro managed a small, reassuring smile, though his eyes still drifted down the street where Naruto had run off. "There was no fight, Inosuke. Just… unkind words." He looked at Zenitsu, then at Inosuke, his tone steady. "Naruto-san—his younger self—he was being harassed by some villagers. They were calling him a 'demon' and treating him horribly." Tanjiro's fists tightened at the memory. "He tried to make amends for a mistake, but they wouldn't let him. They refused to see him as anything but a monster."
Zenitsu's face fell, sympathy flickering in his eyes. "That's awful. How could anyone say such things to a kid?" he asked softly, his earlier panic melting into quiet anger.
Inosuke huffed, tossing his head back. "What's wrong with these people? If he's just a kid, why call him a demon? That makes no sense!" His voice carried equal parts confusion and frustration, as if the logic of the situation baffled him.
"Because of what Naruto carries." Hiruzen said, shocking the three as he watched Naruto run off.
"What do you mean?" Tanjiro asked as he looked at Hiruzen.
"So Naruto or rather the Naruto you came with hasn't told you?" Hiruzen asked in surprise, causing Tanjiro to shake his head.
"We know it's about something with a creature called the Nine-tailed Fox and it is a beast, but Naruto-san never explained how it is connected to him." Tanjiro asked as Shinobu came up to the group as Hiruzen looked to her.
"But you know the Link yes?" Hiruzen asked as Shinobu looked downtrodden as she nodded.
"Yes Naruto-kun explained his connection to the Kyūbi after he came to us." Shinobu said as Hiruzen gained a hard look.
Hiruzen's gaze drifted in the direction Naruto had fled, his weathered features etched with both pride and sadness. "I see," he murmured. "Then perhaps it's best if I explain, so you fully understand why the villagers treat him this way."
He turned, giving the four visitors his full attention. His tone, though calm, carried a weight that drew them closer, eager to listen.
"Many years ago," Hiruzen began, folding his hands behind his back, "the Nine-Tailed Fox—a beast of enormous power—attacked this village. Countless lives were lost, and we were pushed to the brink of destruction. In order to save everyone, the Fourth Hokage sealed the beast away... inside his own son."
Tanjiro inhaled sharply, realization dawning on him. "So Naruto-san was..."
"Born carrying the burden of the very creature that nearly destroyed the village," Hiruzen finished quietly. "He became what we call a Jinchūriki—a living vessel for that immense chakra."
Zenitsu's eyes went wide, and he clutched at his sleeves. "That's… that's why they call him a demon? Because he's got this terrifying fox inside him?"
Hiruzen nodded gravely. "Fear can make good people cruel. Many here have never moved past the pain of that night and see Naruto as the beast itself rather than a child who bears it."
Inosuke frowned, his earlier confusion turning to anger. "So they hate him for something he had no choice in? That's stupid." He threw his arms up, bristling with frustration. "He's just a kid!"
Shinobu, who had been standing quietly by the three, finally spoke, her voice soft but resonating with empathy. "To be treated so poorly…"
Hiruzen looked at her with a smile. "I see you truly care for him, Shinobu-san. Though I have to ask where is Naruto?"
"He went out looking for the horned man to see if they could pick up his trail before he makes it to the Village." Tanjiro said, gaining a nod from the old man.
Hiruzen's expression shifted slightly at the mention of the horned man, a crease forming on his brow. "I see," he murmured, stroking his beard in thought. "Then I trust he'll be careful."
Tanjiro nodded, recalling the caution Naruto and Sasuke had shown before departing. "They know the risks, Hokage-sama. But we felt it was best they track him down before he can come here and cause any harm."
Hiruzen's gaze drifted from Tanjiro to Shinobu, Zenitsu, and Inosuke, then back to the direction where younger Naruto had fled. For a brief moment, he appeared weighed down by an unspoken worry. "I must confess," he said quietly, "that the timing of this horned man's arrival is most concerning. If he's truly after the Kyūbi's chakra, then Naruto's well-being is at greater risk than usual."
Shinobu's soft features hardened with resolve. "We won't let anyone exploit Naruto-kun—whether it's the villagers who misunderstand him or an enemy who seeks his power."
Inosuke huffed, fists tightening. "If that horned freak shows up here, I'll show him who the real monster is."
Zenitsu shuddered but managed a timid nod. "Y-Yeah. Even if we're out of our element, we're not going to abandon Naruto-san."
A flicker of gratitude passed over Hiruzen's face. "Your loyalty to him is admirable, especially given how little time you've known him. He needs such allies now more than ever."
Tanjiro exhaled slowly, remembering the boy's wounded look and the hostility he faced. "Naruto-san deserves better than this," he said, voice quiet.
Hiruzen's eyes softened with a mix of sorrow and hope. "He does," the Hokage agreed, "but if the man who accompanied you is indeed Naruto's future self, then I have faith in what lies ahead." With that, Hiruzen turned and walked away, leaving the group in contemplative silence.
Zenitsu shifted uneasily, glancing between his companions. "So, now what?" he asked, uncertainty lacing his voice.
Shinobu sighed gently, her gaze thoughtful. "We can't all watch over Naruto-kun simultaneously. I suggest we split into pairs. Tanjiro-kun and I will take the first watch."
Inosuke crossed his arms, a determined glint in his eyes. "Fine by me. Just make sure you call me when there's a fight."
Zenitsu nodded, albeit hesitantly. "Alright. We'll be ready when it's our turn."
As Naruto and Sasuke jumped through the trees they made it to a Village that seemed like it was attacked.
"Damn it this doesn't look good." Naruto said as he looked at the devastation.
Sasuke looked around his eyes, keeping an eye out for any kind sign of life. "Yeah it's clear a battle was waged here."
Naruto nodded as he looked and saw something, black flames. "Sasuke isn't this flame the result of Amaterasu?"
"Yeah, Naruto, I think that Hawk demon is a Uchiha. Or is it a reflection of myself." Sasuke said, gaining a look from Naruto.
"Like that Slug demon that looked like Sakura-chan…" Naruto said as he clenched his bandaged fist. He then looked around and sighed. "Whatever they are doing, they are not following a straight Path to Village."
"This is the third village we came across now. Urashiki and the Hawk Demon gotta be gone now." Sasuke said in agreement. "We need to get back to the Village."
"Huh why? Shinobu-chan and Tanjiro should have it under control." Naruto said before his eyes widened. "Unless, They're drawing us away."
Sasuke's expression darkened, his Sharingan flickering as he processed Naruto's realization. "Damn it," he muttered. "They never intended to attack Konoha directly—not yet. They're forcing us to chase them while leaving the village vulnerable."
Naruto's hands tightened into fists, frustration bubbling inside him. "They knew we'd follow their trail, and now we're too far away to react if something happens back home."
Sasuke's jaw clenched as he turned on his heel. "We're heading back. Now."
Without another word, the two launched into motion, pushing their speed to the limit as they raced back toward Konoha. The wind howled past them, the urgency of their mission pressing against their chests.
Naruto gritted his teeth, feeling his stomach twist with unease. 'Shinobu, Tanjiro, everyone please be safe until we get there.'
Shinobu and Tanjiro stood at a distance, observing the academy as students poured out, reuniting with their parents. Amidst the joyful commotion, young Naruto sat alone on a swing, his eyes reflecting a deep longing as he watched families embrace.
"It's hard to see him like this," Tanjiro murmured, his heart aching for the boy. "I wish I could go up to him and cheer him up."
Shinobu's gaze remained fixed on Naruto, her expression tinged with sorrow. "I know, but that will most likely affect the timeline. We've already intervened more than we should have."
Tanjiro sighed, understanding the weight of their predicament. "You're right. It's just... seeing him so lonely, it's unbearable."
Shinobu's eyes softened as she continued to watch Naruto. "Prejudice often blinds people to the truth. But with time and understanding, hearts can change."
As they stood in contemplative silence, the sun dipped lower, casting long shadows across the playground. The laughter of other children seemed to accentuate Naruto's isolation, each giggle a reminder of the companionship he was denied.
Unable to bear it any longer, Shinobu took a decisive step forward.
"Eh, Shinobu-san, what are you doing?" Tanjiro asked, startled by the Hashira's actions.
Without turning back, she replied, "Head back to the inn, Tanjiro-kun, and let Zenitsu-san and Inosuke know their watch is starting soon."
Tanjiro hesitated, concern evident in his eyes. "But interacting with him—"
"I understand the risks," Shinobu interrupted gently, her voice firm yet compassionate. "But sometimes, a small act of kindness can ripple through time in ways we can't foresee."
Reluctantly, Tanjiro nodded, trusting in her judgment. "Be careful," he urged before turning to leave.
As Shinobu approached the solitary swing, she couldn't help but reflect on her own childhood, drawing parallels between her past and Naruto's present. 'Naruto-kun, I can only imagine how you felt as a child,' she thought, her heart heavy with empathy.
Naruto glanced up, surprised to see someone approaching him. His eyes widened slightly, curiosity mingling with caution.
"Hello, Naruto-kun," Shinobu greeted warmly, offering a gentle smile.
"H-Hi," Naruto replied, his voice tinged with uncertainty. "You're that lady from the other night, what do you want?"
Shinobu's smile remained gentle as she sat on the swing beside him. "I noticed you were here alone and thought you might like some company."
Naruto's eyes widened in surprise. "You... you want to sit with me?"
"Of course," Shinobu replied, her tone sincere. "Everyone deserves someone to talk to."
Naruto looked down, his fingers fidgeting with the edge of the swing. "People usually avoid me," he mumbled.
"Well, I'm not 'people,'" Shinobu said with a playful wink. "I'm Shinobu. And I think you're a very interesting person, Naruto-kun."
A small smile tugged at Naruto's lips. "Thanks, Shinobu-san."
The Pair sat there for a while before a familiar rumbling came from the young blonds stomach.
Shinobu giggled as she looked at the young blond. "I guess someone is hungry."
Naruto rubbed the back of his head, grinning sheepishly. "Yeah, I guess so."
"Let's get some food," Shinobu suggested, standing up and dusting herself off.
"Ramen?" Naruto asked, his eyes lighting up with hope.
Shinobu gave him a stern look. "You have to eat better, Naruto-kun."
Naruto's shoulders slumped slightly, but he nodded in agreement. "Okay, Shinobu-san."
As they walked through the village, Shinobu glanced at Naruto. "Let's get something and so I can make you something."
"Shinobu-san… No one has ever…" Naruto said slowly with tears in his eyes as Shinobu looked at him in sadness.
'Naruto-kun, I know this is your younger self… but…' Shinobu before she reached out and hugged the poor boy. 'I want to help this version of you, just like you helped me when you save my sister.'
"It's ok Naruto-kun lets go buy some stuff. Alright." Shinobu said as Naruto nodded as the pair continued to forward.
On the top of the wall of the village, a Chunin yawned, stretching his arms lazily as he leaned against the railing. Another Chunin, a bespectacled young man with a more disciplined posture, shot him an annoyed glance.
"Would you cut that out? It's annoying," the bespectacled Chunin muttered, adjusting his glasses as he scanned the horizon.
The yawning Chunin waved him off with a dismissive hand. "Oh, come on, it's been quiet all night. What's the harm in relaxing a little?"
"Relaxing on watch duty?" The bespectacled Chunin frowned. "You really think that's a good idea? We're supposed to be on alert. There's been strange activity near the borders lately."
The other Chunin shrugged. "Yeah, yeah, but nothing's happened. It's just another boring shift. Besides, who'd be dumb enough to attack the village?"
The bespectacled Chunin sighed, shaking his head. "That's exactly the kind of thinking that gets people killed." He turned his gaze back toward the darkened horizon, his sharp eyes flickering with suspicion.
Then, a distant movement caught his attention—a faint silhouette against the moonlit sky. His breath hitched.
"Hey… do you see that?" he asked, his tone suddenly serious.
The yawning Chunin straightened up, rubbing his eyes as he squinted toward the direction his companion was looking. "Huh? What are you—?"
Before he could finish his sentence, a chilling presence washed over them. A gust of wind swept across the wall, carrying with it an unnatural stillness.
Then, in an instant, a dark figure appeared at the village's edge, standing just beyond the gates, its eyes gleaming with an ominous light.
"What is that?" The Chunin began before suddenly the figure appeared in front of the pair staring at them with a glare of the Sharingan.
The bespectacled Chunin's heart pounded. "Sound the alarm…" However suddenly the pair was swiftly killed as Indra smirked.
Indra wiped the blood from his blade, flicking the excess off with an almost bored expression. The bodies of the two Chunin crumpled to the ground, lifeless, their expressions frozen in shock. He sighed, rolling his shoulders as he peered down at the slumbering village below.
"Too easy…" he muttered, glancing toward the streets illuminated by lanterns, the warm glow contrasting sharply with the cold cruelty of his presence.
His crimson eyes narrowed as he turned his attention toward the heart of the village.
Urashiki was still nowhere to be seen, and Indra's patience was wearing thin. "That damned fool is wasting time," he grumbled under his breath. "We should have struck already."
He crouched, resting a hand on the wall's surface, letting his chakra pulse outward in a subtle sensory sweep. His frown deepened as he pinpointed several signatures moving through the village—shinobi on patrol, civilians settling in for the night, and, most importantly, a particular energy that burned brighter than the rest.
The Kyūbis' chakra.
Indra smirked. "Found you."
Without hesitation, he vanished, his body flickering out of sight as he infiltrated the village, weaving through the rooftops like a phantom. He would not wait for Urashiki any longer the target was here, the hunt had to begin.
As Naruto and Shinobu approached his apartment building, Shinobu couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness. The exterior, though not dilapidated, bore signs of neglect—peeling paint and a few cracked windows hinted at the lack of care from both occupants and landlords. She followed Naruto up the narrow staircase, the wooden steps creaking underfoot, until they reached his door.
Upon entering, Shinobu took in the modest space. The apartment consisted of a combined bedroom and kitchen area, with a small adjoining bathroom. The walls, once white, had faded over time, and the furnishings were sparse—a single bed, a small table, and a few mismatched chairs. Despite the clutter of instant ramen cups and scattered clothing, it was evident that Naruto had made attempts to keep the place livable. A worn-out training mat lay rolled up in the corner, hinting at his dedication to his ninja training.
'It's so small…' Shinobu thought, her chest tightening. There was an emptiness to the place, a loneliness that clung to the air. It reminded her too much of her own childhood after her parents had been killed—except, unlike her, Naruto had no one to pick up the pieces.
Naruto, oblivious to her inner turmoil, grinned at her as he set the groceries down. "Alright, Shinobu-chan! I'll show you how I make the best instant ramen in the world!" he declared proudly, puffing out his chest.
Shinobu, despite the heaviness in her heart, let out a small chuckle. "Naruto-kun, I thought we agreed on making a proper meal."
Naruto blinked at her before pouting. "Ramen is a proper meal!"
Shinobu shook her head playfully, rolling up her sleeves. "Not tonight. You need real food, Naruto-kun. Now, show me what we have to work with."
As Naruto moved to show her his tiny kitchen, Shinobu stole another glance around the apartment. Her resolve hardened. 'No child should live like this…' she thought. 'I can't change his past, but maybe, even just for tonight, I can make things a little brighter for him.'
As Naruto rummaged through his cabinets, pulling out what little he had—mostly instant noodles, a half-empty bag of rice, and a few eggs—Shinobu inspected each item with an appraising look. Her brows knitted together slightly. It was no surprise that his diet lacked variety, but seeing it firsthand made it all the more real.
Naruto scratched the back of his head, looking a little embarrassed. "Uh… I usually just add hot water and call it a meal," he admitted with a sheepish grin.
Shinobu hummed in thought, tapping her chin. "Well, that won't do. We'll need to make something balanced." She turned to him with a teasing smile. "Luckily for you, Naruto-kun, I'm quite good at making do with limited ingredients."
Naruto tilted his head. "You know how to cook?"
She let out a small chuckle. "I had to learn. When you grow up taking care of others, you pick up certain skills."
For a brief moment, Naruto's expression flickered with something unreadable. But before Shinobu could question it, he grinned again. "Alright! You're the boss, Shinobu-chan!"
As they worked side by side, Shinobu took the lead, guiding Naruto through the steps. She had him wash the rice while she prepared a simple miso soup, using what little fresh ingredients they had. When she instructed him on cracking an egg without getting shell bits in the bowl, he fumbled, earning a lighthearted giggle from her.
"You're enjoying this way too much," Naruto huffed, glaring at the stubborn eggshell that had fallen into the mixture.
"Well," Shinobu mused with an amused look, "it's nice to see you working hard for something other than ramen."
Naruto rolled his eyes but didn't argue.
As the meal slowly came together, a warmth settled over the apartment. The small space, once filled with an air of solitude, now carried the comforting sounds of chopping vegetables, bubbling broth, and lighthearted chatter.
When they finally sat down to eat, Naruto took a big bite and immediately lit up. "Whoa! This is way better than ramen!" he exclaimed before quickly adding, "But, uh, ramen's still my favorite!"
Shinobu covered her mouth as she laughed. "I'll take that as a win."
Naruto grinned, his usual energy returning in full force. But as Shinobu watched him devour the meal, a deeper satisfaction filled her. He deserved more than a life of solitude and instant noodles. He deserved warmth, kindness, and care.
'Even if it's just for tonight,' she thought, watching the way his face lit up with every bite, 'I'll make sure he feels that he's not alone.'
As Naruto finished his meal with a contented sigh, he leaned back in his chair and looked at Shinobu. "Thanks, Shinobu-chan. That was awesome."
She smiled softly. "You're welcome, Naruto-kun."
As Shinobu gently tucked Naruto into his bed, she couldn't help but smile at how peaceful he looked in his sleep. His usual energetic demeanor was replaced by a serene expression, making him appear even younger than he was.
She chuckled softly to herself, thinking, 'It's almost like I'm taking care of a son I have with Naruto-kun.'
The thought caught her off guard, and she felt a warmth spread across her cheeks. 'Why did I think that?' she wondered, placing a hand over her heart as it fluttered unexpectedly. She shook her head, trying to dismiss the notion.
After ensuring Naruto was comfortably settled, Shinobu quietly moved to the small living area. She began tidying up the remnants of their meal, her mind still lingering on the unexpected thought from earlier. As she washed the dishes, she couldn't help but reflect on the bond that had formed between them in such a short time.
'Perhaps it's because we both know the pain of loss and loneliness,' she mused, recalling her own past and the hardships she had faced. 'But Naruto-kun... he faces it all with such unwavering optimism.'
Shinobu's breath hitched as an icy chill crawled up her spine, sending her senses into high alert. Slowly, she turned, her lavender eyes widening as they met the piercing gaze of the intruder standing in the dimly lit room.
Indra stood there casually, his mask hanging loosely to the side, revealing sharp features and a sinister smirk that sent a wave of unease through her. His crimson Sharingan gleamed ominously in the faint light, locking onto her like a predator toying with its prey.
"Yo, Hashira-chan," he drawled, his tone dripping with mockery. "Can Naruto come out to play…?"
And Scene man what is with me with these cliff hangers well suspense mostly just make wonder what the hell I am actually doing. So Big one out of the way Why I changed The Hawk demons name from Sasuke to Indra, plain and simple I did not want to confuse or come up with some convulted way to differentiate the two charecters plain and simple. And as to why his Sussano is red or crimison versus Saduke's is rather an idea when i rewatched Road to Ninja as they had that mirrior version being darker in color so you can follow who is who. With that being said the Time Travel arc is ending soon and we get to the Entertainment District arc. So See ya later!
