Monday morning, Stephanie sits in the driveway, honking her horn, "Mikey! Come on, you're gonna be late on your first day!" Laney sits in the passenger seat, putting on her lipstick. Mickey grabs the notorious camera, given to him by the Scorpions, and heads out the door while shoving the camera into his backpack.
At Rydell High, Nick walks up to the Tbirds, standing near the lockers.
"And where were you yesterday?" Jared asked.
"Yeah, we almost had the game until noodle legs over there fell short of the goal."
"Felsnic joined the team?" Nick asked.
"Not exactly," William said. "So, where were you?"
"I spent most of my weekend at the diner," Nick blushes.
"Did you get stuck doing dishes again?" Charlie asked.
"No," Nick chuckles. "Let's just say I saved a damsel in distress."
"Oh yeah? I like damsels in distress." William replies.
"Speaking of damsels," Jared hits Williams's arm to get the gang's attention as the pink ladies walk by with their noses in the air.
"Morning ladies," Lyon greets them politely but gets ignored.
"What did I do?" Lyon asked.
"Nothing; pink lady code. You piss one pink off, you piss them all off." William said.
"How long are we gonna be mad at the guys?" Tina asked.
"As long as Jackie says so, why?" Brooke asked in return.
"Because I'm getting tired of holding these books," Tina explains.
"So don't hold them. Hey, you!" Brooke grabs the nearest guy who is willing to cooperate. "Hold these books." She places Tina's books in his hand.
"And these," Jackie said as she piled on more books.
"Mine too," Rachel adds to the pile. They all walk away while their new book mule follows slowly behind them.
Meanwhile, Stephanie drives past the new billboard sign, which no longer has Cha Cha's face but advertises Frenchy's face on Cha Cha's body.
"Learn to cook with Frenchy, the best dancer from St. Bernadette," Stephanie read aloud. "That's odd."
"Tell me about it," Laney replies as she stares at the billboard. "I have so many questions."
Stephanie pulls up to the front of the school. "Do you need me to go inside with you guys?" She asked.
"Nah, I think we got it," Laney told her mom.
Mickey grabs his backpack, and together, he and Laney pause in front of the school, preparing themselves for the abrupt change.
"This is going to be a disaster," Mickey said as he walked towards the entrance, and Laney followed behind him.
At the admin office, they are greeted by Ms. Clarice. "Good morning."
"Good morning," Laney replies. "It's our first day; we're not really sure where we're supposed to be."
"Ok, fill out these papers," Ms. Clarice placed some forms on the countertop.
Mickey goes through his bag, looking for a pen. He places the camera on the counter.
"Oh, that's a nice camera," Ms. Clarice said.
"Thanks," Mickey grabs it quickly and shoves it back in his bag.
"Where did you get that?" Laney asked.
"With a camera like that, you'll do our school yearbook some good; follow me."
Laney watched as Mickey and Ms. Clarice walked away.
As Ms. Clarice walks Mikey through Rydell's halls, he snaps photos of every classroom he passes. William notices his actions and bumps Nick with his shoulder.
"Look at this," he tilts his head towards Mickey.
"You're gonna love Rydell," Ms. Clarice said, clueless of the photos Mickey was snapping behind her back.
The Tbirds surround Mikey as Ms. Clarice continues to walk while babbling on about Rydell.
"Having a photo shoot?" Lyon asked sarcastically.
William snatches the camera from Mickey's hand. "I was just taking a few pictures for the school yearbook, " Mickey explains.
"He's got every empty class in the west wing," William said as he scrolled through the camera.
"The yearbook, huh?" Nick grabs him by his collar and slams him up against the locker.
"Hey!" Laney yells as she struts to defend her brother. "Let him go, you," she pauses at the sight of Nick.
"Nick?!"
"Laney?!"
"So, like, what are you? The school bully?" Laney asked sarcastically.
Nick, let's go of Mickey. "No, it's not like that, I didn't realize."
"Give him back his camera," Laney said firmly to William, who looked over at Nick, who gestured to give it back. William aggressively gives it back to Mickey.
"And you said he was different," Mickey told Laney as they walked away.
Brooke witnessed the whole scene as she had to come back to her locker for a book she had forgotten.
Rizzo walks into Frenchy's cooking class. "Look at you! Guess that billboard paid off," Rizzo jokes as she and Frenchy stand in front of a class totaling eight students.
An announcement comes over the intercom. "Will all students and faculty please report to the auditorium for a brief message? I repeat, please report to the auditorium all students and faculty."
Rizzo panics as she repeats the word, "Auditorium?"
She hurries towards the auditorium; she sees Danny smiling with his students as he's about to walk through the auditorium doors.
"Zuko!" She yells, but he doesn't hear her.
Once he enters the auditorium, his smile quickly drops. He finds himself surrounded by Sandy's memory. Large photographs of their high school years and others to follow hang on the auditorium's walls. Rizzo comes in short of breath. She looks at Danny, who looks back at her before hanging his head.
"Look, it's Mom," Laney points at a picture of Stephanie hanging on the wall.
"Ok, everyone, please take a seat." Mr. Middleton said as he stood center stage.
Nick stares at Laney as he stands in the aisle.
William used his shoulder to slightly bump him. "What's the matter? You wanna talk to her?" He asked.
"No. Nah, nothing is the matter." Nick plays it off as he walks over to his seat.
"Rydell will be hosting a signup rally." Mr. Middleton said.
The students begin clapping and cheering with excitement.
"That's right, there will be games and rides, so please, we encourage you to tell everyone you know to come see how great our school is." Ms. Clarice added.
Charlie leans forward to whisper in Tina's ear. "Tina, want to go to the rally with me?"
"You wish," Tina rudely said.
"There will be more details to come, but for now, please remember to be kind and show your school spirit to everyone you know so they can see what bright young students we have here at Rydell High." Mr. Middleton said. "Ms. Clarice, anything else you'd like to add?"
"Yes, we have two new students who just enrolled today. Let's give them a warm welcome. Please stand up, Laney and Mickey."
The both of them awkwardly stand to be greeted by the students.
"Okay, announcement over. Let's get back to class," Mr. Middleton said.
The Tbirds are the first to rise and begin walking out.
"Wait," Mickey said. "Um, I think I should capture this moment. You know, for the school yearbook." He makes his way to the front. William rolls his eyes and looks over at Jared, who quickly bends over to reveal his bare butt as Mickey snaps the picture.
"Tbirds!" Mr. Middleton yells as the Tbirds run out of the auditorium.
Danny chuckles, "I guess the Tbirds ain't changed a bit." He said to Rizzo.
"Not in the slightest. You alright?" She asked.
Danny looks over at Sandy's memorabilia. "Yeah, I just need a minute," he replies.
Rizzo gives him space, the lights dim, and the music slowly begins to play as Danny stands alone in the auditorium. He grabs a small photo of Sandy from the wall and slowly walks to the center stage as he begins to sing.
"Stranded here without you.
Branded alone,
wish I could bring
my baby back home.
Sandy, life is not
the way we planned it'd be
Your new address
is heaven
And it's far away from me.
A broken heart
is what remains
In this cold reality y y
Oh, say you'll wait
at the pearly gate
for this Tbird to get wings.
Oh, Sandy baby,
your memory
might get me through the day,
But late at night
I sit and cry
It's hard to live this way.
In my dreams, together til we meet again
Say you'll wait, oh sandy
Sandy, my darling
My heart hurts really bad
But despite all the pain
If given the chance
I'd do it all over again.
A broken heart
is what remains
in this cold reality
Oh, say you'll wait
At the pearly gate
For this Tbird to get wings."
He leaves Sandy's picture on a vanity to the right of the stage and hangs his head while walking away.
