RAW is WAR: 28/8/2000
RAW is WAR was live at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina. Just 24 hours after SummerSlam, tensions were running high. At the top of the show, Commissioner Mick Foley called Michael Cole into his office, announcing that coming off the best SummerSlam of all time, he was going to try to book the best RAW of all time. The commish announced a plethora of match-ups, including four title matches - highlighted by The Rock putting his World Wrestling Federation Championship on the line against The Bladewolf!
Backstage, Triple H paced back and forth, awaiting the arrival of his wife, who he apparently hadn't seen in 24 hours.
Chris Jericho hit the ring with the Acolytes to take on Chris Benoit and T&A as the in-ring action started on RAW. But before Benoit could even make it to the ring, Y2J attacked the Wolverine up on the ramp. During the match, Jim Ross announced that Kurt Angle was not expected to be at RAW due to the serious concussion he sustained at SummerSlam. Albert soon picked up Jericho in a gorilla press, but Bradshaw kicked Albert, and Jericho crashed down onto Albert. A Lionsault later, Y2J and the APA picked up the win!
As Triple H awaited his wife in the parking lot, his buddy X-Pac approached him and cracked a joke about Stephanie being in good hands. The Game wasn't in a joking mood though, and walked away from X-Pac.
The Road Dogg soon came out to console Triple H and said he wouldn't crack any jokes.
He said that being a married man, he could understand the Game's plight. He then told Triple H that waiting wouldn't get Stephanie to the building any faster.
Shockingly, Kurt Angle then made his way to the ring! He said that SummerSlam could have been the greatest night of his life, but the concussion given to him by Triple H ruined that. He brought up the fact that the Game hit his wife, and that The Rock then beat Triple H. Angle said that, of what he remembers, he came back to save Stephanie. He then called Triple H a shady character, saying that what he did to Stephanie was deplorable and borderline criminal. He said that Triple H was a lousy Federation Champion and an even lousier husband.
That brought out Triple H, who was as focused as ever. The Game said that Angle didn't get a concussion, he gave him a concussion! Triple H said he wouldn't kick Kurt's ass yet, because there was one thing he wanted to know - Stephanie's whereabouts. The Game said that if Kurt didn't tell him, then SummerSlam would be nothing compared to what happened on RAW.
Kurt said he wasn't a kidnapper, saying he would leave the criminal activity to Triple H. Angle said he didn't remember anything from the previous night, and that he didn't know where Stephanie was. Triple H then called Kurt an ignorant jackass, but then said that he wasn't that dumb. He then demanded to know once again.
Kurt then reminded Triple H that he is an Olympic gold medalist, and he only speaks the truth.
He then said that maybe Stephanie was scared of Triple H, or that she doesn't trust him, or that his punch finally knocked some sense into her, and she was finally seeing him for the bastard he is!
That was it. The Game knocked Angle from the ring, and although still suffering the effects of a concussion, Angle tried to fight back, but officials separated the two.
Backstage, Chyna and Eddie Guerrero watched the action in the ring. Chyna said that she kind of felt bad for Hunter, but Eddie told her instead to focus on her Intercontinental Title match with Val Venis that night. Mamacita was clearly on fire, nailing Val with an array of maneuvers. With Eddie Guerrero distracting the referee, Chyna locked on the "testicular claw" on Val and got the victory.
Michael Cole interviewed Kurt Angle in the locker room, and Kurt said again that he didn't remember anything about last night, not even carrying Stephanie away. Then, suddenly, things started to come back to him! He remembered being in a hotel lobby with Stephanie, and then being in a room - Room 814, which he said was Stephanie's room!
For whatever reason, Steven Richards demanded a match against Rikishi, so next up on RAW, he got it. He said that he did so because he was willing to sacrifice his well-being to fight the good fight. Rikishi was accompanied to the ring by Mandy, Victoria and Too Cool. Twice, Rikishi went for a Stink Face, and twice, the Goodfather and Bull Buchanan barely saved him. Steven wound up running away, leaving Rikishi, Too Cool, and the ladies to dance a special "ho down."
Chyna went into Triple H's locker room and gave him some advice about relationships, telling the Game just to give Stephanie a chance. She said that trust was very important in her relationship with Eddie Guerrero. She and Triple H then hugged, and Eddie walked in and went balistic! "Has everybody lost their mind around here?" asked Hunter as Latino Heat exited.
A battered Edge & Christian headed to the ring next, still the Federation Tag Team Champions. A somber Christian said that they couldn't do their schtick after the TLC Match, and Edge added that they had more respect for the Dudleys and Hardys than either team could imagine. They said that the Dudleys weren't in the building, but they asked the Hardys to come out so they could shake their hands.
The Hardy Boyz' music hit, but instead it was two midgets who came out dressed as Matt and Jeff! Edge & Christian looked on and laughed as the two men got into the ring, complete with two stepping stools!
Christian then said it didn't matter who they were in the ring with - it could have even been the Bushwhackers or Techno Team 2000!
That brought out the Dudley Boyz, or at least Edge & Christian's version of the Dudleys - two more midgets, bringing down a kiddie table! Edge & Christian then re-enacted the TLC Match with the midgets!
Then, Edge & Christian kept their pre-SummerSlam promise - the 37-second pose! The duo did many assorted poses in the ring with the midgets and the title belts! But that brought the real Hardy Boyz to the ring. The North Carolineans kicked the champions' asses, crashing Edge between two ladders. As the Hardys prepared to splash onto Edge from the ladders, Christian barely saved his tag team partner.
An irate Eddie Guerrero was approached by Kurt Angle, who suggested that he challenge Triple H to show how much he cared for Chyna.
The new Hardcore Champion, Steve Blackman, defended his title against Tazz. Prior to the match, Tazz said that there would be three victims in the match - Blackman, Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross! During the match, Tazz attacked Lawler with a trash can lid, and then when Lawler went for Tazz, J.R. attacked Tazz with the lid! Blackman then pinned Tazz to keep his title! Referees and officials had to keep Tazz away from the announce table.
Just Joe tried to tell Triple H something, but the Game said he didn't want to know.
Then, Eddie Guerrero burst into Triple H's locker room, saying that Kurt Angle was right and that he would kick the Game's ass that night!
Women's Champion Lita made her first title defense, taking on Jacqueline. Lita soon nailed Jackie with the Twist of Fate, and following a moonsault, Lita had her first successful title defense! But as Lita walked back to the dressing room, she was met by Edge & Christian. As Lita backtracked, Jackie grabbed her and pulled her into the ring. The Hardys then ran to the ring to attack Edge & Christian, and in the melee, Edge again speared Lita (after injuring her ribs with a spear at SummerSlam).
Backstage, Michael Cole was interviewing the Bladewolf. "Bladewolf, with all the problems between you and your brothers, how are young going to be able to concentrate tonight in your WWF Championship match?"
"I'm not at all worried about The Rock, Michael." Bladewolf said firmly. "What you need to worry about is what Kane will do to our brother, The Undertaker, after he stripped away the one thing that made him who he is. His mask. Something that strikes fear into the hearts of those unfortunate enough to earn his wrath. But I am not concerning myself with my brothers. I am more focused on The Rock. I will say that The Rock and I know each other well enough to know what one will do to the other and this match will be no different. Little Rocky will have to bring out his most electrifying moves if he wants to have any chance of remaining WWF Champion. But he'll be only delaying the inevitable, because in the end, I will reclaim my prize and once again become WWF Champion."
With that, he walked away, leaving a terrified Michael Cole.
As Eddie Guerrero and Chyna walked to the ring, Chyna begged Eddie to back off. Eddie told Chyna to stay backstage during the match.
Still unaware of the whereabouts of his wife, Triple H headed to the ring to take on Eddie Guerrero, as Chyna watched on from the back. The Game soon went for a Pedigree, but Kurt Angle ran in and slammed both men in the head with a steel chair! Chyna ran out for the save, and Angle left the scene of the crime. Chyna checked on both men as Kurt watched on and smirked. Soon after, Angle left the Greensboro Coliseum.
In mixed tag team action, Al Snow and The Kat faced Perry Saturn and Terri. Suddenly, at one point in the match, a streaker ran through the ring - who turned out to be Mideon! Mideon ran away quickly though, and Saturn soon locked The Kat in the Rings of Saturn for the win!
Backstage, Kevin Kelly interviewed The Rock. The People's Champion said he was more than ready to face the Demon Wolf, and that he would emerge from the match still the World Wrestling Federation Champion.
Next up is the main event, The Bladewolf vs The Rock.
It was now time for the main event, in which The Rock will put his WWF Championship on the line against The Bladewolf, a man who did not lose the WWF Championship by pinfall or submission. in his mind, he never lost the title. It was taken away from him. And tonight, he gets a shot at reclaiming that which he never lost.
In the arena, the fans were eagerly awaiting the arrival of the superstars.
OOOOOOOOWWWWHHHHOOOOOOO!
Dead Silent plays to a mixed reaction as the lights go out, before a lone spotlight shines on a dark robe-clad Trish Stratus standing on the stage with her back to the camera. The Bladewolf then walks out and stands in front of her as Trish sheds the robe and walks in front, caressing his shoulder along the way as the song's lyrics begin.
"He is time. Famine. War. Pestilence you cannot endure."
In a seductive manner, Trish climbed onto the ring apron and began to mouth along with the next verse.
"The End is here. The End is here. Fall and pray." Here, Trish started to get more frantic as she entered the ring. "Fall and pray! Fall and pray!"
She dropped down as the Bladewolf came forward with a primal roar, the lights now flickering red frantically as the Demon Wolf stood in the middle of the ring while Trish danced around him to the repeating 'Fall and Pray!' parts of the song. Bladewolf then beat his chest to the drums in the song as Trish crawled between his legs and leaned against them, the song dying down after the drums and the lights slowly returning to normal.
The Bladewolf removes his coat and hands it to Trish, who leaves the ring to stand at ringside while the Bladewolf faces the stage and glares ahead, adjusting one of his singlet straps briefly.
The Rock's theme hits to a loud pop from the crowd before the WWF Champion walks out to a bigger reception from the Greensboro crowd. "And making his way to the ring, from Miami, Florida, weighing in at 275 lbs, the World Wrestling Federation Champion... THE ROCK!" Lillian Garcia announced before leaving the ring.
The Rock made his way to the ring while the Bladewolf watched him with unblinking eyes, barely even moving from his spot in the corner as the WWF Champion gets onto the apron, walks along and climbs up the turnbuckle to raise the WWF Championship to a pop from the crowd. The Rock soaks in the atmosphere, the roar of the crowd, then directs his gaze to his challenger, a man he knows well.
The Rock slowly gets into the ring and hands the referee the title without taking his eyes off the Bladewolf. The Rock's theme soon dies down and the referee raises the title, showing that it's on the line. He shows it to the Bladewolf who gives it a brief glance, then it's handed to someone at ringside before the referee calls for the bell.
'Ding! Ding! Ding!'
The Bladewolf walks out of his corner and meets the Rock halfway, both of them going eye to eye in an intense staredown with the crowd chanting 'Rocky!', showing their support and favour to the Rock, not that the Bladewolf cared. The tension between the two men could be felt by the fans, who were aware of the rivalry and history that the Rock and the Bladewolf shared, from their battles in 1998, the brewing rivalry last year when the WWF Championship was held by the Bladewolf before injury forced him to vacate it.
And now, here they were again, fighting for the same prize, only the Rock is the Champion this time around.
The Bladewolf took the first shot with a right, but the Rock was quick to block it and retaliate with his own offence, landing right hand after right hand to the Bladewolf and driving him back. Shrugging the punches off, the Bladewolf fights back with a right hand, followed by another, and then a few more before the Rock ducks underneath one and Bladewolf turns into a hard right shot by the People's Champion, followed by another, getting the Bladewolf onto the ropes. Grabbing him, the Rock Irish whips him off the ropes but Bladewolf reverses.
The Rock rebounds off the ropes and gets floored with a big boot to the face by the Bladewolf who runs, rebounds off the ropes and hits a running elbow drop to the Rock's chest.
Flipping his hair back, the Bladewolf pulls the Rock up, measures him and then lands a sharp right uppercut that knocks the WWF Champion back down, leaving an echo that made many wince from the impact. Grabbing the Rock, the Bladewolf brings him back up and rams his head off the top turnbuckle in a corner, then keeps the Rock there as he drives his elbow into the Rock's head, followed by a right punch to the midsection, then a left to the jaw. Grabbing the Rock's left arm, Bladewolf wraps it around the top rope and then pulls on it, causing the Rock to yell out in pain.
"One! Two! Tree!" the referee counted. "Four-!"
The Bladewolf released the Rock and scared the referee back with a cold glare. Turning back to the WWF Champion, Bladewolf sends him down with a clubbing forearm to the back of the head. Dropping down, the Bladewolf follows his attack up with a hard knee driven right into the Rock's ribcage, causing the Great One to cough while clutching his ribs.
Gripping the Rock by the hair, the Bladewolf pulls him up and goes for something else but the Rock reverses it, grabs the Bladewolf and takes him down with a Side Russian Leg Sweep before hooking the leg! ONE! TWO-! The Bladewolf easily kicks out at two.
The Bladewolf is quickly back up to his feet along with the Rock who goes for him but is stopped with a boot to the midsection, then a right hand, then another. The Bladewolf grabs the Rock by the back of the neck and throws him into the corner where he had been and unloads with a fury of lefts and rights, upstairs and downstairs, forcing the WWF Champion to cover up as best as he could in order to protect himself. Seeing this, the Bladewolf stops his assault and hits a big uppercut, breaking the Rock's defence.
Flipping his hair out of his face, the Bladewolf grabs the Rock and pulls him into a shoulder bash, sending the Rock to a knee before he is yanked back up into another shoulder bash, this one sending him down onto his back. The Bladewolf runs, rebounds off the ropes and goes for a running elbow drop but the Rock moved out of the way this time around. As the Bladewolf gets back to his feet, the Rock is quickly on the attack with a fury of right punches, then goes for a big one but the Bladewolf ducks it, grabs the back of the Rock's head and hits a neckbreaker!
It's not often that the Bladewolf hits such a move.
Getting to his feet, the Bladewolf pulls the Rock back up to his feet and then lands a big right uppercut, sending him onto the top rope. Walking up behind him, the Bladewolf presses the Rock down onto the rope, trying to choke him. The referee is quickly in there and counting, so the Bladewolf releases him, wraps his arms around his waist and sends him across the ring with a release German Suplex.
Jumping back to his feet, the Bladewolf shows a dark, sadistic smirk as he enjoys the pain he's causing the Rock, much to the crowd's ire as they boo him but the Bladewolf dismisses them easily as he walks towards the downed Brahma Bull, and delivers a hard stomp right to the chest, then another stomp to the back, followed by another.
'Rock! Rocky! Rocky!' The crowd chanted, trying to will the Rock back into this.
The Bladewolf pulls the Rock up and knocks him back down with a right hand. bringing the Rock back up, the Bladewolf sets him up and hits a snap suplex before covering him! ONE! TWO! THR-! The Rock kicks out at two!
The Bladewolf glares at the referee before he gets to his knees, pulls the Rock up against him and then starts driving his elbow repeatedly into the Rock's chest before stopping and shoving him off as the crowd boos. Getting to his feet, the Bladewolf flips his hair back and adjusts one of his elbow pads before pulling the Rock up. However, the Rock shoves his arm off and comes right back with some right hands before he runs, rebounds off the ropes but runs right into the Bladewolf's grip as he lifts him up and hits a sidewalk slam.
Getting up, the Bladewolf gets out onto the ring apron and climbs up to the top turnbuckle. The Rock, woozy and dazed, stumbles up to his feet and turns around as the Bladewolf leaps off... AND CONNECTS WITH THE FLYING CLOTHESLINE! The Bladewolf crawls over and hooks the leg! ONE! TWO! THRE-! The Rock kicks out!
Punching the mat in frustration, the Bladewolf gets to his feet, pulls the Rock up but the Rock starts fighting back with some right hands until the Bladewolf blocks one and uppercuts the Rock, knocking him back against the ropes. The Bladewolf goes for an Irish whip but the Rock reverses, pulls him in to lift him up onto his shoulders and... HITS THE SAMOAN DROP! BOTH MEN ARE DOWN!
The Bladewolf manages to sit up first, having taken less punishment in the match than the Rock has. The Bladewolf makes it to his feet first as the Rock makes it to a knee, and he goes for a right but the Rock blocks it and lands a right hand of his own. The Bladewolf shrugs it off and goes for another punch but the Rock blocks it again and lands a right hand, then another, then another. He gets the Bladewolf onto the ropes, and keeps up the onslaught of punches.
Trish Stratus then gets onto the ring apron and shouts at the Rock, causing him and the referee to turn, with the referee quickly going to tell her off. But this gives the Bladewolf the chance to... DRIVE HIS KNEE BETWEEN THE ROCK'S LEGS AS HE HITS THE LOW BLOW!
The crowd booed as the Rock goes down in pain while the Bladewolf recovers from the Rock's onslaught. The referee turns after Trish gets down from the apron, having not seen the low blow since nothing could be done about it.
Rolling his shoulders, the Bladewolf walks forward and picks up the Rock, driving his knee into his midsection. The Bladewolf sizes the Rock up and then... GRABS HIM BY THE THROAT! He lifts him up... BUT THE ROCK JUMPS OUT OF HIS GRIP! The Bladewolf turns only to be hooked up and... ROCK BOT-NO! BLADEWOLF ELBOWS THE ROCK'S HEAD! The Rock stumbles off and then turns around only to be scooped up into a fireman's carry! However, the Rock is quick to slide off and shove the Bladewolf into the corner, but he comes right back with a clothesline that the Rock ducks, and Bladewolf turns around into a kick to the stomach and... DDT! THE ROCK CONNECTS WITH THE DDT!
The Rock hooks the leg! ONE! TWO! THRE-! THE BLADEWOLF KICKS OUT!
The Bladewolf stumbles to his feet and leans on the ropes while the Rock catches his breath before he too gets to his feet and approaches the Bladewolf in the corner, landing a kick to the left leg then goes for an Irish whip but the Bladewolf attempts a reverse only for the Rock to counter it and try an Irish whip, but the Rock counters again however the Bladewolf holds on and Irish whips the Rock... RIGHT INTO THE REFEREE IN THE CORNER!
Uncaring of this, the Bladewolf raises the right hand to signal a Chokeslam as the Rock turns... INTO A GOOZLE! However, the Rock breaks the grip, shoves the Bladewolf into the ropes and he rebounds off... AND COMES STRAIGHT INTO A SPINEBUSTER BY THE ROCK!
The crowd are on their feet as the Rock stands at the Bladewolf's head, then he takes off the elbow pad and throws it into the crowd! He rebounds off the ropes, hops across the Bladewolf, hits the ropes again, comes back and... HITS THE PEOPLE'S ELBOW! HE HOOKS THE LEGS! BUT THE REFEREE IS STILL DOWN!
Seeing this, the Rock breaks the pin and gets to his feet, walking over to rouse the referee... WHEN THE BLADEWOLF SITS UP! With an angry expression on his face, the 3-time WWF Champion gets up and the Rock turns around... INTO A GOOZLE! This time, the Rock is unable to get out as the Bladewolf lifts him up high... AND PLANTS HIM WITH A CHOKESLAM! Dropping to his knees, the Bladewolf goes for the pin!
The referee slowly comes to and counts! ONE!...TWO!...THRE-! THE ROCK KICKS OUT!
The Bladewolf looks frustrated as he grips his hair before pushing it out of his face and glares down at the Rock, then at the referee. Getting to his feet, the Bladewolf grabs the Rock and pulls him up when the Rock shoves his arms off, hooks him, lifts him up and... NAILS THE ROCK BOTTOM! THE ROCK BOTTOM! THE ROCK HOOKS THE LEGS! ONE!...TWO!...THRE-! THE BLADEWOLF KICKS OUT!
The Rock rolls onto his back, hands going to his head as he stares at the ceiling with an almost 'what do I have to do?' expression on his face.
Slowly, the Bladewolf makes it back to his feet and the Rock surges at him, clotheslining him over the top rope and out of the ring but the Bladewolf lands on his feet, and pulls the Rock's legs out from under him, dragging him out the ring and unloads on him with lefts and rights before landing a big right hand that sends the WWF Champion stumbling to the barricade. Running, the Bladewolf clotheslines the Rock over the barricade and watches him for a moment before he climbs over after him.
The Bladewolf starts to pummel the Rock with repeated right shots to the forehead... WHEN THE UNDERTAKER'S THEME PLAYS!
The Bladewolf snaps his gaze to the stage as the Undertaker ride out on his motorcycle, Kane's ripped mask hanging from the handlebars. With one more punch to the Rock, the Bladewolf climbs back over the barricade as the Undertaker drives down the ramp, circles the ring then parks his motorcycle facing the stage. The Undertaker gets off and slides into the ring as the Bladewolf rolls in... AND THE BROTHERS GO AT IT!
The crowd are cheering this confrontation on as the Undertaker and the Bladewolf trade punches back and forth before the Undertaker starts to gain the upper hand, getting his brother on the ropes. Undertaker goes for an Irish whip but the Bladewolf reverses it, only for the Undertaker to come off the ropes, duck a right hand and the Bladewolf turns... INTO A GOOZLE! The Undertaker lifts his little brother up... AND PLANTS HIM WITH A CHOKESLAM!
Undertaker glares down at the Bladewolf before he leaves the ring and gets on his motorcycle as the Rock crawls into the ring with the referee. The Rock crawls over and hooks the leg! ONE! TWO! THRE-! THE BLADEWOLF KICKS OUT!
The crowd roared in shock as the Rock looked wide-eyed, almost unable to belief it. From ringside, the Undertaker watched with a raised eyebrow.
Getting to his feet, the Rock pulls the Bladewolf up, hooks him up for the Rock Bottom but the Bladewolf elbows the side of the Rock's head, breaking the hold. The Rock stumbles and turns... INTO A GOOZLE! The Bladewolf lifts him up... BUT THE ROCK GETS OUT OF HIS HOLD! The Bladewolf turns, only to be hooke dup, lifted... AND PLANTED WITH THE ROCK BOTTOM FOR A SECOND TIME! THE ROCK HOOKS THE LEGS! ONE! TWO! THREE! THE ROCK RETAINS THE WWF CHAMPIONSHIP!
'Ding! Ding! Ding!'
The Rock's theme plays as the crowd are roaring in joy and happiness that the Rock won, while the Champion rolled onto his back, exhausted, his body in pain. "Here is your winner and STILL World Wrestling Federation Champion... THE ROCK!" Lillian Garcia announced.
The Rock gets back to his feet and is handed the WWF Championship, which he raises to a pop from the crowd as the Bladewolf rolls out of the ring and lays on the floor, glaring at the Undertaker who shot him a smirk and then drives off to the back.
RAW is WAR goes off the air with the Rock celebration his successful title defence.
And that's it for this chapter, folks.
