zx20000006: Noted and will slow down accordingly

Here's Chapter 6 everyone!

The mood in the room was tense as Tsunade finished outlining the mission. The faces around her reflected a mix of determination and uncertainty. Naruto, Neji, Kiba, Shikamaru, and Choji had been assembled for a retrieval mission that would carry them deep into enemy territory. The goal: bring Sasuke back to Konoha before Orochimaru could gain complete control over him. But what weighed on each of them was Tsunade's grim preface: No jonin would be joining them on this mission.

"We're stretched too thin," Tsunade explained, her voice somber. "The invasion left its mark. Many of our jonin are dead or dealing with the aftermath across the village. You're on your own."

The words hung in the air, and Neji could feel them sink into her as she glanced at her teammates. Shikamaru, standing beside her, shifted uneasily but straightened when Tsunade's gaze landed on him.

"This mission requires a strategist who can make quick decisions under pressure," she said, locking eyes with him. "Shikamaru, you're in charge. You're the only recently promoted chunin, and we need your leadership."

A flicker of surprise crossed Shikamaru's face, but he gave a slow nod, clearly weighed down by the responsibility but unwilling to refuse it.

The team was dismissed, and as they moved out of the room, Neji felt the weight of the mission settle over her. Her thoughts drifted to Naruto, who had a mixture of anger and determination etched on his face. Neji found herself oddly unsettled whenever she looked at him, feeling a deep, insistent need to understand what drove him so intensely. It was something else, something more curious and intense that drew her to him, whether she wanted it or not.

Naruto's passion and dedication had always intrigued her. He had a way of influencing those around him, and that power had pulled her in, made her question her own limits. But what unsettled her most was the way Naruto seemed to affect her resolve. The Byakugan, the strict training, the caged destiny of the Hyuga, it all paled in the face of Naruto's fierce independence and open ambition. Even as she was grateful to be part of this mission, she felt a twinge of resentment at having to clean up the mess Sasuke had left behind.

'Sasuke'. The thought of him brought an ache of anger, confusion, and bitterness to the surface. Why would he betray the village, abandon his team? Neji's jaw clenched, fists curling at her sides. She had respected him once, admired his resolve. Yet now, that same resolve had turned to a twisted loyalty to Orochimaru, and she couldn't understand it.

As they prepared to leave the village, Shikamaru gathered them for a quick strategy discussion. Naruto was pacing, his face a storm cloud of frustration and determination. It was clear that his resolve to bring Sasuke back was personal, and Neji could see the tension gripping his shoulders.

Kiba's usual easy going demeanor was absent, replaced by an expression of focused anger. "So Sasuke just thinks he can walk away like that, huh?" Kiba muttered, glancing toward Akamaru, who barked in agreement. "He's got another thing coming if he thinks we're letting him turn his back on us."

Choji, standing next to Shikamaru, was quieter than usual. Though his face held its usual kindness, there was a gravity there that Neji hadn't often seen. "We've all lost too much already," Choji said. "And Sasuke's supposed to be one of us. We owe it to the village to bring him back."

Shikamaru seemed deep in thought, considering their words and letting the silence stretch between them. "Listen," he began slowly, scratching his head with an air of reluctant resignation. "This mission isn't going to be easy. If we run into something, we'll have to work as a team if we want to stand a chance."

"Then let's do it," Naruto said, his voice intense. He glanced over at Neji, his determination so unshakeable that she felt herself nod in agreement without a second thought.

The team moved swiftly through the forest, Shikamaru at the lead with Neji close behind, her Byakugan activated to keep an eye on their surroundings. The initial journey was straightforward, the familiar forests of Konoha surrounding them in shades of green, leaves crunching softly underfoot. But soon, things grew more challenging.

They encountered their first obstacle: a series of traps set to delay anyone who might pursue Sasuke. Kunai hurtled toward them from hidden triggers, and wire traps snagged at their ankles.

Neji's Byakugan allowed her to see the hidden mechanisms, calling out locations to Shikamaru, who coordinated their maneuvers. She pointed to a tripwire nearly invisible in the foliage. "Shikamaru, two meters to your left."

Kiba and Akamaru sprang forward, using their keen senses to detect hidden triggers. "Got it!" he barked back, dodging effortlessly as he pressed on. Choji, meanwhile, used his strength to clear heavier debris from their path, creating space for them to move more easily.

Naruto charged ahead with unrelenting energy, cutting through obstacles that appeared in their path, but it was Shikamaru's calculated commands that prevented their speed from working against them.

"We're getting closer," Neji said, focusing her Byakugan on the dense forest ahead, "but something's off."

"Everyone, stay alert," Shikamaru warned, his sharp eyes studying their surroundings.

As they moved deeper into the forest, a sudden silence fell around them, the only sound being the subtle rustle of leaves underfoot. Neji's eyes narrowed, her Byakugan detecting chakra signatures moving in the trees. She clenched her fist, her pulse quickening.

"Someone's here," she whispered, eyes flicking from one shadow to the next as she tracked the movements of the Sound Four.

Within moments, their enemies revealed themselves, stepping into the clearing one by one with sinister smiles and unwavering confidence. Tayuya, Kidomaru, Jirobo, and Sakon stood before them, their eyes cold and assessing.

"So, they sent children after us," Tayuya sneered, her mocking voice laced with malice. "This'll be over quickly."

Naruto gritted his teeth, fists tightening at his sides. "We're taking Sasuke back. We don't care what we have to go through to do it."

"Oh, you'll care," Kidomaru replied with a smirk, pulling threads of gold webbing between his fingers. "You'll care when you're wrapped up and helpless."

Shikamaru signaled them to prepare, giving each teammate a glance to confirm their readiness. Neji felt a surge of adrenaline; this was the moment she had anticipated. The familiar hum of chakra built up in her hands, her Byakugan flaring as she readied herself.

They all launched into action simultaneously.

Choji took on Jirobo, his body expanding as he rushed forward with his powerful meatball jutsu. Jirobo sneered, meeting Choji's attack with brute force as their fists clashed with earth-shattering power.

Kiba and Akamaru went straight for Sakon, the two of them moving as a synchronized unit, fangs bared and chakra swirling as they launched into their Fang Over Fang technique. Sakon moved fast, dodging the attacks and responding with precision strikes, his grin never fading.

Shikamaru paired off with Tayuya, his quick thinking pitted against her genjutsu abilities. He kept his distance, strategizing ways to use his shadow possession jutsu to trap her. But Tayuya, smirking, summoned her flute to unleash a wave of sound, forcing Shikamaru to block his ears.

And Neji… her gaze landed on Kidomaru, who smirked as he eyed her. She knew this fight would be unlike any other she had faced. Kidomaru's webbing was almost invisible to the untrained eye, but her Byakugan caught every glint, every movement. She could see each chakra thread he manipulated.

Kidomaru tested her defenses, shooting threads of golden webbing her way. Neji spun into her Gentle Fist stance, her movements fluid as she deflected each attack, striking at the points where his webbing touched her, snapping the threads with precision strikes.

She darted closer, closing the distance between them with practiced ease. Kidomaru's eyes widened slightly, but he quickly recovered, unleashing a rapid barrage of arrows, his webs forming a complex and shifting shield around him.

Neji's mind raced, calculating her next move as she dodged the onslaught. Now's the time. She thought back to the technique she had been working on, refining in secret until it was ready. She hoped it would be enough, and hoped it would work as she intended. Taking a deep breath, she allowed chakra to gather at her fingertips, and with a determined look in her eyes, she whispered, "I hope it's ready."
