Exploring the Forgotten Sector II Part 4
Time: 4:41 P.M., Location: In the Unknown Regions at the Glinar System, above Glinar Prime
The Celestial Voyager eased out of hyperspace, the surrounding star-field flickering into view around them, and the two habitable planets of the Glinar System came into sight. Chasin Momeoran adjusted their course toward Acree 03, one of the many outposts they had established in recent years. Acree 03 was part of a network of research stations scattered across the rediscovered systems in this mysterious, ancient sector. These outposts were set up to support the growing flow of expeditions, research, and explorations that Chasin's company spearheaded throughout the Unknown Regions.
"Setting a course for Acree 03." Chasin announced, his voice steady with the excitement of this new endeavor. He glanced over to Mugruco, his Twi'lek wife and skilled co-pilot, who adjusted the ship's controls alongside him. "From the readings, it looks like there's some atmospheric interference coming from Glinar Prime's northern sector—likely residual from the magnetic anomalies we mapped last time."
Mugruco nodded thoughtfully, her lekku trailing over her shoulders. "The energy signatures we detected from our last visit indicate the presence of a power source, probably tied to Darth Malgus's original stronghold. His archives might have something—perhaps records, holocrons, even maps detailing the region. Let's hope the interference doesn't disrupt our scanning."
Pulchra, the Zeltron and physical therapist, was checking her daughter Rylona, who seemed just as fascinated by the holographic projection of Glinar Prime rotating in front of them. Rylona's rose-tinted skin glowed as she watched the hologram, while Jarek, Chasin and Mugruco's Bayern Blue-skinned Twi'lek-Human son, stayed close to Mugruco, already displaying his curiosity as he admired the controls.
4:52 P.M. — Landing on Acree 03
As the ship settled on the outpost's landing pad, the ground crew approached with a welcoming wave. Acree 03 was bustling with scientists, historians, and droids, all working tirelessly to catalog and analyze the numerous discoveries scattered across Glinar Prime. From rare flora that held medicinal potential to remnants of Sith architecture, the planet's arid surface concealed countless mysteries beneath its sands.
Sahaz Lor was already out of her seat, securing her equipment. Her excitement was palpable as she eyed the arid landscape through the ship's view-port. "I'm keen to see if we can locate any more specimens of the native wildlife." she remarked. "From the data we gathered last time, it looks like some species here have unique adaptations to the terrain and climate. Rylona and Jarek, are you ready to see some creatures that might even rival a kath hound?"
The children's eyes sparkled with interest, and with a grin, Chasin gathered everyone for a quick briefing before setting out. "Alright, team, we'll split up into groups. Mugruco and I will head to the southern ruins to see if we can locate any more Sith artifacts or writings. Pulchra, you and Rylona can work with the med team in the outpost to check for anything that might enhance the station's medical facilities. Sahaz, I know you're excited to lead Jarek on a wildlife survey, so we'll link up again in four hours at the rally point."
5:15 P.M.
Mugruco and Chasin made their way through the sandy terrain toward the ruins, the remains of a long-forgotten Sith stronghold barely visible on the horizon. The air was filled with an otherworldly silence, the occasional gust of wind kicking up dust from the ground. Mugruco activated her data-pad, scanning the structures around them, her excitement piqued as she found the outline of a forgotten entryway leading underground.
"These ruins…they're older than most of Malgus's other installations." she murmured. "The markings indicate he had his architects inscribe details of the local sector here, as if they were meant for posterity."
Chasin's brows furrowed. "A contingency plan, perhaps? Or maybe he intended to return one day. Let's see if we can access anything inside."
Together, they descended into the darkened corridor. The faint light of their wrist-mounted illuminators flickered against the walls, revealing symbols and engravings chronicling historical records, maps, and war strategies Darth Malgus had intended to preserve. They recorded everything they could, Chasin occasionally pausing to make notes of the data for the research teams.
6:23 P.M.
Meanwhile, on the outskirts of the outpost, Sahaz and Jarek were deep into the arid plains. They had already spotted several unusual creatures—adaptations of familiar species with unique qualities to survive the harsh environment. Jarek's curiosity grew with every discovery, his initial shyness forgotten as Sahaz explained each new species they encountered.
"Look here, Jarek." she whispered, pointing to a small, sleek lizard with sand-colored scales. "This one uses its scales to blend into the landscape. It's called a Glinar Desert Skim."
"Can I keep one, Sahaz?" Jarek asked, eyes wide with hope.
"Maybe not today." Sahaz replied with a smile. "But we can always make a habitat back at the outpost and study it from there."
7:05 P.M. — Back at the Outpost
Pulchra and Rylona had returned to the outpost's medical wing, where the team was evaluating rare plants Pulchra had brought back from a previous expedition. Rylona watched as her mother carefully documented each sample, her young face lit with a curiosity that made Pulchra's heart swell with pride.
"This one." Pulchra explained to her daughter, "Could be used to create a salve to treat burns and blaster wounds. Think of all the people it might help."
Rylona beamed. "Maybe I can help too, like you do, Mama."
Pulchra smiled warmly, taking her daughter's small hand. "Of course you can, my little one. Someday, you'll be helping people in ways you can't even imagine yet."
9:15 P.M.
As the family gathered back at the rally point after a long day, each of them shared their discoveries. The children's excitement was infectious, and even Jarek's jealousy seemed to dissipate in the camaraderie and adventure they all shared. Rylona recounted her time in the medical wing with great detail, while Jarek shyly talked about the Glinar Desert Skim he had seen with Sahaz.
As they boarded the Celestial Voyager to return to the base, Chasin reflected on the day's achievements. Rediscovering this ancient sector wasn't just about artifacts or ancient writings—it was about forging new connections to the galaxy's long-lost history and creating new memories with his family.
Time: 9:30 P.M., Location: Acree 03 Outpost
After a long day of exploration and discovery, Chasin and his family gathered in the central living area of the outpost. The children were nestled close to their parents, tired but excited, each of them recounting their day's adventures in their own way. Sahaz was sitting cross-legged on the floor, going over her notes from the day's wildlife encounters with Jarek at her side, while Pulchra and Rylona shared stories from the medical wing.
"Did you see that plant, Mama?" Rylona asked with wide eyes. "The one that sparkled! I think it looked just like the stars in Daddy's stories."
Pulchra chuckled, brushing a stray wisp of hair from her daughter's face. "That's right, little star. It has minerals in its petals that reflect light, just like the stars do."
Jarek looked at his father, pride in his blue eyes. "Sahaz and I found a desert lizard that could camouflage! It just disappeared into the sand like magic."
"Sounds like a true explorer, Jarek." Chasin said, ruffling his son's head. "Keep this up, and one day you'll be leading expeditions yourself."
Mugruco, glancing at Chasin, gave a slight smile as she spoke. "I think we've earned a good night's sleep. Tomorrow we set off to Glinar II, and it'll be another adventure."
"An adventure," Chasin said, smiling. "And hopefully a profitable one too. The reports from the gas giants in the system have been promising."
January 14, 170 BBY, Time: 9:00 A.M., Location: Acree 03 Outpost
The family gathered in the outpost's dining area, where the scientists and explorers stationed at Acree 03 shared breakfast with them, excitedly exchanging stories about their findings. The aroma of local grains mixed with the outpost's usual fare, a hearty meal designed to fuel the rigorous work and exploration that awaited them.
As they finished eating, Chasin tapped a holographic map of the Glinar system, focusing on the gas giant, Glinar II. "We're heading here today." he said, addressing the table. "There's an outpost just above the giant's atmosphere. Our scientists are conducting deep gas analyses, hoping to find rare gases we can bring to the galactic market. It's only a short hop from here—just about thirty minutes."
Sahaz looked thoughtful as she packed up her surveying gear. "I wonder if we might encounter any unique atmospheric creatures. On some gas giants, there are species capable of floating and feeding on the gases in the upper atmosphere."
Pulchra added, "It would be wonderful to bring back medical applications from Glinar II's atmosphere. There's talk that some of these gases could aid in treatments for neural regeneration."
Jarek tugged on Mugruco's hand. "Mama, can I help you with the readings today? Maybe find something no one else has seen?"
Mugruco smiled down at him. "Of course, Jarek. Keep an eye on the monitors and watch for anything unusual. You'll be my assistant today."
Rylona, meanwhile, whispered to Chasin, "Daddy, will I see the big swirly clouds on Glinar II?"
Chasin laughed, pulling her into his lap. "Oh, you'll see more than that. The gas giants have storms that have been swirling for centuries, and they're bright and colorful. It'll be like a rainbow sky."
9:42 A.M. — En Route to Glinar II
The Celestial Voyager hummed with energy as it left Acree 03's docking bay and turned toward Glinar II. The gas giant loomed in the distance, its swirling layers of colors visible even from this far out. Rylona and Jarek leaned against the viewport, mesmerized by the vast, churning clouds of the planet.
"Look, Rylona." Jarek whispered, "that storm over there is as big as a city!"
"Maybe even a whole country." Mugruco added, joining them at the view-port. "Storms on gas giants can last for thousands of years. They're more like rivers of clouds than any storm you'd see on a rocky planet."
Chasin, sitting at the controls, ran diagnostics on the ship's scanners. "We're nearly at the coordinates. It's going to be tricky landing near the outpost—the gravity and atmospheric pressure on Glinar II can play havoc with ships. Stay sharp, everyone."
10:05 A.M. — Approaching Glinar II Outpost
The Celestial Voyager descended through the layers of clouds, adjusting as the ship's shields absorbed bursts of electrical activity from the giant's storms. They finally spotted the research station, a large ring-shaped structure hovering just above the denser layers of Glinar II's atmosphere.
Chasin initiated the docking procedure, and the family quickly disembarked, greeted by the lead scientist, a Sullustan named Dr. Nyreen.
"Welcome, Chasin and crew." Dr. Nyreen said, gesturing them into the main research hub. "We've made significant progress since our last report. We think we may have found a pocket of Tibanna gas with properties unlike any we've cataloged before."
Pulchra's eyes lit up at the mention of the prized resource. "Tibanna gas? That could be monumental for the galactic market. Imagine what advancements we could see in energy systems!"
The family spread out, each to their tasks. Sahaz took Jarek to help with atmospheric creature studies, while Mugruco and Chasin joined Dr. Nyreen in analyzing the new gas findings.
11:23 A.M.
Jarek held a monitoring device, his face a mixture of awe and excitement as Sahaz pointed out life signs in the gas layers.
"See there?" Sahaz murmured, pointing at the screen. "That reading—it's faint, but it shows a lifeform adapted to the dense gases. Possibly even a creature that thrives off the atmospheric energy."
Jarek's eyes widened. "Like a creature that lives in a storm?"
"Exactly," she said, beaming. "It's a unique ecosystem. You're quite the naturalist, Jarek. I think you'll make an excellent explorer one day."
11:45 A.M.
Elsewhere in the lab, Pulchra and Rylona were examining the latest samples of gases taken from Glinar II's atmosphere.
Rylona leaned in close, carefully noting the changes as Pulchra mixed the gas with other compounds. "This gas can help people, right?"
Pulchra smiled at her daughter's curiosity. "Yes, it can. Gases like this are incredibly powerful. When refined, they could help treat injuries, power machinery, and much more."
Rylona's face brightened. "Then I want to help too!"
12:30 P.M.
Chasin, Mugruco, and Dr. Nyreen completed their analysis of the gas samples. They were thrilled with the findings—the resources on Glinar II were richer and more potent than anticipated. Mugruco turned to Chasin, a satisfied smile on her face.
"We're standing on the edge of something big, Chasin." she said. "This sector, these rediscovered resources—it's like the galaxy left behind treasures, just waiting for someone bold enough to reclaim them."
Chasin nodded, his expression serious. "And that someone is us. Let's ensure we do it with respect for what was left behind."
Later that afternoon, as the family boarded the Celestial Voyager for their next journey, each member felt the weight of their discoveries. The sense of purpose was palpable—this was only the beginning.
As they set course for Glinar III, one of the habitable planets in the system, and headed toward the Micheal 5 research and expedition outpost, Chasin felt the excitement of a new chapter beginning. The adventure ahead would be filled with challenges, but also incredible opportunities.
