Chapter 2: The Counterattack Save Shinjuku
Before we get started, one quick question: if Mutants from Marvel existed in Code Geass how do you think the world would react, would they be feared and hated like in Marvel or because of Britannia's own views on social Darwinism would they be worshipped like gods, an Idea for a Code Geass X-Men fic I was thinking of because the ones I saw just didn't interest me or are dead, I might do later.
Where were we? All that's right, Duke and a teenager named Lelouch end up in a truck stolen by Japanese freedom fighters, got attacked by the Britannian military, Duke had to fight off members of Clovis' royal guard and learn that Clovis has been experimenting on a woman who took a bullet for Lelouch, oh and when she grabbed Lelouch's arm and he then revealed to be a prince of Britannia and made multiple soldiers kill themselves.
"How did you do that?" asked Duke.
"When the girl touched me I heard her voice in my head offering a contract." Explained Lelouch.
"What kind of contract?"
"In exchange for this power I have to grant her one wish." Answered Lelouch. "I know it sounds crazy, hearing voices in your head and gaining superpowers."
"Trust me I'm no stranger to weird." Said Duke, although he is unsure how to feel about Lelouch while they are both looking at the girl's corpse, while he admits this power is useful he is concerned that the first thing Lelouch, a civilian and a teenager, used it for is murder and how he smiles when he kills them, true as a soldier Duke has taken lives before but he never smiled no matter how much they deserved it.
"So, who are you?" asked Lelouch. "I doubt you are a Britannian soldier or you wouldn't have saved me, and when you were upset about Suzaku in the military for his age rather than his race."
"My friends call me Duke."
"You're a noble man?" asked Lelouch although he doubts it since Duke is nothing like the nobles he has met in the past.
"No, its just a code name, my real name is Conrad." Said Duke when two Sutherland's barge in with their guns pointing at them.
"How could all these soldiers be dead?" said Villetta Nu, one of the pilots. "What happened here? A man and a boy, is the boy a student? ANSWER ME!"
Lelouch was about to use his new power when Duke puts his hand on his shoulder. "We don't know the full extent of your power and in my experience, you shouldn't piss off a woman with a gun pointed at you. Get her to come to you so you can get a clear shot of your power."
Hearing Duke's words and the fact that he would rather not get himself shot he thinks of a plan. "My name is Alan Spencer, my father is a duke, this man is my bodyguard. My I.D. card id in my pocket when the two of you identify who we are we will request your protection."
Lelouch guessed right that they would want to kiss up to nobles hoping it will help with their careers, now with both soildiers out of their Knightmares Lelouch activates his power. "Hand over your Knightamare's to us."
"Understood. The code is X-G-2-1-2-D-4."
"Yes sir, mine is H-B-R-0-1-9-8-3."
With the Kngithmare's in their possession Duke and Lelouch hide out to plan their next move.
Lloyd Asplud's portable lab…
Suzaku Kururugi wakes up to see Lloyd Asplud asking him: "Are we having a bad day? Suzaku is about to get up when he feels the bandages on him. "Well, it looks like you missed a chance to go to heaven, Private Kururugi."
"I did?" said Suzaku disappointed trying to get up.
"Careful, you shouldn't get up so quickly or you'll hurt yourself." Said Lloyd's assistant Cecile. "Although Prince Clovis is nearby so this is probably the safest place to be." She then pulls out an old pocket watch. "This is what saved your life, is it a keepsake?"
"Yes, very." Answered Suzaku.
"You elevens think gods exist in everything such as objects as small as a pocket watch." Said Lloyd.
"Is Lel…" Suzaku stops himself. What's the latest on the situation."
"It looks like the poison gas has been released." Said Lloyd. "Massive eleven casualties have been reported."
"They haven't caught the perpetrators yet." Added Cecile.
Suzaku knows the truth that there is no poison gas but still he is a soldier so he won't question his superiors they probably missed something.
"Private Kururugi, how much Knightmare piloting experience do you have?"
That caught Suzaku off guard. Sure, he is an honorary Britiannian but even then only genuine Britannian's can pilot Knightmares.
"But… there's no way an eleven would ever be made a knight." Is Suzaku's response.
Lloyd simply similes at Suzaku's response and holds up a golden key. "Well, suppose you could. Congratulations! The only Knightmare of its kind awaits you! Once you take control of this big beauty everything will change."
"Whether you want it to or not." Said Cecile.
Back with Lelouch and Duke…
Currently in stolen Knightmares the soldier from another world and the high schooler are currently planning what to do next.
'What do I do about Duke' thought Lelouch. 'He clearly knows who I am and yet he tried to save me from the royal guard, he might have an ulterior motive , but he knows about my power so he might prepare for it. I'll figure out once I get answers out of Clovis.'
Duke looks at the controls of the Sutherland in the cockpit. 'Huh, this isn't too different from a Skysriker, okay I should contact the others.'
Turning on his com Duke asks Mainframe: "Mainframe can you check the news to see anything about Shinjuku."
"Not much just that there are traffic restrictions but they aren't explaining why."
Since the coms were open Lelouch overheard and figured it out from there. "Sounds like when they are finished, they will release news to favour the military while keeping word of what their doing secret until we do."
"Your right but we need a plan." Said Duke.
Lelouch finds a chess board in the Sutherland he is in and remembers growing up with Clovis and playing chess together giving Lelouch a plan. "I might have a plan; how would you like to get back at Britannia?"
"No you're a civilian, you should go home and forget about this." Said Duke.
Lelouch tires his best not to show how annoyed he is even if Duke is just concerned for his safety. "I know that you know that I'm a prince of Britannia, that means that I'm Clovis' half-brother, we grew up together so I know his strategies, so I can help."
As much as Duke doesn't want to rely on a teenager he does remember that Lelouch says he hates Britannia, he also knows Clovis and they say the enemy of my enemy is my firend. "Okay, I don't like this but I'll work with you, but you will stay in this Knightmare and try to communicate with the resistance group to help us."
"I agree with your terms." Said Lelouch.
"Good I've got some of my men and I'll tell them to listen to you." Said Duke going off with his Knightmare. "Yo Joe!"
After getting out of Lelouch's hearing range he contacts Mainframe. "Mainframe, can you get me some research on the royal family, specifically a Lelouch Vi Britannia."
Duke waits a few minutes until he gets an answer. "Okay here is what I found: Lelouch Vi Britannia is the son of Charles Zi Britannia and the late consort Maranne Vi Britannia. From what I found he and his younger sister Nunnally were sent to Japan for some political meeting but died in the invasion."
"Well unless I am talking to a ghost or zombie, which considering our lives isn't too hard to believe, he is alive and is helping me."
"What you have a civilian helping you." Said Mainframe.
"I told him to stay safe and he knows Clovis so is helping the rebels to fight Clovis." Said Duke who just started shooting up Sutherland's, with using one of their Knightmare's they are unprepared and quick to be attacked.
"Okay just keep me posted Mainframe out."
Kallen the girl with now one-armed Glasgow Knightmare is trying her best to fight Jeremiah Gotwalt. That is when Lelouch contacts her: "The west entrance, use the tracks to move to the west entrance."
"Who is this?" asked Kallen.
"If you want to win, you'll just have to trust me."
Hearing the word win gives Kallen hope so she travels with her Glasgow until she is able to make it jump onto the train tracks. "Okay what am I supposed to do now?!"
Jeremiah ever persistent along with one other Knightmare but that Sutherland is Duke in disguise so he starts shooting at the pureblood leader.
"Who are you, I'll have you arrested for treason you…" before Jeremiah could continue the firing from Duke caused his Knightmare to forcefully eject him.
"Thanks, but who are you?" she asked and the Sutherland left to continue to herd out the soldiers.
After jumping over a train Kallen stops when other members of her resistance group lead by her old friend Oghi.
"Kallen what the hell was that radio message earlier?" asked Oghi.
"He contacted you guys as well?" asked Kallen.
"Sure did and Yoshida's group outta be here soon." Is Oghi's answer when his radio turns on.
"Are you in charge?"
"Uh yeah." Responded Oghi.
"I present to you the cargo in this train, it will be the keys to your victory." When Lelouch says this they see Sutherlands among the cargo and other weapons, while the resistance fighters are examining the gear Snake-Eyes, Tunnel Rat, Jinx and Quick Kick sneak into some of the Sutherlands.
"Finally, nice to get to pilot one of these ourselves." Said Quick Kick.
"Agreed it will be nice to show Britannia what it is like to fight someone who can fight back." Said Jinx putting her mask back on.
After finishing looking at their new equipment Kallen gets a call from Lelouch.
"Women in the Glasgow, stay where you are, your unit will run decoy and my ally you may call Duke, he is not a nobleman before you ask, will provide you cover." Said Lelouch. "Energy filler status?"
"About 15 minutes left." Said Kallen.
"Then recharge it, wait 10 minutes and I'll contact you with instructions."
G1 Base…
"The terrorist are mixed in with the eleven population and they're mounting a minor resistance against us. But they pose a little treat to our vastly superior army." Said General Bartley who is looking at a holographic table over Shinjuku.
"We know that. Moving on…" said Clovis sitting on his throne.
"Understood your highness, the gas capsules will be…"
"What the public thinks." Clovis interrupts.
"Yes, we'll keep searching for her."
"I want her captured dead or alive."
Back to the fighting…
"Hey are you certain about this thing, they've all had their IFF's removed, what if this is a trap?" asked Tamaki.
"The other side has total advantage in this war, they don't need to set any traps." Answers Oghi getting the Sutherland he is in ready. "All right people let's move, get to your assigned points."
"P-1 can you move?" asked Lelouch. "It operates basically the same as what you're used to. Q-1 is hopefully on schedule so enemy Sutherlands will reach you in 23 seconds. Shoot them through the wall."
"Aah! He's out of his mind." Said Tamaki.
"Everyone, double check your weapons." Ordered Oghi ignoring Tamaki.
"Are you serious?!"
G1 Base…
"Enenmy spotted at point F-31." Said a soldier.
"A feint, eh?" said a smug looking Clovis. "How pedestrian."
"Tell Lazlo Squad to go straight in! have Eugen and Valerie strike from the rear!" ordered Bartley.
Shinjuku Battle…
"3, 2, 1… Fire!" ordered Oghi as his resistance group used their stolen Knightmares to shoot down Britannian soldiers while on the rear the Joe's take care of the other Knightmare squad.
"Nice to give these bastards a taste of their own medicine." Said Tunnel Rat.
"Agreed." Said the other two Joe's capable of talking with him.
G1 Base…
"Sir Eugen and Sir Valerie both lost." Said a soldier which gets Clovis' attention."
"An ambush?"
Hidden destroyed building…
Lelouch is still hiding in a Sutherland holding up a knight chess piece while looking at the screen. "An ID signal can be a double edge sword. Besides if the terrorist can follow my orders, then my task at hand will surely be completed. P-1, P-4, P-7, move 100 meters to the right and fire your slash harkens towards three o'clock."
Back with the Kozuki Resistance…
"You heard the man." Said Oghi.
"Damn, what else does he want us to do?!" Tamaki exclaimed annoyed at taking orders from a stranger.
"P-5 ready?"
"Quite calling me that!" said Tamaki.
The resistance group used their Sutherlands on the enemy killing the pilots inside.
G1 Base…
"The enemy's moving towards G-28!"
"Send the Lazlo Squad… I mean whoever we have left." Said a nervous Bartley.
"We can't, these terrorists clearly have a master planner in their ranks as well as one of them has been killing our soldiers by themselves."
"That's impossible only the very best soldiers such as the Knights of the Round or Cornelia would be able to wipe out so many units at once." Said Bartley in disbelief.
"This failure is unacceptable." Said Clovis standing up from his throne.
"Good afternoon." Said Lloyd appearing on one of their screens.
"What is it?" asked Bartley. "We're in the middle of an operation."
"I'd say this is the right time to deploy the ASEEC's special weapon."
Hearing the news and the idea that their terrorist have some sort of secret weapon wiping out their forces, Clovis both hopeful that to keep his actions a secret and fearing that some kind of warrior better than Todoh might be out there he is now desperate with only one real option.
"Send in your toy if it can defeat them." Said Clovis.
Lloyd grins at the news. "My lord, please be so kind to call it the Lancelot."
Back with Duke…
Seeing how Lelouch has lead the resistance fighters makes Duke impressed by the man. 'He might only be a teenager but he still thought of a plan that is working while I'm in charge of thinning out any stragglers, I got to say if Lelouch was a soldier he would make a good general one day. Although if he really hates Britannia so much he might get himself in situations like this again and while he is a good strategist he doesn't seem to be much of a fighter, if teenagers in this world can join the military then perhaps he can join the Joe's to show we can help him.' Thought Duke who just fired his Slash Harken at an enemy Knightmare and sent it back to another so Duke could shoot them into pieces.
"Duke this guy you found is a genius." Said Quick Kick on the coms. "With this we're almost done and no way we can… I just jinxed it didn't I?"
"Funny that's my thing." joked Jinx.
Well he is right because at high speeds a new never before seen Knightmare appeared that has a white and gold colour scheme that looks like a knight, then it delivers a swift strike in a spinning kick taking out the Knightmare Tamaki is in ejecting it.
When Tunnel Rat sees the Lancelot in action he says what everyone is thinking: "We're all gonna die."
When Lelouch sees the Knightmare, he starts panicking seeing his plan fall apart. "What is that thing was there really something I couldn't foresee."
Understanding Lelouch is scared since from this Duke contacts him on a separate channel. "Lelouch are you scared, it is understandable if you are, everyone gets scared in dangerous situations, I'm no stranger to fear myself, I've faced death more times than I can count. But right now we need a plan to defeat this new Knightmare. Think of this like chess, you're the king and the rest of the resistance fighters are your pieces, now we just need a strategy to win." He says in a supportive tone.
Hearing these supportive words help Lelouch calm down and come up with a new plan so he contacts the rebels. "Okay, this Knightmare is too fast for Sutherlands I need the you terrorist to evacuate while Duke and his men will corner the Knightmare into a closed off space where its movement will be limited."
"You heard the man. Yo Joe!"
"Yo Joe!"
'Really Yo Joe that's their battle cry.' Thought Lelouch.
Snake-Eyes starts firing at the Lancelot to get Suzaku's attention but he speeds off into an alleyway once cornered Quick Kick fires from the Knightmare's RPG like weapon firing to cause Suzaku to lose focus.
"I'm starting to see why Bazooka likes weapons like these so much." Said Quick Kick.
"Dammit why won't these terrorists stop and realize what they're doing is wrong and that they need to stop." Said Suzaku hypocritically.
When he tries to give a kick in the small alley Duke uses his Sutherland to hold the Lancelot into position.
'Something about the way this Knightmare fights feels familiar.' Thought Duke.
With the Lancelot retrained Jinx and Snake-Eyes now out of they're Knightmare's use they're laser guns to aim for various weak points and strike them out causing the Lancelot to fall down with a broken leg. Tunnel Rat also fires at the left arm breaking it.
Lloyd's Lab…
Seeing his precious Lancelot get defeated so easily by terrorist causes Lloyd to pull at his hair. "Whoever those four are I won't stop until I have my revenge."
"And harming Suzaku." Said Cecile. Although she knows better to think Lloyd cares about the life of someone that isn't a machine, just wishful thinking.
"Right Private Kururugi him to."
Back to the fight…
The Joe's leave the alley but Suzaku desperate to prove himself grabs his Knightmare's gun with the arm that can still fire but it misses hitting a nearby building causing a mother and her child to fall.
"Damm you terrorist, this is all your fault for fighting, can't you see that because of you innocent civilians are going to die." Said Suzaku, just a reminder he was the one who was firing
"Not on my watch." Said Duke, who couldn't hear what Suzaku said but knows what will happen if they fall so, he ejects from the stolen Sutherland and activates his jetpack and flies off catching the woman and child and files them off to safety.
Needless to say, everyone not from the Joe's universe who saw this was impressed.
"A jetpack, how?" asked Lelouch. "Not even Britannia has this kind of technology."
"Why is a terrorist saving civilians? If he really valued the lives of others he should have joined the military." Said Suzaku.
While the rest of the Joe's at Shinjuku aren't surprised by Duke's actions. Tunnel Rat even remarks: "Yeah that's Duke, always the hero."
Duke flies down to a safe place as far away in Shinjuku as he could.
The woman asks Duke: "Why did you save us, we're Japanese, elevens, you had no reason to help us."
"Your wrong, your not numbers but people, Britannia may not value your lives but I do, it is the strong's duty to protect the weak." Duke responds as he leaves.
After seeing everything Duke did he is even more of a mystery to Lelouch but he does now realize something important. "In the midst of battle he rescues someone rather than destroy an enemy, I must remember that in the midst of battle the most vital part is the human element."
Lelouch realizes that thanks to Duke he now has an opening so he gets out of the Knightmare and leaves to confront Clovis.
Duke sneaks back down and notices Lelouch trying to sneak in so he orders the Joe's to protect the Japanese who have evacuated to a warehouse.
He finds Lelouch in stolen military gear probably to sneak past and get to Clovis. Duke while not as skilled in stealth as Snake-Eyes or Lady Jaye is still able to sneak in seeing Lelouch use his power on some of Clovis guards to sneak in.
Duke taps on Lelouch's shoulder getting his attention. "You shouldn't have done that I could have killed you."
"Now's not the time for jokes we have to stop Clovis so we can end this, or in chess terms checkmate." Said Duke.
Lelouch smirks at that and they head into the G1 base with guns pointed at Clovis while their faces are obscured from the shadows. The next thing everyone in the ghetto hears is Clovis' very surprising announcement.
"Attention all forces! Seize fire at once, I, Clovis, the third prince and Viceroy of area 11 hereby command you that all forces are to seize fire at once. You will also seize destruction of any buildings or property, all casualties whether Britannian or eleven will be treated without prejudice. In the name of Clovis La Britannia I shall allow no further fighting."
Back to the inside of the G1 Base Clovis looks at the two terrorist who snuck in and ask: "Are you satisfied?"
"Very, well done." Responded Lelouch.
"I bet your soldiers are surprised by your change of heart." Said Duke.
"What shall we do now? Sing some ballads, perhaps a nice game of chess?" asked Clovis.
"Now that has a familiar ring to it." Said Lelouch taking off his helmet and gives Clovis a good look of Lelouch's face. "Don't you recall we used to play chess as boys, I always won."
Surprised to see his dead brother apparently alive the entire time. "Lelouch your alive, I thought you were dead."
"I guess his death was greatly exaggerated." Joked Duke who has his gun pointed at Clovis head.
"Yes, I am the 11th prince Lelouch Vi Britannia, son of the late consort Marianne Vi Britannia and I have returned your highness and I've come back to change everything."
I'm leaving it here think I did a good job still trying to work out writing actual fighting, think I'm getting better. Also, what do you think Lelouch would be like if he was as physically capable as he is smart? Next chapter the Joe's will learn from Lelouch about his exile and being sent to die, and they so far just see Charles Zi Britannia as another dictator but they will absolutely despise they man when they learn when they learn how he treated Lelouch and Nunnally and want to help Lelouch get revenge on the man.
