Sofia the First
Sofia and James More than meets the eye
Chapter 4 The Ring of Avalor
Sofia
I need to act. If James truly feels the same way, now is my chance to let him know.
I'll prepare dinner for us—something special. Maybe this way, I can encourage him to take the first step.
The truth is, I don't know how much longer I can contain these emotions. I love him more than words can express. When I'm with James, the whole world fades away. I feel like I'm the only girl alive. How have I managed to hold this in for so long?
But the time has come—I love James, and if he loves me too, no one will stand in our way. Even if we have to abandon our royal life, I wouldn't hesitate. What matters most is being with him—the person I adore beyond measure.
Sofia, you need to be realistic. You don't even know if he feels the same. And it feels like an eternity since he left for the village. Why hasn't he returned yet?
Even Clover, Mia, and Robin haven't come back yet. What could be holding them all up?
No, if something bad had happened, my friends would have returned by now. Maybe James met someone in the village... But I can't let my thoughts spiral. I need to focus—dinner won't prepare itself.
At least Clover, Mia, and Robin might have discovered the truth about his feelings for me. That gives me hope.
James
I need to hurry back to the castle. But I can't go empty-handed—I need to find a gift for Sofia. Something that can show her how much she means to me.
I haven't thought through everything yet. What if our parents find out about us? For now, secrecy is our best option—it's the only way to protect what we have. If Mom and Dad disapprove, I'll fight for Sofia until my last breath. She means everything to me.
For her, I'd make any sacrifice—even giving up my royal status. Sofia... my pearl, my light, my heart. Life without her would be unbearable. Tonight, I'll tell her how I feel and make her see that she's everything to me.
But what gift should I choose? An amulet is out of the question—she already has the Amulet of Avalor. Maybe a tiara with violet pearls or diamonds? Or perhaps a ring? It has to be violet, her favorite color.
That shop looks promising. I'll find something for her there.
James entered and approached the shopkeeper. "Excuse me, miss. Do you have violet rings or tiaras with violet pearls or diamonds?"
"I believe we do, my prince. May I ask what occasion this is for?" the shopkeeper replied.
"It's for Sofia. She loves violet, and I wanted to buy her something special," James explained.
The shopkeeper smiled warmly. "Ah, Princess Sofia—a truly wonderful and kind young lady. There are few like her in this world. My prince, I must step away, but my mother will assist you."
The shopkeeper left, and soon an elderly woman entered. "Tell me, young man—is it true that you're in love with Princess Sofia?"
James froze, caught off guard. "How do you know?" he stammered nervously.
The old lady chuckled, her eyes twinkling. "I have my ways. And you've come to the right place—I know exactly what she'd love. You see, the Amulet of Avalor wasn't created alone. It was paired with a special ring. This ring grants the powers of air, wind, and water, complementing the amulet's strength."
James's curiosity grew. "How does it work?"
"Be cautious. Both items possess immense, unlimited power. Legends say their energy originates from chaotic emeralds. Handle them with great care," the old lady warned.
James nodded sincerely. "Thank you so much for your help!"
The old woman smiled. "You're welcome, James. If you ever need guidance, you and Sofia can count on me."
James prepared to leave, his heart pounding with anticipation. "I'll remember your advice, my lady. Thank you."
Her final words lingered as James exited. "Your love for Sofia will change everything, young prince. But your path won't be easy."
As James made his way back to the castle, he held onto her words. She's right—nothing worthwhile comes without its challenges. But now I have the perfect gift for Sofia. I just need to get back before it's too late.
It feels like fate is trying to slow me down—as if someone, or something, is standing in my way. But nothing will stop me. I will reach Sofia, my princess, my destiny.
Please, God, let tonight be like last night. Let the storms come again so I can be near her. I need to feel her beside me, to play with her hair, to hold her close. I love her so deeply—how have I kept this inside me for so long? Now that I know she loves me too, I won't hold back anymore.
I hope she's safe at the castle. These are dangerous times, but I'll protect her no matter the cost.
Sofia
It's getting late, and James still hasn't returned. The weather is growing worse... Dinner is ready, but he hasn't arrived. I hope the storm comes again tonight—it was so wonderful to feel him close to me last night. Holding his hand, resting my head on his chest, feeling him beside me...
I hope he loves me. I love him so much. Maybe he feels the same way, or maybe I'm wrong and he's just being a protective brother. But I have to try. The ball plan might be the best idea—or maybe I shouldn't rush things. I'm so uncertain.
Mom always told me, "If a boy likes a kiss, he likes you." But James isn't just a boy—he's my James, my sweet, adorable Jamie. What should I do? God, please help me find clarity.
Suddenly, Sofia heard the gatekeeper shout, "Open the gates—it's Prince James!"
She ran to meet him. "James! What took you so long? I was so worried!" she exclaimed, throwing her arms around him.
"Sorry, Sof. I couldn't fly back in this weather," James replied with a gentle smile.
"At least you're safe. Come inside—it's freezing out here," Sofia said, holding his arm tightly as they entered the castle.
"Whoa, Sof! Why the rush? Is something wrong?" James asked, slightly amused.
"No, nothing's wrong. I just thought you'd want to eat—you must be starving," Sofia said warmly.
"You know me so well, Sof. How do you always do that?" James said, chuckling.
"It's just in my nature, James. And I know you better than anyone," Sofia replied with a grin.''
"So, let's go and prepare dinner. I finally have the chance to learn how to cook, and you can show me," James said enthusiastically.
"That might not be necessary," Sofia replied, her tone playful.
"Why, Sof?" James asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I've prepared a surprise for you," Sofia said with a mischievous smile as they entered the dining room.
James's eyes widened in amazement. "You prepared dinner? I should have expected this. You made chocolate pudding and Aunt Matilda's apple pie!"
"Yes, I thought it was the perfect time to see if I could make it myself," Sofia said, beaming with pride.
"You never cease to surprise me, Sof," James said, shaking his head with a grin.
"Well, James, I know you well. It's easy to surprise you," Sofia teased.
James approached her and pulled out a chair. "Now, come and sit down, my princess," he said gallantly.
"Thank you, James," Sofia said, settling into her seat.
"So, what should I eat first? Can I start with the pudding?" James asked, his playful nature showing.
"James, come on! I've prepared an entire meal," Sofia replied, laughing.
"Alright, Sof, as you say," James said, his eyes twinkling with amusement.
"I'm not forcing you, but you know we should eat the meal first," Sofia added.
"Yes, Miss General, just like last night when you stopped my offensive," James joked, referencing their game.
Sofia rolled her eyes. "Oh, come on, James. It's just a game. You should be a great general and an even greater king. Remember when you were king for a day?"
"How could I forget, Sofia? As royal adviser, you solved everything flawlessly, like always," James said fondly.
James suddenly grew serious and reached into his pocket. "Sofia, I have something for you," he said, pulling out a gift.
As James revealed the ring, an unexpected reaction occurred. The ring and the Amulet of Avalor both began to glow intensely, emitting a powerful violet light and a gentle humming sound. James and Sofia stared in awe, stunned by the magical display.
"What happened, James?" Sofia asked, her voice filled with surprise.
"I bought you a gift, Sof. It's the Ring of Avalor. An old lady told me it's connected to your amulet," James explained as he gently placed the ring on her finger.
"James, there was no need for such a gift. But what about the light and sound?" Sofia asked, intrigued.
"I think it's the first connection between the ring and the amulet. Look—it looks perfect on your finger, Sofia," James said softly, admiring the ring.
Sofia blushed, smiling warmly. "Oh, James, you're so sweet," she said as she kissed his cheek.
"I'm glad you like it," James responded, his voice filled with pride.
"But what's so special about this ring?" Sofia asked, studying it closely.
"The lady told me it has the power to control the sea, wind, and water. Both the ring and the amulet have unlimited power. She said we'll learn more about them in time," James explained.
Sofia nodded thoughtfully. "That makes sense. The amulet grants me powers when I do something good—maybe the ring works the same way."
"It could be. The lady mentioned that if we want to learn more, we should visit her in the village," James added.
"And, James, did you enjoy the dinner?" Sofia asked, her tone eager.
"Yes, Sof. It was a special dinner," James replied sincerely.
"What should we do now?" Sofia asked.
"Shall we go to the study room and spend some time there?" James suggested.
"Alright, James, but let's clean up first. After all, it's our last night alone," Sofia said.
"I'll help you," James offered.
After tidying up, they headed to the study room and began chatting.
"So, Sof, shall we continue our game?" James asked.
"Whatever you want, James," Sofia replied with a smile.
"Let's play, then," James said eagerly.
They played together for hours, their laughter filling the room. Eventually, exhaustion got the better of them, and they fell asleep where they sat.
James's Thoughts:
Where am I? Oh, right—I was playing with Sof, and we both fell asleep.
It's cold in here. I'd better carry Sofia to her room.
James gently picked her up, marveling at how peaceful she looked as she slept. She's so beautiful when she sleeps. I wish I could stay beside her forever. But I'll sleep on the sofa—she deserves her space.
He laid her down carefully, kissed her forehead, and tucked the quilt around her. "Goodnight, Sof. I can't wait to tell you how I feel, but maybe it's better to wait until the grand ball," James whispered. Then, he settled onto the sofa near her bed, his thoughts consumed by her.
Meanwhile, as they both dreamed, Sofia subconsciously reached for James's hand, holding onto it tightly. In the world of their dreams, they were together, but in reality, another chance had slipped away...
